This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 29th day of August, 1932, in accordance with request made by Dr. A. J. Foerter, Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and Hugh Lynn Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ill. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have those conditions that have disturbed the physical forces of this body, [4389].
-
Now, as we find, general debilitation with slowness of circulation, and with the reactions and over exercising in the reflexes, are the result to the physical forces of the body. The nerve exhaustion that results from same. Not wholly senility, but those weakenings of the circulations through the arterial show the condition to be rather that as may be aided, and an easier condition for the general physical forces, than for any other reactions.
-
These, then, will be rather that as will be an assistant and an aid to the better reactions that may be brought to the body-physical, in the applying - at least once or twice each day - of those vibrations from the plain Radio-Active Appliance. These attached to the body in the extremities, on opposite sides of the body; that is, when to the right wrist, then the left ankle; when to the left wrist, to the right ankle.
-
The medicinal applications for the system would be rather these as a sedative, and also aiding in the eliminations, so that the reactions to the system may be with the advantage of all those forces that may be assimilated by the digestive system: To 2 ounces of simple syrup, add:
Tincture of Valerian…1/2 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, 10% Solution Iodide Potassium…10 minims, 10% Solution Bromide Potassium…60 minims, Tincture of Capsici…1 minim.
Shake the solution together. The dose would be half a teaspoonful twice each day, or oftener if necessary - but with using the appliance in the evening it would not be necessary to take this oftener than twice each day.
-
The diet - rather that that is easily assimilated, with as much of the beef juice (plain beef juice) as may be easily assimilated. Quantities also of cod liver oil, that is easily assimilated - preferably in the form of the cod liver oil tablets, twice each day. When this is washed down, or swallowed, drop 1 to 2 drops of lactated pepsin in half a glass of water and drink it.
-
These, as we find, will bring the better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What dosage of the cod liver oil tablets? (A) One to two tablets. These may be taken one tablet before or after each meal. After the meal would be preferable; or two tablets twice a day.
-
(Q) When would be the best time to apply the battery? (A) As given, in the evening, as it will make the rest much better. Best that it be attached to the wrist each time first; to the right wrist, left ankle; left wrist, right ankle.
-
We are through for the present.

R1. 8/30/32 EC’s ltr. to Dr. Foerter:
Dear Dr. Foerter:-
This is not an attempt to answer your good letter of some days ago, but just a line to enclose the reading gotten for Mr. [4389].
I have had the experience of being a little crosswise with the world myself; consequently, everything has been “out” for the time being. As long as we are human I suppose we have those trials, or to us they seem trials, that really unfit us for anything - if we are honest with ourselves. Oftentimes we are prone to go on and do things we usually regret many days afterward.
I hope the reading for Mr. [4389] will be of some help. The Radio-Active Appliance may be obtained from:
Mr. Gray Salter, Route 2, Box 20, Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
The manner of application of this is entirely different, and the reaction is no doubt quite different from that suggested in the appliance for [2155]. As I said sometime ago, we have found these very helpful wherever they have been followed. I certainly hope you will have enough interest and patience with this to check up on it, should he desire to follow out the suggestions made. As for the prescription or compound given, you will know about this more than I; for I absolutely know nothing about compounds of this nature. We have had quite a number given through the years, some very intricate to compound, some very simple.
I will be quite anxious to have your report on this case, and thank you very much for your letter. I assure you I will try to answer it in the next few days. Also I appreciate very much your sending the paper. I think it is wonderful.
We hope to get Mrs. [2110]‘s reading today.
With kindest personal regards and love to you and yours, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R2. 9/5/32 Dr. A. J. Foerter’s letter: Thank you for you cooperation with my patient Mr. [4389]. Your line on him is very splendid. I am following your suggestions and he is responding very satisfactorily. In your reading you did not touch upon the conditions of his eyes. Of course we were not so much concerned about them at the time of my writing, but I would appreciate now an answer to the following specific questions. First. Is there any treatment that is advisable to institute for the eye condition? Second. Would the exercise of the muscles of his arm and on his left side of the body by means of an electrical stimulation by an instrument of mine called the bi-odyne be all right as an additional feature to the use of the radio-active appliance or not? Third. What mental help should I give to this patient and his helpmate [Mrs. [4388]] who is nursing him? Fourth. Is there any line of an affirmation that I should give them for purposes of using them in cooperation with my work? Fifth. Can anything be given as a suggestion as to just how the observations and recordings of the facts of progress in a case of this kind should be made? Thank you.
