This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of July, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading Set bet. 3:30 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here: [4061]; this we have had before.

3. As we find, there are real improvements, but as has been indicated this will require patience and persistence. For the conditions have been and are hindrances of those natures which require time, patience, prayer and meditation and doing all those things which have been indicated.

4. To be sure, these may appear hopeless. They might be considered so without there being the prayer, the meditation, the desire, the hope.

5. When there is the application of the low vibrations which carry those properties to the body-forces, don’t neglect this period, for then there is the opportunity for making those contributions or those suggestions to the very soul-body and this is where the healing or the help begins. To be sure, it is necessary that the mechanical and the other treatments be carried forward but don’t neglect the prayer and the suggestions, and these have been partially. Be sincere and it will take time, but we will get results.

6. Ready for questions.

7. (Q) Are the treatments being correctly given? Attaching the plates in the right position? (A) Read just what has been indicated, that these must be followed through with very closely and there hasn’t been as much care in the suggestions as there should be. But these can be corrected.

8. (Q) Are the massages being done correctly? (A) Do just what has been given. If they hadn’t, these would have been referred to.

9. (Q) May anything be done to overcome difficulty in massaging around his eyes and head? (A) These will just take time and patience, but follow through just as much as practical.

10. (Q) Will the bunches or growths on his eyes eventually disappear? (A) This depends upon the responses. It depends upon the response to the inner consciousness as much as to physical consciousness. It depends, then, as to whether it will be - it is like asking if tomorrow will come. For about three million it will not come, it will be eternal. For this entity it may, it may not, dependent upon just how sincerely, how thoroughly the suggestions are adhered to. Don’t grow impatient. Suppose God did with thee, what opportunity would there be.

11. (Q) Were the operations that caused them necessary and if not have they done any harm or disfigured them permanently? (A) Why worry self with this? These have been done. Why berate or belittle those who attempted to do the best? Would you berate the one who first used that which was not well in the cleansing of the eyes, with boric acid mixed with others which caused physically disturbances? But don’t be like Lot’s wife, who may be scorned also.

12. (Q) How much does he see at this time and which eye is more useful to him at present? (A) The right eye is the one needing the most. The light in the left causes the entity to shield same. There is about ten percent in the one and about fifteen to twenty in the other.

13. (Q) Why does he rock back and forth continually? (A) If you had this trouble you’d do more than rock back and forth!

14. (Q) Does it relieve the tension for him to stand on his head? (A) Read the first information as to where the sources of the disturbance are, between sympathetic and cerebrospinal, and the sensory system and the activities which may be determined. Anyone having such a disorder needs the closer cooperative activity, and the body unconsciously gains or goes to that position.

15. (Q) Is there any trouble in his ears or why does he put his fingers in them? (A) There is trouble, but as has been indicated, the trouble is in the lower portion of that space in the palate and above where eyes, ears, nasal passages, all of the organs of the sensory system coordinate. Read what has been given and analyze it. To gain the help do as has been given, consistently, persistently. Be patient, be prayerful.

R1. 7/31/44 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to EC:

“As yet I have not received [4061]‘s reading of July 22nd and am wondering if it has gone astray. I asked that it be sent to … where he was at that time, but now we are back in … and if it has not been sent out yet would you please send it to this address?

“I am delighted with [4061]‘s progress and a Dr. Eagleton who saw the baby last summer was amazed at the change in him and seemed greatly interested in your work. I was so pleased and asked him to read the book on your life.

“I am looking forward to his new reading and know it will be most satisfactory.”

R2. 8/9/44 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to EC:

“I received the reading yesterday and was so pleased to get it. I am so glad to know that [4061]‘s condition is improved and realize now that I did neglect the suggestions. I usually feed him at the time the appliance is on because it keeps his mind occupied. Otherwise he is continually pulling at the wires and breaking them. Therefore I’m afraid my thoughts have been more on his eating than on what the appliance was doing. I am so grateful for the reading and will do better from now on.

“The baby is greatly improved and it seems that he is seeing more each day. As yet he is not walking unsupported but I am hoping that will come before very long.

