Time of Reading … Street, 3:10 to 3:35 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Philadelphia, Pa. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [531]; this we have had before.
-
Now, as we find, there are changes in the physical forces of this body since last we had same here; yet not all of these indicate bettered conditions. There has been and is the recurrent condition from toxic forces that have affected, that do affect, the VITAL forces of the body.
-
There have been, as indicated, the effects upon the mucous membranes, upon the lymph circulation, from those infectious forces that arise from what is called a catarrhal condition - or the lymph and emunctory reaction that produces a force of infection in the system. It affects the body in much the same way as a rheumatic reaction, or a nervous reaction. For these conditions naturally in their very nature affect the nervous system, and especially in its relationships to muscular reaction; so that by exercise, by even small amount of draft that would be practically unnoticed by the body in its activities, by getting too warm in one way and manner or by cooling off too quickly, there is the reverberating - as it were - to the conditions that are existent. This makes for not only the repressions that produce headaches at times, hurt and burning of the eyes, but through cold or congestion a form of neuralgia that affects the head, the shoulders, and even the torso at times. All of these are but effects, as we find.
-
To be sure, a period of temporary relief might be brought with applications of a nature that would be eliminating, or for the increase of the organs’ functioning - as of the lymph circulation through the activities of the kidneys, the alimentary canal, and the forcing of the emptying of the lower portions of the duodenum and the like.
-
But to meet and to make for the eliminations entirely of such conditions from the system, as we find, would be the manner in which the body may find the greater and better relief. Though requiring a little longer period, to eliminate the cause rather than the effects in the present will make for more permanent reaction in the body.
-
Hence, as we find, little of those things that have been indicated for the body would be retained or kept, save the applications of the low electrical forces or radiation activity in the body itself with the Radio-Active Appliance.
-
This should be kept perfectly cleansed in the anodes, and used each day for a regular period. During such periods when this is taken and the body rests for the mental and physical and the general better activity of the body, it would be well that these be also the periods for the meditation or concentration and dedication of self for its greater abilities in being of the helpful and hopeful manner in all of its relationships to its fellow man - as well as for the awakening of the possibilities in every relationship in which the individual deals with its activities in its experience in life at this time or period. These should be the attitudes.
-
Keep the ice in same, but not allowing same to come above or to make for shortcircuiting. While no effect will be had or held by the body during the taking of these treatments, or no feeling of same, there will be produced not only rest from the irritations that have been active and present in the system, but activities will be builded for that which will be most helpful. These treatments we would retain.
-
We would begin almost immediately with taking the high colonic irrigations. These would be preferably of the soda nature, or a soda solution - the ratio about a heaping tablespoonful to the gallon and a half to two gallons of the warm solution or water. And in the last water we would use the Glyco-Thymoline as an intestinal antiseptic.
-
In this manner we would aid to prevent or keep from causing a great deal of irritation from the infectious forces.
-
We would begin first with taking one, as today or tomorrow. Then gradually, on Monday or Tuesday, take another and go a little higher; not attempting to cleanse the colon all at once, but gradually. For it would be rather straining to attempt all at once. Then in the latter part of the next week we would take another. Then we would wait until the latter part of the next week; and continue in this manner until six or eight such treatments have been given. Give about one a week; or take them a week apart, after the first two or three.
-
Also we would use the corrective or manipulative forces from the osteopathic adjustments that would make a stimulation to the DRAINAGES of the body, as from the upper dorsal and through the cervical area. Thus we may not only break up the congested areas in this portion of the body but set up drainages through the ganglia that stimulate the impulse of activity for drainages or eliminations from the face, the head, the upper portion of the chest, and through all the upper part of the body for their EMPTYING, as it were, of their drainages - or their used forces, or the drosses from the system - more into the alimentary canal.
-
These, as we find, we would take in the present about twice to three times the first week. Then we would gradually taper off with two the next week, and then one or two the next. Then rest a period and then begin again.
-
Be mindful of the diets, that we keep in a more constructive way and manner.
