EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions as affect same, [514]. Now, as we find, there are SPECIFIC conditions as cause the greater disorder in the physical forces of this body. These have to do with centers that have become so impoverished, through pressure in the nervous system, as to deaden portions of functioning system as related to those glands as make for distribution of those assimilated forces in the glands of that portion of the body as AFFECT the central organism; so that we have a DEADENED area. Then, the EFFECTS as this creates in the system are more OFTEN termed, or determined by others, to be causes when THIS is the seat or cause of condition, as WE find. This effect, as we find, reduces the blood supply as related to the replenishing or resuscitating forces of the body, making also an unequal balance in the white blood, as WELL as red, making for subnormal temperatures at times; again we find an ABNORMAL temperature; again we find the effect is as of nausea in the stomach and the digestive system; AGAIN we find the reflexes, too, become those of the effects to the eliminating system; while apparently digestion at TIMES takes place normally, the distributing of that as is assimilated becomes that which makes for the weakened conditions, the dull headaches, the tendencies for an increase of the phlegm, or that in the pulmonary system as of phlegm, too much secretions, the system attempting to take care, or create that that would overcome the disorder; the center from which this radiation appears, as we find, being in the 8th and 9th dorsal area, and will be found that this will be sore to the touch. When first this is treated, it wouldn’t appear so much - but with manipulations that would draw the nerve energy and blood supply to supply this area from which there are the radial reflexes and reactions, this will occur. During such periods we would add an exterior application, which would be composed of this:
-
We would take at least three folds of flannel, see - wet or moisten same thoroughly in THIS as combined together:
Cinnamon water, with particles of cinnamon in same,…1/2 ounce, Camphorated Oil…1/2 ounce, Tincture Lobelia…1/2 ounce, Tincture of Myrrh…1/2 ounce.
Now do not apply heat of too great a strength, but place this over the area just below the rib and over the lower portion of the stomach and upper portion of the liver area - see? This would be between the right side and the umbilicus plexus. This we would allow to remain until it has REDDENED the skin perceptibly and relieved the area.
-
We would also have those manipulations. These will necessarily begin with an easy application for the first four to six treatments, THEN the ADJUSTMENTS may be made along the WHOLE of the cerebro-spinal system, but PREFERABLY in that area between the 11th and 12th dorsal to the 6th and 7th dorsal - THAT area.
-
As to the diet, these will of necessity be those that are easily assimilated, as would be those of the citrus fruits of morning - these may be altered with stewed fruits, fresh fruits or the like, but DO NOT combine same.
-
In the noon or lunch meals we would have those of the junket, or of chilled soups, or of such natures, with the Graham or browned white bread.
-
In the evenings we would have rather those of the vegetables as were WELL cooked.
-
This, as we find, may produce - for the first portion of same - an irritation of those disorders as appear in the exterior circulation, as in the form of the rash - but these, with the disturbances REMOVED, will bring about a nearer NORMAL condition for this body, [514]. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How often should the osteopathic treatments be given? (A) At least every other day, but do not make adjustments until six or eight treatments have been given - see? When the pain is severe, or the applications to the exterior portion - these would only be made once a day, or once every other day, dependent upon how severe the disorder becomes in this liver and the LACTEAL ducts area. See, the condition is one of the ducts or glands has become deadened by the impingement of a nerve impulse in the 8th and 9th dorsal area. The REST of the conditions in the circulation, heart’s action, pulsation, nervousness, weakness, debilitation, loss of appetite - these do not all occur at once, but they do occur in their regular periods - are FROM the condition, as the condition in the intestinal tract, etc.
-
(Q) Has the climate had anything to do with this condition? (A) Hardly! Rather the injury that was had some years ago, when it got a good bump from somebody’s elbow!
-
(Q) Any other suggestions? (A) Let’s do these, and then we will have some more!
