This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 6th* day of September, 1928, in accordance with request made by her husband via David E. Kahn.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

2. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with the physical forces of this body. These are of a specific nature. The condition has been of some years’ standing. Gradually has the condition become accentuated and, with the changes natural with the age, surroundings, and the general pathological forces of body, such as it becomes necessary that something be done; else the result will soon be such as to be very detrimental and hard to cope with. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, Mrs. [4122] we are speaking of. First:

3. IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this very good in many respects, yet the constant strain as has been and as is produced on the nervous system from existent conditions, and the gradual accumulation of more and more to be accomplished in keeping nominal eliminations, has brought about strained conditions - as might be termed - in the blood supply, or the necessity of the system’s adding to that of plasm cell forces through the accumulations of the balance created in the system, as to produce an overbalance. Hence the condition as exists at times with the heart’s action, when these depressions or pains occur and there is given properties to allay same. The effect as produced then at the time not wholly of heart’s trouble, or reactions. Rather the suppression of that as has been necessary for the system to build up to attempt to meet the needs of the localized disturbances in the system.

4. IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this we find distraught in many respects. More and more does the body suffer from headaches, depressions, and acute pains. This is naturally wearing on the sympathetic system, as well as producing conditions that cause disturbance in the cerebrospinal system.

5. IN THE FUNCTIONING OF ORGANS THEMSELVES, brain forces very good.

6. Organs of the sensory system show strain under which the sympathetic system has and does labor.

7. Throat, bronchials, lungs, larynx - the tissue of the upper portion of the body very good, or near normal, for the strains as have existed in the system.

8. Digestive system nominally very good.

9. Heart’s action disturbed in the manner as has been given.

10. Liver and the functioning of the digestive system shows stresses at times.

11. In the pelvis and in the organs of same do we find that distress which produces the dis-ease and distress under which the body has and does labor. Through the many changes as have come to the body, this condition has at times been relieved; yet the cause has not been changed nor relieved. Rather the distresses as produced in and to other portions of the system relieved. We find there is a specific condition, or a mis-placement, or curvature of the womb proper. This has gradually caused the pulling to the side and back, and has for a great period caused distress at the periods of the elimination, or menstruation in the system. This has reached now such conditions as to cause disturbance through the lesion (first), then adhesion, that has brought about inflammation to the tubes and to the false pelvis tissue. This, UNLESS changed or corrected, may necessitate operation - or operation might be necessary, unless there would be found response to those of appliances that would bring about changes, which of necessity will take longer, but under the condition as exists would be much more satisfactory and much less dangerous to the welfare of the physical body to correct the condition by other means than by operation. It will necessitate local treatments, the usage of packs, and a great deal of manipulation osteopathically - and adjustments for the system; rest and care; to bring about bettered or more normal conditions for the body. Antiseptics, naturally, are to be used. Meet the conditions as they arise by these corrections, as may be made by properly adjusting the condition, by relieving the pressure in the left side (particularly, as seen, for it has pulled toward that side), and by using local packs and changing same - but would be LOCAL treatment for the correction. Do that. We are through for the present.

My dear Mr. […],

You no doubt already have the information given in the reading for your wife. I certainly hope you found this interesting and worth while considering. I wish our institution was ready, for I’m sure Mrs. [4122] would be able through its channels to bring about the correction of her troubles. This we hope to have in readiness by the first of the year, or before. I’m sorry we couldn’t get to this sooner for you, but our time is pretty well taken up and we are only able to take care of just so many, which necessitates our taking them in the order in which we receive the request. I’m very much in hopes I may have the privilege of knowing both of you in person, from what I’ve heard Mr. Kahn say of you. We certainly trust we may be of service, and if there are any questions or any further information we may be able to give you, to enlighten you on the subject, we shall only be too glad to do so.

R2. 2/24/30 GD’s letter to [4122]‘s husband:

Dear Mr. […]:

According to our records, your membership in the Association expired on Sept. 6, 1929. Since you became a member, the Cayce Hospital at Virginia Beach has been completed and is in operation, the results obtained by the patients treated having been most satisfactory.