-
And, as we find, we will bring the better responses and make for the eliminations entirely of the disturbing activities from the system. And the congestions or activities that have been produced in the lymph circulatory forces, in tissue in face, head, and through the neck and digestive area, should be relieved entirely so as to allow the body to replenish itself normally.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Sudden rushes of blood or something about the base of my brain. Are they such, or just nervous pains? (A) Nervous pains and also the rush, as it were. Or it is rather the filling of the IMPULSE to ganglia through a disturbed circulation, that does not find the easy flow. Or it finds rather congestions that, being hard - as it were - to push through, makes for pressures in these particular areas.
If those suggestions are followed as indicated, these will soon disappear.
-
(Q) Is typing hurting me? Is this a factor? (A) Only under the nervous strain of the general deteriorating influences. These activities should become rather a pleasure than a strain or an injury in any way or manner.
-
(Q) I seem to get a glare - affecting eyesight, etc. Do I need glasses? (A) If these suggestions are followed as indicated, we will not be in the need of glasses yet. Such effects are from pressures that are hindrances, especially through the lymph circulation, through soft tissue in face, head and neck, by congestion and accumulations of poisons.
-
(Q) Outside of my health condition, I would like to know if my financial condition will improve - etc.? (A) As we have indicated, with the applications for keeping the intent and purpose in the activities of the body physically and mentally, these would naturally lead to the advancement in contentment, in ability, and naturally in financial surroundings.
With the application of the low electrical forces that arise by the association of radial forces in the extremities of the body, if the appliance is correctly grounded in the ice and if the connections are in their proper relationships and cleansed, with the meditative forces that make for concentration, the body will be enabled to fit itself physically and mentally to be of a greater service, to find more and greater opportunities for the expression of that gained through the desire and application of that learned by the body in its relationships to its fellow man and those about the body.
Do that, then.
-
(Q) Any other suggestions at this time? (A) Do that.
-
We are through with this reading.

(10/11/35 GD’s note: See enclosed letter to Osteopath with directions for the adjustments and manipulations. You may be able to get in once a week to Reilly’s for the colonics, according to letter given with directions this afternoon. It seems from the above that now you are to attach the Radio Appliance to the extremities; that is, one day it would be the first attachment to the right wrist, the other to the left ankle; the next day first to the left wrist, the other to the right ankle - in contact with the pulse.
Let us hear how you get along.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/28/35 [531]‘s letter to GD: ”…I did not get to go to Reilly’s. Now, when I originally received the battery from someone I think in Jersey I was skeptical and found, as I thought, that a connection was not right. This, outside of the fact that to me, it seems this was not the battery suggested, but anyhow, that is that.
“Now I sent this back to Reilly a week ago, and asked him to fix it, and I never had it. Then, too, I want his explanation and PROOF that the battery works, because anything that is not felt by a layman, the layman cannot ascertain when or when it is not working. What proof has he, that the battery works? That’s what I want. I think I am entitled to it.
“As to the treatments I asked them to tell me if they knew of a place in Philadelphia. I can’t go to New York, you know it. Whenever I go to see you it is because I need it, and will make a sacrifice to keep my health, but cannot continue the expense, sabe?…”
R2. 11/9/35 GD’s letter to [531]: ”…I’m sorry we didn’t inform you that Reilly no longer had charge of the Radio-Active Appliances, so that you would have been saved all that trouble. I think we have a young man in Norfolk now who understands these appliances and can do better and quicker work on them.
“Now, as I understood from your last reading, the appliance you have is alright; except that the connections to opposite extremities would be better now than to the spine as you had been using same. The same connections may be used, but just make the attachments differently. Do you polish off the plates each time before using, with the emory paper? This is very important, so as not to come in contact with poisonous vibrations. I believe if you will begin using the appliance with the new way of attaching it, you will find that it will create harmony in your circulation instead of discord; that is, the first attachment one day to the right wrist with the other plate to the left ankle (right inside on each where the pulse is); and the first attachment the next day to the left wrist with the other plate to the right ankle. See? If this is not clear, please write to The Health Home Remedies Co., 2709 Lafayette Blvd., Norfolk, Va., Attention Mr. Harry Storey.
