GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body. You will answer the questions I may ask you regarding same.
-
EC: Now, we find there are conditions that may be corrected in the physical forces of this body, in that the general physical conditions may be bettered throughout. (Too much medicine about - it smells!)
-
In the disturbing conditions, we find there are specific conditions that cause the distress, while the EFFECTS of same have been attempted to be accounted for rather than that PRODUCING the conditions in the body.
-
These are the conditions as we find them with this body, [5499] we are speaking of. First:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this deficient in quantity and quality, yet this in itself is not the cause of conditions existent (that apparently come from improper elements in the blood), but RATHER are these from the improper distribution through the nerve system, that prevents the blood form functioning nominally through the lymphatic circulation. Hence the irritations that are seen in various portions of the body.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, then, we find the greater distresses as are produced in this body - the causes for conditions, whether those as are seen in the apparent condition of blood, or whether those of functioning of organs of the torso, or of the sensory system. While there are other conditions that LEND themselves TO the conditions existent, but that condition has been brought about more by the combination of these, than that to which many have attributed the conditions existent in the sensory system; for we find when there is distress caused in both the cerebro-spinal and sympathetic, and that there are those conditions LENDING themselves, these disturbances then multiply, becoming conditions that are caused in ANY portion of the body, whether the functioning of organs in the body or whether that as comes as reflexes to the sensory system. In the sensory system, we refer to that portion of the body wherein deflections - from the ganglia governing those portions of the body - show reflexes from both cerebro-spinal and sympathetic system; as are seen, for the eye, the ear, the nose, and the throat - ALL have their ganglia base in either the cervical or upper dorsal region, that communicate, as it were, directly to the sympathetic and cerebro-spinal ganglia. Hence when those conditions as arose in the body from outside influences, where first those conditions in the throat and bronchials gave trouble, then in the nose and nasal cavity, then in the sinus region - these gradually formed hindrances in proper elimination, building up in the mucus portions of these a form of lesion, or obstruction. Then when later the nerve system - by conditions existent in the lower portion of body - became overtaxing in the nerve reflexes, the lesions as formed in the upper dorsal and in the lower cervical brought multiplied distresses to eyes, ears and throat. Hence we have continual irritation to both the ear and to the eye, through that of the connection especially to the Eustachian Tube, and to the optic nerve itself. Only irritation to the optic nerve deadening, as it were, or causing dormant reaction to the aura of the active forces in the Eustachian reaction. Hence the dull thumping, roaring at first, then gradually (apparently) hardening, or less capable of hearing. These are, then, reflexes - not direct causes as exist, though the condition EXISTENT must be taken care of also; for there are those secretions being formed that create inflammation in and about the eye in its orbit, rather than to the nerve reflex.
-
Relieve, then, the pressure as is produced in the lower cervical and upper dorsal, by deep manipulation and correct adjustments osteopathically. Also clear the lesion in and about the Eustachian Tube proper, using as an inhalant to cleanse throat and to prevent accumulation of those forces thrown off and discharged there, as this:
To four (4) ounces of grain alcohol, add:
Eucalyptol…20 minims, Benzoin…5 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Creosote, Rectified…3 minims, Canadian Balsam…5 minims, Tolu in Solution…30 minims.
-
Keep this in container at least twice the size of the quantity. Keep glass stopper in the container. Shake before inhaling. Inhale through nostrils, then through the lung, or through the throat - see? at lest three to four times each day, preferably just before retiring and just after arising, and - if necessary - during the evening or night, inhale, that the spittum [sputum] as thrown off will be discharged properly.
-
For the condition in the eye, use that of the scraped Irish potato. Do not use the new potato; that is, use the potato of the year previous, and scrape same and lay over the eye of evenings, and cleanse same afterward with a weak solution of Boracic Acid.
-
The adjustments osteopathically should be given at least twice each week, and at least two treatments of the Eustachian Tube.
-
The diet - keep the body well sated or satisfied, yet do not over crowd, nor be thou lacking in keeping eliminations properly. We will find that the second glasses will be the better to use when these treatments are begun. Ready for questions. (After pause) We are through.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 3/29/28 EC sent the reading, referring her to Dr. Crutchfield in Miami: “He was suggested in a reading for a lady about a year ago in Miami, and he no doubt will understand just the character of treatments you are to have.”
