This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 18th day of August, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [5609], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and H. L. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body and those conditions that surround the body, [5609] - this we have had before.
-
Through those of a sympathetic nature there have arisen in the physical forces of the body conditions that are outwardly very aggravating.
-
We would alter for the time being, at least, those treatments that have been applied for the body, and we will find that those conditions which have recently been disturbing the body will disappear.
-
This would not take a great period of treatment, but should rather be - for the first week, or two weeks, every other day - the general osteopathic treatment, with special reference to those impulses to the sensory and auditory forces of the body; not as specialized, but as special treatments for those conditions that receive their impulses in the 3rd and 4th dorsal and the 3rd and 4th cervical area.
-
After the two weeks treatments, then the general treatment once a week for three to four weeks following should bring a much more normal condition for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What started and what is causing my head noises? (A) Sympathetic reaction from conditions that have been worrying the body. Some in reference to the treatments that were received, under the stressing of the treatments WITH that received in the gym, and some with those as outside influences. These, then, are secondary natures, and with the general adjustments osteopathically - not through Reilly’s methods, but the OSTEOPATHIC - these, as we find, would disappear.
-
(Q) Can Dr. Leigh F. Sturges of 121 E. 60th Street do this for me? (A) If he applies the general osteopathic adjustment and manipulation, he can!
-
(Q) Shall I have an operation on my nose to straighten bone and improve breathing? If so, in what manner? (A) As has been given, a minor operation would improve the condition - but, will there be the proper treatments, these should be absorbed. First have these, and then if this does not absorb - through the general treatment osteopathically given - we would have the operation.
-
(Q) Shall I have tonsils removed? (A) First do the treating in the line that we have outlined. Then if necessary have them removed. The osteopathic method of operation is better than those of some others.
-
(Q) How are arches? Will they require more frequent treatments with the same formula? (A) Not require more treatments, if these are done properly when the general treatments are given.
-
(Q) Are Reilly’s cervical adjustments detrimental to head noise condition? (A) We would leave off Reilly’s treatments altogether.
-
(Q) What is causing pains in stomach, and nausea? How can I remedy this? (A) Be more mindful of the digestive system, under the heat strains that have caused or brought about most of the conditions.
-
(Q) Why the tired feeling even upon arising in the morning? (A) Those pressures and those worries that have been the activities of the body produce more poisons than are eliminated. Hence the tiredness that comes to the system. With the upsetting of the stomach, these have also produced poisons in the system.
-
(Q) Is colitis condition much better since last reading? (A) The causes are much better. The effects in the present show that these have been irritated by the upsetting of the conditions, by the diets, which has produced disorders in the stomach.
-
(Q) How soon may I expect a complete cure? (A) Set the time for self, then do the things necessary to bring them about! and then expect to be well! How soon will he do these? and then we may find how soon he may expect to be well!
-
(Q) Please outline the treatments the Forces wish me to take for colitis condition.
(A) As these are to be changed entirely to those treatments of the general osteopathic, we would follow those with the use of the irrigation occasionally to remove all forms of the fecal matter with the mucous produced, keeping the system cleansed, and these will relieve all these conditions and produce normalcy there.
-
(Q) Will one irrigation and one sweat each month be sufficient, with manipulations? (A) Be sufficient, if these are given properly.
-
(Q) Should sitz bath over a week for one month, then rest one month? (A) Discontinue these. Follow the treatments more along the line of the general osteopathic.
-
(Q) Shall I continue psyllium seed three times a week? (A) These are well to keep the even balance, until all are cleansed.
-
(Q) Shall I continue any exercises? If so, which? (A) Keep those exercises that may be outlined WITH those treatments that will be given through the general osteopathic, after the first two weeks of these general or specific treatments.
-
(Q) Are there any foods which should be added to diet or omitted? (A) If these are followed along the lines that have been outlined, these should not only be sufficient but should be kept ALL in a general line as has been given.
-
(Q) Are there any further suggestions the Forces can make for this body? (A) Keep in those lines that are given here, in the changes - and KNOW that these will bring about the proper conditions, if they will be adhered to properly.
-
We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 8/23/32 Letter: ”…In some instances the reading is readily understood by me, in others it is quite vague and undoubtedly would be difficult for the new osteopath, whom I must now seek, to treat me in accordance with the instructions.
