This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of October, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [4719].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the Universe, and Universal Forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving time, place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity, giving the abilities of the present entity and to that which it may attain, and how.

2. EC: Yes, we have those influences as are latent and exhibited in the present life, with the will’s influence, and those conditions as have been brought to the life in the present plane through the application of same, as well as the environmental conditions in same.

3. In entering the present earth’s plane, we find the entity coming under the influence of Mercury, Jupiter, and of Venus, with the benevolent influences in Neptune and Uranus - adverse influence of Mars and of the Moon.

4. These influences, then, with their relative conditions, are as these in the present life, and there are many urges manifested and latent from appearances in the earth’s plane, that are seen and known by entity, and, were these applied, often would bring more of the beneficent and of the money influence in the present life. In those conditions, then, as seen, are as these:

One who has had many varying influences in the life - many that have seemingly brought the entity to that position where the entity would feel everything will be alright, when just the ones whom the entity depended upon most seem to fail. Not with malice or attempt to belittle the entity’s endeavors or aims, yet never quite succeeding in many conditions.

6. One, then, of high mind.

7. One considered, and one who is INNATELY courteous, kind, generous, in every manner; yet there comes the times when seemingly something pre-occupies the mind, and little courtesies are forgotten. Not in intent or in purpose, yet these same conditions bring to the entity, often, those of conditions of which and in and through which the entity often belittles self when such should not be the case.

8. One given to the study of history, art, medicine, and of the action of mind over the body, as natural conditions.

9. One who studies environment, and one who would have made (and as the early influence was - yet those same conditions of small matters or conditions changed) an excellent politician.

10. One that will find that in the fifty-second year of the life will bring as many changes as have ever been wrought in the life, and with the knowledge of conditions as are seen may be turned to that way and manner as will bring much good to the entity in financial, in social, and in many ways, for through these channels, as will be presented during the early and middle portion of that year, much good may be accomplished by the entity for others. In the elements as bring these conditions are seen that, with the beneficent influences in Jupiter, and that of the extraordinary influence of Uranus in the earth’s plane, will, of those natural forces, bring about many of the urges as are of the innate influence in the entity’s earthly existence - for each sojourn is of that element that gives the innate urges in an entity in its passages through the earth’s plane, in the same manner as that environmental conditions have to do with an earth’s sojourn, for these may be overcome, yet a gentleman always shows himself a gentleman, until same has been submerged through other conditions.

11. In those conditions, then, as appear as those urges, latent and exhibited, through the appearances:

12. In the one before this we find in those days when the settling of this land in which the entity is as a sojourner, the entity then in the name Isaac Kline, in the land now known as the Virginian. The entity then among those of the second group landing in that place of the first English settlement. The entity then gained through the administering to the individual needs of many during that period of struggle to hold the place, for the entity lost the life during that sojourn in the defense of that place. Often has been the desire to see and to know the position of that place - well would the entity find this a very interesting spot. Much is still to be seen that would be of interest. The urge as is seen is ever the desire to lend assistance to one physically weak. That giving, then, the greater desire for the study of those conditions going to make up the chemical conditions of the body, and of other elements as related to same.

13. In the one before this we find during that period of the incoming of the peoples from the sea to that land now known as the Roman country. The entity then in the name Iabod, and the entity lost and gained, for the entity was in that position of being forced to serve in the capacity of the warrior of that period, being subservient to the will of others who ruled. In the service gained. In the abandoning of the service, and becoming lord and master of a portion of that country, the entity forgot the oppressing portions and oppressed, where there was only vengeance taken. In the urge as is seen in the present, both latent and as manifest - that of the desire to know the intricate conditions concerning any element that is of a rule or law. Hence wherein the entity would have made a good politician. That as manifest in the present - that desire ever to be known as fair in all dealings.

