This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of January, 1934, in accordance with request made by her mother - Mrs. [601], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [257].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. L. B. Cayce, Helene and Ernest W. Zentgraf.]
Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Mich. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we find the body has not as yet begun those suggestions that have been outlined as the better procedure for meeting the conditions that have been disturbing - and are disturbing - both the mental and physical forces of the body.
-
We would find it preferable that for at least three to four weeks there be the rest from the activities in the school work, for the better to aid the body in bringing recuperative forces. For, those disturbing forces that have been indicated are of such natures that, if there is allowed to arise too great an incoordination in the nerve forces of the body, these would be very harmful and very hard to cope with. For, inflammation that begins to attack the white fluid in the nerve channels themselves - is serious!
-
As for the periods that pain and profuse eliminations are experienced through the activities of the menstrual flow, these may be better aided by heat and proper manipulation with the body resting - than with the taking of properties that have a basic active principle in ergot to irritate further not only the membrane activity of the organs themselves but to produce such a great strain on the nervous system.
-
Then, we would refrain from a great deal of activity for at least four weeks, and apply the Radio-Active forces and the massage, and the surroundings and the diet that we have indicated. And, if this is done, and if there is used before the massage is made in the lumbar and sacral area - and the upper cervical or upper dorsal and cervical, as indicated - the application of heat from saturated solution of Epsom Salts, these will be most helpful - and relieving, and easy to make the proper adjustments for proper coordinations in the sacral and the lumbar area. And, as given, be sure these are made coordinatingly in treatments and adjustments. Ready for questions. We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/12/34 GD’s letter to [480]‘s mother, Mrs. [601]:
”…This reading seems to be entirely clear to me; however, some of it may not be to you. It seems that it is best for [480] to leave school and rest for at least four weeks during the first part of the treatment. I hope you have located a good osteopath, who will agree to consider the reading instructions and give the treatments as indicated. You will notice here the suggestion is made that for the menstrual pains the osteopath should be able to bring relief, by applying heat and then manipulation. Also the portions that need adjusting may be relaxed by Epsom Salts packs so that the adjusting may be easier. The treatments should be made COORDINATINGLY in the lower and upper part of the spine, as given. Of course, if the osteopath considers the reading diagnosis at all, he will understand this. It is most important, to bring about and to keep the proper coordination mentally and physically.
“I hope you will soon receive the Radio-Active Appliance, if you haven’t already, and can begin these treatments right away.
“Now, as to the diet, I will try to clarify it somewhat for you. As given, she should get up early and eat her breakfast as soon as possible after arising; which should consist of EITHER citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes or grapefruit) or fresh fruits (apples, pears, grapes, apricots, plums, etc.) or stewed fruits (peaches, apricots, prunes, rhubarb, etc.) or cereals of any type. But no two selections of either of these three should be taken at the same meal. The choice should be made from the three, and not combining any two. That is, do not take citrus fruits AND cereals, or fresh fruits and citrus fruits, etc.; either take one or the other type of breakfast. Of course, this is just as an outline; “and these few fruits are given under each list to indicate the type - there may be others which I do not remember at the moment which you may be able to obtain. Then a drink each morning consisting of the ones listed. A cereal drink would mean Ovaltine, or such.
“Green vegetables for lunch would mean raw vegetables fixed into a salad, including tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, celery, carrots and all such vegetables that may be eaten raw; mixed together, if desired, with a few half-cooked peas or beans, but mostly raw vegetables. You may not have tried raw spinach, but it is really delicious. Or, if fruits are preferable in the salad instead of vegetables (which may be the case on the days when the fruits have NOT been chosen for breakfast), then fix a salad from the fruits mentioned. I understand that tomato JUICE may precede the fruit salad also, if desired; while raw tomatoes would be included in the vegetable salad.
“Then the dinner in the evening would consist of well- balanced vegetables, well-cooked; two leafy or pod vegetables to one tuberous kind; that is, choose ONE vegetable grown under the ground (as potatoes, turnips, beets, carrots, parsnips, onions, and all such) and TWO grown above the ground (as peas, beans, spinach, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, turnip salad, and all such). See? That is, the proportion should be in that manner; two to one.
“If everything is not entirely clear, please let us know
- we are anxious to help in every way possible toward your receiving the very best results for your daughter.
“With kind regards and best wishes…”
R2. 1/14/34 Mother, [601]‘s letter:
”…I received your Check Reading late Saturday afternoon and thank you kindly for same. I also received the Radio-Active Appliance Saturday afternoon and gave [480] one treatment on receipt of same and began the beginning of two each day, this morning, and hope to follow your directions to the letter.
“I wish to thank Miss Davis for her clear explanations regarding the diet which I shall prepare and [480] is happy to help arrange.
“Upon receipt of the first reading [480-3] early Wednesday morning I motored to … to see [480] and also arrange with an osteopath about the treatment advised. A Dr. George E. Mickle gave [480] an osteopathic massage following the suggestions of the reading.
“I am happy you advised [480] to come home for three or four weeks as it is more advantageous to all concerned to carry on the treatments at home.
“[480] has an appointment with a Dr. Lloyd A. Seyfried, D.O., for Tuesday afternoon. He is considered a very good osteopath and highly recommended by one of [480]‘s instructors. She has her period since Thursday and wishes to wait until through. I will show him your reading and if he is willing to cooperate according to instructions will have him give [480] whatever treatments are recommended.
“[480] has been taking ‘Harrower’ #1 tablets for glandular stimulation; also 1/4 grain thyroid gland tablets, three times a day. Would you advise ceasing or continuing these medications?
“I greatly appreciate your interest and sincerely hope you will help to restore [480]‘s health. [480]‘s father [619] and I are happy to follow any suggestion and advice you can give and hope to be able to show our appreciation in the fullest measure…”
R3. 1/20/34 EC’s letter:
”…From the reading, it is my opinion that she should stop those tablets with the exception of the thyroid tablets…”
R4. 2/1/34 Mother, [601]‘s letter:
”…It is 3 weeks since [480] has begun taking the treatments recommended through your reading and am happy to say there is some improvement in her general health although the mental haziness still persists. She has been taking the osteopathic treatments each week and also using the Radio-Active Appliance every day. [480] is also taking the thyroid extract. I would appreciate if you would advise me what course to pursue at the end of 4 weeks treatment. She is very anxious to return to school for her 2nd semester which begins 2/13th. [480] hopes to graduate this June, if her health improves enough to permit her to continue…”
R5. 2/14/34 Mother, [601]‘s wire:
“[480] is at home…mental haziness still persists. Cannot go to school until this disappears. Should we continue with general osteopathic treatment? Is the breaking out of facial complexion due to glandular disturbance? Many thanks.”
