This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of March, 1940, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [410], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 3:50 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ala.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures: answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, there are quite a few changes in the physical forces of the body since last we had same here.
-
There has been the inclination for too great an acidity through the system. This, combined with some glandular disturbance, causes a great deal of irritation, and a rash which affects areas about the body in a manner as to become very aggravating to the body. [Menopause beginning?]
-
We would find better conditions for the body, as we find, with rather a close adherence to a strict diet, with some applications that may be of the more beneficial nature - using a Glyco-THYMOLINE solution for the douches.
-
In the diet, do not take any quantity of meat, of any nature, if any at all is taken. Occasionally, however, a little very crisp bacon may be taken, if it is very crisp and all the grease is taken out.
-
No white of the egg to amount to anything, at all. The yolk, though, may be taken.
-
Have a great deal of citrus fruits as a part of the diet, as well as vegetable juices - both raw and cooked; especially raw vegetables such as lettuce, celery, carrots, tomatoes and the like; and all of the well-cooked vegetables that the body may eat, but no dried - as dried beans or the like; use rather the fresh vegetables, especially of the tuberous nature, but well cooked in their own juices - as in Patapar Paper.
-
On those areas where there is the rash, apply D.D.D., - the ointment rather than the liquid.
-
The douche solution would be in the proportions of a tablespoonful of Glyco-Thymoline to a quart and a half of water, body-temperature; using the Fountain douche.
-
Also we would have the thorough relaxations osteopathically made. These treatments should be made more in the nature of a massage than an adjustment. Hence we find that the neuropathic treatment would be more preferable than the chiropractic, in this particular instance. These should be given especially for relaxing those areas that set up drainages; from the 9th dorsal upward, COORDINATING the lumbar axis with same about every second or third treatment.
-
Do these, and we will find better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would a change and rest be advisable? If so, would Miami, Fla., or the Rosicrucian Sanitarium in San Jose, Calif., be preferable, where they give the various nature treatments? (A) If a change is made, we find that the Clearwater, Florida district would be preferable to the Miami or the California district. For the character of baths that may be had near Clearwater would be more preferable for the body, with those other applications as we have indicated. [Dr. Cecil V. Duffie, D.C., N.D., Duffie’s Health Clinic, Lakeland, Fla.? [GD’s note: We did not consciously know of the Duffie’s Health Clinic at the time. We only heard of him four yrs. later when [Dr. Duffie] read THERE IS A RIVER and wrote EC. Of course the rdg. could have been referring to some other drugless set-up right in Clearwater, the name of which we do not have.]
-
(Q) Would I improve just as much by staying at home and continuing with the chiropractic treatments I am now taking, according to the first Reading given several years ago? (A) The natural change, of course, would be beneficial, and the ability to have the greater quantity of the FRESH citrus fruit would be helpful, as well as the character of baths.
Do that.
- We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/4/40 “I am following the suggestions given which I am sure will benefit me, in fact I already feel very much better since following the diet and using the ointment prescribed for the rash, but as yet haven’t taken any neuropathic treatments as we don’t have but one person here who gives them [Dr. Elise L. Stone, N.D.], and I wouldn’t take from her. Will probably go down to Fla. next month - Clearwater as you suggest.”
R2. 4/27/40 Sister [319]‘s ltr. to EC: “My sister, Mrs. [410], wrote you a short while ago for a rdg., which you sent her and which contained some good advice. I don’t know what she told you or what questions she asked, but I am afraid you did not get to the real trouble with her. Her condition is more emotional than physical. She is highly nervous and easily upset. She feels that all of the family have turned against her, which is, of course, just an idea but very real to her. We all love her devotedly, though, being human we make our mistakes. Please go into this very deeply and try to find out what is back of it and what we can do about it. I am planning to try to get off my work and go to Fla. with her just as soon as the weather gets a little warmer. We will probably go to Miami because she likes it there and because we have a very good understanding friend there. I am dreadfully worried about her and want to do something now. In replying send your letter to me at the [office]. Send in a plain envelope and also let me know what your charge is…”
“P.S. In case we do go to Fla., would it be wise to go on the train, or should I urge her to go in her car and make stops on the way - Clearwater and other places. Is there a physical cause back of her condition?”
R3. 4/29/40 EC’s reply: “Yours of the 27th received. In looking over the information given on the 22nd of March I think you will see the suggestion is - the source of the trouble now is of a glandular nature and of such a nature from the advice given that would tend to make her very nervous and even appear flightly at times. But believe that [if] were the suggestions [were] followed you would soon see a big change. I would by all means take her by Clearwater. If you don’t stay there - see Mr. [550] and Mrs. [639] at Ft. Myers, Fla., and have them have their Dr. [Dr. Edwin Ludwig Rasmussen, N.D.] see her and give her some treatments. In fact they are among the oldest users of same - that continue to use same - they had their first reading in 1903.