R3. 9/10/32 EC’s ltr. to Dr. Foerter:
My dear Dr. Foerter:-
You must feel that I have been very negligent in my correspondence, especially in replying to yours where you so kindly sent me the article so wonderfully prepared on The True Nature of God. [Dr. Foerter’s article was mimeographed and sent to A.R.E. members with the 11/32 Bulletin.] I do not feel that I am capable of offering any sort of criticism on this. There seems to me to be such a unison of thought in the paper with that which has been expressed through our information received through the years, that I feel to say anything would be claiming we are giving the same expression, or that the readings are wholly in sympathy with your own thought. I will say, Doctor, this is beautifully expressed, and I would like very much to have the privilege, if I may, of giving this to some of those who are seeking aid through these channels, as well as to our study group - and the healing group, particularly. Those who have studied the phenomena I am sure will find in this much that has been said in the readings, explained in such beautiful terms, especially in association with the attributes of the physical body and the elements that go to make up the material world which become so necessary to man’s material interests.
No doubt you have received the first notice of the Association bulletin that we expect to distribute each month. I’m wondering if you would allow your article to be given as a serial in that bulletin? It no doubt would be of interest to everyone that is a member of the Association.
We have had now both the good and the bad reports on [2155]. I certainly hope these periods of depression will soon be getting farther and farther apart, and that he will be on the upgrade for the permanent improvement we are all so anxiously looking and praying for. I have never had a report where the battery or appliance produced irritation, but I am very sure that if it is possible for it to produce harmony and proper vibrations it is also possible for it to produce the opposite, if the applications are not just proper. Don’t understand me to be saying that you are not applying the battery properly, or as suggested, but using your paper as the basis for our reasoning, Doctor, let’s just see if you cannot experiment a little with the battery and see a difference in the results; or had you rather have such information come through the readings themselves? But, for my first premise:
The readings have always insisted that one of the manifestations of God materially in the world is what we call electrical vibration. They have also insisted that where most scientists have been looking for that creative in electrical vibration in the very high frequency the place to seek would be in the low, or the opposite end, and it becomes progressive as the life exerts itself. Hence that set in the Radio-Active is of a very low electrical vibration; in fact, as stated in a former letter, it is not active until it is attached to the body, and has the opposite cord from the ice bath in which the appliance is put. This connection to the body should be to centers in the extremities that complete the circulation in electrical vibration, or pulsation, or to centers in the torso of the body where the low vibration passing through increases or decreases the connection in centers from the nervous system to the organ, or organs, so involved by the plexus reaction from the impulse received in the cerebro-spinal or sympathetic nerve system. So, as you see, the plates - by some change from one center to another - may work very effectually in quieting the body, while placed at another center might work just the opposite. Also remember this, the first plate attached is the positive - no matter which is attached first, and the last is the negative. Just as the right and left hand in the magnetic or vital-energy treatments are positive and negative. By the way, did you write to Dr. Prouty? What has been your report from him? Mr. Salter, who has been making the batteries, has studied the radio activity of these, as there have been a few engineers here from the various electrical companies to look into them. I know what we have needed is a medical scientific investigation of the therapeutic value of these appliances. I am sure there is a value, from the results we have gotten. It isn’t altogether imaginative - and, if it is imaginative, as one physician’s mother put it a few years ago when her son (the physician) told her, “Why, Mother, that’s all imagination”, “Please God, then, give me some more imagination, for it helps me.” I hope we can work this out to the advantage and good of our fellow man.
Yes, I have been quite a bit under the weather. I am human - very human - too human, in fact, and allow myself to become angry at times. I thank my Father I haven’t had this experience but a very few times in my life, but I’ve had one recently - and it so poisons my system that I certainly do have a very hard time getting it properly adjusted again. I know it is only by His grace, and the prayers of those for whom I am trying to be a channel of service, that I am even brought back to any stage of usefulness. That’s one of the things that has kept me from writing as I should. Then we have been very busy. The season here is just closing, which closes officially about Labor Day. Quite a number of the old friends of the work have been here during the last few weeks, and quite a number of new ones. This has kept us very busy, and under the circumstances just given above the conditions have been harder rather than softener. I hope I now have hold of myself. I’m not surprised that you and Mrs. Foerter have both sensed the conditions. I know that you are both very sensitive to the mental and spiritual reactions of individuals wherever they may be whom you have contacted. No wonder such energies improperly used receive the criticism of all well-thinking people. It is little wonder that those who look on material successes as most important often question any spiritual abilities in individuals who become so weak as to falter under those things that create such a poison.
