This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of December, 1930, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [543].

[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Dr. Gena Crews, Miss [543] and sister. Also Elsie Swindall [nurse].]

Time of Reading Cayce Hospital, 3:45 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. Virginia Beach, Va. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [543] - this we have had before. In MANY respects conditions are gradually on the improve, and will we [if we will] keep that as has been outlined in a consistent and persistent manner, keeping the eliminations above normal - so that the drosses created by any forces that use energy in body, either mental or physical, may be eliminated - changing the vibratory forces through those administrations as are given medicinally, either locally or general - and those of the manipulations as to make for better coordinations - the conditions will continue on the improve.

2. Would be well that even the eliminations through alimentary canal be through irrigations once to three times per month, that there may be no dross or auto-infection from the colon, or that the weight in colon does not produce irritation to the organs of the lower hepatic circulation, nor of the pelvis themselves.

3. The application occasionally of the violet ray, as for the QUIETING effect same will produce on the system, will be found to be beneficial. Not too long a period of treatment, but those centers particularly along the cerebro-spinal system as revert to the pelvis organs’ functioning; for remember, many of the administrations are creating an extra effluvia in these organs’ functioning, and capillary stimulation will make for beneficial effects; as also necessity of local applications for conditions as arise. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Would auto-suggestion be beneficial? (A) As to that as should be held, this has been given - and would be most beneficial, were this SINCERELY and SPIRITUALLY suggested. If it is to be just ROTE, don’t do it!

5. (Q) What causes pain under right shoulder and how can it be relieved? (A) This, that of the digestive system’s want, or call for digestion as passes through that portion of the system’s functioning where carbohydrates and fats are dissolved into blood stream, and ENTER under or over the right shoulder. In relieving this, ALTER the food values occasionally; that is, give those properties as will be NECESSARY to call into play the organs involved. Fats! No, it won’t make the body fat!

6. (Q) Is body responding properly to treatment? (A) It’s just been given!

7. (Q) Is body getting sufficient rest? (A) More rest won’t hurt it! Be more beneficial!

8. (Q) How often may sweets be eaten? (A) Once to twice a week.

9. (Q) How often may nuts be eaten? (A) Many of these are rather hard for those properties as are being taken to be assimilated WITH, and unless they are of the filbert or almond don’t eat them!

R1. 12/9/30 Father [1212]‘s letter: “The present arrangement is for [543] to come home for the Xmas holidays, leaving there about Dec. 19th, and it is her desire to remain about two weeks at home…my wife and I enjoyed our visit when we saw you in Sept. and hope to have the pleasure again. We want to assure you we appreciate your deep interest in [543], which has been so beneficial to her, believing that she will be restored to normal health under your guidance.”

R2. 1/21/31 Father [1212]‘s letter: I am writing you at the suggestion of my wife, in regard to Miss [543] and her condition. Her attacks or spells, are worse, more violent type, mostly convulsion type, with some moaning, and crying afterwards, frequently falling.

Inclined to be unusually constipated, though in addition to the Psylla & Lactodextin, as prescribed, she has to take a laxative every night.

Do you propose to send the medicine, that you had such faith in, that you received the morning my wife and daughter left the hospital?

Of course [543] would have returned under your directions between the second and third week, after leaving, but due to the changes in the hospital, we were wired for her not to return until advised, so far we have not been notified, we are therefore VERY ANXIOUS to try this new medicine, as we see no good results from those being taken now, and we are not satisfied with her condition.

R3. 1/29/31 EC wrote Messrs. Morton & Edwin Blumenthal asking what he should do about re-admitting Miss [543], and admitting new patients Mr. [4475] and Mrs. [4113]. “Mr. [1212], as you know, paid for their service while Miss [543] was at the hospital. I do not know anything of the circumstances of the other two people.” [See 254-51 Reports.]

R4. 1/29/31 Father [1212]‘s letter: I want to assure you that we so highly appreciate your interest in our behalf, & we regret so much that Cayce Hospital is not open so that Miss [543] could not return at time you suggested.