-
That is all the questions.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/31/31 Dr. M. L. Richardson’s letter to Dr. H. W. Forbes in re Miss [514]‘s treatments osteopathically:
Dr. H. W. Forbes 1204 Foreman Bldg. 707 S. Hill St. Los Angeles, Cal.
My dear Dr. Forbes:
“It was my pleasure today to give your name to Mr. Edgar Cayce of Virginia Beach who wished to refer Miss [514] of Los Angeles to a competent Osteopathic Physician.
When Miss [514] presents herself she will have a copy of Mr. Cayce’s ‘reading’ for you, and as Mr. Cayce and his ‘readings’ are perhaps new to you the situation might be a bit awkward unless you had some previous explanation. This is the reason for this letter.
In describing Mr. Cayce, whom I have known seven or eight years - I use terms which perhaps would not be of his choice, and yet they are the best I can do between you and me.
Mr. Cayce is a psychic who goes into a trance or a self imposed hypnosis. He is in this state consulted on matters of health by persons who may or may not be physically present at the reading. There are always present his wife as conductor; and a stenographer, and usually several others. Most of those who consult him he as never seen, has had no description of them or of their complaints. He has had no medical education.
In this trance he discourses on their condition, its cause and cure - reciting prescriptions, naming spinal lesions and giving other precise and definite information. The discourse is followed by questions asked by the conductor or by some interested person present.
The stenographer takes this down verbatim and you will see a copy of the reading in the case of Miss [514], the idea being that you will correct the lesions as revealed by the reading and apply such other correctives as are there recorded.
I never write or speak about Mr. Cayce without feeling that there is something I wish to or ought to say. I wonder if all of scientific training stall when they meet the psychic at close quarters?
So I leave the subject with these few closing remarks: Mr. Cayce makes no claim to any medical knowledge - he is in all respects a very modest man I have found - and he always requests physicians to check his readings against their customary examination and methods.
Always with highest personal and professional regards, I am”
Sincerely yours, [signed] M. L. Richardson, D.O.
R2. 8/4/31 Letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, 105th Street & Ocean, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
“The copy of the reading given my by you on July 30th, 1931, has just reached me. I have read it over a dozen times already and each time I get a better and clearer understanding of its contents.
I think the Reading is truly marvelous, Mr. Cayce, because it shows a knowledge of conditions of which I myself was only half conscious; and yet have been plainly evident for a long time.
I cannot begin to tell you how I appreciate your kindness, nor how I value the reading. I shall tomorrow make arrangements to follow out the suggestions it contains, and shall certainly follow it as faithfully as any one could. I have been feeling miserable for several months and have been taking medical treatment with apparently no results whatever, and I am very, very grateful to you for your kindness and help.
I have known of some of your marvelous readings thru [340] and [348] for some years, and I am very happy to know that I am to benefit from your wonderful gift. Thanking you again, I am”
Very sincerely, [514]
R3. 9/8/31 See 514-2 in re tightness at shoulder blades, asking if “deadened gland is being brought to normal”, intense itching of scalp at times, etc.
R4. 1/20/32 “I am glad to report that I feel 100% better than when you gave the first rdg. and have gained weight. The itching of the skin and scalp has almost entirely vanished and everyone remarks that I look so much better.” [She submitted questions.]
R5. 1/26/32 See 514-3.
R6. 12/26/32 Letter:
“I took 27 treatments by a Dr. Bersinger [Raymond M. Bersinger, D.O.], and he gave me lengthy, thorough treatments, and followed the reading faithfully. He was much interested in the readings and in the results obtained. I am feeling so VERY much better, look healthier - so much so that all my friends speak of it - and I am VERY anxious to know whether the conditions you found in the original reading have been corrected. I would have taken some more treatments but I just was compelled to stop on account of lack of funds.
Dr. Forbes’ prices for treatments were
10.00 for the first treatments and5.00 thereafter and I could not afford his treatments; he only gives 15 minutes of actual treatment.”R7. 2/15/34 See 514-4 for pain in jaw; pus in urine; pus pockets in teeth, etc.