I was most anxious to have a report from you and Mrs. [2110] on the life reading. Our experiences, though they have not been so extensive with this type of reading, have led us to believe that the information obtained in these is possibly more far-reaching, mentally and spiritually, than we would ever imagine at the first reading of such an article. As we often express here in the family, we find they are too true. I wish I could have the opportunity to talk with you about many phases of the phenomena. I am sure I am not answering all the questions nor things you have thought about any of these since I last wrote. Let’s hope I will be more prompt in my replies, for I do not know how to tell you how much I appreciate the friendship of you and Mrs. Foerter, nor how very much you have meant to me, nor how often the words you have sent have helped me to ride over some very rough places. If I have been of help in any way, I am sure I have gotten much more myself - for, as the readings have often put it, if we ever get to heaven it will be leaning on the arm of someone we have helped.
If I have failed to answer any of the questions, don’t hesitate to ask them again, knowing that I have not intentionally passed over them but that it is just my inability to grasp all of it in my little mind at one time. You will get a great deal I am sure, though, from the life readings. We often have the question asked, “Well, what good will it do me to know that I lived as John Smith during the Revolution, or was a first settler, or what good will it do me to know that I was among those in the French Revolution, or a wine seller in such and such a period?” Apparently, as your article signifies, God is our everything. Our soul, or our entity, is what it is today from what it has builded in its various experiences, or from how it reacted to the situations under various experiences in the earth’s sphere. From the information, and from the good Book itself, I am more and more persuaded that our Master was the Son of man in that He was Adam. He was the son of God in the He - through His incarnations in the earth - developed to the ability to use that in the material plane through which to manifest, as He did in the immaculate conception. As Adam, as Melchizedek, as Joseph, then in many of the other countries and lands - and as the Son of Mary. Having completed His cycle, He will no longer or no more enter as the man, but “As ye have seen me go, so will I return.” According to the life readings it is more necessary for the desire on the part of the individual having the reading, and for them to be in accord - or at least honestly seeking, than possibly in any other sort of information that may be given. The records that are read, as we have been told, are of the activities of the entity’s own self. Therefore, a desire within a physical body creates an impulse that may be a crime or a miracle, dependent upon the reaction - going in opposition to, or making that desire one with, the will of the Father. As He said, “I do nothing of myself.” “Not as I will, but Thine. For this cause came I into the world.”
I was very much pleased with the report from you both. I am hoping that circumstances will be such that we may have the opportunity to talk together in the near future.
Thank you again and again for your letters, for your prayers. I hope you will write whenever you have the opportunity, if it is only a line.
With love to you and yours, I am
Ever the same, EC:GD
R4. 9/16/32 Dr. Foerter’s letter: “Just a word about Mr. [4389] and his environment. Things are lovely. Some progress in the use of the paralyzed hand and foot. He has a very good appetite. By the way, I asked you about his eyes. He had both of them operated on for glaucoma and is almost bereft of vision.”
R5. 9/17/32 EC’s letter: In regard to Mr. [4389]‘s eyes, I would suggest that you make a poultice of scraped old Irish potato each evening and apply over the eyes. The next morning, or whenever it becomes necessary to remove the poultice, bathe the eyes with a solution of boracic acid. This we have found to be the very best application for any inflammation in or about the eyes. I am sure the stimulation with the bi-odyne would be quite helpful to the body in every respect, because this will cause a more uniform reaction from the radio-active appliance. I don’t think I could make a better suggestion regarding the mental help than the thought carried in your article on knowing God. I do not think I have ever known any better affirmation than that given for my own self, “LET ME BE WILLING, O GOD, TO BE USED AS THOU SEEST FIT, NOW!”
R6. 10/7/32 Dr. Foerter’s letter: “Mr. [4389] is doing fine. Mrs. [4388] is coming right along with her husband. Her first name is […]. I would like to get a reading for her with advice for her physical welfare; also get some additional data for her husband, [4389].”
R7. 10/13/32 Dr. Foerter’s letter: “If you’ll consult file 4389-1, it may be that there will be some further suggestions for good in this case.
“The records show a steady continued improvement not of a large degree. The patient is unable to use his lower limbs for locomotion. His left arm and hand are paralyzed. His left eye has no vision at all having been operated on about 2 years ago for glaucoma. Vision in the right eye is almost nil. This makes it possible that confusion may enter his conscious orientation, but this has been pretty well controlled. At any rate the progress has been more satisfactory than these cases usually are. Thank you.”
R8. 10/18/32 See 4389-2 and 4388-1 for his wife.
