This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at Phillips Hotel, Room 115, Dayton, Ohio, this 2nd day of January, 1924, in accordance with request made by Mr. [4906].

Time of Reading 3 1/2 miles Northwest of 12:00 Noon. Maud, Oklahoma.

1. LS: You will give a reading on location of oil well in Section twenty-four, Township eight, North Range Four East, three and one half miles Northwest of the Town of Maud, Oklahoma.

2. EC: We have these lands here. Part of these we have had before; that in the Southeast half of the Southeast quarter in Section twenty-four. [No record of earlier reading. GD.]

3. We find there have been some changes in conditions relative to these lands in titles, and also in the physical conditions on surface relative to operations and of developments relative to production of oil.

4. As to the quantity of production to be found in this section and district, we find there is considerable oil, yet water troubles destroyed some of the usefulness of the adjoining lands; yet not detrimental at present to those in question. In the Northeast quarter of Northeast quarter would be the better for production, and we would find more than one oil producing sand. While the second sand is pinched low in this district or specific quarter, yet would be sufficient quantities to be a paying proposition. Do not carry too much water in hole when approaching the one thousand three hundred fifty (1350) to one thousand six hundred (1600) depths. Between these we will find several shows, and may expect, with conditions in adjoining territory, troubles from water of the brackish or salt formations hindering, yet this sand will produce as well as the nineteen to twenty-three. While in the overlap, as is shown by surface indications of well, the turf makes the bend or rolling formation, and the hill formed by a wash from surface lands has shown the out-croppings of the cretaceous formations.

5. Good property. If handled correctly will bring production, be productive financially. Gas sufficient, and of sufficient gravity oil to be of the correct balance for both gas and oil production.

Dear Mr. [4906]:-

Enclosed find copy of reading, as per your request by wire this morning. This caught me at a time when I was not feeling good at all. Hope there is sufficient here, however, to be of real value to you, and that my wire was not out of place. However, you will notice this does not take, or give, the specific location as was asked other than the best for the property. This will be very well for you to check, as also something relative to titles.

I am in hopes you have the other reading [254-3] before this time. It was delayed, as it was impossible for me to get it off sooner than I did, on account of other matters that were pressing me at the time.

After you have read the other reading, and have checked on this one, please let me hear from you at once. You will understand that in giving these readings there may be times when other engagements will interfere with these readings, so it will be necessary for us to outline a program for this work, so that we will not have this kind of interference. We have not begun our regular work for the year, and already have a week or ten days booking in advance, so when we come to a decision about this let’s get this outlined in a manner so we will have as little interference as possible.

My Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I am in receipt of your letter and reading in regard to it being right for you to pass on the properties for me, and also your letter and reading relative to the outcome and possibilities of finding oil in Section 24-8-4, I certainly am very much pleased with the contents of these two readings and I certainly appreciate and enjoyed immensely your two letters accompanying same.

Now Mr. Cayce, I know you are somewhat disappointed at my seeming delay in forwarding you the contracts for your interest which I promised to do at once, but on receiving your wire telling me to accept the properties in 24-8-4, I plunged into the deal, which was a long, drawn out affair, and we could not come to an agreement until noon on the 4th of January, and the well had to be actually drilling by January 8, at midnight, so when we did reach an agreement, I certainly had to hurry to get all the equipment moved forty two miles and rigged up and ready to go before midnight, of the eighth, consequently I disappeared from my office and home and business on the Fourth of January and did not show up in Okmulgee any more until noon on the Ninth, and I was sure tired and sleepy, but nevertheless, I had this to do, and the well was actually drilling at 5:30 P.M. on the afternoon of January the eighth and the leases were saved for the company men. The farmers all wanting to take their leases down in event the well was not actually drilling on or before the eighth of January.

