Theosophist) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia beach, Va., this 30th day of June, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [470], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. GC: You will have before you the life existence in the earth place of [470], born August 6, 1889, in Joliet, Ill., and the earthly existence of this entity as Sofric Dunhill, in Cork in Ireland. You will give a biographical life of the entity in that day and plane of earthly existence, from entrance - and how - into the earth’s place, and the entity’s departure; giving the development or retarding points in such an existence, and its relation to his present life. You will then answer the questions he submits, as I ask them, concerning former appearances and associations as compared with the present:

2. EC: Yes - we have that record here of that entity now known as [470]; also that period particularly known as Sofric Dunhill.

3. In that particular experience there had been the feudal activities among those of the varied clans; not only in Ireland (upper and lower) but with some of those from across the Irish Sea.

4. There we find that the entity, Sofric Dunhill, entered with a goodly family - of Patrick Dunnhill; there being a little change in the name later, for the entity was known as Sofric Dunhill - one “n” in the name instead of two - owing to the very agreements, or manner of agreements that were reached by those clans during that particular period, - when there had been such stirring changes in the English land - as now called - and neighbors.

5. And there was the attempt to build, and was the building up of an industry by the particular clan in which this entity grew, - in not only the feudal activities, not only as a young man with the abilities to withstand the bouts in which the peoples of that particular group and clan engaged, but in those more of a commercial nature - in the form of a character of ware that was formed from clay.

6. There may be found yet some evidences of the activities of the entity in relationships to some of those hangings there, during those periods (that is, where individuals were hung - executed, see?); as well as the early periods of the Dunhill China or stoneware, - plates, bowls, and various characters in which the entity excelled, in being able to turn to particular usage those things used to build kilns for the burning of such ware.

7. And, as may be seen, these are still known as the Dunhill methods, - as begun by this entity; and the manners may be seen in which this ability has been magnified in the periods of activity of the entity in the present, pertaining to various types of foundries in which such wares may be said to be an outcome or a growth or development from same.

8. There were both good and bad influences, as would be judged from the spiritual angle - if determined in the minds of individuals in the present day.

9. But there were not only the abilities to impel by the power physically in that particular period, but the abilities of the entity to impel by the very ability to supply an outlet for physical activities in which there was the semblance of those things that would be called educational in the present, as well as creating a product that would be sought in other lands.

10. Hence we find the entity grew in the powers or influences throughout that experience.

11. There were also periods during that particular sojourn of the entity when there were the attempts to persuade the entity to become an emigrant to be used in other lands. Many of those who were associated with the entity, many of those who were personally trained by the entity, did become emigrants to the new land; for those were the periods of the Cabots, as well as the Lodge, as well as the experiences in the French and the English lands as related to the beginning of the expeditions to the other land.

12. However, the entity refrained from leaving its native land, though oft almost impelled by the desire for an outlet for the emotions for power, might and main, to become a part of those experiences. Yet we find the entity remained throughout the experience in that particular area around Cork, and only in the few periods were there even the visits to other sections, except when such were used as attempts to contact those who would supply an outlet for the goods or those things manufactured by the entity in the environs about Cork.

13. Now, it has been indicated that there may yet be found indications about that particular vicinity of those activities. These will be found in the earthen hills to the North and East of what is still known as Cork, Ireland.

14. Also among the records (but not as easily located) may be found still indications of the activity in which the entity engaged there, - in the hills where there was the manufacturing of this earthen ware, - into china, or plates, bowls and things of that nature.

15. Not an old man in years, as would be counted according to some of the experiences of the entity; only reaching an age of fifty-eight years and six months, in the experience.

16. The entity gained, the entity lost.

17. In the present the entity will find urges for the associations with things where metals or furnaces or such natures are a part of the experience.

18. Ready for questions.

19. (Q) Was my present wife, [1100], associated with me in that incarnation? (A) We do not find the close association or a contact in that particular period.

