GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5097].
-
In giving the interpretations of the conditions as we find them here, while these can become very serious and some of the applications that have been made have proven for this particular body more to the disadvantage than to the advantage of the body, there may come help with some changes as may become necessary. This, however, is dependent upon how careful the body is in some of its activities. If the body will take the suggestions as may be made here and use them consistently and persistently, it may yet live a normal, active life.
-
It will not be well for the body to disregard all of the precautions until the body has thoroughly eliminated the sources and causes of the pulmonary disorder. The greater trouble at present is that in the collapsing of the lung, it has caused adhesions in the pleura and this gives, or may cause some complications, but if there is a nominal amount of exercise gently taken, we may eliminate much of these without a great deal of discomfort.
-
The warnings are not to get the feet or body wet and remain in the damp clothing, or remain too much in the night air. Whether you are in a mountain or in a valley, do not have too much night air.
-
Do take a nominal amount of exercise entirely in the open and the sunshine, though when it is too warm let it be in the semi-sunshine.
-
Yes, we would leave all the things off that are being done. We would begin with these:
-
Obtain a 2-gallon oak keg charred inside. Prepare this so there may be 2 vents in one end, one of these with a tube so that the gas that forms from the contents may be inhaled. In the two gallon keg put one gallon of pure apple brandy. Keep the keg with brandy in same, close to the heat (this may be by a stove or heater, but a stove should be sufficient, where meals are prepared) so as to cause an extra amount of evaporation. It is the gas from this evaporation, not the brandy, that is to be inhaled into the lungs. Inhale these fumes 2 or 3 times a day. In the beginning do not inhale too much. Do inhale it, do not swallow it. While it will not hurt to swallow it, it is not as helpful to the body. The gas will not only act as an antiseptic, but will, with the properties that should be increased in the body, aid the change in the circulation, aiding these chemicals in their proper proportion to the body assimilation and the body activity, or the whole of the digestive forces, and eliminate the cause of infection in the lungs proper, and we will find it will gradually heal those areas where at present there are openings, though not a great deal of live tubercle, but the adhesions as have been indicated are the more irritating for deep breathing.
-
Do also take Calcios as a form in which calcium may be assimilated best by the system. This should be taken at least 3 times each week in the beginning, and after the third or fourth week, take a small quantity each day, just the quantity that may be spread thinly on a whole wheat wafer and eat it, it’s not bad.
-
Twice a week take Acigest. This to aid the system in supplying the elements in the digestive system so that diets may build greater resistance so that when there are the activities of the leucocytes in the circulation, there will be a strangulation of the tubercle germ and destroy same. Take 1 teaspoonful of Acigest in a glass of whole milk that is already warm from the heat of the cow, it is better.
-
At times there will be a cough and spittle, but in such periods take internally, about two or three times a day, 3 drops of Glyco-Thymoline in a glass of water, as an intestinal antiseptic, as well as an absorbent of the destructive or detrimental forces coming from the cough.
-
In the matter of the activity: Do in the morning or evening, but preferably in the morning, not too many times, but gradually raise the hands straight out from the side, or by the side, then raise them straight up gradually level and gradually little by little up over the head. This raises the lungs and should gradually eliminate the tendency for adherence in the pleura. Then do a little walking as the body improves but not too over-tiring.
-
As to the diet: Have plenty of eggs, but not the white of the eggs. This may be taken in spirits frumenti with milk about once a day, making what is called egg-nog.
-
Do take coca cola occasionally as a drink for the activity of the kidneys, but do not take it with carbonated water. Buy or have the syrup prepared and add plain water to this. Take about 1/2 oz. or 1 oz. of the syrup and add plain water. This to be taken about every other day with or without ice. This will aid in purifying the kidney activity and bladder and will be better for the body.
-
Those of fish, fowl and lamb may be taken, but never fried, rather broil or roast or the like.
-
Have raw vegetables also, but not a great deal of melons of any kind, though cantaloupes may be taken if grown in the neighborhood where the body resides; if shipped don’t eat it. The fruits that may be taken: plums, pears and apples. Do not take raw apples, but roast apples a plenty.
-
Do that.
-
Be careful of drink or any drink that is made with carbonated water. If coffee is taken, do not take milk in same. If tea is taken, do not take milk in same. This is hard on the digestion and especially for conditions as exist here.
-
Do these consistently and you can soon forget you ever had tuberculosis.
-
Do not become pregnant, though before a year has passed, and then be very mindful that there is sufficient calcium or Calcios taken through the period of gestation and that occasionally watermelon or watermelon seed tea is taken.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would another climate be more suitable? (A) Do other places have better sunshine? These of course depend upon how consistent the body will be. This is a very good climate for the conditions, if the suggestions are followed.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/29/44 Letter: ”…As for myself, during the past month, there has been such obvious change. I feel it, and mentally I am shaking off a lethargy. Have been using Calcios and Acigest since May 25; other dietary changes were made immediately upon receipt of the reading. After making countless telephone calls and running an advertisement in the newspaper, there was no oak charred keg to be had in …, Calif. Finally, a gentleman was located in Fresno, Calif, who had a 2 1/2 gallon oak charred keg and shipped it to me
- used one gallon and a half (minus a 1/5 bottle) of Apple Brandy. Hildrick’s brand is not sold on the west coast, using Speas Brand which considered the best re-distilled. In search for the keg, my experiences were quite varied.