14. In the one before this we find in that land when the division was in the Egyptian country, now known. The entity then among those who assisted those that gave the first assistance to the ills of the peoples, being then among those who assisted that councillor to adjudge the physical conditions, and making many of the tenets of composition in drug, as known - mineral and vegetable, and of animal - using also much of that as afterwards grew to be that of the lines that would bring certain charm. In the urge from this there is seen that of the entity’s love of study of religious differences, rather than religion. Rather the practise of the tenets of the religion, than of the claims as would be set forth. Then in the name Arsia, and the entity gained much during this period, this being the first in the earth’s plane, and through that the entity may apply the greater force as may be manifest in the present period, for the entity’s abilities lie, through the present environment, through those conditions and elements as have been builded in the entity, in that of compiling data, and of compounding those conditions that would give succor, aid, to the sick, the afflicted, and as the assistant to one who would give such aid should the entity lend self in building those tenets again, around which so much builded and so much depended during that first sojourn in the earth’s plane.

15. As to how, the entity will find that such positions, such conditions, will be in the position of being in that way of coming about in the fifty-second year. Take advantage of same - remembering that service to others, and the highest service is assisting the fellow man - making self first aright, in body and in mind, with that Creative Force. As God manifests same in the world, so show thyself to be the portion of that Creative Energy that would give the better understanding to those who would seek His face.

16. Then, in that manner, bring self to that place where in the next sojourn would be nearer to those Creative Forces, as are ever developing through the eons of space in the better worlds - Above.

17. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Life reading for me was forwarded me from Selma, which I received on the 12th inst., for which I thank you more than I can say - it is truly wonderful in its significance and the accuracy of the statements that I am able to comprehend.

It appears to be so full of meaning that I am not satisfied to let it go for just the things that I may be able to develop from it and I am enclosing herewith a number of things that I want to ask you to help me bring out.

It is truly a deep study and involves questions that I have thought considerably of in the last few years.

I hope you were successful in the physical reading on the 12th. I remained on the mezzanine floor of the Alabama hotel between the hours of 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M., to be sure that there would be no error in the difference of time, and hope to hear from this reading in next day or two.

Page 1 [4719-1, Par. 2] “Environmental conditions”, I presume refer to the effect the environments would have upon the mental conditions.

Page 2, Par. 2. [Par. 5] This is true - I frequently have that calm assurance that, everything will be alright. “When just the ones whom the entity depended upon most, seemed to fail” - To whom does this refer? THIS IS A VITAL POINT.

Page 3, Par. 4 and 5 [Par. 6, 7] - “One, then, of high mind.” “One considered, and one who is INNATELY courteous, kind, etc.” Does this refer to entity considered, or the “Ones” mentioned in paragraph above? The last whole line of this paragraph is SO true.

Page 3, Par. 1 and 2 [Par. 8, 9], are so true.

Please explain, in last paragraph on this page [Par. 10], if possible, what and how changes will be wrought in the 52 year, and how I can know which is the proper channel to select to bring the most good to myself and others.

Please explain what it meant in the last part of this paragraph on page 4 [Par. 10] - what “environmental conditions” are to be overcome? and what conditions can prevent a gentleman from being a gentleman at all times and under all circumstances?

Page 4, Par. 2 [Par. 12], Do I understand that the entity that is represented in me was also in Isaac Kline, and that, on page 5 and paragraph 1 [Par. 13] the same entity was embodied in “Iabod”, the Roman and then the same, which was not named, as assisting in alleviating the sufferings, or ills of the Egyptians? What division of country is referred to here?

Page 6 [Par. 14], “Then in the name “Arsia”, the first in the earth’s plane” - Am I to understand that this was the first sojourn on earth, and that the same entity under the preceding names existed prior to this period?

I do love to study the tenets of all reasonable religions, with only one aim in view, that of seeking Truth and the infinite laws of God and their relation to us here and hereafter.

In this paragraph you say that my abilities lie through the present environment, does this mean Selma or Anniston? or does it refer to vocation rather than place or both?

To what line of endeavor would you think the rest of this paragraph refers?

I only know two things and these are the drug business and insurance, and I have very little faith in drugs.