20. (Q) Does my coming trip to Italy tie up in any way with any of my past incarnations? (A) It might be said that this may easily be considered a pattern of the attempt of the entity, as Sofric Dunhill, to interest the English activities in the wares; as in the present the abilities of the entity are being sought by those because of his ability to produce products or things and conditions needed for a greater commercial activity.

The present activities are patterns or shadows, rather than saying they are an outcome of that particular experience, see?

21. (Q) What associations have I had with the entity now known as Henry Ford? and how may they be used for our mutual benefit in the present? (A) A very close association with the entity, Henry Ford, in that particular environ, - that is, in the Irish, see? For we find that both were interested in the activities in that particular land, - the entity now known as Ford SUCCEEDING or taking OVER, with the latter portion of the entity’s experience in that land.

As to how they may be used, as we find - as indicated - in the particular interest each has in those ways and means of the preparation of minerals, or ores, for use in commercial ways and manners.

The combining of these, then, as we find, may only be done through their interest in those fields of activity which might bring a better quality as well as quantity of such materials through their concerted activity.

22. (Q) Is there anything else I can do in the present to contact him? (A) We would let these go through those channels that have been and are being opened. As we find, there may be a contact before there is even the sailing, or a completing of same in the land where the entity goes.

23. (Q) Have I had any associations in the past with [1472]? and how, etc.? (A) These as we find have been in some contemporary quarters, but as to close association we do not find it so; though the ACTIVITIES of EACH in their varied PHASES of action in other experiences were not unknown - and were considered, - but not personal contacts, as we find.

See, there was the experience in the Palestine land, as it may be called in the present; or in the associations from the Egyptian to the Peruvian land, see? See, there was more an awareness of the other’s activities, rather than close associations.

Hence helpful forces from EITHER may be a part of the experience or development in the present.

24. (Q) Did I have a Roman incarnation during the time of the Master? (A) The entity had NOT a Roman incarnation but rather a Grecian, AND partially in the Roman service and activity during that particular period.

25. (Q) Will you interpret for me the meaning of the figures you see in my aura? [EC had recently read [470]‘s aura, consciously.] (A) These as we find are the vibrations to which the entity attains in its CONCERTED - no, that’s not the word - in its SINCERE activity; bringing those figures representing a portion of its NEEDS for those vibratory forces as may be the effect of electrical application, see?

These are more in the form of figures as would become manifested by the vibrations as cast off, - thus the meaning of same would be the INTENSENESS of the entity in WHATEVER the entity attempts to bring into materialization through mental activity.

26. (Q) Will you give me instructions on how to meet the changed conditions during may stay in France and Italy, so that I may be of greater service to my fellow man and spread good will between the different peoples? (A) The entity, as has been indicated, is intense. Hence, not to that extent of becoming objectionable to even any of those through whom and to whom the entity may contact in the lands to which the entity goes. For there is the preclusion of any argument in the fact that there are unusual abilities in the entity because of the very nature of the endeavors and that organization or company the entity represents. The same may be said as to the peoples from which the entity comes.

Hence there needs be only this: Be the SELF in all of those new contacts. Not as if it was superior, - that is, self superior, - but not as trying to take from, rather trying to be a HELPFUL service in the spiritual, the mental and the material manifestations.

Such may appear general, - yet as the entity contacts the varied forms and customs of the lands through which and to which the entity goes, he will find the greater needs for being HIMSELF, - and that in the same manner as ye measure to the individuals, the groups, THAT ye expect of THEM in return!

R1. 7/15/39 “Rec’d the reading and showed it to [1472]. It seems that Henry Ford was there also, as well as in the Egyptian and others. Maybe I’m paying up now for some of the hangings in the Irish incarnation. Maybe that is why I have Saturn putting the damper on me. Time will tell and will have to work it out. Anyway, if I do get the chance will go to Cork and see what I can find out about Dunhill pottery and methods.”

R2. 8/4/39 Mrs. [1472]‘s letter to HLC: “John J. O’Neill [Science Editor for N.Y. Herald Tribune] gave me permission (at a former luncheon I recently had as his guest) to use his name whenever and wherever I felt it would be of service in connection with your father’s work, so I asked his permission to let [470] refer Mr. Henry Ford to him as well as to me. I had today the new letter drafted by [470] for Mr. Ford, and hope to get to the Ford men when I go over to the Fair tomorrow. I think the new letter excellent, and shall ask [470] when he arrives Monday to let me send a copy of it to your father (if he has not already done so).”

