GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [5161], present in this room.
-
As we find, there are conditions which are aggravating or disturbing the body, and with the correction of these we may find many other disturbances responding to a better general coordinating in the eliminating systems.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [5161], we are speaking of; present in this room:
-
The blood supply here indicates an aggravation of a local nature, produced by the destroying of cellular forces in portions of the body, as in hands and the like. The cellular forces being destroyed without the regular channels for lymph and emunctory circulation, there are poisons being thrown off, as indicated through the rash and the effect as burns upon portions of the cuticle itself.
-
As to the activities this produces in the general circulation, much of these are carried into the central circulation so that the channels of elimination through the respiratory and perspiratory system, the liver and the kidneys, all have reflex conditions respecting these, and there is the consciousness in the sympathetic or sensory system, or sympathetic and sensory system.
-
These make for disorders in these organs also. This becomes, then, the greater contributory factor to disorders in those organs in their functioning for the system.
-
In the central nerve and blood supply, the heart’s activity, here it is reflected, and we have a condition which varies quite a bit. At times with activities that have taken a great deal of the strength, whether mental or physical, we will find a quicker pulsation and other times when the body sits to rest it doesn’t alter or change to a normal resting body as it should, but races on at times.
-
These, then, are, as indicated, reflexes or - are reflected in the nerve centers which control the equilibriums established between the sympathetic and cerebrospinal nervous system.
-
As we find, in making for administrations here, we would first apply a local application for the hands, that would be combined by an ointment prepared at least every other day. Take a cup of cut Plantain; the tender leaves, not the heavy. Some of the seed would also be well at this season. Then add to same an equal amount of top fresh cream (do not pack) in a cup or glass or whatever container this is measured in. Stir this together and let it come to a boil. Then apply over the hands and wrist where there are those irritations. Cover this for the night and then take off of morning, cleanse with an antiseptic (as of any mild antiseptic). We will find in a few days these conditions will disappear from the hands and wrist, if better circulation and elimination is set up between the liver and the kidneys and the stimulating of the alimentary canal. For the stimulation for alimentary canal we would give any vegetable laxative, as senna or such vegetable laxative.
-
We would prepare Mullein Tea as an exhilaration to the cleansing of the general circulation through the organs of the central system, as the liver and the kidneys. This we would take every other day, about two ounces. Take the dried Mullein leaves, a pinch between the thumb and forefinger and the second finger and put in a cup, pour boiling water on same, let this stand for at least thirty minutes, strain, cool and drink.
-
Then do have a massage along the spinal area from at least the 1st and 2nd cervical to the end of the spine. This will relax the body better. Do this with Peanut Oil, not too much but what the body will absorb. Do this once or twice a week just before retiring, then with the sponge bath of a morning or shower, these will make for refreshments to the body. Do not use any soaps that are too alkaline on the hands but tar derivatives are preferable for these.
-
Do that and we will bring better conditions.
-
The conditions in the activities of the mind and body and soul, know that these are one. The body has used, is using the experience of life well. Keep in that way of the ever creative influences and such activities as are applicable toward individuals, and we will find these will not only give a better outlook but make for better activity of the mental, of the spiritual, and the results in the physical will be much improved. These are general, yes, but make them specific in that “As ye would that others should do to you, do ye even so to them.”
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What may be done to improve eyes? (A) The massage, as these are given properly, with the changes which are being wrought in the circulation and the eliminations set up we should have less burning and more of an ability to use helpful forces. We would not put things in the eyes unless just to clarify them from the secretions which arise at times. These should help the body.
-
(Q) Left side of neck? (A) The massages and the applications for the body-forces should improve these conditions.
-
(Q) What causes and what will be done to overcome headache? (A) These are the reflexes from incoordination in the central nervous system as related to cerebrospinal and sympathetic, as given, and the reflex to the sensory nervous forces. These will be improved.
-
(Q) Lumbago? (A) This is occasional. These reactions are from the attempt of the conditions to perform the function of the other eliminating systems. These changed, however, these should be farther apart.
-
(Q) What is condition of heart? (A) As has been indicated.