“The New Tomorrow”, the quarterly publication of the Association, was inaugurated in December, 1929, and will be published regularly for the benefit of our members, a copy of which is mailed to each one.

We are just at the beginning of an intensive educational program, interesting announcements of which will be made within a short time. Plans are under way for the erection of a club house at which it will be your privilege to remain, if at any time you come to Virginia Beach, which we hope all of our members will do. The past year, though it has not exceeded our expectations in the progress of the work, has exceeded them in the rapidity with which it has been accomplished thus far. The Board has a great many things which they are working on for the benefit of all the members and they will be advised of them from time to time.

We are in hopes that your membership has been of great benefit to you and that you will continue with us in our work “That We May Make Manifest Our Love For God And Man.”

Members already on our roll are, of course, given preference when readings are desired; in other words, if you should allow your membership to lapse and then later decide that you wanted to get a reading, by merely paying the membership dues would not insure you that the reading would be obtained as promptly as if you were already listed among our members, for you would have to take your turn as any other new member.

The amount necessary to cover the renewal of your membership is 15.00, which constitutes the dues of a Class "A" member, the class to which you are entitled to belong, having originally belonged as a Class "B" member. No readings are included with the payment of this amount, but may be obtained for the usual fee of 10.00 each.

Because of the great number of appointments ahead for several months, the membership list has been temporarily closed. As a result, there are a great many people waiting to become members, realizing at this time the advantages which they had not recognized heretofore. We would, therefore, thank you to send us your check to cover renewal of membership, or advise us immediately whether or not it is your desire to continue as a member so that, if not, the opportunity might be given to someone else. A self-addressed envelope is enclosed for your use.

R3. 2/27/30 [4122]‘s letter to GD:

Association of National Investigators Virginia Beach, Virginia

Attention: Miss Gladys Davis

Gentlemen:

According to your records my membership may have expired on September 6, 1929. February 25 of the following year is a poor time in which to remind me of when my membership expired almost six months previous.

In the meantime, I asked for a reading and sent you a check for it, which you returned with a perfunctory reply that because of pressure of business no readings could be made for several months to come.

This does not make me feel like sending you any more money for the privilege of being a member of your Association if I cannot get out of the Association the only thing that it has to offer me.

Please look up your record and if you find that Mr. Casey is able to give me the life reading that I asked for within the next three weeks, I will continue to be a member of the Association so that I may have the benefit of future readings if I want them. Otherwise, I see no reason for continuing to help support your Association.

R4. 3/6/30 EC’s letter to [4122]‘s husband:

Dear Mr. […]

Replying to yours of the 27th, I am sure we owe you an apology for not notifying you that your membership had expired when it did. However, this has been due only to the rush of what SEEMED to be more important matters, on my part; for I have had to attend to practically all of the business and other details of the Association work.

Yes, it is true that we were unable to make the appointment for a life reading at the time you requested it, and it is still true that we are not able to make any appointments for life readings. IF, however, the work of the Association is of no greater interest to you than from an individual personal interest, it certainly IS NOT worth your while to remain a member; neither do I think that the rest of the members would DESIRE one as a member who has only personal interests in mind. It is NOT that the membership fee can POSSIBLY, Mr. […], EVER be a MONEY proposition for any of us. When you recognize the fact (which I am sure you CANNOT unless you were to be in personal contact with the work) that it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get more than two readings each day, and when you consider that there is required a staff of at least three in order to obtain the readings - to say nothing of the keeping of the records and the running of the hospital, and the various other undertakings of the Association - you can readily see that the small membership fee would not pay anyone even a living wage; not as much as you would pay the servant in your home. We are TRYING, Mr. […], to render a service to humanity. Those that are banded together for such, are contributing of THEMSELVES much more than they are able to contribute in worldly means.

If you desire to assist in this work, that’s what we are offering you the opportunity to do. If it is just for the personal good that you get out of it, DON’T join!
