This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of May, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Mrs. [4286].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time. You will diagnose the case thoroughly, giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before, you see.

3. Now, we find there are many changes in the body since we had this here before. Many of the conditions have become exaggerated to that extent wherein the body distrusts its own self, for the resistance, and the conditions as are brought on through the mental conditions as are produced in the body, in the mind, through the use of the morphia, produces that inability of the body to reason with its own self.

4. To overcome this condition, the body must place itself in that position wherein the body may respond to that as is innate, through the subjugation of the mental stability of the entity, that the physical may respond to that which may be applied in the body to overcome these conditions. Then there must be, at this same time, EITHER that built in the mind of the that that is known by the entity is due to those dependent in many ways upon the entity, or the self must be subjugated in such a manner as this may be awakened through the efforts of another mind controlling this innate desire within the physical forces of this entity, see?

5. Now, these are the physical conditions to be met. Now, how may the body go about to meet those conditions then faces this body, under its present circumstances, present conditions. This can only be done by the body giving self in that way and manner as to where there are not OBTAINABLE for the body, and where these suggestions may be so given to the body as to overcome these conditions. Such a place will be found at Crab Orchard Springs, Ky., Atlanta, Ga., or Nashville, Tenn., Memphis, Tenn., or at Hot Springs, Ark., or at Mobile, Ala. All of these institutions are of that nature that such conditions may be treated, and the entity of necessity, for the sustenances of the physical and mental body, must subjugate itself and become amenable to those treatments, those suggestions, as will be found in such institutions, see? Through this way, through this manner, will this entity be able to overcome. In the present conditions there is none other, for the subjugation of the mental forces, as has been and as is created within the mind of the entity at the present, through the usage of such conditions, has brought that condition wherein the entity feels an abhorrence to all conditions in the physical world; yet the entity must awaken to that there is a place that the entity must ITSELF fill, for this cannot be filled by any other, for that we sow we must reap, and we must meet our own conditions as are created in our own minds, for the MIND IS the BUILDER, and when we build a barrier between ourselves, our associates, our friends, our FAMILIES, this we must, OF OUR OWN VOLITION, tear down, would we fill that place that is NECESSARY for each and every individual to fill that has its existence in the physical plane. That of the spirit forces as are innate may become so subjugated by the desires of the flesh that they become as nil, yet these are ever ready to be awakened and to exercise their prerogative in the life of each and every individual, will same be allowed to manifest itself, but SELF must be subjugated that such may come about. In the MIND then, in the inner self then, must the entity, the body, build, and coming to the realization that the body PHYSICAL has become so amenable, so low, as NOT to be able to control the appetite of a physical body, must submit itself to the will of another, that through same there may be created within the will, and there may be aroused within the spiritual forces, that element that may give life, light, health, strength, happiness to this body. Then do that.

I enclose you, herewith, the copy of the reading as was gotten, and I sincerely believe that you will find in this the solution to your problem, if you will just make up your mind to that effect. I am sure that you realize, without my telling you, that you have a duty to perform, and that you owe a great deal to the world, that there are many people that may be benefited by your life and by your example, but you have got to rise to the occasion and determine in your heart and mind that you are going to fill that place.

R2. 6/5/26 [4286]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Mr. Cayce -

Your reading came several days ago and am sorry to say I was disappointed for Sanitariums have been my ruin with all the ideas of sex life ETC. Freud has been the cause of more suicide than any one thing in the world. I have my first person to see who was benefited by Psycho-analysis & all Sanitariums for nervous disorders use that as the main thing. I spent $3600 in 6 months at one place in Ashville I am told all of these places are alike. I feel all the time as if there was something pressing on my brain but no one doctor has ever paid any attention to me. I feel as if my brain was on fire & all kinds of head symptoms which of course has given me these constant thoughts of suicide. I am afraid I am doomed for Jesus & all kinds of New Thought have failed me. I am indeed the worst sufferer imaginable. Will let you hear from me soon. I feel that of course you are deeply interested in my case. I am also worried about my husband. He is in Fla & I cant go to him.

