-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [464].
-
This we have said before may be AIDED. While conditions have changed materially, BETTER were the body - physically AND mentally - to have the surroundings changed for a time, that the whole of the applications as have been given - and as has been outlined - might be followed; for when the body over- steps its routine in diet or in activity OF the body physically to the extent as to UNDO the ACCOMPLISHMENTS of that as has been seen in the corrections - these have been PARTIALLY, not wholly accomplished - in the lumbar and in the sacral region. With the continuation, or with the proper correction - not continuation of just rubbing over it - but with the continuation OF that as will BRING correction, and with the addition of those of the FUME baths - or of medication carried in either electrically or broken up in the steam, these will aid materially. These are NOT JUST Turkish or Swedish - or just massage, but rather as that which carries sufficient heat to prevent coldness, and more of the fumes - or medication in the fumes (steam) - that would cause the RESPIRATORY system and the whole of the eliminations to be set up properly, and then we will get rid of much of this effulgence from the body that is distasteful to the body. We will also assist the eliminations in both the alimentary canal, the kidneys, and reduce this pressure as produced there at times; also overcome the reflexes as cause disturbance in heart’s action - and, most of all, satisfy the body in the mental forces, for THEN will the body be able to CHANGE those amounts of calorie or of the protein and starches and carbohydrates for the system - for THESE worry the body as much as the physical reactions. WE would change the surroundings. We would GO to the Cayce Hospital and GET treated. We are through for this time.

R1. 12/6/29 Mrs. [464]‘s ltr. to EC: Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received the reading and I do not understand what I am supposed to do about the medication carried in either electrically or broken up in the steam, or medication in the fumes. I am all at sea as to just what that means.
I want to go to the Hospital but I cannot get away until the early summer. In the meantime I may as well be doing all I can to assist nature. When I told my folks I wanted to go they said yes go & stay six months or more - glad to get rid of you, & the six months will be as a day to us. So you see what delightful company I am when they want to get rid of me. Well, I can’t stay away even as long as I would like to - six weeks would be my limit - but time will tell. What is a fume bath? How can I electrify it? What is the medicine used? And how applied? I would like very much to know.
I have switched back on the old diet again of vegetables & fruit. I will be glad to hear from you as soon as it is convenient. Will it be necessary to make reservations a long time ahead of time to get in the Hospital? I do not care where I sleep or eat - the treatments are what I am particular about. I will probably want to be out as much as possible. More of that later on.
With best wishes to all. Yours Sincerely
R2. 12/16/29 EC’s letter: Replying to yours of the 6th, the medication electrically, or broken up in steam, are the fume baths. I don’t know whether you are able to get those there or not. These, we have found, have been suggested in quite a number of cases. You will be able to get a cabinet, so that you could use these in your home. So, if you can’t come to the hospital, you can use these there. We are giving you the address from which you can obtain same:
Robinson Household Mfg. Co., Toledo, Ohio.
We are all getting along fairly well. I myself get overworked at times, or something. Anyway, I play out for a while. Have had just such another spell myself. This naturally gums things up for us, for our requests for help far exceed our abilities to carry this out physically. I hope, though, we will be able to do some good.
Let us hear from you, and with kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely, EC:GD
R3. 1/4/30 “I rec’d the catalog from the Robinson Household Mfg. Co. but I have no time to wait on myself now, and I am not so well - too much worry… I have had my husband sick with a baffling stomach trouble for over 4 wks. and I am fairly distracted. I would like to have a rdg. for him…”
R4. 6/17/30 Ltr. from Canada: “It seems that one unhappy condition right after another has happened to me. I never put in such a yr. I was called away from home to come over here - my mother was taken sick. I found her much improved when I arrived, so I stayed and I have been doing all kinds of work putting her house in order, and it needed it. The foundation of the house was about to fall in and my brother-in-law and I tore it down and rebuilt it. There is one thing I have learned, and that is a laboring man earns his pay and if one has to go home to a nagging wife it is just too bad, for I was wearied to death almost when it was time to go to bed. I have helped to build a new porch, split kindling wood, take up carpets, scrub them and lay them down again, and do all kinds of rough, hard work. I have been here almost 4 wks. and will be here another 2 wks.
“I had my husband sick all winter. He was able to go back to work for a month when he was laid off, the same as thousands of others. I had my mother with us all winter worrying and fretting. She was only home 2 months when they sent for me. After all is life worth living?
“I have improved in health very much, but I still have trouble with my back and ankles… I am not nearly so nervous as I used to be, oh, nothing like. I get bilious every now and then and know that my blood does not circulate as it should, but I go places and do things that I haven’t done for years. I spend most of my time here outdoors. I wouldn’t be doing that in Ohio.”
R5. 5/28/31 “I am holding my own except for sciatica, lumbago, gravel and a nasty cough. Yeah? Can you think of anything else to afflict this mortal with? Well, not if I see you first. I was in hopes I would get a chance to see you and the hospital before this, but we have had so much trouble, such unexpected difficulties, that going any place is simply out of the question. I was invited to go to Buffalo but I said I had no money to stay home with, let alone go away.”
R6. 7/15/31 “I am feeling fairly well. My back and hips bother me. I never did get that pressure in my back straightened out, so I still find it hard to keep my balance.”
R7. 9/30/31 “I am feeling miserable again. Indigestion is the cause of the disturbance. Nothing agrees with me. If I eat I get a headache, and if I do not eat I get a headache. It gets me coming and going.”
R8. 10/8/31 “I find my nerves are much better but my back bothers me. I hope I shall never be so foolish as to return to the old tea habit. I thought I could never give it up, but I did and stuck to it… I dearly loved my good, strong cup of tea
- maybe 1, maybe 2, maybe 3 at a time. I tried Postum for a substitute but I found it not so innocent in its action as it is advertised to be. So I had to quit that. I knew that strong tea was hard on the nerves. I have taken on weight, too much, that makes me think the glands are not working right, for it has been my experience to KNOW that weight has nothing to do with good health…the ‘coils and the spark plugs’ must be in good running order, or the oils or the gas are no good. So it is in my case, my oils and fats don’t mean a thing except to shorten my breath and make it hard for me to carry myself up and down stairs and give my friends and family a chance to say all kinds of smart things at my expense - such as ‘tubby’… I am too fat.”
