This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 17th day of May, 1928, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [4874].

1. EC: (Before locating the body, he said, “Very beautiful place.”)

2. Yes, we have the body here - this we have had before. Now, there are many changes in the physical forces of the body at present from that as we have had here before. The greater part and manner at present, we find, shows considerable improvement, and in many ways the body greatly improved. The changes as we find: In the throat, bronchials, lungs, there is little - under the present conditions - to be feared from the effect of tubercle infection, save as would come from the breaking down of the constitution or the vitality of the body, that would allow those elements that have been encircled to find sufficient strength to re-inhibit self.

3. In the digestive system the greater distresses, and the greater anxiety may be felt for self as respecting conditions there; for there has been created by outside influences on the mucus membranes of the intestines - especially in and about the glands wherein there is activity through the assimilation of foods, new blood for the body - that irritation that must be looked after very closely, and the preventing of this condition going into the system as a constitutional, or as a condition that would be constantly draining upon the body; for with inflammation finding lodgement throughout the colon there - with the already weakened element of the vitality of the body through tubercle infection and the condition of the blood through tubercle infection and the condition of the blood by and through same, the fear of re-infection or sepsis beginning or forming at some portion of the pockets of the colon proper, especially so in the upper or ascending and transverse portion of same. This, as we find, produced by taking some properties in the system that did not assimilate with the gastric juices of the digestion and brought about an acute condition. The condition has not been wholly eliminated, especially in the region as given - the glands here where assimilation takes place after the digestive action of juices from pancreas, liver, and the blood itself. This the greater condition to be feared. To be sure, there must be kept for the body, properties that will continue to act as an antiseptic for the lungs, throat, bronchials, and the constant building up of the blood supply; but no hog meat should EVER be taken by the body - not even hog liver!

4. In the adding, then, for existent conditions, first we would use as this: At least twice each day take from three to ten drops of Glyco-Thymoline as an antiseptic for the intestinal tract, preferably this would be taken in the early morning and just before retiring - see?

5. As the active force for the intestines, well that agar and oil, or that of Petrolagar (the neutral character, or red label) be taken - tablespoonful once each day, after or before the noon luncheon hour, see?

6. Use the inhalant for the lungs proper, bronchials, nose and throat - preferably this NOW would be prepared in THIS manner and proportion, see?

7. To eight (8) ounces pure grain alcohol, or at least ninety percent (90%) alcohol, add:

Eucalyptol…40 minims, Rectified Creosote…10 minims, Canadian Balsam…25 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…20 minims, Benzoin…20 minims, Tolu in solution…40 minims.

Keep solution (that is, the combined solution) is glass corked container at least twice the size of the quantity. This may be inhaled whenever necessary - at least three or four times a day, in bronchials, through the mouth, through the head also, through the nostril, see? three or four times each time - shaking solution - keeping well corked when not used. Do that.

8. In the diet - keep up those suggestions as has been given. Well that as much of olive oil and of codliver oil as is easily assimilated be taken. Be governed as to the quantity of each of these, as to how same [is] assimilated - for either of these is detrimental when not being assimilated by the system, for it acts as an irritant to the gastric and to the juices of the intestines and digestion, when not assimilated. Beef juices - as much wild game as may be obtained, or may be taken and assimilated by the body. Keep in the open as much as possible. Be well were the body - after the condition with the intestines is corrected - to gradually seek a lower altitude; not too quick - not too sudden - but keep out of doors and ROUGH it as much as possible. Ready for questions.

9. (Q) Are the pulse and temperature normal? (A) Near normal at present.

10. (Q) What is the status of my original trouble - lungs? (A) As given, most of these - in fact, ALL - no active tubercle IN ACTION at present. All capsuled and well sealed.

11. (Q) Why did the sweet milk and fresh pork upset me and cause pain? (A) As given - not acting with the gastric juices of the digestion.

12. (Q) Can I not get medicine from the drug store to relieve my stomach? (A) Relieve by removing the condition, see? That as the antiseptic given - nothing better, and the oil as will be assimilated by the system, and the intestines kept clear.

13. (Q) Could I not do better by living in the woods around turpentine stills and rosin, as for my lungs? (A) These are good, as given. These should be gradually changed to. Not too much at once.