I am trying to specialize on placing monthly income protection for widows and orphans, accident and health to guarantee the income of the bread-winner, and a systematic savings plan to prevent old men and women from being dependent on relatives and charity.

My dear Mr. [4719]

I have yours of the 14th. I don’t know whether I should undertake to try to answer the questions that you ask, from my experience with the Life Readings or whether I should take another reading. However, I will say here, if I do not answer each question satisfactorily, or do not bring out just the information you desire, we shall be glad to undertake another reading for you as soon as its possible - but, as you already know, we usually stay dated up from three to six weeks in advance.

I certainly am glad to know that you found this interesting, for more and more, as we study these readings, by the expressions from individuals for whom they are given, we find them worth while.

I’m in hopes you have found your physical reading as interesting as the other, and that you have already consulted Dr. Woodall in respect to same. I am anxious to know the results, for I feel that you, like others, will get results if you will carry out the suggestions given.

Now, as for the questions on the Life Reading: First,

Page 1 [4719-1, Par. 2]. Environmental conditions. This, as I understand, refers to the effects as have been created in the mental body through environmental conditions, together with that change as wrought by the manifesting of will’s force respecting same. Both the good and the bad are seen in same.

Page 2, paragraph 2 [Par. 5] - I do not know that this refers to any particular individual, other than you yourself may already know. I am sure in the reading this would not give individual names, but this rather as one of the influences that has shaped and does shape circumstances and conditions in your life.

Page 3, paragraph 4 and 5 [Par. 6, 7]. As I would understand this, by NATURE you are courteous and kind, yet there are times when circumstances make you feel sore, even at yourself, toward someone, or individuals, whom you feel do not respond correctly to same. That, as I would see, is what it means by “high minded”, or in other words, high mindedness may be one of the graces, at the same time it often proves disconcerting when we see littleness in others.

Page 3, paragraph 1 and 2 [Par. 8, 9]. I wish I could talk to you personally concerning this, Mr. [4719], for to give you my version of it must necessarily go into many of the readings we have had on different individuals, and I hope I don’t tire you with this explanation.

Naturally, we have had a great many of these Life Readings. Occasionally we find there are individuals, or entities, who were associated at some particular time - many of them, of course, more than once, but there seems to have been one period, especially, in the world’s history when, as the readings give, it was a most momentous period in the world’s history - for, from the things done at that time, a great many, or practically all of the different phases of man’s existence in the earth plane have builded up from the things accomplished by a group during that period. Now, you seem to have been one of this group. We have found, too, this circumstance, which, as I have to repeat, seems to make the readings more worth while: No individual as yet, no matter whether I have ever known him, or whether he has known little or much concerning this phenomena as manifested through me - but, wherever it has given that one was associated with this group at this time, seemingly that individual has shown, unconsciously - until he is told about it - a real vital interest in the phenomena. Now, this covers people in the present plane who are writers, leaders in business, heads of great commercial enterprises, manufacturers, physicians, and laymen. Now, as I understand it, the greater number of this group are preparing to, or are launching much of the same undertaking in the present period as was done ten thousand years before Christ, and in your fifty-second year you will be given the opportunity to join this group and fill your place as you did at that time! Now, possibly you may think this is a far-fetched idea, and it may make you wonder what manner of peoples these are, and what it is they are going to undertake - that, as you know, would be almost impractical for me to try to tell you in a letter, but I am in hopes in the near future, if you are still interested, that I’ll have the opportunity to talk this over with you, and you with many of the others.

Page 4, paragraph 2 [Par. 10]. As I understand this, the spiritual body has inhabited earthly bodies known by the various names as are given in the different periods - as on Page 6 [Par. 14], the name Arsia being the first appearance of the entity in the earth’s plane. Entity here, as I understand, is spoken of in two ways. When it is spoken of as an earthly entity, it includes the physical body, or material body, also the spiritual body. When the spiritual body departs from the earthly body, it is as a spiritual entity. Hence influence of sojourns in other spheres or planes of the earthly existence - meaning planetary conditions or effects in the life. So, according to the readings, we have SOMETHING in astrology, but not that just as has been given by so many astrologers - but we have an influence innate within us much after the same manner as any very exciting experience in our physical being, unconsciously influences our life thereafter.

