This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 44 West 77th St., Apt. 14-W, New York City, this 24th day of March, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [531], Active Member of the Ass’n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading … Street, 4:00 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Philadelphia, Pa. (Body & enquiring mind - Physical suggestion - Questions. South-north Polarization.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [531], present in this room; this we have had before.

2. In the physical forces of the body we find as these conditions existent, and these have made for improvements from that as we have had before in many ways. Yet we find specific conditions that disturb the body at times.

3. These, then, are the conditions as we find them, comparing same with that as we have had here before:

4. The BLOOD SUPPLY as related to the nerve energies shows an improvement in the manner especially in which the secretions from the glands make for activities to the physical functionings and their reactions in the system. Yet these carry with them in the present much of that which has not become tonal, or activative in the manner that should make for or should be perfectly coordinant with the system. This arises in the system from this form of a humor in the effluvia or the urea of the blood supply itself, producing in the axis a pressure that is a too great strain for the reversing of the activity to the impulses in the system. Hence at the 1st, 2nd cervical, or at the axis or base, we find the filling up of those associate connections between the impulses of the sympathetic system and of the cerebro-spinal system governing the inlet, as it were, to the motivative forces within the brain centers to act upon those reactions in the carrying out of the forces in the body itself, see?

5. This produces these reactions where the body becomes, then, as supersensitive, through the sympathetic body. And being of the natural high tension, high nerve forces, makes for pressures in this center. Not that the sources of that assimilated have not improved. Not that the sources of reinfectious forces have not been corrected a great deal. But that there has not as yet been as perfect coordination of reaction as there should be.

6. As we find, we would apply occasionally the adjustments in the cerebrospinal system; this once a week or twice in a week at times when there are special strains.

7. Yet each day we would take those vibrations from the low electrical vibration of the Radio-Active Appliance; this as the body rests for thirty minutes or forty-five minutes, just before retiring. This appliance would be to the extremities in most periods, but once each week for an hour make the application of the first anode attached to the base or the 1st and 2nd cervical, and the other last attached at the umbilici and lacteal duct area centers. Not necessary that there be larger anodes or plates, but these attached here, you see, on Wednesdays of each week. At other periods the attachments would be made to the opposite extremities of the body.

8. Then, be mindful of the diet as has been indicated. Not necessary that there be any specific medicinal properties taken internally in the present; for we would rather make for a coordinating of the energies as indicated in the corrections already made.

9. In the mental applications of the body, keep in that same attitude of expressions, in specifically entering into the inner consciousness through those periods of mediation, where there may be more and more that meeting, that coordinating of the influences from within to the Creative Forces that make for energizing of the mental abilities as related to creative energies, and finds expressions in the activities to and through its relations to the fellow man.

10. These will make for those great periods of relaxation from the mental energies that are used from the physical forces of the body. These will make for the strengthening of the spiritual attributes that manifest in the experience of every individual. And more and more does harmony in the physical forces, harmony in the mental application, come in such ways and manners as to bring the greater forces, the greater influences for constructive activity of the body, the mind, the soul.

11. Ready for questions.

12. (Q) Would Florida be a suitable location for my activities? (A) As we have indicated through the associated activities of the entity, Newark or the vicinity makes for the correct environmental forces; though Florida, especially the northern portion - or Jacksonville - may be MADE, by the creative forces of the body-activities itself, an acceptable place for general physical and material activities of the body.

The CORRECTING of the vibrations within self will make for much greater harmonious influences in the surroundings. But if the inner self receives the answer through its own meditative forces, it is better than to say through these sources that this or that environ would be the best. If with the entering into self, PHYSICALLY, the answer is that it would be better - that is, get the answer from the mental attitude of self, Yes or No. Then enter into the meditative forces and ask, Is the answer as received in self Yes or No? And this coordinating will be the correct move.

Each soul-entity must depend upon the awakening from within more and more. For His promises have been, “If ye will be my children, I will be your God.” CLAIM that relationship. DEMAND of Him that recognition, and He fails NOT!

13. (Q) What should be my life work for the greatest possible service to mankind? (A) That which has been indicated, in the distribution and in the association of that which feeds the body-physical, the mind-mental, the body-spiritual. These, in its associtations, in its environs, make for that channel as we have indicated through which the greater good, the greater development for self may come. For more and more does the entity come to an awareness, or awaken to the realization, that in order to have one must give. To have friends one must show self friendly. To have love and respect, to have honor and those attributes of same, one must show self LOVELY through its associations with its fellow man; respectful, glorifying that which is an attribute OF the spirit of truth in EVERY way in which one meets or finds self in the experience of others. If one shows self lovely to the entity, then EXPRESS it in the activities, in the creative manner, and this MAGNIFIES same in self’s experience - whether in distribution of this, that or the other.

