This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia beach, Va., this 19th day of January, 1928, in accordance with request made by his wife, Mrs. [639].

Born January 27, 1871, at the old New England mines at Marquette, Mich. Time of Reading 3:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Florida.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces, giving the conditions that are as personalties, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving the time, the place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development of the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity and that to which it may attain, and how.

2. EC: We have the entity and those relations as do appear in the influences as are manifested in the present earth’s plane, also those through the various experiences of the entity in the earth’s plane. These in portions are at an at-variance with each other, for we will find many high, many low conditions as are shown in the variations of the entity’s sojourn through the earth’s plane.

3. In entering the earth’s plane in the present experience we find one coming under the influence of Mercury, Neptune, Jupiter, Mars and Venus. Hence many variable conditions have been the experience through the present sojourn, irrespective of the will, and many have been the opportunities as apparently presented themselves when viewed from the purely material or earthly manner; yet in the application of the will towards the development of self from within we find much has been accomplished in this present experience.

Through the experience of this present entity, [550], we find there are many conditions as respecting one, influence through self and the influence of sojourns in the earth - as well as away from the earth - in various spheres - should be understood, that there may not be misunderstanding or misconstruction placed upon the various conditions under which the body labors or develops.

5. From the purely material this is of the earth earthy, just as of power, strength, nobility, and the forces accompanying same are of the Jupiterian influences. Those of the sensory forces are a portion of earth’s and Uranus and Neptune and Venus. Hence these may be magnified in the experience of an entity through the various phases of development, by the influences of the entity’s sojourn in either or these influences, or through the effect of the combined influences of each on a specific manifestation in the earth’s plane.

6. Remembering then, this is being viewed from the sensuousness of the physical and there may be elements of sensuousness of the ennobling power in the life as well as of material, for all the life IS one life - and the gift of the creative energy called God, and is a portion of that as the spirit that impels throughout in the action, and the will is that influence that man, as man, was given to make the various influences in experience compatible with - or at an at-variance with - the will, the spirit, of the creator.

7. In entrance then to the present earth’s plane of these conditions regarding this body, [550] known in this experience, we find:

8. One given to love that of travel and seeing new scenes, new experiences, new understandings. Seeking to delve into those mysteries of nature, of life, and also of those that are man made. Loving that of every form of motion. Hence misunderstood - even in self at times - as to why the mind loves and still abhors rhythm, power or motion in any form.

9. Some of these conditions as apply in the life have been towards weal and some of woe.

10. In the present attitude as reached by the body, or entity, as respecting many phases of the phenomena of life, the body has at LAST gained that percept of the various phases of the phenomena until there has been worked out in self’s own understanding a concept - and almost a consciousness - of what it’s all about! and this has been rather the satisfaction to the entity, for even this phase of motion has been a stumblingblock to self through many experiences. Hence we find in the experiences much development. Keep that well in the forefront of that to which the entity would build, for the material things do perish - only those that are of the spiritual are everlasting; yet as the tree falls so does it lie. In experience though does strength come, even as the resistances of the tree to the wind and the storm. Gain from the very elements, then, the strength to stand - and being in that of the life, stand with the loins girded, with the strength in righteousness - not of self, but of Him that gave life.

12. In the one before this we find in the period when there were wars in the land now known as England. The entity then among those who served under that leader called Bruce, and the entity gained and lost through that experience, and in the way of understanding was in the way of understanding was led astray through the desire of the flesh to accrue to self power and supplanting same with the service that was necessary to the best from within. In the name Odell [O’Dell?]. In the urge as is seen in the present, that of the love of history or of stories as pertain to valor and deeds of might in any sphere or plane.

13. In the one before this we find in that period when there was the division in the land now known as Persia. The entity then among those those defended the mighty one in earthly riches or in the Median peoples, and the entity the keeper of much of the treasure and storehouse of Medus [?] [Midas?], and the entity gained through this experience - even as service to others and the study made of the abilities of an entity to serve, even when in servitude. In the name Irandelo, and in the urge is seen - while this love of the coin or that of moneys is present, yet little abuse of same may be laid at the entity’s forces.

14. In the one before this in that land in the beginnings of the study of man’s relation to the Creator. The entity then among those who wrought in metals Genesis 4:22?] and in the various forms of weapons, chariots, and of silver and of gold. The entity then in the name Ishod. The entity then gained through the first portion of the life, losing in the central, and making up some in the latter; yet allowing women and power to bring such in the inner self as to have had to fight the urge of these forces through many or all of the appearances in the earth’s plane.

15. In the abilities - we find now the entity having reached that period of understanding in the way of the phenomena of life, may gain more through the study and dissemination of that knowledge toward development. In the material sense in that of the sale of any condition pertaining to gold, silver or metal, will bring much success in FINANCIAL or material way to the body. In the entity - or the mental and eternal body - BUILD; for in same is that necessary for the meeting and making self One with that creative force giving life, light, and immortality to the being.

THE ASSOCIATION OF NATIONAL INVESTIGATORS, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia

Mr. [550] …, Fla.

Dear Sir:

Receiving no response to our previous communications we, the committee, are wondering if you have read and given thought to the monthly circulars and letters describing the progress of our New Hospital Building.

Our hospital, an incorporated institution under the laws of the state of Virginia, will contain the fullest and most modern equipment that authorative experts could select. There will be private, semi-private and ward rooms where all, regardless of creed or color, will receive the expert attention of a staff competent and complete in every branch of medical science and under the personal direction of that great Psychical Diagnostician, Mr. Edgar Cayce. In addition to this we will have a complete X-Ray and therapeutic room.

The entire cost of this institution thusfar, has been borne by the Board of Directors who now ask their fellow members to come to their aid. Today our membership list is over two hundred. An additional ten thousand dollars is needed to complete the furnishing of the hospital. Wherefore we are asking each one of our members to pledge $50.00 to this worthy cause, to be paid at convenience between now and the opening of the hospital, about October 1st. Donations of complete rooms have already been made by non-members who are desirous of helping to further this philanthropic work. When may we expect to hear from you?

This is not a circular letter but one intended for our members only. TO WHOM ELSE CAN WE LOOK FOR HELP?

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I am sending a reply to this letter [Par. R1 above] to you. I regret to have to advise you that our financial condition caused by the Florida boom has not been relieved. Property that we sold is having to come back to us through foreclosure and not receiving the payments when due has cramped us so we are unable yet to do anything outside of a living and no business as yet in my husband’s line. We haven’t been able to get away this summer. We had hoped that we might have an Auto trip up to Virginia Beach, but that will have to be put off longer too. We are very muchly interested in all your work there and hope to be able to lend you a little assistance financially later on.

We are all hoping another year will see Florida recovered and all settled on a sound basis and growing once more. The state is building a fine new concrete bridge across our river

Am sorry it has been impossible so far for both Mrs. [639] and myself to make a visit to Virginia Beach, however, finances due to general conditions and especially to real estate values in Florida has prevented me from making any trips out of the state for several years. We hope some time to come to Virginia Beach and spend a few days there.