As regarding the abilities and the present environs, I do not understand that it means any given place - rather vocation, as may be applied with the various endeavors of the entity under the different influences as arise from time to time.

Now I hope, Mr. [4719], I haven’t clouded the vision rather than clarified it - but, should there be any other questions you would like to ask me, I shall be more than glad to try to explain them. I am sure we have much data that would be very, very, interesting to you, along theological, theosophical, theoretical, and metaphysical lines. I don’t think I am fooling myself when I say this information, as a whole, has made me understand what is written in our Bible better than I ever did before. At least I can say this: It is more satisfying - not more satisfying than the Bible, I don’t mean that - but makes the tenets of the Christian religion more satisfying. I surely wish that we did have the opportunity to talk these things over, and for you to meet and talk to many of the others that are interested in it, and who are studying the various phases of the phenomena as they appeal to them, and peculiarly enough, each individual seems to be studying that same phase as he did so long ago in that WE call Time.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

After receiving blank asking a report on your two Psychic readings 4719-1 and 4719-2 for me, I have studied them thoroughly together with the letter in reference to the first one and I am compelled to admit that this is the most wonderful revelation I have ever known except those I have obtained from the Bible - in pondering over this reading this afternoon, I have been made to realize more fully, certain things about myself, that I had not considered in just the same light, and I wish it were possible to see you and talk to you about a number of things which you developed in this reading that would be almost impossible to take up in any other way.

Mr. Cayce, I know that God is Infinite mind and that man was made in His image and likeness and that the real man is capable of attuning himself to this Infinite mind and realize the infinite possibilities that God intended for us to enjoy

• that the same laws and forces that were created in the beginning, are just the same as they were then, and will always be the same, and that when we learn to “Tune in” with these laws and forces, that we can realize and enjoy the fullness of His creation, as He intended us to from the beginning - I also believe that the Spiritual realm is more real than this present existence, and that all matter is subservient to Mind - that it was this “Mind which was also in Christ Jesus”, that enabled Him to heal the sick, make the lame to walk, the deaf to hear, the blind to see and dead to be restored to this life again - we also have the manifestation of these laws through the Prophets, before Jesus came into the world and I have seen evidences of them in my life time, and I do not believe that Jesus had reference to any particular age or set of people when He said that “What I do, ye shall do also and more, for I go unto the Father”.

I have for several years been seeking the Truth and trying to grasp these laws, that are ours if we can only know them, and if you can help me get more light in this way I hope to be able in the future to help you so that you can carry on this work of helping others.

Mr. Cayce, in the 3rd paragraph on page 3 [4719-1, Par. 10] of this reading, where you refer to the many changes that will take place in my fifty-second year, “And with the knowledge of conditions as are seen may be turned to that way and manner that will bring much good to the entity in financial, social, and in many ways, for through these channels as will be presented during the early and middle portion of that year, much good may be accomplished by the entity for others” - how can I know these urges and can you help me to get at them in a more definite way, that I may not overlook them when they are presented?

I am still with the above [Insurance] Company and working hard but there seems to be some forces within me that seem to be antagonistic and my efforts seem to be wasted, and I just can’t understand it - can you help me? If necessary to give me another reading will you kindly do so and just as soon as I am in position to show you my appreciation, of your kind efforts, I will gladly do so in a concrete way.

Dear Mr. [4719]

I have yours of the 3rd, and wish that I could tell you how much I appreciate same. You know it is bound to be such expressions as you make concerning the readings that are gotten that makes them so much worth while to me - for, as someone has expressed it, I have long since realized I am doing a missionary work, and there is not everyone endowed with the insight such as you have to gain the full meaning and understanding of the information that is gotten. But, when we know that it does mean so much to people, we are made to realize that it is worth all the time that I am able to give to it - for that something that makes any man bigger and better is worth while.