“As I am to continue the same treatments, perhaps you could suggest when I should have another reading. I want to be sure I am doing everything correctly…”

R3. 9/26/44 [4061]‘s mother’s letter: ”…[4061] is getting along fine and I am so pleased to tell you that last Friday he took his first steps alone…”

R4. 10/19/44 GD’s letter to [4061]‘s mother:

“Due to Mr. Cayce’s continued illness we will not be able to offer you another check reading for your son [4061]. It may be several months before he will return to the office, and any further appointments will not be scheduled until that time.

“In view of the above, we are returning your membership fee in the amount of ten dollars. When again applying for a reading, do not send the membership fee (or check reading fee) before three weeks prior to the date set for the reading… P.S. Mrs. […], I just visited Mr. and Mrs.

Cayce last weekend. He is steadily improving but the doctor says it will take several months to rebuild the nerve supply. We are hoping that he will be able to return home by Christmas, for a while at least. Please drop him a card, but don’t expect an answer - it takes all of Mrs. Cayce’s time and one other to nurse him, besides part time of the doctor and his wife with whom the they are staying. Write care of Meadow View Inn, Cloverdale, Va. Mr. Cayce is able to sit up a little while each day now. We haven’t told the general membership just how ill he has been.

“I do hope little [4061] is continuing to improve. Please remember me to Dr. Dick when you see her, and tell her I’m still trying to find time to write her a letter… P.S. #2. Just two of us are left in the office now, so that is why we are late in answering your letter.”

R5. 11/15/44 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to GD:

“It was so nice to receive your letter. I was sorry to hear that Mr. Cayce was so ill and hope that he will soon be strong again. I sent him a card and thank you for his address.

“I took [4061] to the Naval Hospital today and Dr. Beam is amazed at the way he is steadily improving. He has a copy of both readings and I felt today that he really was beginning to realize that the treatments are responsible. He has cooperated and I am thankful that under his care there has been no more surgery.

“I was having a great deal of trouble with the stone crock in the wet cell appliance. The chemicals seeped through and it was eating everything. Finally a neighbor who is an electrician asked if there was any particular reason why a stone crock should be used. He said that glass and rubber were the only two things that sulphuric acid, etc. would not eat through. We read the reading thoroughly and could find no reason for not using a glass jar. I have purchased one and my troubles seem to be ended.

“I was going to write Mr. Godfrey and ask him if it was alright to use but thought perhaps you would have more information. I am using it now and will continue unless I hear from you otherwise.”

R6. 4/11/45 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to GD:

“I can’t tell you how shocked I was to hear of Mrs. Cayce’s death. Dr. Dick told me Saturday when we were there for [4061]‘s treatment. I realize how hard this has all been for you and I can’t tell you how many times you have been in my thoughts.

“It doesn’t seem possible that just a year ago we were planning our trip to Virginia Beach. I am so grateful for that trip and the great pleasure of meeting you all.

“I had a little baby girl on Sunday, April 8th, and she is a darling. She weighed six pounds, fourteen ounces, and I have named her […]. I think it will be nice for [4061] to have a sister. He is improving steadily and I know Mr. Cayce would be pleased. I am still continuing the treatments and intend to do so. I know eventually everything will come out alright.

“I am glad to hear that the Association is going to continue and I most certainly want to be a part of it. I can never repay you all for what you have done for us…”

R7. 6/1/45 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to GD:

”…[4061] is still improving and you would be amazed to see just how much he really can see. He loves his little sister and she resembles him greatly.”

R8. 9/9/46 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to GD:

”…[4061] is still improving steadily and I give him his treatment in the morning before I go to work. I could never forget it because he asks for it and at the end of thirty minutes he takes it off himself. He has light, object and some color perception now which is a great improvement over what he had before Mr. Cayce gave us the first reading. He has never been operated on since the first reading. Before that, before he was ten months old, he had had ten operations. The doctor wants to etherize him to get a correct examination of the eyes but I don’t even like to do that. It took such a long time to gain his confidence after so many operations.

“Dr. Dick was in Boston in June and I had dinner with her. She did so much for [4061] too, and is so pleased with the results. I just wish Mr. Cayce could see but I know wherever he is he is helping us now…”

R9. 3/3/47 HLC’s letter to [4061]‘s mother:

“Enclosed is an announcement of an open meeting which we are planning for Boston on Monday evening, March 10th. I certainly hope you can arrange to be present.

“I expect to be in Boston through March 12th. We are planning to follow the open meeting with smaller group discussions and I am looking forward to the opportunity of meeting and talking with you personally…”

R10. 3/11/47 GD’s note: She gave a testimonial talk at a public meeting in Boston re [4061]‘s case; brought down the house, etc.