I tried to be very cautious and discreet about my information. I find that a quart (1/5) bottle of apple brandy had to be added every 2 weeks to keep the brandy level as you suggested. The inhalations were commenced on May 28, and each time I take the treatment, I have a peculiar feeling about it - a feeling of reverence would best describe it. Have started to walk some, and it’s quite surprising how soon strength has returned. The suggestion of getting outdoors and sunshine is wonderful, after being forbidden to even peek at the sun for almost 2 years. On the morning of the day we received copies of the reading, I was told by my doctor that my left lung had a small cavity and that the pneumothorax treatment proved unsatisfactory for the right lung, causing an opening again. After hearing that and more, I felt like a worm - and worms are beneficial to the soil. Upon returning home - there was the mail from you. Well, to be capable of adequately describing how I felt after reading the report - to leave off all things that are being done, etc., Mr. Cayce, for over a year I had an innate feeling that the applications made for my condition were not all correct. Yet, several times I mentioned a change in nutrition to my doctor - he thought my suggestion to be inconsequential. Will there be any literature available about this year’s Congress?…”
R2. 8/4/44 Husband’s letter: “Several months ago, both my wife and I had physical readings, and I can report good progress for her. However, she has been troubled for the past month with severe sneezing spells, accompanied with a clogged head, as though she had a bad head cold, yet she apparently does not have a cold. She has followed the suggestions in your reading very, very closely, still all of this has us worried quite a little. Do you think arrangements could be made…for a check reading? Oh yes, she insists that I mention that she is up and around, doing part of the housework…”
R3. 9/7/44 Letter: “For my birthday, my husband gave me a copy of ‘There Is A River’ and on the front page wrote: ‘Because of this man, the birthdays from now on will be happier.’ Such a very true statement… Toward the end of the month, it will be 4 months since I have commenced my treatment and I can truthfully say that everything has been complied with, except using milk from the cow with the Acigest. There isn’t a cow around here for miles; I use certified milk which is about room temperature. Also, I can’t work the egg-nog in successfully - it interferes with my dinner if taken in the mid-afternoon. I am gaining too much weight as it is. It seems without exaggeration, I have fully regained my strength, and at times have so much energy, I don’t know what to do with myself. I am doing a few light duties at home, and prepare or help prepare the meals; of course, there are 2 reasons for doing the above. I know there is a better all-over condition; however, for the past 2 months, I get terrific sneezing spells and my nose can easily be compared with a faucet. This goes on for an hour - abruptly ceases. There aren’t any appearances of a cold. These attacks are most prevalent in the morning. There are pains of various descriptions in my chest upper back, more pronounced on the left side; along with these there seems to be more cough and sputum. Right now, I am so chilled - my temperature at the moment is 108 - this condition seems quite sudden. May I please have a check reading…”
R4. 7/27/46 Letter to HLC: “Last night I talked to Mrs. [2982], and she suggested that I write to GD, so now I’ll try to put my woes on paper… Do you have extracts on diarrhea, dysentery and one on an ulcerated bowel? Would it be asking too much to have these sent. I need them very urgently. Two years ago, I was very fortunate to have a reading for T.B. for the lungs. Followed and I am still continuing with the suggestions. During January of this year, I had to make my annual appearance at the Board of Health. The x-ray showed considerable improvement, much to the surprise of the doctor. She thought it very strange that I made such progress without being in a sanatorium. I did not reveal any information about the reading, as it was and still is obvious that the doctor would label me as a psycho. Early this winter, I had a terrific cold, and I know I had a set back. Now about 3 weeks ago, I developed this condition of diarrhea or dysentery, and now it appears to be an ulcerated bowel - so doctors at the Board of Health say. She is insisting that I go to the county sanatorium, etc. for the bowel condition and lungs. I very emphatically refused to go, and very briefly related to the doctor about my little oak keg and brandy treatments and the diet. As I was speaking, I could see her eyes dilating until - honestly - they were as big and round as her glasses. Finally, to regain her dignity, she shrugged her shoulders saying, ‘But how could such a thing do you any good?’ You can imagine how I felt. This is about the situation for now…”
R5. 8/1/46 Extract 348-22 on Diarrhea sent.
