EC: Yes, we have the body here. We have had this before. Rather serious conditions have arisen in this body; these caused more from the atmosphere and the reactions in the system from those properties that have been taken into the system, and with the application of the vibration, and with the vibrations becoming congested has made the reaction to the locomotories and lymphatic circulation more tense.
-
Rest, heat, more vibration, with the massage over the body will be the best to give to this body at the present time. Electric blanket would be good for it to keep it wrapped in.
-
Give plenty of water into the system, so we will have a reaction to the emunctories and something to be acted upon. Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Where can the electric blanket be obtained? (A) Here.
-
(Q) What is the form of this electric blanket? (A) Use it as already formed - to the vibrations of the body.
-
(Q) Shall she continue taking the medicine that has been prescribed before? (A) Take the gold, yes.
Be well to keep the intestinal tract so that it will assimilate - that is, keep it clean. Do that through natural means, as the body is inert, rather than through medicinal properties taken to incite the gastric juices of the system.
-
(Q) What natural means are to be used? (A) By the diet, and the enemas and vibration, rather than medicine, which would overtax portions.
-
Do as we have outlined.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/6/23 Mrs. Cooney’s letter: “I went to see Mrs. [4893] Thursday. She told me to tell you she was getting ‘better and better’ every day. The swelling in right knee has gone and the left is better. She can walk about, and is doing her own housework. Her hands are so much better, arms and elbows are straightening out. A wonderful change in her whole body since she has been doing as you told her to do in the reading you gave her. Her husband is now bragging about what you have done for her. They have told his people and they will get you to read for several of them soon as they can arrange it. In about a month or so […] [her husband] will have her pictures and testimonial in any paper you wish. People who see her now and knew her as she was are astounded at the change…”
R2. 9/7/27 [4893]‘s letter: “I received your letter and filled out the card as best I could or knew how, and am mailing them to you. Mr. […] and Mrs. Cooney came to see me a few weeks ago and they decided maybe I didn’t take your medicine you prescribed for me in 1922 long enough, and said they were going to write you and ask you if you wouldn’t give me another reading - that they believed you could help me and if you couldn’t it wouldn’t cost me anything. I have thought SO often of you and Mr. and Mrs. Mohr and wanted to know how you all were. I thought Mr. and Mrs. Mohr were such a nice couple. Well, Mr. Cayce, I don’t look like I did when you saw me; I’ve lost my flesh and am confined to a wheel chair all the time, can’t stand on my feet at all neither can I feed myself. I have two or three fingers on the right hand I manage to write some with. I’ve tried so many doctors and various rheumatism treatments, but got no results. I’ve spent all my husband has made in the last six years trying to get my health back, but it seems impossible to do that, and I have about decided to sit here the rest of my days on earth and make the best of it I can. I sincerely hope you are getting along well and doing lots of good…”
R3. 9/13/27 EC gave her 4893-3.
R4. 1/20/58 GD’s memo: On 12/26/57 General Electric Co. answered our inquiry re date electric blankets were put on market: ”…The first General Electric Automatic Blankets were sold commercially around the year 1936, and not quite as far back as the 1922 date mentioned in your letter, and you might be interested in knowing that the General Electric Company did pioneer this product…”
R5. 5/4/79 Horton W. Amidon’s letter to GD [Background note by GD: A few days ago Horton was telling me his interpretation of this 4893-2 quote and I asked him to write it out for me to use as a Supplement, also to suggest a subject under which to index it so we would find it again.]:
Dear Gladys, The enclosed interpretive comment might be inserted as a supplement to the 4893-2 reading.
I am sorry to say that I don’t know how it should be indexed in the card catalogue. I don’t understand the indexing system. In trying to use that card catalogue, I have been frustrated about half of the time.
