This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 18th day of April, 1925, in accordance with request made by Mr. M. B. Wyrick.

Time of Reading 12:35 Noon - Dayton Time. Bosque County, Texas.

1. GC: Now you have before you the well that is being drilled on the land of Madison Byron Wyrick in Bosque County, Texas. You will please tell us the conditions surrounding these operations at the present time, the depth to which they have drilled, the formations now being encountered and how they may now proceed to make this an oil producing well. You will also answer any questions I may ask you regarding these operations.

2. EC: Now, we find the operations at the present time just overcoming some difficulties which have been experienced in the last few days, and the depth to which they have drilled is now forty-nine hundred and seventy-four (4974) feet. The formation still remains in that of the black lime, and in the lower portions of the stratum here we find they are within the producing area, and that at any time they will encounter the condition which will make this an oil producing well, for the production is now on two sides of the hole already drilled. They will encounter this in the next few days, and we find there is only the necessity of drilling on into that strata that allows the pressure to break through into the hole as made. This may be encountered at any time. There are many places in present hole where this could be made producing well. Best that same be drilled into the production as being drilled. The conditions surrounding operations, the personnel, and the condition of the operators are still optimistic and really in better conditions at present than they have been for some time. Keep on keeping on.

3. (Q) How many more feet will they have to go or drill before reaching a strata that would produce the well? (A) In the present stratum we may find the producing well. In the depth that the operations have now reached we may find at any time a producing well, for as given, production is on two sides at present. The depth may be greater or lesser, depending upon the operations and the shifting of pressure as loosened by the operations. Of necessity operations are slow at the depth now being encountered.

4. (Q) Should they continue to drill deeper? (A) As given. They should.

5. (Q) Are there any other suggestions regarding these operations? (A) No other suggestions. We find success will come to these, will they but keep the hole open and drilling in same.

6. We are through for the present.

R1. 4/18/25 EC’s letter to Mr. Wyrick:

My dear Mr. Wyrick:-

I was very much in hopes that before we ever got to this that we would have had a wire from you that the well was already in. If this be correct, we’ve been having some little difficulties at the well in the last few days. I hope, however, that they will overcome these and that soon they’ll be following up this precious fluid and get it coming above ground.

Be sure and let me hear from you in regards your personal condition, as we all feel, as you know, anxious about how you get along yourself, and any time there is any information that you can pass along as regarding the well, we’ll be mighty glad to have it.

We have been extra busy this week but I certainly hope that we’ll get your two readings for you next week. Certainly beg your pardon for having to delay this. Hope it won’t prove any inconvenience.

My dear Mr. Cayce:-

I have yours of the 18th with copy of reading given at 12:35 P.M. same date. Please note the message from Martin sent at 1:05 P.M. the 18th. This is the first and only information we had of any recent difficulties. You seem to be checking them pretty close.

Also the statement regarding conditions of operation and optimism of operators. This has been considerable better since the State Geologist gave a report on the cuttings from the well in which he said we should find production. Probably two sands producing oil. They think they have pick up and are now drilling in the bend series.

Will keep you advised.

R4. 4/19/25 G. C. Martin’s letter to Mr. Wyrick:

Dear Mr. Wyrick:

I got yours with the check and paid up to the 15th. Had about half of it left. Had to buy the piece of drilling line for $200.00 and pay the truck for the trip.

We had about 700 feet of pretty good line at the side of the bull wheels or just outside that had been saved when we got the Rhome line, but Gene in cleaning up around while I was in Austin dragged it off and kinked it in such manner we could not use it. The sand in the open hole cuts the line out very quickly, and Pat says a bad fishing job with a lot of line on the tools might cause us to lose the hole.

We have the new line on the ground and ready to go tomorrow. There is only about seven days more fuel oil left.

We are now 4955 feet and still in sand and lime, still looks good for a well.

I am depending more on Cayce’s saying we are sure to succeed, and the State Geologist told me that we were more likely to get the pay in the bend than any other place, and that it is not likely that we will finish it under 5300 to 5400 feet in this location so there you are.

The sand line had about 5100 feet in it and is a dandy line. There is another salt strata that makes the slush pit white as it dries. No salt water. So it may be from higher up in the hole that a little gets to the bottom.

Wish you would get another reading from Cayce and see what it says about the salt.

By the way the sand line got away from the drum end that lost the line and bailor on the well. So checking up on it and everything else is as it has been given. I feel sure of the well, by “keep on keeping on drilling” we have lost five days this mo. which will cut expenses a little but it does the hole no good to stand open it will not cave so bad if we could keep going.

It has not rained any on your ranch since you were here. Some showers between here and there but its so dry the grain and corn is drying up.

I got the medicine and have it made up but on account of this awful bad dry weather and wind the skin trouble is no better otherwise feel fine. I would be glad to pay for the bill, but have not found out how much it is. I asked George LaBryn to let me know and he did not. However, I wish to thank you for it, and your many other favors.

I have heard no more from Samberson’s bunch except that a complaint has been sent in to the Ry. Com. Dept. by Samberson, and the Eastland man was out to see us, but as he found that we had complied with the law and as Pat had secured 42 permits and plugged the 42 wells, they were perfectly satisfied and said he hoped to have us report a gusher real soon, and that the sands look that we may have it soon. All he required is that we send a log of this well soon as it is completed. Nothing from Scurlock either. I will keep the Oil well letter as it is clear that they do not look for anything from us whatever.

Say there is a lot of good water running away from the well, and everything going up on account of the dry weather.

Glad you found the Brown agreement for it is a good thing for us to hold to if they should start anything but hardly think they will.

This is the latest - it’s encouraging and I feel we will soon have a big well. I am guessing it will go 25,000 [barrels] or more - might give us another reading this week if you have time. Will keep you advised.

Dear Mr. Wyrick:

The drillers are all of one accord and that is they are going to get the production in the formation we are now in and too it may come any time.

They may have to go quite a bit yet up they feel sure of it.

We have pass quite a good many places that looked very much like it would have made a well, but it just did not flow.

The temper screw break was in the end. It was an old break as is shown. This may be what some of the readings were telling us about but we were not thoughtful enough to take it apart and look at it. That is a fulfillment of all except the production and it’s next - see.