In regard to the new medicine, will say that last week, we recd. a bottle marked May Blossom, however Miss [543] noticed a difference in the taste, is this the new medicine that you referred to in your letter of Jany. 27th? As I understand, it is not necessary for the patient to be present when you give a reading, if this is the case, could you not name a date and hour for a reading for Miss [543], place at home in …, Va. hour to [be] named by you as well as date. One question we would want to ask particularly, that is would it be best for any operation, and what kind?

Miss [543] has not been so well, today she had a fall about 1:30 P.M. a minor attack this morning, yesterday she had about same attacks, at different hours, some days she feels fine, but as a whole is listless & no pep, or desire to be on the go. She takes two luminol tablets each day 1-1/2 grains each, besides her other medicines, while awaiting your valued reply, I am, Sincerely yours.

R5. 2/3/31 Father [1212]‘s letter:

Mr. Edgar Cayce. Cayce Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA.

My Dear Mr. Cayce:

Your letter of Feby. 2nd duly received & I thank you.

In accordance with your suggestion Miss [543] will be at her home Friday Feby. 6th. 1931 from 3 to 5 P.M. for your reading.

She desires to ask following Questions: “Should the medicine or treatment be changed in anyway? Would bodily exercise help? Would eating beef occasionally be detrimental to body? How often could Coacunut [Coconut] be eaten?

We feel that Miss [543] should be instructed not to eat Coconut, but she desired to ask this question.

In you reading we especially desire to ask if an operation would be beneficial, and the nature of the operation.

R9. 2/12/31 EC’s ltr. to Messrs. Morton and Edwin Blumenthal:

71 Broadway, New York City

Dear Morton and Edwin:-

I received your wire of the 5th, acquainting me with the fact that a letter would follow regarding the admittance of patients to the hospital. To date I have received no letter from you, and I am at a loss to know how to answer these requests. Today we are in receipt of a letter from Mrs. [532] of Richmond, who wants to make application for membership provided she can enter the hospital for treatment. I would appreciate it very much if you will acquaint me with the facts in regard to this matter, to prevent the embarrassment at present in trying to answer these requests from members - who, according to the law, have the privilege of entering the hospital.

[GD’s note: Evidently an explanatory letter was sent to Dr. Job Taylor, Ph.D., who had been asked to supervise winding up of the Ass’n & Cayce Hospital affairs, but EC did not receive a letter of explanation.]

R10. 2/13/31 Dr. Job Taylor’s letter, in part, to Edwin D. Blumenthal:

Happy is he who can say that his faith in the Master’s work is untarnished and strong as ever, though many conflicting things may assail him. In the vale of matter we cannot always understand, but we know beyond peradventure that “all things work together for good to those who love the Lord”.

The Master wills that we must temper transcendental revelation with practicality. We must use all the faculties on every plane, bringing them to one grand harmonious whole. In this way the Master’s work will go on in peace and loving kindness.

This is just a set back, so that future works will be built on the certain work of revelation as it will be embodied in practical affairs through reason and experience.

Then the material will unite with the spiritual to fulfil the Divine will. Through these combined channels greater light will be given to mankind and more abundant blessings to the work as in the vineyard.

May the blessings and peace of the Master rest upon all, giving joy, happiness and constructive achievement in the greater work.

R11. 2/24/31 See 1192-3 ltr. mentioning seeing Edwin Blumenthal and not speaking to him, because she was so upset over him closing the Cayce Hospital and forcing her to remove her son [758] as a patient.

R12. 3/25/31 Edwin Blumenthal’s letter to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, 115 - 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Edgar:-

I was, indeed, surprised at your letter asking what to tell some people regarding readings that apparently have not been given. What you are to tell them is a matter between yourself and those people. It would seem that at the time of the closing of the hospital all back readings should have been cared for, insomuch as for several months there was very little demand on your time from the hospital, so I, too, do not understand why the readings were not given. As I am asking you the same question as these people regarding their readings, it certainly seems to be a matter between you and those people.

In case you want it for your records, I am returning the letter you forwarded to me.