I would be inclined to put this item under the heading of precognition. On looking up precognition, I found three cross reference cards to other sections of the catalogue one to psychic development, one to death, and one to psychic experiences. I spent about fifteen minutes going through part of the cards in those sections. Frustrated again, I concluded that the average person who might be trying to find something on precognition would give up sooner than I would.
Incidentally I have found the “Index of Reading” by J.M.M, on the blue sheet preceding each reading to be very helpful. I suspect that there might be a relationship between the blue sheets and the card catalogue, but I am not sure. There are too many cards in the card catalogue. The drawers are often so tightly packed that they are hard to use. Probably over a half of those cards are unnecessary. For example, under Bible:John 2 there are 65 cards each referring to an individual reading number. Two cards with reading numbers in numerical order, double spaced in three columns would do the job and the seeker would be able to find any reading he wanted with greater ease. In this way some cards that are more useful could be included in the existing filing space.
It seems that I recall someone saying that Gail wanted suggestions for improving the indexing system. If so, please pass this memo along to her.
[GD’s note: Subsequently I suggested to Horton Amidon that he meet with Charles H. Sinex who has been working with us in the E.C.F. on a proposed Index System. He did so. Today, 2/15/80 Charles H. Sinex, via my request, has written the Proposed Index System which I am adding as a Supplement under 254-55. It was the reading that told us how to do the indexing - under which we have worked so far. See previous Supplements under it, including the Remington Rand System which we initiated 1/60 - 9/71.]
Have a good summer and God bless you!

R6. 5/4/79 Horton W. Amidon’s interpretive comments on 4893-2:
HOW LONG IS NOW?
By Horton W. Amidon On December 28, 1922 a second reading was given to a fifty year old woman who was afflicted with arthritis. From the section giving treatments, the following extract is taken: ”… Electric blanket would be good for it (the body) to keep it wrapped in.”
No one present had ever heard of an electric blanket so the entranced Edgar Cayce was asked:
“(Q) Where can the electric blanket be obtained? (A) Here.
(Q) What is the form of the electric blanket? (A) Use it as already formed - to the vibrations to the body.”
This caused wonderment, especially when no electric blanket could be found. Had the unconscious mind of Edgar Cayce goofed?
Following this reading (4893-2) a memo was inserted by Gladys Davis Turner on January 20, 1958. We quote: “On 12/26/57 General Electric Company answered our inquiry re date electric blankets were put on market: ”…The first General Electric Automatic Blankets were sold commercially around the year 1936, and not quite as far back as the 1922 date mentioned in your letter, and you might be interested in knowing that the General Electric Company did pioneer this product…” We repeat the question, Had Edgar Cayce goofed? This is a natural question for the conscious mind to raise since it is difficult to think in terms of the way the unconscious mind functions. To give an analogy - some years ago a father went into the bathroom one night and on turning on the light discovered his blind son, who was thirty, shaving with a straight razor. “Hey!” he exclaimed, “do you want to cut your blooming head off?”
In this incident where the unconscious mind of Edgar Cayce was giving information, we have a beautiful illustration of at least one aspect of the working of the unconscious mind. The people around Edgar Cayce were well aware of the fact that his unconscious mind had a wider perception of things that were happening in space than did their conscious minds. Also, that his unconscious mind could perceive all that was going on within the person for whom he was giving a reading was an evidence of another kind of expanded awareness. But that the unconscious mind has greater awareness time-wise than conscious minds was perhaps not so readily understood. Who knew in 1922 that an electric blanket would be invented and on the market in a few years? To the unconscious mind with its greater range of perceptiveness in time, a few years in the future like a few years in the past is looked upon as the here and now. This understanding of the functioning of the unconscious mind clears up to a degree the mystery of precognition.
R7. 3/7/80 Dr. Herbert B. Puryear’s note to GD: Could it be that the Answer “HERE” meant that he could have given instructions for the design and INVENTION of the electric blanket if that line of questions had been pursued?
R8. 3/7/80 GD’s answer: I’m sure that is absolutely correct!