R9. 12/16/32 EC’s ltr. to Dr. Foerter:
My dear Dr. Foerter:-
Regarding the hospital or institution work, we have individuals from time to time who would like to go where they could have the suggestions followed closely as given in the readings. This seems to be the greatest problem we have. Often a combination of treatments is suggested, such as manipulations with corrections and medicinal properties of some nature to work with the treatments given mechanically. There have been very few institutions, other than the one we had here, who have been willing to follow all these along together.
If we could have some place where these might be followed, it seems to me that we could do much good, as well as demonstrate very thoroughly that which might be obtained through following the readings.
Time and again I have hoped to talk with you regarding this, rather than trying to write. As you can very well imagine, my thirty years of experience has brought many periods very near to the developing of an institution. Why this hasn’t been done is one of the things I’d like to talk with you about, for it is hard to put it down in black and white.
As an illustration: Only yesterday we had treatments suggested for two ladies that I feel would both go to an institution to have the reading followed, if possible. Many would only require a few weeks, while others would take longer. I would like to know what you think about it.
Many thanks for accepting the position as Regional Representative. I feel sure this will work for the good of many.
Hoping this finds you feeling fine, and with kindest regards and love from all, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R10. 1/4/33 Dr. Foerter’s letter:
ADOLPHE J. FOERTER, M. D. (Letterhead) 126 North Monroe Street Peoria, Illinois
Dear friend:
I wonder what you thot of my little treatise which was to serve as an opening wedge into the subject of vibrations. [See 1/33 A.R.E. Bulletin article entitled VIBRATIONS by A. J. Foerter.] It probably was quite different from the way in which you would have handled that subject, and I am sure that I have a great deal to learn in that field.
I also want to assure you that it pleased me to function as your representative, or field worker here.
Your words regarding a hospital or institution where individuals could receive treatment in line with suggestions given in the readings makes me think that such a place should be close to your home grounds. At least it would seem so if the greater number of inquiries and readings were given to people who call on you in person. Others who are living at a greater distance from you, would probably find it necessary to leave their home towns to go to the place where such an institution would be located, and naturally it would please them more where they could see you occasionally, in place of going to some other city. It would be very unsatisfactory to endeavor to give treatments as we have in mind in one of our modernly organized hospitals. As you no doubt know all hospitals exercise a sort of internal snoopiness to assure themselves that nothing would be done except what is according to hoyle. These standards were established and encouraged with an advertised altruistic motive of protecting the public against any things that hasn’t passed the sanction of the medical profession. I need hardly go any further into that. There is, however, an avenue open to establishing a place for this sort of service, provided that one could procure a state license for same. A place of that sort would have to be a one man concern and be managed in such a manner that no conflict could arise between the authorities that maybe, and the management and practices in that institution. Right now I am feeling that I would have to have time to undertake anything of that sort. There are a few conditions to be straightened out here, so as to give me the opportunity to close my office, and give myself a little recreative activities.
Maybe that your experience with the institution that you did have, would be of value to me in laying plans that would safe guard against errors and assure the success of a new one. I feel very much attracted to you. I feel that I could say very many nice things in connection with my reactions with your work, service and methods of teaching. I also think that you would not give a rap if my reactions were different, because you yourself would feel yourself impelled to do that which you know you should do in HIS SERVICE. So let’s give this the opportunity to sprout and grow under the guidance of a superior wisdom. With best wishes to you and yours, I am
Sincerely yours, [signed] Adolph J. Forerter.

B1. 8/10/32 Dr. A. J. Foerter’s Letter: ”…I have a patient or rather two patients [4389] and his wife [4388] in a sweet elderly couple. These two people have traveled together for many years as we have reckoned time. I have given them some supervision for quite a while. The husband [4389] has been failing of late and has had three or four slight disturbances with the nervous system. Interference with the blood supply and consequent paralysis. I suggested this to her [4388] re seeking your services in his [4389]‘s behalf. I shall have her answer tonight - if yes, then you’ll be the recipient of another missive from here.
“In connection with this situation I am inclined to suggest that you would answer me just the following few questions: How do you wish me to handle a situation in which I ask for your cooperation but in which the person has not progressed far enough in understanding to fully value the service and possibly is unable to cooperate? You no doubt have cases of this right along and have a definite way of meeting them. What should guide me in the decision to ask for your help as far as attitude of the patient is concerned? To whom would you direct the advice and instructions, that is, preferably so?…”
B2. 8/18/32 Dr. Foerter’s Application was received for Mr. [4389], giving his age as 80: ”…He is in bed so that you may find him there at any time. Thanks. This is to be a service to me, so that I might become enabled to do more for the above mentioned [4389]. I enclose ten dollars. If this is not according to Hoyle, why, just do as you feel about it…”