I am just hoping and trusting that the time will come when we can exchange ideas more - when you will have the opportunity to see much more of the data that is being gotten, and study the effect this is creating in the lives and the hearts of many others. You know, I believe this is what is meant in the paragraph you refer to in your Life Reading. You know, we are going about to establish this institution. I believe you are going to be associated with this institution. How, or in what capacity, I don’t know. But this is the way I get it. Of course, there will be that department where the drugs for the institution will have to be taken care of - also that department where much of the metaphysical will have to be explained - for if you could see the information that is gotten from time to time, you would soon realize - as no doubt you already do - that all of these things have their part in man’s existence. As to how great a part they play, depends upon man’s mental development - or better perhaps it would be to say, man’s ability to APPLY his own mental development towards his own life - and I believe you are going to have your part in all of this work.

Now, possibly this is a very foreign idea to your mind - possibly you have never thought along this line - possibly you wouldn’t want to leave your part of the country - possibly you wouldn’t want to be associated with anything of the kind even if you could - but you asked me for my opinion, and I am giving it to you honestly, as I see it. And this is how I arrive at the conclusion:

We have had readings for a considerable number of people, but we find that here and there, there are individuals who have at some other period been associated for a definite work, and the information in the readings tell us those same people contacting this information through these sources at this time will be given the opportunity to be associated together again for a definite work, on account of our own - their own

• peculiar fitness for a definite part in same. Not that it may not be filled by someone else, but that they may BETTER fill their place then ANYONE else. Now that is why I say what I do.

I am hoping, though, that sometime in the very near future we will have the opportunity to get together and talk these matters over, and possibly we can arrive at some conclusions that will be helpful and beneficial to us both. Dear Mr. Cayce:

I have just finished reading Mr. Blumenthal’s lecture [See 4863-2 Reports], which you were so kind to mail me, and I think it the most comprehensive treatise on this subject that I have ever read - it has opened up new lines of thought for me, upon which, I cannot place too much value. I am only too sorry that I am not in position to help in a financial way, at this time, but it certainly is my intention to do so just as soon as I am in different circumstances.

Mr. Cayce, you wrote me at Selma last year, which I received just about the time I was leaving there, and I have been confused and unsettled since that I overlooked a number of things that I should have attended to, and your letter was one of the most important.

In that letter you spoke of needing someone of my ability to take care of a certain work in your organization, when it was completed, suggesting, however, that I may not care to work along these lines, but I want to assure you that I would be very glad to be connected with an institution that is doing the good for humanity that I am confident yours is doing, and whose possibilities are unlimited.

Mr. Cayce, I firmly believe that this is the line of work that I was intended to do, for ever since I was a young man, I have had such a strong desire, or urge to do some work of this kind, but never could find just what it was.

I am thoroughly in sympathy with your work and institutions and if you feel that you can use me in the capacity mentioned in your letter, I will be glad to go into it with you.

My dear Mr. [4719]

I was very glad to have yours of the 8th. I am certainly glad to know that you enjoyed Mr. Blumenthal’s lecture. It was received very fine in Birmingham, and VERY good in Chicago - and we have had some wonderful comments on it from time to time.

Now, regarding the work - we are hoping to very soon get started with the building proper. It will possibly be mid-summer or early fall before we will be ready for full operation. We are finding more and more the need of the study of the compounding of the prescriptions as are given in the readings; for of course this has its phase and part in the work as any of the rest of it - for so long there has been builded a drug conscience that must be dealt with. We have discussed quite often the advisability of having someone associated with same that is interested in the phenomena as phenomena, and also a capable prescriptionist. We realize that it is a hard combination to find, and until we had your Life Reading couldn’t imagine where one could be found. Now we are not in a position, of course, to make any definite plan or offer at this time; but as soon as we ARE in running order, such a condition must be met - and if it would be appealing to you in any way, why we can’t imagine anything any better than having you associated with the work. In the first place, it will be necessary to have - as it were - an office assistant to the doctor. Now this might be combined, IF such would appeal to you. The only way as I can see - as soon as we are ready - is for you to drop in to see us, talk the thing over, you see the situation, know what’s what - then we can see what can be done. In the meantime, let us keep in touch with you - and we will advise you as to how developments go on here.