14. (Q) From the condition of my lungs, how long will it take to get well in Denver? (A) The body is near ready to leave Denver, as soon as the condition in the intestines is corrected. This should take from three to five weeks.

15. (Q) Must I continue the diet I am on at present? (A) Follow the suggestions as have been given, and that which assimilates and agrees with the system - but do NOT use hog meat in any character or manner!

16. (Q) Are my teeth in the right condition? or will they affect my stomach? (A) Well that these be looked after, and we would use - after the corrections locally - that of Ipsab for the gums and the mouth.

17. (Q) What causes my right eye to blink or jerk when my stomach is paining me? (A) Through that reaction of the gastric and pneumogastric nerve. So that direct connection between hypogastric and pneumogastric with the nerves of the face and head. Hence we see the proper location from the trouble as has been given.

18. (Q) How long will it take my stomach to get in shape after I use your remedy or medicine? (A) Given.

19. That is all the questions.

We are enclosing the information as was gotten in the reading. We have also made a list of the various things suggested for your use in the reading. I don’t think you will have any trouble in getting the inhalant prepared. Should you find trouble, I’m sure we can get this prepared for you here, through our own physician, and send it to you by express. We can also supply the Ipsab as suggested for your month, teeth, gums, etc., though I understand your teeth need some local attention also.

We will be mighty glad to hear from you and to keep in touch with you. We assure you it is our desire to be of help if possible.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I received the reading and your enclosed letter few days ago which I am very proud of and thank you for same. I am getting along just fine. I have been taking the doctor’s medicine here for my stomach and it hasn’t pained me at all in about three weeks. However I showed the doctor and told him I wanted to change my medicine but he wouldn’t agree with me at all. I showed him the list of medicine you sent me, NOT THE READING. So I am doing well & don’t want to make a change as you know this climate is good for me and will stay on here until Oct. I want to get some where, where I can take all your treatment. You might write me if I shall take the Glyco-Thymoline in water & what proportion. Also shall I mix the Olive & Cod Liver Oil & in what proportion or take it separately.

R3. 6/5/28 EC’s letter to Mr. [4874]:- Very glad to have yours of the 29th, and to note that you are getting along so nicely.

The Glyco-Thymoline is taken a few drops in water, and is only an intestinal antiseptic and cannot be harmful with anything you are taking, and I’m sure you will find it good for that stomach trouble.

The olive oil and codliver oil is not to be mixed to-gether. These, you understand, were only for the intestinal and stomach trouble. Codliver oil, of course, is a builder - a general tonic. The olive oil is as much a food value for the intestines as a lubricant for same, but do not take sufficient quantity of the olive oil to become rancid in your system; that is, try it out with just a little bit at the time - half a teaspoonful maybe at first, gradually increasing it as you find that your system will assimilate it - just as you do the codliver oil.

Yes, I wish it were so that you could get the full suggestions just as given. Hope that will come along some day.

Dear Fellow Member:-

Our Board of Directors, desiring closer cooperation between itself and its members, desires to make known the progress that is being made by the Association. The latter, consisting at the present time of something slightly under two hundred members, has initiated not only an educational campaign but has employed Dr. Thomas B. House to work as research director in the scientific investigations that the Association is making. There will shortly be available to members not only a hospital in which psychic diagnoses will be scientifically administered to those seeking relief from ills in the hospital, but there will also be available bound volumes that contain much valuable information and data that has been compiled from an innumerable number of readings taken along philosophical, theological and other scientific lines.

To bring about a closer understanding between the Board and the Members, we submit to you the enclosed address given to the Board at our meeting August 4, 1928, by our President. [See 4905-70 Reports for talks made by MHB and Thos. B. Brown in opening meeting of ANI Board meeting on 8/4/28.]