R3. 8/16/39 “I have heard nothing yet from the [470] letter to Henry Ford. I have gotten it into Mr. Ford’s hands. The rest is up to God. I’m sure it reached him because it was sent to him personally by Mr. Black, Mr. Ford’s personal manager here at the Fair.”

R4. 8/10/39 Letter on letterhead of HENRY FORD, Dearborn, Mich., addressed to Mr. [470] in Italy [Sent to EC on 9/29/39 by Mrs. [1472]:

Dear Mr. [470]: Mr. Ford has requested me to thank you for your letter of August 1, which has just arrived.

He has asked me to say that he will be glad to keep Mr. Cayce in mind and at some opportune moment make a further investigation of his work.

R5. 9/25/39 EC’s letter to Mrs. [264]: “[1100] and [470] went to Italy. They were on their way back here when last heard. Hope they make it all o.k. Am anxious about them.”

R6. 9/25/39 Mrs. [1100]‘s letter: “Thank God we are safe back home! Had a very hectic experience and saw all of Europe that we care about seeing and are mighty thankful to be home… Conditions are much worse in Italy than the outside world knows anything about and we thought we would have trouble in getting away, as the Italian company did not want [470] to leave - said he was supposed to stay, even if Italy did go to war. It was a very novel experience and one to be remembered. Felt your influence very strongly at times and know that you were instrumental in having an opportunity open up for us to leave.” [See subsequent Ck. Physical Readings for [470] and [1100].]

R7. 5/24/41 Wife’s letter: “Thought you would be interested in the enclosed correspondence. The letter from Mr. Liebold of May 6th, we have not answered yet and would like any comments or suggestions from you.”

R8. 5/26/41 EC’s letter: “Think [470] knows how to write it up alright, and that [470] was the first person treated in the [Cayce] Hospital! Could it [the hospital] have kept on, what a record it might have made, but possibly it was just not be… Thanks so much for the correspondence with Mr. Henry Ford’s secretary - don’t know how one could improve on the letter proposed or written on April 23rd [GD’s note: Mr. [470] must have written Henry Ford a report on his reading from Edgar Cayce], think that covers the matter fully; doesn’t say too much but enough that if he is interested he will ask for more. Certainly appreciate the way [470] has handled this and please thank him properly for me.”

R9. 6/24/41 He obtained a Ck. Life on his Egyptian incarnation - 470-33.

R10. 8/12/42 Wife [1100]‘s letter: “It is amusing to me how Raymond McDermott [blind astrologer, Theosophist] denounces psychics and psychism so much, calling himself an occultist. Of course he includes you in his list of psychics, yet he used the birth hour for [470]‘s horoscope that was given by you and the whole thing [27 pages!] leads up to the one thing stressed in the Life Reading - the electricity. The hour of birth given by you for [470] gives him Leo rising, and when Raymond first met [470] he said he was sure [470] did not have Leo rising, yet he does have, acoording to Raymond’s horoscope.”

R11. 8/14/42 EC’s: “Well, is good that at least we arrive at the same conclusion, as to [470]‘s real work… Tell [470] that I got to speak to Father Brennan [Rev. Philip P. Brennan] the other day and gave him the print [which [470] made of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church] - he was very pleased, and said to me: ‘Mr. [470] is a nice man - do not know what would have done without him that evening coming to the Beach’ - and then he said, ‘A lot of your folks are especially nice to me - I think I once misjudged you badly.’” [GD’s note: Mr. [470] sat next to Father Brennan on the train, I believe; he was suffering with an attack of some sort (cholecystitis or kidney stones?) and Mr. [470] helped him to get home, also gave him the tr. for relief which was given years before for Mr. [470]‘s friend Mr. [1060]. Father Brennan was relieved but later had to have surgery.]