R11. 5/3/47 HLC’s letter to [4061]‘s mother:

“I understand that you took [4061] to see Dr. Wakeling. I hope you like him and it is going to be possible for Dr. Wakeling to follow through on the treatments which Dr. Dick had begun. We are interested and hopeful regarding [4061]‘s progress. Please keep us advised from time to time of the changes…”

R12. 11/24/47 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to GD:

”…[4061] is getting along slowly but surely. He is now in Perkins Institute for the Blind and is getting along beautifully. I bring him home on Friday night and take him back on Monday mornings so I have three mornings to use the appliance Mr. Cayce recommended. He has light, color, and object perception and it is getting stronger all the time…”

R13. 6/23/48 [4061]‘s mother’s letter to HLC:

“I thought you would be interested in hearing about the work the Boston group has done. I was sorry to miss your visit here in March but Mrs. Wakeling told me how beautifully everything went.

“You will probably remember that I have a little boy, [4061], that is being helped greatly by your father’s readings.

“I also have a little girl who is just three. On May 29th she was run over by an automobile in our driveway and seriously injured. I got her to the hospital as soon as I could and when I was told that she might not live the night I called Dr. and Mrs. Wakeling and asked them if they could get in touch with our group and work for […].

“Later I found out that within one half hour they had gathered together and held a meeting for her. She has came along beautifully and her cast was taken off yesterday. She is going to be alright and I know the help we got that night was through our very own group. Even the doctors admit it was a miracle and just don’t understand how she came out of it.

“I know you would be interested in hearing about all the good things that have come through your father’s work.”

R14. 11/17/48 [4061]‘s mother’s letter:

”…I am delighted to report that [4061] is getting along fine. This is his second year at Perkins Institute and he really loves it. He is home every weekend and holidays, so we aren’t separated as much as we could be. I still give him his treatments whenever I can and he is improving slowly but surely…”

R15. 11/3/49 [4061]‘s mother’s letter:

”…I did not work all summer as I had to take care of my son who was home on vacation from Perkins Institute for the Blind… I am still continuing my treatments on [4061] and I know he is improving. We are very grateful to Mr. Cayce.”

R16. 8/15/50 [4061]‘s mother’s letter:

”…As you probably know I am divorced and things have not been going too smoothly. I will, however, send it for this past year [membership dues] but don’t dare undertake another year at this time.

“My real problem is [4061]. He has not been doing well at school and frankly I am not sure they are going to take him back next year. His blindness is really secondary. It is his mannerisms and nervousness that just make it impossible for him to learn. I feel if they will only give him time he will overcome it, but it is a school and they do not have individual attention and that is really what he needs. I took three months last summer and again this summer to take care of him myself while he is home and I can see improvement. That is really why it has been hard for me financially.

“I tried to interest Perkins about Mr. Cayce and his wonderful work. I believe I even wrote and asked if you could send them some literature and apparently it was the wrong thing to do. They conceived the idea that I was not accepting [4061]‘s blindness and really put me through a great deal. Finally they had me see Dr. Herbert Barry, their psychiatrist, and it all boiled down to the fact that I had shown them [4061]‘s reading. He told me Mr. Cayce was a ‘quack’ and that when they realized I had been ‘taken in’ by something like that, that they were alarmed. I can’t tell you how surprised I was and as you and I know if they had really investigated as I tried to have them do, they would realize how wrong they are. However, [4061] must have an education and that is the only school here in this state and I have to do all I can to keep him there because if they don’t keep him, there is no other place for him.

”…I haven’t been giving [4061] his treatments now since the first of the year. I know they objected and I thought I would try it for awhile and see what happens. I didn’t want them to think I would just go against their wishes. I know somehow they will find out exactly how wrong they are about such a wonderful person as Mr. Cayce. I am always grateful that I had the pleasure of meeting him.”

R17. 9/20/50 HLC’s letter to [4061]‘s mother:

”…I want to thank you for your report on your son’s case and assure you that we understand and sympathize with the trials you have been through in discussing it with medical authorities. I think you will find it unwise to push an explanation of this matter forward with any physician who does not show some personal interest and seek it for himself.

“We will keep you in mind and I hope that you will keep in touch with us. Some situation may arise where we can be of more direct help.”