I am in receipt of your letter and invitation to be present at the laying of the corner stone of the Cayce Hospital on Armistice Day and I want to thank you so much and in this connection wish to explain my regret at not being able to attend. Of course you understand why and I am happy to inform you that I am getting along fine. I want to stay here Mr. Cayce through this winter then I want to go to North Carolina about the middle of May and will visit you & have a consultation while I am there. Dear Mr. Cayce,

I wish to thank you kindly for the copy of the Dedication Ceremonies of the Cayce Hospital [See 4905-70 Reports and 254-45 Reports.] which reached me yesterday. I appreciated it very much. Mr. Cayce I am progressing fairly well glad to say but still anxious to take your treatment. I am thinking of going to North Carolina this summer and was wondering if I could take the treatment there if I could come to Virginia Beach. R7. 2/20/29 EC’s letter to [4874]:

My dear Mr. [4874]:-

We were certainly very glad to have yours of January 30th, and to know that you were getting along real nicely. Yes, I hope that when you get back this way that you will decide to come this way - and we will try to arrange it so you can get the treatments. There are plenty of cottages nearby where you will be able to get accommodations. We haven’t gotten our building fully equipped or furnished just yet. We are getting this in, of course, all the time - but it takes quite a little time to get such a place ready for running operations - although our friends haven’t waited for use to get open before they make requests for treatments. The Doctor’s quarters and treatment rooms were equipped first, and these - while not running at their regular rate and capacity - are being used right along. Our first patient came down on the 11th - a young man from Philadelphia. We are glad to say that he is well and on his way back home.

We appreciate your letting us hear from you from time to time. We hope and trust that we will be able to be of service to you and to a great many others. We appreciate your interest in our undertaking here.

My Dear Mr. Cayce,

I was indeed glad to get yours of the 20th of Feb. and to know that you have made such wonderful progress in the work that you are doing. Mr. Cayce I am enclosing the prescription you sent me. I had it filled here but they left out some of it and if you will please get it up & mail it to me. I have the glass cork container just put it in a small bottle that will hold it all and be sure to put the cork in tight & pack it good so it will not get broken, then I can put it in my big bottle here. Enclose your bill and I will send you a check immediately.

Replying to yours of the 3rd, I am turning over the prescription to Dr. Thos. B. House, Cayce Hospital, Virginia Beach, Va. I understand that they haven’t all these things arranged in their prescription room as yet. I don’t know whether he can arrange to have this filled at once or not, but I will ask that he communicate with you at once concerning this - so you will know just what will be done with same. You know it is our desire to be of assistance if possible - and as soon as we can get things running smoothly, we will be able to handle these things better than we have done in the past.

We are looking forward to seeing you this summer.

My Dear Mr. Cayce,

I should have written in acknowledgment of your Catalogue of the Hospital and also the book entitled Heaven on Earth [See 900-340, Reports], but have been looking over the town for a nice place in which to live as I have decided to leave the Hospital, so I am now at 1709 Williams Street, Denver.

Yes I was very much interested in both your catalogue and the book, Heaven on Earth. Both are fine pieces of work.

Got a letter from Mr. T. E. Harris in which he gave a wonderful description of the Hospital and surroundings.

I got a friend of mine who had a doctor friend in town to get the inhalant for me and have been using it about two months now and feel some stronger since I started with it and am going to keep it up. With kind wishes & regards I remain,

R11. 6/29/29 EC’s letter to Mr. [4874]:

Dear Mr. [4874]:-

Glad indeed to have yours of the 23rd, and to know that you are on the improve. I have no doubt but what, with the application of the inhalant, you will find strength and relief.

We have been looking forward with a great of pleasure to seeing you here this summer, or early fall. I think our good friend Mr. Harris would be glad to be with you when you come. I’m sure he would arrange to do that. We certainly enjoyed Mr. Harris’ visit, and he seemed to enjoy his little stay with us.

Things are progressing; of course, not fast, but we don’t want to grow too fast. Quite a number of people in the hospital, and ALL of them are getting wonderful results. Quite a number applying for information, which keeps us rather busy.

We are always glad to hear from you, and hope you will keep in touch with us. If you can arrange it, we would certainly like very much for you to come in and see us.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Am just writing to ask you about the alcohol inhalant I am taking.

My left lung (only one lung) is effected will the inhalant cause it to cure up and how long will it require to make a cure. Am using it right along and feeling very “well”. Trust you are enjoying good health, I remain, Sincerely, [4874] … Williams St., Denver, Colo.

Will the inhalant answer the same purpose as the brandy you recommended, you are sure it won’t injure my lung, [4874].