“Dr. Leigh F. Sturges is a surgeon, and not an osteopath. My reason for asking the question was whether it would be advisable to have a surgical operation on nose and tonsils to help the ear condition, as this doctor had stated that my nose condition might cause ear noises.
“You state that a minor operation might improve the condition of the nose but with the proper osteopathic treatments this should be absorbed; first have them and then if this does not absorb through the general treatment osteopathically, have the operation. The question is, how long will I have to take the osteopathic treatments to get the results that I desire and possibly with the surgical operation I might have immediate results; then on the other hand, it would be quite disappointing and costly to take long osteopathic treatments and then have to resort to a surgical operation and the same applies to the tonsils. Would you please elaborate on question and answer 10 [5609-6, Par. 16-A]. When you refer to my taking the general osteopathic treatments, are you taking into consideration my history. If I go to an osteopath, I would unquestionably have to have an irrigation and sweat at Reilly’s. Now, how would I get the manipulations? In question and answer 1 [5609-6, Par. 7-A] you refer that the conditions have brought about this aggravating trouble and then relate to this a secondary nature. Well then, please explain to me what is the first cause or give me a more explicit outline of your interpretation.
“Is it possible for you to recommend a good osteopathic doctor in New York who is reasonable to treat me and my special condition, and is the reading sufficiently specific to permit a man not familiar with the readings to grasp what is necessary to be treated in the sensory system, so that his treatments will not further aggravate it. I would like to get busy to get rid of this new irregularity that is more discouraging than the colitis condition…”
R2. 8/24/32 EC’s letter:
My dear Mr. [5609]:
I have yours of the 23rd. It is too bad there was such a delay in your receiving the reading. The mail at times here is slow getting away from the Beach, and we have no way to overcome this inconvenience. I have made inquiries about your first letter, but they claim it was not received at this office. I suppose the reading arrived in New York on Saturday but was not delivered until Sunday.
It is quite evident, if the reading is to be considered, that some treatments have been given by Reilly that were not in line with that suggested for him, and they have been detrimental.
As to whether it would be better to have the nose operation at once or not is for you to decide. Inasmuch as it is spoken of as a minor operation, and you are desirous that this be as immediate as possible, no doubt it would be very much better to have it done.
I do not know any osteopath offhand to whom I would like to refer you. Dr. Ted Berger, of 77 Park Avenue, knows the work fairly well - you might talk with him about it. I feel that you would find him rather in sympathy with the readings, and he is certainly quite a capable man. You no doubt could make satisfactory arrangements with him as to price. There is also a Dr. Daley who is an M.D. and an osteopath. However, I am of the opinion that his office is in Brooklyn. There is also a Dr. Eugene Krauss, whose office used to be on Broadway, but I am of the opinion that his prices would be too high. I think he charges about $10 for each treatment.
If the doctor applies the treatments properly, it has already been outlined as to how long it should take to make the correction. If you set the time, and the doctor sets the time, and there is builded in your whole system and mind that it should be corrected, you will no doubt see the results in that time. The osteopath should be able to give the irrigations, as most osteopaths do. The sweats may be taken at a Turkish bath, and you need not go back to Reilly’s at all, for at a Turkish bath you get a Swedish massage which is a general manipulation. As these are to be taken only about once a month, it should be easy for you to handle. Where the reference is to the aggravating of the condition, I think it refers to Reilly’s treatments; consequently the suggestion that you discontinue his treatments. Sometimes, where theses have been suggested, even among the best physicians, according to the readings and according to the conditions that arise with individuals, they get over-anxious or are desirous of keeping the patient as long as possible - and know more about it than the readings do themselves; consequently, they bring about harmful conditions rather than helpful. I believe you would find that Berger would work very well with the readings, as I am sure he is aware that if the readings check up on him they will tell him when he does the work right and when he doesn’t. I’m asking Miss Gladys to make another copy, and when you go to see Dr. Berger - if he is the one you choose - if there are any special questions he would like to have asked, why it would be very well for you to include those also. If you have the operation, however, I would advise that you not begin the osteopath treatments until after that condition has cleared up entirely.
