This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Tutwiler Hotel, Birmingham, Alabama, this 8th day of December, 1922.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here. Now, we find the abnormal conditions that need to be corrected in this body have to do with those conditions as are produced within the system by an imperfect co-ordination between the nerve forces as applied to certain functioning organs. There are some organic conditions that are abnormal, that to this body have become a normal condition, and have nothing to do with the corrections that are to be made within this body.

2. Now these are conditions as we find them in this body. The blood-supplying forces in the system are very good in its circulation, yet the elements as go to make up the forces that give the incentive rather than the building force become, to the action of the mental forces, a thing, a part, when they should vibrate in unison so as to give the correct incentives to the action of the nerve ganglia in the whole portion of the body, especially, those that need be removed, as it were, through the trunk portions of the body, those that had to do with the functioning of the organs about the hypogastric center or plexus, whose, that is this plexus, action or vibration over the system in this portion of the body affects the plasmatic condition through the intestinal forces of the lower portion of the body, hence the troubles at times the body experiences through this portion of the system. This factor in the blood we find is the subdivision of the two component parts of the hemoglobin in the blood, which carries the impressions to the action of the circulation in the body.

3. In the nervous system, we find this body is very good, above the normal development, especially, towards those that had to do with the spiritual and soul forces and their relation to the physical body, for with the perfect unison of other forces with this individuality, those forces may be developed in this body that would care for the whole physical body as well as being able to give the vibrations necessary to assist other individuals of developing their own individuality and find an expression of their personality through the ganglion along the solar plexus and sacral plexus in the physical. We find the reflexion of the overtaxed nerve condition as produced by the crossing of fixed centers in and about the sacral plexus, so that in the place of being perfect absorption of forces thrown off by the lymphatic system to ward off the conditions, they, the condition produced has remained and produces irritation to the action of the nerve centers when the body through physical forces overtaxes itself.

4. The functioning of organs as organs, we find they are very, very good with the action of the spiritual or soul force. To give the correct balance then to this body in the way or manner as best suited for the body, would be to surround itself, not with all elements necessary for harmony as [so] much as for vibrations necessary to produce harmony in the system. These we see would be found through the study of those and with those, at specific hours in their concentration of thought or prayer as made by Unity and surround the body with the odors, especially, of the vibration that produces the correct incentives to all the nerve forces, violet of all shades or tone or vibrations should be kept about the individual for it is of the higher raise [rays] that this body is capable of shedding or giving to others. Do that.

5. (Q) Mr. Cayce, this body complains of a weak liver? (A) Then through her own self and through collaborated and concentrated thought and with others remove the cause as we have outlined for the body to do, using the gentle manipulation and exercises and diet as necessary to create the correct incentives, for the study of the thoughts as given by these as we have outlined all of this is covered in this study. Do that. It covers all. We are through.

Dear Mr. Cayce-

I scarcely know how to express what I want to say as I am wholly at fault in not asking you what your readings meant. The paper had spoken of you only as a healer and not a diagnostician. I went to you to heal me but I was so disappointed when you told me what I already knew, that my trouble was mental and it was up to me to do what I had been years trying to do. I think your readings are WONDERFUL but I don’t feel repaid in going and I wanted to ask you if you don’t think $25 too much and if I could pay less. I have spent a fortune - till now we just haven’t it. I would not say a word if I had the money for I do think your’s is a wonderful work. I wanted to talk to you yesterday but hated to talk before the other people. My friends do not sympathize with me in my suffering and think it so silly of me to be always asking help - I do not want to appear ungrateful but should have understood the treatment more thoroughly but was grasping at any one who could cure me. I thought you did the curing. Please let me hear from you as to price. Thanking you, for your kindness. The paper speaks of violet rays, do you suppose the electrical treatment would do good?

Dear Mrs. [4286]

Yours of December 9th received, and I scarcely know whether I know how to answer your letter or not. Of course, I understand now that I perhaps should have gone more into detail regarding the work than I did at the time. I thought from the way that you spoke that you had read enough of the papers to know enough of the work for you to have known that I only, in that condition, gave the suggestion as to what the individual should do to be relieved of their troubles, whether wholly mental or physical.

Now as to the price, as you know and as was told you, I do not make a specific charge. People have contributed, who have been in for these readings, and the amount they usually contribute, is Twenty Five ($25.00) Dollars and up, but of course, it is going to be left with you to pay what you like. The expense is such that it is unreasonable for us to get along on a less amount than that, being limited as we are to the number we are able to give.

I would have been very glad to have talked to you regarding the work. I believe I understand your position and condition. I, also, believe that if you will take up the work whole heartedly, that is, Unity, and follow out every bit of it, you are going to get results and no matter what you think of it, I am going to ask you for your sake to do this.

Trusting that you will let me hear from you and leaving it with you as to how much you will send me for the work given you the other day, as it is not a fee, simply assistance that may be able to carry on the work or trying to help those who have bodily ills.

R3. 5/17/26 [4286]‘s letter:

Dear Mr. Cayce-

Your booklet came to me this morning and no doubt you will remember me. You gave me a reading at the Tutwiler Hotel four years ago and I did not pay for I did not have the money for I have had to spend ALL I could get on doctors. I know more now about what the mind can do - subconscious, ETC., than I did then but I am worse. I tried Silent Unity for months as you prescribed all to no avail so now I am almost on the eve of insanity and suicide. The most miserable woman on earth and almost a dope fiend. All my life my mother, who had suffered deaths with birth of 6 six children, talked so much to me about pregnancy that when I married 18 yrs. ago I was so scared of pregnancy that now I am living away from a dear sweet husband because I cannot bear to have him in my sight or near me. I have prayed and tried Psychology, Christian [Science] and Unity all to no avail. Do you think there is any hope for me. I wanted children and LOVED my husband but was so scared of sexual intercourse and now am worse than ever and as I say ready for suicide which I had planned this week when your booklet came and I am now begging in a hopeless, pitiful way for help - I am so melancholy all the time that suicide will have to come unless a ray of hope appears soon. If in any way you can help me PLEASE, PLEASE ANSWER IMMEDIATELY for I am suffering tortures. I assure you won’t lose any more money on me for I am poor but am willing to do without food for your help -

Yours of the 17th just received, and I hasten to answer same, for I am very sure there is help, satisfaction and comfort for you. I want to make the appointment for the reading just as soon as it is possible for me to get it. I am quite busy

• have many appointments ahead, but I will arrange to take this for you just as soon as I can hear from you again.

As you will see from the little booklet, I can only get two of these in one day. One is made of a morning, the other in the afternoon. We can make it for Sunday, the 30th, if that will suit you the better, but I want you to write me and tell me where you will be on the morning of the 30th, from nine until twelve o’clock, and at that time I want you to be alone and try your very best to LET me be of help to you, and I am hoping and trusting and BELIEVING that God will give me the strength and guide me in giving to you that which, if you will but apply it to your own self, you will find the strength, the help, the peace, the joy, the satisfaction, that you haven’t felt possible for you to have.

Now, Mrs. [4286] I am sure you realize that I am making an exception of this case, for I do not make appointments for Sunday, for that is a day of rest, but I want to do this in your case, for I want to be of help.