I am temporarily located here and would be glad for you to write me fully what you have in mind and I will be pleased to negotiate with you.

I know that the hospital must be wonderful and would so like to be connected with an institution that has the wonderful possibilities that this one has, in connection with your work.

I misplaced the picture of hospital that you sent me and will appreciate you enclosing another or two in your next letter.

Dear Mr. [4719]

Have yours of the 22nd. Certainly very glad to have a line from you. I wish you might have been with us on the 11th. We certainly did have a beautiful address by Dr. Brown. This we are having published and will send you a copy of it sometime in the near future. I hardly know how to explain to you what I have in mind, Mr. [4719]. Possibly when things are a little further along and we have the building open and running, it will be very well for you - if you can arrange to do so - to be here sometime when we have a Board meeting, and we can go into these matters a little bit more and see if we can’t arrive at something where we can be mutually helpful to each other. We are undertaking a big work and realize we have to have the right sort of people around us. There are many different phases, many branches of the work. While we know we can’t do it all, yet possibly we can build the foundation properly so that the next generation may be a great deal better equipped to meet the needs of humanity, and to assist them in gaining a more prefect understanding of their relationship both to their fellowman and to their Creator.

Let us hear from you. I sincerely hope you may be able to drop in on us sometime in the near future. We hope to have the building open and going by the 1st.

I think, unless you have made other arrangements, circumstances are such that - should you desire to become associated with a drug business that would be affiliated with the hospital - we could arrange it for you.

There hasn’t been a day since I left Virginia Beach that I haven’t thought of you and your wonderful organization, and hope to get back there January 2nd.

I had a letter from Mr. Benstock a few days ago saying that he would get there on the 3rd of January and asked me to be there when he arrived - also just received a letter from Mr. Franklin F. Bradley in reference to the manufacturing, which seems to be working right in with other plans, which I am very optimistic over.

I wish for you, your good family and hospital force a very happy Christmas and to thank all of you for the kindness and many courtesies shown me during my short visit there.

I have yours of the 12th. I have been trying to find the opportunity to write you for some time. I am sure you gathered from Mr. Bradley’s letter that I haven’t neglected taking you into consideration in the formation of the work that we are undertaking here. While I don’t know whether he gave you a line-up of just how the distribution of the stock will be - this may be left over, and I am sure it will be, until you are on the ground, and we have the opportunity to go over the organization in the proper way and manner.

Mr. Benstock has been here for the last few days going over the situation as regarding the building, etc. He hasn’t been able to, or was not able to get the building that we would like. This, however, may be changed a little bit later on. He is taking the one next to the Post Office, as you possibly know.

I believe things are going to work out alright. It won’t be but a few weeks now before you will be with us. Take care of yourself. Let us hear from you, and if there is anything I can do, why let me know.

R17. 2/15/30 S. J. Benstock wrote EC that Mr. [4719] was going back into the insurance business as an agent; he did not want to work for the salary [pharmacist’s] that Benstock Drug Company could afford to pay him.

Dear dear Mr. Cayce:

Your kind letter of the 14th received and contents carefully noted, also booklet which I have read and find very interesting, and I believe that you can help me more than any one I know and will ask you to please give me a “Life Reading”, for I believe my whole trouble is not knowing myself.

I have been almost in every phase of the drug business for the last twenty-five years, up until the last year, when I went into the Life Insurance business, but there seems to be certain forces within me that are antagonistic, and which I have never been able to reconcile and I believe that if these forces could be harmonized with spiritual laws that I would be happier, more successful and could do more good in the world.

I do believe that God is Infinite Mind and that He created all that is good, and governs all that is real through Infinite Mind and that when we become spiritually minded enough to be attuned to these laws, that we can do anything that is good.