Now, on this proposition, I have not signed a contract yet with the men that are handling the leases for it was a hurried up proposition and a very hard country to drill a well in, and besides this, they insist upon the contract being signed for a depth of 3750 feet, but I refused to sign this contract because, upon questioning them very closely, I find out, just as you said, there are some irregularities as to the title on the land on which this well is located and also on the adjoining leases in the way of a blanket mortgage held by a loan company, which at any time might be foreclosed, so I made the men handling it pay me 1,000.00 cash in hand to move the tools from two miles north of Holdenville onto the location northwest of Maud and string them up and have them running in the hole by the Eighth in order to save the leases, and I have a gentlemen's agreement with them to investigate the other wells in that community finding out how much underreaming and what length of time it has required to drill the wells, and when this is done, we are to try to come to an agreement as to what this well will cost them and also what interest I am to have in the eighty acres on which the well is drilled. In the event that we cannot agree, I am to move my tools off the location, and they lose the 1,000.00. In the contract that I had outlined with them before getting your answer by wire, I was to receive a one-eighth interest in the eighty acre tract and $17,100.00 in money, but I became suspicious of that they were not telling me the correct dope regarding the cost of nearby wells, so did not sign the contract after receiving your wire. I am enclosing a copy of the old and unsigned contract for your inspection. I am glad of this information you sent me, because I would have certainly taken this well too cheap according to what I found out after being on the grounds. When we do reach an agreement, I will assure you that it will be for a larger interest and more money, and just as soon as I get the new contract signed, I will mail you a copy of it and also an assignment for your interest in same according to the outcome of our agreement. The reason we are waiting now is that the men that are handling this proposition, are nice enough fellows alright, but have no money, and they are entirely depending upon the larger companies purchasing the acreage from them in order to secure me for my work. In this immediate country, it takes thousands and thousands of dollars to complete a well that deep.

Now Mr. Cayce, I have prepared a contract between you and myself as nearly as I understand it, and I am enclosing same to you in duplicate. Please sign both of them and also have a witness sign with you, that is if they meet with your approval. If so, keep the original and mail me back the signed carbon copy. If they do not meet with your approval, please return them to me, accompanied by a letter explaining just what correction you wish made.

Now Mr. Cayce, I mentioned two other propositions that I had accepted. One of these propositions fell down - the one in 25-12-10, but the one in 7-14-14 I have all material on the ground and the men are rigging up, and we will start spudding Monday morning. Now this proposition was closed before our reaching an agreement, and I will have to drill regardless of your prediction, but nevertheless, I want your reading on this property, and I am willing to carry you for your proportional part in it. I have a 9/16 interest in the eighty on which I am drilling and in lieu of the money consideration on this job, I accepted the eighty acre south offset and the east twenty acre offset and the diagonal offset to the southeast, being a twenty acre tract. Now you understand I will sell the two twenty acre tracts and the eighty acre tract and use the money in paying the bills on this hole, leaving me a 9/16 interest. Now, please give me a reading on this property, and on the receipt of your reading, I will mail you an assignment to your interest in the eighty on which I am drilling, regardless of what the reading may say. Now, the location of this well is in the SE corner location in the N1/2 of the SE1/4 of Section 7-14-14, directly north of the town of Morris, Oklahoma, and on the left hand side of the paved road. Now I have two other wells that I am going to drill. One is along the East line of the SE/4 of Section 18-20-12 in the Osage Nation. There is supposed to be a nice structure in the SW1/4 of Section 17-20-12 and I understand that the Wilcox sand produces a little west of the high on these surface structures. If this is so, please let me know the particulars as regards this property. The other location is SE of the town of Wetumka, in Hughes County, Oklahoma. I do not have the correct description of this lease at hand, but will let you know later.

Please let me know your opinion of these two properties as soon as you possibly can. I note carefully what you said in regard to letting our readings interfere with your work and I heartily agree with you on this subject that it should not, but when you have the opportunity to find out this information, please send it to me at once, and I will always enclose you a copy of my contracts, showing my equity in each deal and also your assignment for your interest. I believe this is all just at present. Hoping that I might hear from you in the very near future, and trusting that you may find the contracts satisfactory. P.S. The location of the Wetumpka well is northwest corner location of east half of the SE one quarter of SW 23-9-10 Hughes County. Try to get no. of bbls. these wells will make and at what depth we will find it and how many days it will take to drill them.
