GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [53]. You will give a mental, physical and spiritual reading, answering the questions as I ask them, giving suggestions for the betterment of any of these.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [53] - this we have had before, in the physical.
-
In many respects we find the body continuing on the improve. There are at times tendencies for a feeling - lately - over the body as of too quick a pulsation, and some little dizziness from same; congestion somewhat of the liver, or it - the eliminating organ - adjusting itself to the manner in which administrations for aid have been given the body, with cold making it more acute at times. This we would stir with an active force in the form of a vegetable compound, or with small quantities of any active force with same, WITH the manipulations increased in the area.
-
The general conditions through the limbs, the general circulation through same, are constantly on the improve, and we will find that - with the keeping up, for the time being at least, of those suggestions that were given for improvement - the body will continue on the improve. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What would be best for the body to take to stir the liver? (A) As given, any that acts as a cathartic with the liver. Better as a vegetable compound. This may be BEST suggested by the type or the kind of manipulation the one who treats the body expects to give.
-
(Q) Is body gaining weight too fast? (A) Not too fast, provided the exercises or the use of the lower limbs and the whole body - are kept well in accord with the increase in the vitality or vital forces of the body.
-
(Q) Should body change diet in any way? (A) It may, if it so desires, to reduce - that is, to prevent too much taking on. Leave off too much starches, or change to a diet something of this nature for the next thirty to forty days:
The only character of meat being either kid or lamb; nerve building fruits - pineapple; no sweets; no butter - but taking everything in as near its normal state as possible, without the additions of sugars; no potatoes of any kind.
These, as we find, would aid in preventing too much increase in weight.
-
(Q) Should body continue prescription? (A) For time being, yes. When it’s to be filled again, or re-filled, then leave off. Decrease in the quantity until this is gone.
-
(Q) Is there anything more body can do for numbness and weakness in leg and ankles and feet? (A) Only increasing the circulation by the relief of those pressures in the lumbar and in the locomotory regions. These will continue to allow the normalcy to return to the body.
-
(Q) Is body physically all right except legs now? (A) Except those deteriorations that have existed in the body from those hindrances in locomotion, and in the general replenishing forces.
-
(Q) Should body go home soon? or where should he find right work? (A) These may be applied wherever the body finds the surroundings most in accord with that the body has builded and is building in the mental and spiritual attitude. These may appear to be of an indirect or of an uncertain manner, but in these channels with which the body is acquainted the body may find the nicer, the better, the more CONGENIAL surroundings for the body’s labors.
-
(Q) What kind of work should body follow, or do? (A) That which has been followed, or found by the body to be that more in keeping with the nature or the tendencies of the body.
-
(Q) Will body’s health be so can safely have children, and when? (A) This, as we find, will be better, so that the body may BEGET children, in an early portion of the present year - or in the latter portion of present year. [See 53-4, Par. R11.]
-
(Q) Any advice regarding mental or spiritual body? (A) As the body has builded in the mental forces, this recuperation has begun. Keep an ideal and work towards same.
-
We are through for the present.

He is fine, working every day and always talking about you.”
R5. 6/17/31 Dr. Theodore J. Berger’s letter: “Have you followed the case of [53]? You should get all the details of his case for your records; in my opinion it is the most spectacular cure that has ever been effected through the readings. He was a helpless, hopeless cripple and is now doing hard, physical labor on the [255] place at …, N.Y.”
R6. 6/19/31 EC’s reply to Mrs. [4982]‘s son: “Yes, we all came to love Mr. [53] when he was here, and to know that he, too, is able to be back at his work is very, very wonderful. I would love for him to write us sometime the whole history of his case. I would be very glad to have it, and I am sure he will feel the better for giving God the praise.”
R7. 6/22/31 EC’s reply to Dr. Berger: “We have had quite a number of reports from [53], but no detailed report. I have asked that he send me one and I am going to ask that you, too, give me your report, and we can put them together.”
R8. 8/6/31 EC’s letter to Dr. Berger via Thomas Sugrue: “You made the suggestion sometime ago and now I am very anxious that we get a full and complete history of the [53] case. Not so much from the standpoint of just another case healed, but rather as the seemingly hopeless condition physically - and the mental desire of the man to follow the information, and your cooperation in making the applications suggested.
“Mr. Thomas Sugrue, bearer of this letter, has been asked to interview you; not for any newspaper or magazine or anything of the kind, but to be written only as our record, in the hope to be able to present it in such a way as to be helpful to someone else in their affliction. Any courtesy or favor you can show him along this line will certainly be appreciated.”

R13. 4/49 Mr. [53] sent A.R.E. word by Mrs. [255]‘s son that he has a farm in Md. and is getting along fine; carrying on his work without any return of trouble.
R14. 9/18/67 “I am one who was helped by Edgar Cayce in 1931. I was at Cayce Hospital 3 wks…where can I get book of extracts Jess Stearn mentions in his book?”
R15. 10/6/93 JT’s note: The younger son of Mr. [53] reported: Dear Mrs. Thomas: To update your files, enclosed are the death certificates of [53] my father and my mother. Some family information is recorded on these certificates.
Dad and Mom were living in Deposit, New York when I was born. They moved to Delaware permanently around the year 1940 I believe. They came to Delaware earlier, but the depression caused them to lose the farm they were on then and they moved back to New York. When I was small they came back to Delaware and stayed.
Dad never talked about his biological parents to us, but we do know he was adopted or raised by […] and […]. Sometime, at a later date, I will try to look up some pictures and forward them to you. Again, I want to thank you for all your help. The papers you forwarded are very interesting to all our family. We heard our Dad talk quite often about Edgar Cayce and what he did to help him. Edgar Cayce was really a miracle for my Dad. I really enjoy reading the papers you forwarded as well as many of the books on Edgar Cayce that my father had. Thank you so much for your help. Sincerely yours, […]
