Time of Reading 3:00 to 3:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Tenn. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [421]; this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find, conditions are somewhat better than we have had at some of the periods; and somewhat below what we have had at others.
-
There are still those weaknesses in the inability of the system to keep the resistance sufficiently as to not cause detrimental conditions to find lodgement occasionally. These, as we find, come mostly from the thinness (ordinarily speaking) of the blood supply, or the inability of the system - under the strains - to create sufficient of the red blood for the meeting of these resistances, or to produce resistance sufficient to meet the needs. The general tendency from these reactions is for cold and congestion to arise, which makes for the quick pulsation and the inclination towards temperature in the central circulation, by the quick activity of the blood’s action.
-
In considering the causes and where these arise, as we find, they come mostly - or the more often - from the feet; the tendency for cold feet, when there is dampness or the tendency for the tiredness by the activity, the slow circulation produces irritations in such a manner that THROUGH these there comes the greater disturbance. While, in the other portions of the body, there is the tendency for the loss of weight, the irritation through the digestive organisms of the system, the fullness in the throat and head, the conditions in the general system that are the effects of this character of disturbance.
-
Then, we would give these in the present, which should be followed very consistently and persistently:
-
First we would prepare the inhalant, that there may be the antiseptic reaction from the gases for the throat, bronchials, lungs, that not only heal but that prevent accumulations from poor circulation through the muco-membranes of throat, nasal, bronchi, and the forces in the soft tissue of face, from becoming infected from these drosses. But it will aid also in keeping down the tendencies for the circulation to be so active through these portions.
-
We would also apply MOST consistently these conditions for the feet and lower limbs, that will aid the most in the circulation to the feet, to the lower extremities, preventing tired feet, preventing taking cold, preventing the decrease in weight:
-
At least once each week do ALL of this:
-
First, before retiring in the evening, bathe the feet in a warm salt solution. To a gallon and a half of water put a level teaspoonful of table salt, see? Keep the feet in this and rub them during the time, for at least twenty minutes.
-
Wipe the feet dry and then use a solution of tanic acid, which - as we find - may be best made from coffee grounds that are ready to be thrown away. To a gallon and a half of water put two cups full of coffee grounds that are refuse. Let this come to a stiff boil, boiling for two to two and a half minutes. Set aside, and have this WARM when the feet are put in this, for five to ten minutes. Be sure the feet are rubbed with this; not hot, not just tepid but WARM.
-
While, the salt water ought to be as hot as the feet can stand, see?
-
Bathe from the knees to the bottoms of the feet, especially massaging thoroughly the heels, the toes, and the arches of the feet.
-
EACH day (including the day on which the above would be used) bathe the feet and massage thoroughly into them and the lower limbs, including the knees, a preparation made in this manner:
-
To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil, add:
Witchhazel…4 ounces, Oil of Sassafras…10 minims, Rub Alcohol…2 ounces, Spirits of Camphor…1/2 ounce.
Massage this into the feet and limbs, only what the body absorbs.
-
And then the diet: Don’t eat so picayunishly! Yes, it’s a very good word for the body’s eating; scimping over! We would give an outline as this, though it may be altered - see?
-
Mornings - a cooked cereal; oatmeal or whole wheat, Wheatena or Cream of Wheat.
-
The next morning citrus fruit juices. (These would be the basis of the breakfast, of course.)
-
Eat slowly, but eat sufficient to FEED the body, see?
-
The cereal should be with cream or dried milk, or canned milk (Eagle Brand, preferably) with half of the regular milk - not skimmed.
-
Stewed fruits may also be taken at times with the milk.
-
Coddled egg, without the white - two yolks, with a cereal drink, as Ovaltine or the like.
-
Occasionally a little coffee may be taken.
-
And bacon; not too crisp, just so there is a LITTLE grease left in same.
-
Noons - before beginning to eat, take a malted milk with egg and a little spirits frumenti; or better with yeast in same, see?
-
Then the meals should consist of as much meats as the body will assimilate, with whole wheat bread toasted (not just dry, but toasted) AND buttered, see? and a glass of milk with same. The meats should include beef, mutton, veal, ham (not pork ham but well cured).