R2. 4/22/28 Letter: ”…The reading received and just as soon as I could I went down to see Dr. Crutchfield. He read the reading, then examined me and found the trouble just as you said. I have had five treatments from him. He found my left ear in a very bad condition. A scab had formed on the drum. I had the prescription filled, but the man failed to put it in a large bottle, neither did he use a glass stopper. Whether he put in all that was called for I can’t say.
“I have been using the boric acid for my eyes. I did not understand the term ‘second glasses’ unless you meant the bifocal lens.
“I shall be glad to fill out the blank and send the other $10.00 just as soon as I can spare it. Besides I am going to ask you to send literature to some of my friends…”
R3. 5/4/28 EC’s letter: ”…As I understood about the ‘second glasses’, this meant the second fitting you had for glasses whether they were the bi-focal or not I can’t say. This you will no doubt know better than I can tell you…”
R4. 11/5/28 Letter: ”…Your highly appreciated letter announcing the dedicatory services [of the Cayce Hospital] received.
“I regret very much that I cannot be present, but it would be quite impossible for me to leave at this time. I trust that it will be in every way a success, and I expect to visit there some time, possibly next summer.
“If you will pardon me for mentioning this in reply to my invitation, I will tell you my condition. After being treated by Dr. Crutchfield, I took nine 20-minute treatments
- $3.00 a treatment - he looked into my ear and said there was a scab on the drum. He finally succeeded in removing it and it left the drum punctured. It had never given me any trouble before, but since then it has been paining me a great deal. With a little adjustment each time that was about all he did, and I couldn’t afford to keep going and getting no results. What would you advise doing? My ear causes my eyes to hurt me.
“Wishing the Association every success…”
R5. 7/14/30 Letter: ”…For some time I have been planning to write you for some information but have just neglected it.
“Several years ago you gave me a reading and I was very much pleased with the results, yet I do not believe your instructions were followed closely enough by the doctor that treated me and I’m sure I didn’t do quite as much as I should.
“I haven’t been feeling so good for some time and would like to know what it would cost me to have another reading to locate my trouble and treatment in your Hospital? I can’t do this now for, since I left home, the bank has closed with all my money in it and I’m up against it for awhile, but should the bank open and I could come, what would it cost me? I have consulted physicians but without results. Will you please let me hear from you at your earliest convenience?…”
R6. 9/13/30 Letter: ”…Everyone tells me my complaint is serious and I’m beginning to believe it, but I want to know the cause of it. Otherwise I am perfectly well…”
R7. 9/22/30 Letter: ”…Two doctors and others tell me I have neuritis in my right arm. Whatever it is, it is very painful and I can only use my arm in a certain position. One doctor says ‘it is caused from your tonsils’, and another says, ‘nothing wrong with your tonsils.’ I want to know where the trouble lies so I can correct the cause of it, without taking a lot of strong medicine that the doctors will prescribe, and upset my stomach which is in fine condition. In fact, I am perfectly well with the exception of my arm. I felt this last year about this time in my right shoulder.
“I’m expecting some advice from you and hope to be relieved of this soon…”
R8. 10/27/30 EC gave the second reading - 5499-2.
Background
Background
B1. 1/2/28 Letter: ”…I’ve been reading a pamphlet containing your testimonials. In them I notice that some give their complaints or symptoms while others do not. I would like to know if you would give me a reading and what are your charges? I can’t refrain from telling my reasons for wanting a reading. If you do not need it, please excuse me, for I do not exactly understand how you conduct the work. I’ve been wearing glasses for almost 20 years, and for the last five or six years it seems difficult to get glasses that are suitable. I had my eyes tested and fitted last June and the glasses have never been satisfactory and at present I have five pairs of glasses, none satisfactory.
“My left ear does not give me any trouble but I can’t hear so well. My breathing is poor, caused by some obstruction that seems to move from one side to another. When I was a child I stuck a wheat beard up my nose. In two or three weeks part of it worked out through the top of my nose and the other came out when I sneezed. When I was a child I had sore throat a great deal. It never gives me any trouble now, but my voice is very weak at times. I am a working woman and can’t afford to give away all my earnings without results. I shall be pleased to hear from you regarding my case, and if there is any more information I shall be glad to furnish it…”