The fruits of the soil that feed the physical man, that cheer the mental attributes, that awaken the spiritual awareness; these are the channels and fields of activity.

14. (Q) Please give me specific directions or instructions for expressing my soul power, and explain what my particular faculties of expression should be and how I should employ them. (A) In making practical application of those attributes that are seen, in the activities of others, as just indicated, it is in purifying self in mind, in body, in the ways and manners as to make self the greater channel through which the attributes of the spirit and the fruits thereof may grow and manifest themselves. Not that some great deed may be sought to be accomplished, but here a little, there a little, line upon line. As He has given, let each day be sufficient unto its good, unto its evil thereof. For these, my friend, are the fruits of the spirit: Kindness, gentleness, brotherly love, faith, hope. These in thy daily life bring harmony in thine own experience. Thou canst be gentle with thy neighbor, thy associates, thy friends that ye contact day by day. PATIENCE, fellowship with them in the same way and manner. This does not mean to be so quiet as to become dormant, but an activative force, a cheery work, a smile, a grand handshake, and experience that these things are expressed in thine own life. Give these out to others and the day becomes much cheerier, much happier, and soon there will be such a fullness of joy in the material life, in the mental life, in the spiritual life, as to make for its experiences more and more becoming worth while to the fellow man and to self. As an expression of same, here:

In thy contacts thou hast brought much to many. These are gradually showing in thine own activities, in thine own satisfaction. Not to the glory of self does it come, but as to making thy life and thy experience more and more interesting, more and more worth while, more and more joy in thy daily activities.

15. (Q) Are there any specific demonstrations that I should attempt in developing myself? (A) These will come in their own place, in their own time. He that seeks for a SIGN is rather in the position of one that would be secured in the beginning, and lessens his faith. But as one manifests those attributes, these bring to the body-consciousness, body-awareness, the experiences necessary for the awakening. For, as thou has experienced in thine inner self, when thou hast opened the door of thine inner consciousness, thou hast found Him waiting to speak with thee. Fear not, for ye will be assured again and again that thou hast chosen the better way.

16. (Q) There has come to my mind a thought now. How did you see it, as a realization of evil or good? (A) A realization of good. For these, in thy associations and in thine desire to help, in these varied channels, will make for the opening of the ways to a better, a greater understanding.

Let thy entering in be in accord with that in the manner that ye may purify thy body according to the dictates of thine inner conscience, as you would enter in to glorify thy Lord and thy Master, purging the body, purging the mind, purging the self in such manners. For, He has given, no sacrifice is acceptable save as of the DESIRES of self to be one with Him.

Not the blood of rams or of goats, not of denials of this or that; but rather the manifestations of POSITIVE activity, knowing His strength and power is sufficient, and that in whatsoever ye may find constructive forces manifesting, He is there. For, as has been said of old: “If I take the wings of the morning to fly into the utmost parts of the earth, He is there. Though I descend into the bowels of the earth, or into the depths of the sea, He is there. Though I make my bed in hell, He is THERE.” That promise, “When ye call I will hear, for I am closer than thy hand, closer than thy inner self.” OPEN thy heart, thy mind, that He may enter in.

Haven’t written you for sometime past, but, since reading the reports of your “get-together” I thought to drop you a letter and tell you to keep it up, as there is no doubt we are all getting nearer and nearer to the “divine”. It seems to be a questionable road, a long and tedious job, which appears to be filled with vicissitudes, but, we will get there.

You will be glad to know that I am greatly improved - that is I feel that contentment to which you referred in one of your readings and while my pain on the back of my neck has not diminished, I can tolerate now what I couldn’t before.

And as to my associations with my fellowmen, well, scout I don’t think there is any other more square shooter than myself (pardon the bragging) and I think I’ll keep it up, in spite of “what have you” and “why-fors”. Eh?

Dear Edgar:

When you gave me a reading sometime ago suggesting these osteopathic manipulations you also said have my teeth attended to. Now, I went to get my teeth X-Rayed, because candidly I have been suffering with headaches, at the base of the brain and muscular pains around my shoulders, while also some slight dizziness. While the osteopathic treatments seems to be okeh temporarily, I am a walking barometer, every time it rains, because I get these terrific headaches.