My dear Mrs. [4286]

I am just in receipt of yours of the 5th. I just wish that it was possible for me to have a heart to heart talk with you. I am afraid, from your letter, you have gotten the wrong conception of the information that was given you in your reading. I realize that your experience with the sanitarium tends to make one cynical in that respect. I know nothing about psycho-analysis or of Freud, or his theory, but as I understand from this reading, this purely a physical condition with yourself that is to be met, and all the theories in the world would be of very little use in your particular case. I would like to ask you to please study this just a little bit more, and see if you cannot get a response from your inner self as to the great privilege you enjoy in the living world, with same the duty you owe to yourself and to others, for eternity is a long, long, time, and you are in the midst of it! What you are, and what you do, you must meet! All the problems that arise of every nature must be met one my one. Jesus has not failed you! You have failed Him! There are too many thousands, Mrs. [4286] that have gained access to peace and happiness in His promises for you to say that He has failed you! You are able, you are STRONG enough, to make your will One with His. Now, the physical conditions as were suggested in the reading are mere physical things to assist you in doing that one thing - making your mind One with His! I’m sure I understand what you mean by those pains in your head - my, how they have troubled me! Just read, please, my experience in the little pamphlet I sent you, when I was first accused, or it was first said that I gave information beneficial to someone else, and you will see just what I mean. Now, I recognize that our positions are possibly not in the same position. You are lacking in your attempt as I was doubtful as to what I should do.

Now, I am truly and deeply interested in your gaining some help and assistance, and I believe you can do it, if you will just let us get at the base of this thing and study this together. Won’t you do this? Let me hear from you again.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Your kind letter came to me yesterday & I was so thankful to get it. I CANNOT ever go to another Sanatarium for they do not talk ANYTHING but SEX life & my mother had such a horrible time with birth of six children. She scared me before I was married that analysts say my suppressions have caused my nerves & heard children & after they told me the trouble it stuck in my mind til I cannot have my husband near me. I am AFRAID ALL the time & fear is horrible. I cannot FULLY interpret your reading. Please write me in plain English what you mean. I took radium last summer because I could not stand treatments for inflammation of the uterus & it does look like I would not be afraid of pregnancy now but it has gotten such a hold on me I can’t get my grip. I do not mind writing you ANYTHING for I feel you are interested. I have taken medicine to make me normal after an operation twelve years ago for removal of ovary but FEAR kept it from doing me any good. Radium brought on change of life til the blood surges to my head & the warm weather combined. I feel I am going mad. I have and do pray but no relief til I seem to have lost all hope. Hoping to hear soon.

R5. 6/17/26 EC’s letter:

My dear Mrs. [4286]:-

I have yours of the 13th. I just wish that I could sit down and talk to you for a while. I could tell you so much better than I can write it, for then you could ask questions and state your experiences, and I believe we could arrive at some point where it would be quite beneficial to you. I know such has been the case for others, so I think I have every reason to believe it would be in your case. It is just such as this that makes me so anxious to have a place where people can come, where we can consult together, arrive at that point where we would know that we were having the very best thing for each individual case. The great trouble in so many institutions - people are treated as herds, when its their INDIVIDUAL selves that need attention, and not humanity as a whole! Yes, I am sure, from what you say, that it would be an impossibility for you to go to another institution, such as you have been, and that is not the thing, nor is it the kind that is necessary for your well-being, for you want no more of the sex problems. What you really should have, Mrs. [4286] is that great love feeling, knowing no sex, which casteth out fear, and you need the treatments of adjustments with the subjugation of the mental by a very strong powerful mind, but one that absolutely is above any little or lowly condition. In other words, one that will only give your mind the highest, the best, the purest, thoughts possible. One that will be able to take away all that thought of fear, only seeing the beautiful side of life.

There comes to my mind with this, just at this time, just an experience we had a few months ago - in fact, there are two of them. I’ve never met either of these ladies, yet their conditions at the time we were asked to help were certainly very sad. It was like two broken sticks trying to comfort each other - one [3934] had spent many years trying to get along with a husband who mistreated her in many ways, yet for the children’s sake she had held on. Finally it came to the point where it was unbearable, so the break had come, several years ago, but it had just left her such a nervous wreck that it was pitiful. The other [[4329]?] a very close friend of hers had a loving husband, and everything most that would go to make up a beautiful life, as she thought, then one night, just how, why or what - anyhow, her husband was with another woman - there was a wreck, the car was burned, both bodies with it. These two good women are trying to console each other. They had tried Christian Science, Unity, Psychology, and the faith healers. Through some manner or means they heard of this work. They had the physical and the Life Readings. Through the combination of information as was gotten in these two, each began in her own individual way to work out, as they have since termed it, their own salvation. To be sure, it was not the same for each one, yet both were suffering from nerves, from fear, from a dread, very much as you have been. One of them had undergone many shocks through operations, just as you have, but little by little, and with the continual checking up once in a while, they have been able in the last nine months to get themselves well set, and as one of them said in her letter just a day or two ago, “I have much now to be thankful for, and I owe it all to you.” Or as the other said, “Life was as a blank - I had ceased to want to go on - now I can see my error and my desire is to help others, and I owe it to your efforts.”