-
(Q) What may be done to improve memory? (A) As indicated, the mental and the spiritual attitudes will improve the memory the more.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 9/29/49 We sent a questionnaire asking for a report. 10/3/49 It was returned marked DECEASED.
R2. 10/52 D. H. Fogel, M.D. told GD he would index this case under Dermatitis (hands), Heart (palpitation), Tachycardia.
R3. See Source File Key #5161 for 8/19/63 Report by Mrs. J. M. M. on Plantain salve and 11/8/65 pictures and descriptions of Plantain from the 1960 edition of THE HERBALIST; also 5/67 article sent by Dr. McGarey on Aloe Vera re 5161-1.
R4. 5/67 Article from THE GOOD LIFE on Aloe Vera:
ALOE VERA
THE MEDICINE PLANT
Uses to which the Aloe Vera plant has been successfully applied:
Burns or scalds; insect stings, poison ivy - An immediate and effective aid for burns of any sort. It does not blister or scar. Use: Split a leaf and apply the pulp directly to the damaged area. Soak cloths with the clear blended gel and bind on.
Acne or other itchings: Apply as for above.
Purify drinking water. It removes the chlorine or fluoridation taste and makes the water taste like that from a mountain spring. Make lemonade, tea, or coffee with this. Use: With a sharp paring knife peel the leaf on the upper or flat side. Cut lengthwise making about one inch widths. Remove pulp with a tablespoon. Use several chunks of the pulp in a jar of tap water. Keep in the refrigerator. Keep adding tap water as it is used. In from four to seven weeks the pulp will get soft and start to disintegrate. Then discard and start all over again with a fresh pulp.
A general tonic and mild regulator of bowels. Use: Slice smaller leaves or the tip end of a large leaf rather thin as you would unpeeled potatoes. Fill a jar 1/3 full with slices and add water. Stir. Refrigerate. Drink daily of the water as needed. Refill with tap water as used. This is a general conditioner.
Baldness and hair treatments. Usually the hair cells are merely dormant. Faithful application of Aloe vera gel, which is the peeled blended pulp, will wake up dormant cells. Use: Peel off bark-blend chunks of pulp into “egg white like” gel. Apply to scalp. Many women use gel as a wave set. Also rubbing it into the scalp, the result is a conditioner for the hair. A base can be added to pure gel to make a shampoo.
Ringworms and boils. Aloe Vera is used by the natives in Congo for ringworms and boils. The hunters annoint their entire bodies before a hunt. It reduces perspiration and body odors, permitting them to get closer to the game.
In the Philippines the gel is used with milk for dysentery and kidney infections.
Erysipelas, Mexicans apply a poultice of Aloe Vera pulp for relief of erysipelas.
OTHER USES
Stings, and allergy conditions. Kidney purge. Psoriasis. Eczematous rashes.
INTERN.
Stomach ulcers. Quantities of blended gel is taken at regular intervals, totalling a pint a day, preferably on an empty stomach. With this treatment use a bland diet. Best results are obtained by nonsmokers.
Colitis and diverticulitis.
Hemorrhoids and bleeding piles. Insert a chunk of peeled pulp size of a 1/2 a finger into rectum. If impossible to do this apply to anus. Especially beneficial for bleeding piles.
Sluggish liver. The use of Aloe Vera activates the liver to secrete more bile which enhances digestions.
IN CONCLUSION
Can you name a plant or any one medicine with as many curative uses for man’s sufferings as has this Aloe Vera plant?
It is indeed unfortunate that so few persons have made its acquaintance.
R5. 5/21/71 GD’s note: Bob Clapp tells me that the druggist at Ingram’s Pharmacy says that Compound Tincture of Benzoin is made out of Benzoin, Alcohol and Aloe Vera. I add this as a Report to 5161-1 because of the Plantain salve indexed here (as well as in many other Edgar Cayce readings), which seems to be similar, in its curative value, to the Aloe Vera.
See also the many references in the readings to the value of Benzoin, i.e. indexed under See Card PHYSIOTHERAPY:
APPLICATIONS:BENZOIN, and particularly 261-28 Reports of 5/21/71, and 5090-1 Reports dated 3/11/76 in re sources of Benzoin.