-
Evenings - a well balanced vegetable diet.
-
Before retiring drink another glass of malted or dried milk.
-
And don’t forget the feet! Don’t forget the inhalant!
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why do I have choking sensation in throat more often when lying down? (A) The circulation attempting to balance itself through the activities of the extremities. As it rises toward the head through the central circulation, through those congested areas, it produces the choking sensation. An overflow of the lymph to the head.
Follow the suggestions we have outlined, these conditions will be overcome; both as to the general health and as to those conditions from tendencies for cold and congestion.
-
(Q) Why do I tire so easily? (A) Lack of resistance. Follow up the treatments as we have given, through the diet and through the changing of the circulation, that will build so much for the body.
-
(Q) Why do my eyes burn and sometimes feel like a skin over them? (A) Need glasses! unless there is a whole lot of change in the whole condition!
Be very good once or twice a week, for the eyes and for the general condition, that the electrically driven vibrator be given especially from waist to base of brain; this upon retiring, three to five minutes.
-
(Q) Are my teeth throwing off poisons? (A) These are in very bad condition. Use Ipsab! and with the eliminating of the condition through the changes in the diet, the teeth will be much better! For, most of the meats that are eaten would make you chew sufficiently to strengthen the gums!
-
(Q) Do they need any local attention? (A) They have for a long time! But principally, we will find, if these things are used as outlined, we will overcome the conditions.
Follow these suggestions, which will make corrections in the body of the various minor conditions which are effects rather than causes of the disturbances.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/22/33 Aunt [243]‘s letter: “[421] was almost afraid to read her rdg. - and when we read it to her she just sat and cried and then we laughed together. She is very nervous but I think now she will get hold of herself. Since her rdg. didn’t say her lungs were complicated. If you could ever have heard her talking about you and what you had meant to her! I told her she should write you just a few of the things she thinks and feels, and I think she will now. She was so afraid her rdg. would stop her from working.”
R2. 10/24/33 Aunt [340]‘s letter: “[421]‘s rdg. came and is wonderful - she has started in on the suggestions already - except the inhalant, on account of not being able to get the alcohol…
“The rdg. is excellent, and she needed it very badly. Her mother rubbed her feet and legs as you suggested, last night, and sister [243] said that [421] slept more peacefully than any night for the last 3 wks. that [243] has been sleeping in the room with her. Isn’t that coffee grounds suggestion a new one? I’m sure I never heard it before, but it does the work.”
R3. 10/26/33 Miss [421]‘s letter: “My rdg. came Mon. and it is useless to try to thank you enough for it. It is a wonderful rdg. The first treatment helped me so much and I have been feeling better ever since.
“An inhalant for me hasn’t ever come through in any of my rdgs., but you said I should have one and sent the one I had before. Do you remember it? If so, I am enclosing a dollar for another if you don’t mind getting it for me. The one I had before was clear in color. [538-18, in 421-2?] It is so hard to get one filled here because of the alcohol. Dr. Peery is not our druggist any more and the ones we have now don’t understand. I don’t have any Ipsab and if Hugh Lynn will send me some with the inhalant I will send the money for the Ipsab later. Goodness, I don’t know what I would do without you.”
R4. 11/14/33 Aunt [340]‘s letter: “[421] is wondering whether you rec’d her letter and whether it was possible for you to get her inhalant prescription filled. She is carrying out everything except that and really needs that, too, as you know.”
R5. 12/6/33 EC’s letter: “I should be able to send it to her sometime this week.”
R6. 12/11/33 “I am sending it in this mail, and hope you will find it satisfactory.”
R7. 7/12/34 See her next Ck. Physical, 421-9.

B2. 10/12/33 “Whenever I want a rdg. you get a letter. I have started to work again and I would like to have a ck. rdg. I have just gotten over a little sick spell. So dizzy I could hardly stand, but I am alright of that now. Made me lose a few pounds and you know they are real hard for me to get. Here are my questions.”