Now, I’m not a physician, I’m not a hypnotist, nor a faith healer, for as you know, through the readings there are many, many, various conditions and appliances offered as ways and means to awaken the consciousness of the individual to that that is necessary for the individual awakening. As you very well know, no healing of ANY character, to ANY individual, is accomplished except through the individual application to self! Others may assist, others may direct, so that certain conditions arise in the individuals minds, but beyond that anyone and everyone is at a loss, and the individuals themselves must awake to the possibilities within their own selves to apply that same power that gives us breath from moment to moment to individual action in their own lives. Prayer is merely a state of being in which one’s mind becomes attuned through such communion with an unseen force. If your inner self does not believe in that higher power’s ability of transmitting that force to yourself, your prayer doesn’t rise above your head. Anyone’s belief in any condition is a matter of putting that belief in action, and its impossible to see results or obtain results unless that element of faith and belief is first awakened. Now, the way and means of accomplishing this with you will never be through the drugs, through the knife, or through confinement in any way, manner or form, but through Love, and that same love that induced your mother to pass through the valley of the shadow of death, that you might have being. Now, this isn’t a sex problem, but merely an illustration of a condition. Or, as this: The thing that will make YOU well and strong is being able to suffer for the moment that you may be better tomorrow, by making life more pleasant for someone at the present moment. Now, don’t you think I’m right about it?

Now, I believe we can work out some way, manner or means, whereby that you can get all of this. I don’t mean to infer by this that you are dense, but, my dear lady, you have been so SCARED of life that you are almost afraid to live! You must realize - WHY are you living? What is it all about? What’s it for?

Let me hear from you again, and maybe if we take the Life Reading, and we study that end of it, combined with the physical, we can arrive at what is the right thing. You see in the little book the information that is given in one of these. Also the information necessary for us to have to get one, and let me know if you don’t want this gotten also, for I assure you I want to be of help if possible. You are worth all the time and effort that I can possibly give, to get you set aright about this. Let me hear form you again real soon.

R6. 7/6/26 [4286]‘s letter:

My Dear Mr. Cayce -

I know you think me stranger & peculiar & I am for I suffer so all the time but two weeks ago I had a letter from my husband (as you know is in Fla & has been a year) in which he has lost (apparently) all he had made which was a great deal by re-investing, so in my condition I GAVE UP COMPLETELY. I had intended asking for my Life reading but I cannot pay you now, so hesitate to ask since I cannot pay NOW. Tho if you are willing to trust me I will send my name ETC - [4286], born Aug 15th 8 P.M., 1879. Sat in Talladaga. I am not any better, taking bromide all the time & that has lost affect on me. Oh, God have mercy on me is all I can say. I don’t know when I will get to my husband as money is so scarce.

Your life must be a happy one doing so much good. I want to do good & has been the desire of my life to help others but in my condition I am not able to walk but I do the best I can.

Dear Mrs. [4286]:-

Replying to yours of the 6th, I am sorry indeed to know of the misfortune. I am sure that this trouble at this time is a veritable ordeal to yourself, just when you had begun to make some plans; yet you surely realize this is very much as the temptation was to the Master, and it is up to us, as individuals, to make the most of existent conditions, and this I am sure you are going to do. These re-investments will eventually work out. Mr. […] will be alright yet.

You know we shall be glad to make the reading for you, for we sincerely desire to be of some help and assistance, whether you are ever able to contribute anything to the work that we are trying to do or not. We feel that your heart and mind is right towards it, and that if you are able why you will be more than glad to do it, if we can be of the least help, and if we are not, after you sincerely following the suggestions as are given by us, certainly you do not owe us anything. So we want to be honest on our part, and we know that you will be on your part. Just at the present time we are dated far ahead, but we will make this appointment and just as soon as we can get to it we will take it. As you know, it is not necessary for us to know where you are at the hour or the day it is taken, but we have the information here that is necessary, and we certainly hope and trust that you are going to find this, not only interesting, but helpful and beneficial to you, as hundreds of others have and are finding every day.