“Of course if you feel that it is necessary, I will make an appointment and ask some specific questions, but believe as stated above this is the trouble and the suggestions for treatment have been taken into consideration. …Do have her stay (if possible) a while in Clearwater or Ft. Myers…”
R4. 5/2/40 Sister [319] ltr. to EC: ”…I shall try to follow instructions contained in your ltr. of 4/29th. If my sister does not improve soon I shall write you again for another reading. I am hoping, however, that this will not be necessary… P.S. My sister does not know that I have written you and I do not wish her to know. It might not have a good reaction on her.”
R5. 9/3/40 See her ltr. under 410-2 Life Rdg. report requesting data on Egypt.
R6. 9/8/40 “For quite some time the monthly Bulletin has been coming to my sister, Miss [319], but I seem to be cut off the list entirely. Of course it is not necessary to send one to each of us but since I am the one who is really interested, I would like to be included. I always read all of the literature sent and naturally can’t help but notice being slighted.”
R7. 10/1/40 Sister’s [319] ltr. to EC: “I am dreadfully worried about my sister, Mrs. [410]. I wrote you about her sometime ago, but you seemed to think she would be better and for a time she did seem better.
“I can’t go into symptoms and details and I don’t suppose it is necessary. After going the rounds of the family she is now concentrating on me and it is just about to get me down, as well as herself. She wouldn’t be that way if she were normal.
“Please give me a reading on her at your earliest opportunity
- tell me what to do about the situation, how I should act when she is in one of her tantrums, and if you think she would be better if I moved out of her home. I want to do absolutely what is right for her. She seems to think I don’t love her, but that’s absurd.
“I may not be able to get her to carry out your instructions, but I’ll try. Do you think her condition is serious? And if you see where I am in any way to blame, please tell me about it.
“I would appreciate it if you would go very carefully into this case and advise me promptly, because I am most unhappy and worried…
“P.S. By all means don’t let your reply go to the house. I intended to write and tell you after your stop in … that I appreciated your calling her and asking her to come by and see you. I have been upset and worried so much these recent months that I hardly know what I do. She enjoyed seeing you and talking to you and I think it gave her a real boost.”
R8. 10/3/40 EC’s wire: “Advise her address, appointment Sat. A.M. 10:30 11:30, EST.”
R9. 10/3/40 Sister’s ltr. to EC: ”…My sister will either be at her home, …, or downtown somewhere. She usually goes to town on Sat. A.M. around ten or eleven and rests at home in the early afternoon. She may not go to town this Sat. morning but I can’t tell.
“I may be unduly alarmed about her condition, but it has been going on for sometime and does not seem to get much, if any better. This particular phase may have passed by the time you make the reading, but another one will come sooner or later and I want to know how to handle it if possible. When she first had these attacks she would be hysterical and has asked me to help her and said she couldn’t get along without me, but now she “blesses me out”. Do you think she really wants me out of her home? From what I know of her disposition I don’t think she does. And she has not asked me to leave, but I wondered if she would be happier with me away. Her main grievance against me seems to be that she thinks I am not sympathetic enough with her in the mistreatment (?) she receives from the rest of the family. Well, they are sometimes thoughtless, not always tactful and appreciative and sometimes say hateful things to each other and I include myself in this. In other words, like most families we have our squabbles. But unlike a great many families, there is a very deep love and interest in each other and in case of trouble she would be right there doing what she could to help. I can’t see where I can change or help anything by having words or hurting the feelings of any of them and in trying to smooth things over I seem only to irritate her more. I really don’t see where she has had such bad treatment. It is just her condition that makes her that way, I believe, but it is mighty hard on those of us around her.”
R10. 10/5/40 See sister’s rdg. 319-4 giving advice as to relationships with Mrs. [410], indicating that [410] needs the advice and counsel and companionship of Miss [319], that she should not move out unless conditions become mentally unbearable. The problems are to be met, but the mental and physical disturbance will be overcome with following the advice which has been given. Miss [319] should act toward Mrs. [410] as she, Miss [319], would desire if conditions were reversed; not finding fault, not condemning, and not feeling sorry for herself.
R11. 10/8/40 EC’s ltr. to sister [319]: “Guess you will feel a bit put out, having asked for one thing and gotten another, but all of us here felt that you should have the suggestions from your stand-point or view-point. Hope it will help.
“Now if possible get your sister to ask for help from her point of view. This way we will possibly have the best the information has to offer.
“Do hope the suggestions are not far-fetched and that they will help.”
R12. 9/11/41 Miss [410]‘s wire: “Fell Monday. Please give reading to determine if hip dislocated. Wire me my expense by Western Union.”
R13. 5/17/42 Miss [410] wrote about a nephew who was living with her and her sister, Miss [319], so apparently they did not break up their home together. [10/56 They were still living together.]
R14. See subsequent notations under her Life Rdg. 410-2 Reports.

B1. See 410-1 on 9/21/33 for hay fever, etc.
B2. Please give ck. rdg. on the Physical Rdg. given me several yrs. ago. I would like the following questions ans’d: “I need a change and rest and am thinking of going to Miami, Fla., or to the Rosicrucian sanitarium in San Jose, Calif., where they give the various nature treatments. Or do you think I will improve just as much by staying at home and continuing with the chiropractic treatments I am now taking according to the 1st rdg.? Also what is causing the irritation and itching in the pelvic region and bladder, and what will give me relief?”