“If you haven’t had those colonic treatments, you must feel pretty rotten by now. Why don’t you get a fountain syringe with a COLON TUBE attachment and give them yourself? You could follow directions given in reading, and I’m sure you would feel much, much better even after the first two or three such colon irrigations. Of course, most any hydrotherapy place could give you colonic irrigations, but they might be rather expensive - and a place not familiar with Mr. Cayce’s work would not give them exactly as described in the reading. However, if you do not want to be bothered by giving them yourself, look up a good physiotherapist (in the telephone book) near you and give him the letter with the directions which I wrote for Reilly…”
R3. 1/1/36 EC wrote thanking Mr. [531] for box of biscuits for Christmas.
R4. 1/2/36 [531]‘s letter to EC: “More power to you during 1936. It may interest you to know that a well known physician checked my symptoms and, found exactly what you stated in the reading, also recommended the very same cure, which checks through and through with you. Keep it up.
“I have been feeling fair, but will try to live more in the regime set, only I haven’t the time right along.
“Now as to the battery I go to sleep on this but the only thing that perplexes me is: When will this battery get exhausted? How do I know it is working? I guess I owe the fellow who fixed it something. If not, thanks but anyhow you take this $5.00 as my contribution to the association.
“Regards to all, and I hope you enjoyed the biscuits. I hope that my spiritual guidance during 1936 will enable me to serve mankind better and give me no capital, but enough to live decently and honorably.
“Keep it up, old boy, you are doing great…”
R5. [531]‘s note: “I have: Tenosynovitis of posterior neck muscles, due to being an unstable nervous type with high tension make up.”
R6. 2/14/36 [531]‘s letter to EC: ”…I have sent to you under separate cover the battery and I will ask you to send this to the gentleman who fixed it before. Candidly, I think it is exhausted. I have used the battery once in a while but have gone to sleep soundly and the battery has been working often for eight hours continuously during the night. The first time I used this battery it was thrilling. I knew there was something to it, but it seems to me that the life of the battery is not long.
“You will please tell your friend to let me know what I owe him for services and postage and I will remit, but have him put it in condition promptly.
“By the way, I believe I told you that I was getting very good reactions with your treatment and while some days, like today, I am not up to standard, I have come to realize that there is something good in what you are doing so much that at this particular time, 1:30 o’clock, I am thinking of you and in writing, I am wondering, if, perchance, as sort of a check-up, you are also thinking of me. It would be a good idea to know if the spiritual teamwork is there at this time…”
R7. 7/22/36 Mr. [531] obtained 1228-1, a Life reading, for his little twenty-one month old daughter.
R8. GD’s note: [531] and EC exchanged many letters. He always sent EC a gift on his birthday and at Christmas.
R9. 4/2/37 [531]‘s letter to EC: ”…I have had several readings, and I have been checking these readings and ‘there is something to the subject’ though there seems to be ‘doubt’ or ‘obscurity’ guided by a desire to investigate, or let’s say, by the spirit of ‘show me, I am from Missouri.’
“You understand me.
“Now, one thing has perplexed me in the readings, and that is ‘location somewhere near Newark’ [531-5, Par. 12-A?] and since such reading I have been trying to see the way for such location, which as you say may or may not have any bearing, but at that, the ‘opportunity’ has not shown itself.
“For sometime past I have been feeling fair. I went to a trip to Cuba and perhaps, the lack of responsibility or the necessary rest or leisure, made me feel swell down there, then, too, it seems that the Philadelphia weather is most annoying to me, as I do not appear to be myself. Naturally, if there is some lack of functional coordination, work, pressure of business, etc., all these things are bound to come, but I do know, that I have found relief, consolation and fine feelings by doing what you have said. Often I have, because of pressure of work, neglected to follow instructions, but, for instance you suggested ‘colonic irrigation’ of which I never thought, and these helped me.
