This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 2nd day of May, 1925, in accordance with request made by Mr. M. B. Wyrick.

Time of Reading 11:00 A. M. Dayton Time. Bosque County, Texas.

1. GC: You will give us the conditions of operations at the present time, with any suggestions for the operators to assist in bringing in this well. You will answer any questions relative to this that I will ask you.

2. EC: Very near to drilling in production now. They are near to the break that will come in lime and sand, which may break through to the production, they have been drilling past and in for some time. You see they are encountering at present time in the drilling those same formations as we first entered into when we entered that of the bed formation. These we find are showing of the true Pennsylvania stratum. When we strike this that will come with this, not salt, more chalk, then we may expect this production to break through this formation. Keep on drilling. We find about the operations all are very enthusiastic regarding the new changes that are being found at the present time, and some of these are new to some of the operators. There is some discussion as to about the character of this formation.

3. (Q) What is the character of this formation? (A) Changing to this white. We have just given.

4. (Q) How far will they have to drill in this formation? (A) Depends upon the shift of the gases in that storehouse. As we see, we find some gases in the wetter formations higher above. This is exceedingly dry and porous. 4996.

5. (Q) Is that the depth they have drilled? (A) 4996 - this we should get production here.

6. (Q) Are there any conditions about which the operators should be warned? (A) Only those where we find the cavings give trouble at times, these needs be expected for keeping so much hole open as is necessary in this, for we may find with the pressure breaking in may bring in in many places through which they have already passed. In this case we would have a very large well, on increase, but necessary to clean thoroughly. Be careful of getting tools hung with these caves caving above, you see, where they are drilling. Short stroke, not too rapid.

7. (Q) About what time can production be expected? (A) Most any time. More apt to be in the early morning hours when the tide comes in, you see, or when the tide changes from one to two afternoon or evening.

8. (Q) Any other suggestions for the success of these operations? (A) No. These will be successful here. Just keep that which they are doing, keeping everything in shape, overcoming those obstacles that we have. Though slow it’s sure, for we have the wherewith to carry out the operations. Only needs the patience and the persistence as necessary. This will be successful - 1500 to 1.

9. (Q) Are there any specific directions as to how to prevent the tools from being hung by these cave-ins? (A) Given. Short strokes, not too fast.

10. We are through for the present.

My dear Mr. Wyrick:-

I certainly thank you for yours of the 29th and the information from Mr. Martin certainly does seem encouraging, and seemingly from the reading we got this morning, it still insists that this will be a success and that we might expect it at any time. I certainly hope it works out alright.

I’m in hopes that you’re feeling alright and are getting along fine. I know you are anxious to be in shape to go down to the well as soon as they have the first showing. We will have another reading or two to send you sometime in the near future of the Life Readings, which we think are quite interesting, as soon as Miss Gladys has the opportunity to write them off.

R2. 5/2/25 G. C. Martin’s letter to M. B. Wyrick:

Dear Mr. Wyrick:

Had another fishing job of the sand line and bailer, Tom got it, and also got the crown sheet on his time, so I was very mad - he asked for a new sand line but I stayed until he run it two or three times and got it in very good shape. So saved that much. He seemed to be very sorry about it so I told him if it happens again I would pay off - see - they have up fire and are going it’s now 5:30 p.m. Think they may go on good. Say that reading of the 27th beats all of them.

He told as good as any of the men on the job after they got it done.

I am sure of a big well if we can only keep going. I will admit I had lost courage for the fact I am using so much money, that I just did not have the face to ask for it and if you had not sent it in I might have been shut down. One thing the stuff is worn from the long hard use we have given it and its deep and the rig had to have a lot of extra work so in all it just took it. I feel better now and am trying to keep down expense. Surely within the next short time we will get a big one.

I have the bailer maker to take back so will have to go. I got yours this a.m. hope you get better in the new treatment. Kindest regards from the folks.

Dear Mr. Wyrick:

I got your message upon my return from the well today.

The reading to follow -

Yes we broke through yesterday into a covey formation and at 9 P.M. we strung in to be sure of the depth it measured 5022 and 15 feet had been made in the soft as covey formation. The bailer would not pick up a sample we put up the sand pump and it would not get a sample, you see the cavings had fallen in on the slush so of course could not get the sample we did not know what it was but knew it was not salt for I tasted it. That being the case I did not report, but was waiting to see it was shale. What the State Geologist said we may look for on top of the lower Penn. formation or what is known to be the lower Bend.

I told both drillers to be careful that they keep a tight line and if it starts getting stuck to come right out. So far the caving has not been bad, but soon as the whole stem gets below it may stick.

When we hit the caving stuff I was wishing that I might hear from Dayton, for it had us a guessing so I shall be glad to see it.

In the reading 4/27 -

We had some salt, but were not sure where it came from so that cleared it to me.

If we do not get the production you will have to send flowers for my grave. I surely think we will get it soon.

The bailer is holding good since it was fixed.

My dear Cayce:

I received the well reading [4905-22] given last Saturday, got it Sunday made copy and sent on to Martin. It’s good. Enclosed letter from Martin rec’d today. Note mention of the previous reading [4905-21]. They burned crown - shut [off] bailer Sat. or Friday night. Had it fixed and were running Sat. night - today the report drilling at 5060 formation. Just changed shale to black lime. They were in gray lime Saturday just as given in reading and at 5007 - picked up a soft caving formation some signs of gas by smell.

We sure must get it soon…

If you do not get report by Saturday that the well is in, please give another reading so we can keep check on everything.

We have not got the oil yet but all indications are good. See messages and Martin’s letter of Monday enclosed. Can you beat it. I wired him Monday morning for a report and advised that the reading was in the mail. Note what he says about entering Penn formation. Also the discussion as to character of formation they were in - just as mentioned in the reading. Please give me a reading Saturday and mail it to me special delivery at Hospital as before then I will get it Sunday morning. Well maybe in before then but…