R6. 8/11/46 Letter: “Received Extract on Diarrhea. Thank you a million times for your kindness. We certainly look forward to our Weekly Extracts and Diary Letter. They contain such a wealth of information, we are indeed fortunate to have access to them. Do you have an Extract for ulcerated bowel, or any bit of information? Am using suggestions for Diarrhea; however, I may have to face the other condition. May I please have the Extract if you have it? Miss Davis, please may I have a name or 2 of individuals who are at present following their readings on tuberculosis, or who have been healed? I am following my reading to the letter (so I think); however, I may be missing a fine point, and that is why I want so very much to correspond with someone who has had a similar reading… I do so much want to get completely well, so that I can be a useful individual…”
R7. 9/23/46 Letter: “Thank you for your letter of August 28, giving the names of 2 ladies who had readings on tuberculosis. Mr. Cayce, do you have any data on diarrhea due to or caused by tubercular toxins? I have had this condition since early in July; nothing seems to phase it. With this condition, I can’t follow the dietary suggestions given in my reading. Consequently, I have gotten terribly skinny and weak. Am using paregoric and atropine-sulphates; however, I can’t continue to use these much longer; yet I don’t know what to do or to whom to turn, except the Association. Miss Davis sent me an Extract on Diarrhea; however, the suggestions therein did not work for me. The doctor at the Health Dept. says this diarrhea is due to tubercular toxins and the severe chills I get each day are caused by those toxins. This doctor wants very much to put me in the State T.B. Sanatorium. God, not that. If I could only check this present condition, I know I can continue my good progress, as before. I know I don’t get a sufficient amount of rest, as my husband is unable to do anything. He has had a remission of his condition (multiple sclerosis), and has been home for several months…”
R8. 12/16/46 Husband’s letter: ”…In the past, my wife has contacted you with regard to an attack of para-typhoid she had during July of this year. She was declared well by the Board of Health, but the diarrhea continued without let-up. From the Association, she received Extracts which indicated the use of hot castor oil packs. This did not help, considering the fact that everything contrived to prevent her getting much needed rest; my inability to get around presenting the greatest obstacle. At any rate, she wore herself down to the point where all her constructive work in the past to overcome T.B. went by the board, and she was obliged to enter a hospital, where they have run extensive tests, and are now treating the bowel condition.
It has been established that her lungs are not in very good shape; but I’m positive it can be cared for through the suggestions in her Physical Reading on T.B. There is also the fact that the bowel condition is tubercular, which we do not have any information on. Would it be possible to get Extracts on such a condition? The plan now is to get my wife out of the hospital as soon as she has some strength and energy. Then we will fly back to my folks’ place… Once there, she can get rest, and start using the brandy keg again, plus whatever suggestions we get from you on the bowel condition. Doubtlessly, with rest and the proper application of her reading, all will be taken care of automatically. But if it is at all possible, I would like further information on the bowel phase.”
R9. 1/14/47 Husband’s letter: ”…We will be leaving for … Mich. tomorrow, that is, if all goes well…”
R10. 8/30/47 Husband’s letter: ”…While I’m writing this letter, I might add for your records, that my wife passed away last February, from complications which resulted when the T.B. entered the intestinal tract.”
R11. 7/24/52 No record of verbal or written contact on this case since 8/30/47.
Background
Background
B1. Born 8/27/15 in …, Michigan; resides in California; married; no children.
B2. 1/19/44 Husband’s letter: “Could you give a reading for both my wife and me? My wife has tuberculosis, and I have multiple sclerosis. We don’t have any idea of how you wish to handle this matter, but we wish to do whatever you desire.”
B3. 2/14/44 Letter: “After reading your inspirational brochure, I have faith that your reading will be of great help to us. Would you give a reading first for my husband, who is afflicted with multiple sclerosis. It seems there is so very little that can be done for it medically. At about the time my husband became ill with multiple sclerosis, I became afflicted with tuberculosis both lungs. It is almost 2 years ago. Would it be possible to know when you are ready to give my husband a reading, as by then I may be able to send my fee for a reading for myself, which I want so very much. Is it necessary to be present for the reading?”
B4. 3/3/44 Questions submitted in addition to those at end of Physical Reading 5097-1, and Case History: ”… I am so very grateful that I too will have a Physical Reading… While my husband was in the hospital, I was examined and x-rayed, and learned that I had a cavity in the apex of my right lung (July 1942).
“I was hospitalized and commenced taking pneumothorax. In about 2 months I had a fair collapse, and was told I would join my husband in … In December 1942, I developed pleurisy and consequently fluid formed and pneumothorax was discontinued. However, the fluid wasn’t absorbed by the system, so I was aspirated [an aspirator was used], and fortunately was able to resume pneumothorax. Early in July 1943, I had an extremely severe attack of pleurisy on the left side, and after being x-rayed it showed that I had a flare-up or an infiltration in the left lung. I also was pregnant at the time. Entered a sanatorium and after hemorrhaging (vaginal) constantly for 2 months, I was advised, in view of my condition, to terminate the pregnancy. On October 22, 1942, I was operated - after 10 days returned to the sanatorium. On January 8, 1944, I came home and am still confined to bed. I want so very much to be able to do my work. My husband’s and my own condition are a constant worry. I also have many adhesions on my right side and my pleural wall has thickened, and am taking very small quantities of pneumothorax. (1) Am I to continue pneumothorax for the right lung? (2) Would (pneumolysis) severing adhesions on the right side be helpful? (3) Will I be able to have children? (4) Couldn’t I simply forget about my T.B. and become useful and do some work? (5) Is there any dietary deficiency in my system?”