R13. 7/23/29 EC’s letter to Mr. [4874]:

Dear Mr. [4874]:-

Replying to yours of the 16th, it would be very hard for me to make any prediction as to just how long, or in fact just what will take place with the use of the inhalant - that is, unless I was to give a reading. Possibly you might be able to get this. Is that what you desire? Our experience has been, in most of these cases, brandy - rather than the alcohol - has been suggested, but it is the effects of this distillation that heals. This, as you know, is, in a manner, experimental with us - while we have had possibly a hundred cases where this inhalant, or such inhalants have been suggested for conditions of this nature, there are practically none that we have been able to check on as a hospital or a physician would, for the simple reason that we have not been in position to do this; so cannot give data as to just how it affects and how long it would take to effect a cure. That’s why we have built the institution, why we are trying to keep such close records, to know just what is done under the various circumstances and be able to answer questions of this kind.

I hope, Mr. [4874], you don’t get the idea that I’m trying to evade the question, but I’m just trying to get you to understand our position. We are mighty anxious to hear from you, to know just what your results are, and if it is possible for us to be of service in any way, that’s what we want to do.

”…Mr. [4874] reports feeling good and is much encouraged. Expects to get well in Elpaso. He wants to know as much as possible concerning that T.B. patient you spoke of as being treated at the hospital.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

You will be surprised to hear from me. Am getting along fine and living in El Paso, but am now having spleen trouble and wish you would tell me how to get relief. The spleen enlarges and causes my white blood count to go to 40 & 50,000. I take electrical treatment to get it down again. It causes the glands an leaders in my neck to get sore and stiff, and makes my head swim. Let me hear right away and tell me what to do and your charges.

R19. 2/8/37 EC’s letter to [4874]:

Dear Mr. [4874]:-

Was very happy to have yours of 2nd, surprised yes, and no, for had been reminded of you for several days before your letter came. Glad you are getting on pretty good sorry tho you are having trouble with the spleen. Hope we may offer some suggestions that may be of help. We are making the appointment for the afternoon of the 16th, 3:30 to 4:30 E.S.T. As you know is best that you let us know just where you will be at that hour, and for you to remain quiet, and in a prayerful frame of mind, as to changes all contribute according to their means, 10.00 is the set amount for check readings, but all according to their means.

Be sure and let us know if time is OK and just where you will be at time and your have C.S.T. I believe in El Paso, do you not. So keep the time according to E.S.T. would make it in your place 2:30 to 3:30 but let us hear for we do not keep it unless agreeable to you, and if in room give number please or house the location.

Yes, miss our good friend Mr. Harris, and have been surprised that have not heard from him over there. Don’t think I am luny, but know it is possible if it is best, which not strictly a spiritualist, do know there is communication, have had the experience.

Dear Mr. Cayce

I am in receipt of your kind letter and thank you for same. I am doing very well with the electrical treatment. However I want to try it out a while and if I don’t get permanent relief you will hear from me again.

These Electric treatments have reduced my trouble at least 75 percent. I will be writing you from time to time.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I am back in Selma again. My Doctor in El Paso said I was well of T.B. but am still suffering from the white blood condition I wrote you about. Electric treatment reduces the blood count but it goes back up to 40000 in four or five weeks and the glands in my neck seems to be affected. If there is anything that can be done I will appreciate it. I want permanent relief and will thank you to tell me something I can do. With kind regards. R23. 9/1/37 EC’s letter to [4874]:

Dear Mr. [4874]:-

Glad to have yours of 28th, and to know you are feeling well enough to be back at home again, hope the Dr is right and all traces of the T.B. have disappeared, and will stay put.

About the other condition, hope we may be able to offer some suggestion that will hope. The first open time we have is the morning of the 9th 10:30 to 11:30 E.S.T. that will be 9:30 to 10:30 your time. Let me know if that time will be all OK, and think would be well for you to make a list of questions, to ask about the condition. Hope the time is all OK with you, and that we may be of a real help.

Dear Mr. Cayce

I thank you for your letter of the first of September. I won’t be in Selma on the 9th of Sept. as I am leaving to day for B’ham to visit friends. Mr. Cayce when I get settled again I will take the matter up with you. I am controlling the trouble with Electrical treatments but am not getting permanent relief and am not satisfied. With all good wishes.