Now, Dr. Soden suggested that in order to move my spinal well, I be placed under anaesthesia, as I seem to be hard egg to crack. On the other hand, with these headaches I went to the X-Ray specialist and to my regular physician - examination discloses I have no sinus trouble whatever, and what someone called artero-sclerosis is not such, but, two doctors suggested a “Spinal” to which I said no.

Yet, I just got back from the X-Ray and it seems there is trouble in the mouth, because it says:

THE EDENTULOUS AREAS OF THE UPPER RIGHT FIRST MOLAR, the LOWER RIGHT FIRST MOLAR AND THE LOWER RIGHT SECOND MOLAR SHOW THE PRESENCE OF SMALL ROOT REMNANTS REMAINING IN OR ON THE ALVEOLAR PROCESS (Thus some doctor in the past, didn’t do all his work of pulling teeth right). Then, it also reads: THE LOWER CENTRAL INCISOR, the LOWER LEFT CUSPID AND FIRST BISCUSPID show well defined evidence of chronic periapical diseases.

Thus, I think Friday I’ll get this extracted and fixed - but WHAT DO YOU THINK, I am not moving till you say the word.

B4. 3/8/35 Letter:

Dear Edgar:

I don’t know if I am affected by what has happened a few minutes ago, but I am prompted to write you, after returning from the dentist, where in using sweet air, I had three teeth extracted. X-Rays revealed some foreign matter, though the teeth outside has been a specimen of beauty, cleanliness. On the other hand these pains along the medula oblongata, or the ganglia, frequent headaches at the base of my brain and in front of my eyes, are attributed to these bad teeth, and since you said in one of your readings “go ahead and get some teeth fixed” I went. I had written you a letter a few days ago, and expected to hear from you but assume you went away, and it seems your letter, telling me that the secretary went away to see her ill mother must have cross mine, where I told you I was going to get teeth fixed and suggested you write me.

Anyhow the job is done - and the same experience I had when I was under gas before - that of a contact which, what may seem be a man of wisdom or being supreme, and unquestionable some guidance, which, I think is guided by another guidance. (If there is a God, as there is, that God has another God, and the other God, another one and “ad infinitum”) (May be I am wrong, but don’t blame me, because, we must live in CONFUSION amidst happiness, disappointments, and “what have you”).

We must live in confusion until someone man, of more intelligence than us, “licks” the situation or “clicks” and solves the mystery or problem of life - and someone will click, someday, soon. We are just the “reflectors” of the power of the supreme being, which wants us to show him or challenges us to go ahead and do what he does if we can. He is not egotistical, he seeks LIGHT and more KNOWLEDGE and places us here to give us a chance to use him.

Boy, as I come from the ether, and experience that same dream, illusion or, that thing like being in some remote, unknown place - call is, by sake of a name “the spiritual world” of the plane of the soul - I know, that there is something, which I haven’t defined, but I will someday, either when I go or when I come back to earth.

You keep on in spite of tribulations and assuming there is a sincerity of purpose, I think, you are on the right road of things. Help me, if you can to SEE the light, to be able to improve my service to humanity, to my fellowmen, to live as a shining example of true manhood, and in your mental contacts with me, work along, like the waves of a radio and say: [531] go on…and I’ll say and you too Edgar - keep it up.

Guess other folks may seem we are “crazy” but, possibly they don’t understand what only we understand in our own way and manner, and can’t explain in words. If this is not a cockeyed logic, am a donkey, but, it is a logic anyhow!

B5. 3/11/35 Letter:

Dear Edgar:

I had my teeth extracted - three of them, last Friday and Dr. Dean, who performed the extraction said, he did not believe necessary to remove “what appeared to be” remainings of roots - so negligible this, and further, because the ones removed nor any part of my mouth hurted me. For that matter, I have complained of headaches, pains at the base of the brains, and now of later around the face, near my ears, and occasionally I get a fainting spell - very negligible though, but what is more have been getting these headaches, for some time, since I wrote you originally.

Calling upon Dr. Hollis, he examined me, last Wednesday and said there was nothing wrong with my eyes, nothing with my frontal sinus, and the X-Ray disclosing these teeth which were removed, as having matter, there was nothing else to do but to “get them out”. I did, and yesterday and to-day we have had bad weather, and it seems my pains in the head, are more pronounced while the weather is bad, or when it is going to change. Now, this may be a neuritis, and if so, it shows that there is something wrong somewhere - for that matter it may be a cold centered somewhere around the head, because I experience occasionally and of late, slight chill, but in all, it seems to me, that there is some sort of a congestion or inflammation somewhere. May be I am all wrong.