“On the other hand, I have had very little faith in the battery. Somehow, this doesn’t seem to click. If I could feel a current, maybe I wouldn’t be so skeptical, and maybe it has helped me at times, but if I haven’t felt any help, then neither the spirit or the physical being have been satisfied.
“That is that.
“Now, scout, since I haven’t been feeling myself, since it appears that the weather is not altogether agreeable to me, and since the high pressure of work, typing, details, etc., places me in a quandary, I have a problem to solve.
“My mother resides in Cuba. She is getting old. I have been told that I did well in leaving Cuba, never going back, and at that I seem to have a lure, which may be just a temptation to go back there and reside there the rest of my life. Moreover when I would like to have my mother live with me now that she is getting older. When I go to Cuba, I win the admiration of friends, and I make them, but somehow ‘I don’t see the way clear’ and naturally lacking capital, and being always on my own hook, if I feel sick up North I just can’t work, and I don’t know, that I am going to be feeling better down in Cuba, but I wonder, should I go, should I move.
“Next to this, Florida possibly offers me a nearer contact, and Florida may offer me better surroundings, but I haven’t anything more than what I have up North, and would not want to make a change unless for the better.
“Then what would be a good business to go into, with whom, in what and where should I make my business contacts, to enable me to make a decent living? I have several agencies that I can well work from Cuba as from Florida, but that doesn’t mean that everything is going to be ‘as expected’ for years to come, and the problem on hand - is what does the future hold in store, and what should I do NOW to build a foundation of success?…”

Background
Background
B1. 10/1/35 [531]‘s letter to EC: ”…I was very much amused over the Bulletin which you issued, in which you referred to my case. [531-2 in 8/35 Bulletin, UNUSUAL INCIDENTS] I wanted to reply ere this but I have been in a quandary, - not precisely busy but with some sort of a feeling that has prevented my tackling the work as customary. Occasionally, I get a kind of sudden pain, like the rush of blood to the base of the brain. I would say that it appears to be a kind of nervous condition and is rather uncomfortable because it seems to cover the cerebro-spinal column or somewhere along there, just exactly what spot I can’t determine.
“I have been reading your request for Case and Doctor’s Reports, but candidly I haven’t had the opportunity. I have been going to Dr. Francis J. Smith, 4847 No. Broad Street. [J. Francis Smith, D.O., osteopathic neurologist. See Source File Key #2185 in re 11/39 article in PHYSICAL CULTURE entitled HANDS THAT HEAL, about the work of Dr. J. Francis Smith, with his wife Marion A. Dick, D.O., used in case 2185-3.] It is true that when I go there he gives me some relief but not of a permanent nature, while on the other hand I am frank enough to say that my visits to him have not been regular. He claims, however, that I am so tense, that only with chloroform would he be able to crack the spinal column. This leads me to believe that the muscles, nerves, and ganglia are so tight, which, coupled with the amount of work, has been the cause of these occasional and very distressing pains that come and go at the base of my brain.
“Last night I was reading your memorandum which came with the September Bulletin covering electrical appliances. If, in one of the readings, the circulation was all right, then I think I am using the wrong appliance. I received some months ago a so-called radio-active dry cell, to which was attached two anodes. At this time I am unable to state whether this battery is still working or not, because I have not felt any different, and further I do not feel any current and therefore I cannot tell. I must confess, however, I have sinned in not using the appliance continuously, yet it seems to me that if the circulation is all right the wet cell appliance should be the proper one.
“I paid a visit to my regular physician two or three days ago and he claims that the pain was merely muscular. Nevertheless, muscular or nervousness, I thought I would give you the ‘dope’ on it because, after all, I feel contented even though the cure does not seem to be there.
“It cannot be said that I am a hypochondriac (or what you may call it), because if you have something that bothers and distresses you there must be some way of controlling the cause. In any case, if anyone made the right diagnosis, it was you and I am therefore sending you this information for whatever decision you may make…”
