This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office at 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 13th day of December, 1924, in accordance with request made by M. B. Wyrick.

Time of Reading Bosque County, 3:00 P. M. Dayton Time. Texas.

1. GC: Now you have before you the well that is being drilled on the land of Madison Byron Wyrick, in Bosque County, Texas, and the conditions regarding the operation. You will tell us what is necessary to make a success of these operations, giving the formation in which they are now drilling, and what they will encounter in formation to production. Please give all of this full and complete.

2. EC: Yes, we have the operations and the well. We have had these here before. First, we find it will only be necessary to continue the operations they encounter the production as will be found as given. We must, for the success of the operations, keep full-hearted co-operation of all those interested in the operation and without dissension as to how operations should be continued.

3. Formation as encountered at present time shows the presence of shale, gray and brown and a lime with water, sands. These need not be of a detrimental character, for we find that the formation in the last 40 feet have changed very rapidly. This, as we see, in different as would be encountered from drilling in the present location and that as was given. However, we will find that with perseverance and care with tools, the operation in this location can be carried to success. Drilling with a tight line, short stroke, will prevent a great deal of the troubles now encountered by caving. The formations that will be encountered will be soon the change to a darker sand and lime with a gradual change again to dark gray cuttings, which will come to the very hard formation again. And then darker and brown, changing again to the black, and then encountering the formation in which oil would be found. Will not be necessary if bailing is kept close and not too much water to carry in the hole for other casings until the production has come in.

4. This we find if followed in this manner would insure success and production. Be careful of the nipple or thimble on drill. Be careful of knot on baling bucket. Also of the chain drive on the sand line wheel; that there is not accidents to operators from this. Follow close in the instructions given. Do not be weary in troubles from water at present and of the caving in the shale. Slow yet sure if kept in the right way. We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Wyrick:-

Enclosing you the reading as gotten this afternoon. It is needless for me to say that I am sorry to know that you are having trouble with the operations. But I am certainly in hopes that everything yet will work out all right. I only wish you could be present, that you might question the reading more thoroughly, and perhaps get a better understanding of it. Should it be necessary to have another one, could you not arrange to do this? We would have it whenever it suited you.

Be sure and let me hear from you from time to time. Am glad to say that I am feeling a great deal better myself physically, and I am in hopes that everything is going well with you.

R2. 12/16/24 EC’s letter to Mr. Wyrick: “I notice among the papers this morning, one of the readings gotten on the well on the 9th [4905-9]. I was sure that this had been sent you, but it seems we have the copy here. As you will see, this was written by the stenographer we used while Miss Davis was away, and it is not as well gotten as those that Miss Davis writes. If you already have this, why alright. If not, it will be very interesting with the last we got on Saturday. I’m very anxious about this and want you to let me hear what they’ve decided to do as soon as you can.

“I’m glad to say that Miss Davis is back with us and I am feeling almost myself again, and all we need now is more work.

“Let me hear from you when possible, as you know we’re always anxious to hear.

“Nothing new going on.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I feel very thankful to you for your readings and letters for the past few weeks. I had received a copy of the reading of the 9th [4905-9] by wire.

I would like very much to see you and to be there when you give a reading on the well that I might ask questions as you suggested, but for the present I will be unable to go to Dayton for we now have one of the worst ice storms that I have ever experienced in this section and we will be very busy several days in restoring even a temporary service.

Now I am very much concerned about the well. More especially so after the encouragement we received in a number of the readings. In the readings you have been very accurate in naming depth at which we were drilling and naming various things to be cared for to insure safety in operation, especially the casing off of the water which was mentioned in three or four readings before we set the last casing and the statement in another reading that all that was necessary to do is to bale out and drill in slowly. At this time the drillers did not know whether the casing as was set would shut off the water or not but on the strength of the reading went to baling and found the water was shut off. Another time you mentioned safety of the calf wheel. At the time the reading was given we ordered material and rebuilt the wheel as directed. Other readings gave us information regarding the condition of drilling, cable and sand line. In several readings you gave information regarding necessary harmony and cooperation in the organization. We have had more or less dissension which has made necessary changing men several times. At last we seem to have a crew that is working harmoniously and all with a feeling that they will soon have a good well.

One thing that we have not been able to determine correctly so far in the readings is the depth in feet to the producing strata. Various depths have been given and also log of the formation. The formation log seems to check fairly well but it runs out and repeats time after time of shale varying in color from light to black, sand and lime in the same manner. We have now reached a depth of 3930’ starting again in black lime.

For the present we are shut down on account of the cold weather, but I don’t think this will last many days and we want to go ahead and drill to production if possible.

Now if you don’t mind I would like if you would give me another reading Monday and try to develop something definite regarding the depth we will have to go from our present depth location to production.

The volume of production that we may expect.

What the value of this field may be as compared in percentage increase on cost of discovery well.

Approximately how long it will take to drill to production.

An accurate log of formation from present depth to production and if we may expect any unusual conditions or hazards to overcome before reaching production.

Our contractor with the well is very much interested in the information you give us and is following instructions closely regarding inspection, repairs of equipment and manner of operation. In fact we are doing everything just as nearly as possible in accord with the information given in the reading.

I am very much interested in this project and the readings on same and am keeping a close check so that if we get production we will be able to show a continuous line of information from the subconscious guiding us in the operation from beginning to conclusion. If you will send the reading Monday special delivery I shall be able to have it here Tuesday morning which is very desirable.