When I called for insurance, sometime ago one Dr. examined my heart and said nothing wrong - some two years ago, I guess - but at that this company would not issue insurance. If I have been well informed, Dr. Snader, said to me, that I had “artereo esclorosis” [arterio-sclerosis] which is doubted, and I think these doctors are acting upon the fact that there is a luetic [syphilis] history, in spite of the fact that all my Wasseemans are negative. I took a treatment some five years ago through a fellow named Campbell, and he is a darn good little doctor, and brought me back, until some two years or so when it seems I am getting these headaches back.

Since I hate to be sick, I called on Campbell, and he said [531], two weeks after you get your teeth extracted, come and see me, but today Edgar I feel that slightly funny sensation, sort as if telling me that I am either nervously impressed with my sickness, or have a bad cold (though no part of the body hurts me) but that I know there is something wrong somewhere, there is no doubt, and I am not a neurotic. Campbell, also suggested a spinal, and I said “no” but then he said, well suppose we give you some mercury on the skin, and I really don’t know what good is this, as it seems, every doctor, must have a clue as to what is wrong and then based on that clue they make a diagnosis.

A few weeks ago my wife’s father died, and my wife called me up and she didn’t say anything about her father, but spoke in such manner that I thought something has happened to my baby girl, and I was shocked - that same day I felt on the snow, and did not sprain any part of my body but at that since that day it seems I am more nervous than ever, and these slight, faint - here and there pains - in the head, as if it were the end of the nerves, as well as around the neck, got me going.

I have done exercises and I went to the osteopath [C. Haddon Soden, D.O.], and for a time, when the first 15 treatments were taken I felt very well, but during the last four treatments by Soden, some two weeks ago the contentment is only for a few minutes, and then, particularly when the weather is bad, I get these headaches and this feeling of being sick.

It seems that when I bend my head forward, and try to turn it, two ligaments or something pulls, and for that matter the back of my neck muscles, seems hard, stiff like, irritated, and I have had a constant pain there, but this pain I don’t mind, and what gets me is the silly-like headaches, just stiff enough and bothersome enough to tell me something is wrong.

I am not anxious to spend money in every doctor, and I haven’t such money, and I am anxious to feel well, and get cured. I don’t know if my glad glands] are bad - I doubt it - having studied and read about medicine I may think I have the beginning of mastoids, or next day may feel I have prostarte glad trouble, or may be I am going to be a paralitic, or what not - but whatever it is, these pains around the head, in here and there spots, combined to the constant headaches around the medula oblongota and the pains (when I turn my head) in the next indicate that there is something wrong.

If it is a cold in the head, I don’t feel it, though when I look at the sun, straight, I invariably sneeze - but there is something wrong, as there is no reason why I should feel sick, and be so nervous as I am - sometime feel “shakie” and believe me since I desire to live and be guided by that which MUST help me to be good and to CONTINUE on earth, so as to accomplish and do something for those I may live behind someday, I do not see any reason why I can’t feel healthy and be healthy - but between you and I - I’ll be hanged if I am willing to have doctors experiment with me and then find that what they think is - is not.

B6. 3/11/35 Monday P.M. Letter:

Dear Cayce:

I wrote you a long letter this morning, about my condition, as I see it, but, it is now about 4 and returned from check up by dentist, who says teeth extracted okeh - you know post care they call this. Now, I took a run upstairs to see my Doctor Campbell, a young fellow and just for the fun of it had my blood pressure taken, as to-day is a rainy day, and while my headaches is not so sever, I just wanted to know what was what. Blood pressure is 98, which been low, shows that I can’t have aretero-sclorosis. Dr. Snader, told me that who ever told me that I had it, must have been in “bad shape” so you see, Dr. Campbell and Dr. Snader check on this.

Now, I do know that I am of an extremely nervous temperament, so called high strung and naturally these pains in the head, which may be a pressure on some nerves around the ganglia (as I feel a pain at point pointed in sketch constantly moreover when I tilt my head forward) and the sympathetic nerves carry it to points in the head, where also the cranial nerves are - this is my own assumption, but, I know there is something wrong somewhere and I am willing to take a curative treatment or step.

Now, I have been asked to often relax, but I fail to do this many a times because my impetus and enthusiasm is ahead of me. If you could see my fingers typing this letter, you would think the machine was on fire, but, friend, I don’t feel so good, and I want to know what is what and want to get a cure.

May be, some lesion or pressure while Soden was massaging or may be the old condition, made worse, or what have you but there is something that is giving me these headaches, and I don’t think is my blood, nor that I need my spinal puncture to know if it is here. It is something that may have something to do with the nerves.

I’d certainly well like to know what is what,
