This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of August, 1926, in accordance with request made by self - Dr. [5618].

1. GC: You will give the relation of this entity and the Universe, and the Universal Forces, giving the conditions that are as personalities, latent and exhibited, in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth’s plane, giving time, place, and the name, and that in that life which built or retarded the development for the entity, giving the abilities of the present entity and to that which it may attain, and how.

2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here, and those relations with the Universe and Universal Forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present earth’s plane.

3. In taking the position in the present earth’s plane, we find the entity coming under the influence of Jupiter, Mercury, and of Neptune, with those influences from Venus and Uranus. Hence we find, irrespective of will forces, these influences in the present life, and many of these urges are seen as latent, as well as the influences in the urge from the experiences in the earth’s plane.

4. One, then, given to ever do good to others.

5. One that always prefers others before self.

6. One that has the high ennobling influence on the life of others.

7. One given to good works toward others.

8. One that finds the greater conditions in life being in that of being of help and assistance to others.

9. High minded to a fault.

10. One that loves to see the greater influence of good in the lives of those whom the entity contacts, disliking any little, mean, petty, conditions.

11. One given to the love of games, of sports, of any condition requiring the mental abilities of the individual.

12. One that, with the will forces applied in the life, brings such conditions to others.

13. Without the application of will’s force within self, gives that impression of the opposite conditions in own life, with the responding effect to those dependent upon the entity.

14. One that will find that in the giving of the opportunity to express individuality would go far in giving others the opportunity of manifesting the expression of love.

15. As to the influences as are seen, irrespective of the will as applied in the present existence:

16. One that has often, under the influence of the Pisces, brought to self those of the eccentric forces as not understood by others, reaping same in self’s action as the aggrandizement of the weaknesses in the flesh.

17. One that will find that the application of those influences in Jupiter and in Uranus will, in the present year, near the date October 21st, bring the greatest opportunities for good in the present existence, will the entity apply will forces in carrying out that as is presented at that time, for near then we find Uranus and Jupiter in the square to each other, and there will be exceptional conditions in the earth’s plane through the influence of that in the lives of those in the earth plane whose sojourn has been in Jupiter and Uranus. Uranus, then being in the square to Jupiter, brings both the exceptional GOOD and the abilities to apply same. Take advantage of same!

18. In that of the appearances, we find as these, for their influences in the present existence brings much of those of urges and influences in the present existence:

In the one before this we find the entity then in power, in the rule as in that known as France, and in that as of the entity then known as Louis 16th, and the entity gained through the oppression to the entity and those about same, losing in that of the ability to apply OWN will with reference to good of others. Hence we see the two combating influences in the present as an urge. One that loves those of the intrinsic conditions as respecting detail in any mechanical devices, and the entity would have made a wonderful clock repairer, or clocksmith. The entity finds also that urge as pertains to those of medicine, and of mechano-therapy, as was first given then by this entity during the sojourn in the earth’s plane.

20. In the one before this we find in that of the entity Romulus, who assisted in the building of that now known as Rome, and the entity lost and gained in that period, for in the labors there came success, and in success came self-aggrandizement, which gave to the entity that of the oppression to others. In the present urge we find the entity not able to countenance, stand, or bear, oppression in any manner or form, whether in the animal, mineral or vegetable kingdom.

21. In the one before this we find in the days when the building of the city that will soon be discovered in the plains of Araby. The entity then in the name Obdieugoan, and the entity gained in that period for the service to the peoples in that plane, in the assistance given to suffering in body and in mind, for those were those conditions that, in the present urge, gave to the entity (as in the dream which came to the entity in the present plane) that of the application of self to that of medicine for the afflicted, and as same was builded in the mental, so came the expression in applying same, so would be found that as of expressing same through the continuation of same.

22. In the one before this we find in that land when the Tower was being builded to the heavens. The entity then among those who labored in that as of the building in that of the mental, rather than of the physical, for then, as the leader, the entity gave that of the help to those who labored, in giving that as to WHY the building was being made. Then in the name Ouiael, and the entity gained in that experience in the efforts of the help to those peoples, yet was submerged through those who rose as chiefs above same. In the urge as is seen, the desire to see many of the casts of ideas expressed in forms of material nature, and the study of same is ever interesting to the entity. Hence we find the entity would have made a good sculptor.

23. In the one before this we find in those days when the division came in that land known as the Egyptian. The entity then in that position as the counsellor to the council, and as the sage to those who would bring together those of the stores for the preservation of the lives of those dependent upon the peoples, as the ruler saw fit. Hence we find, under the entity’s rule or guidance, first there came into the land that as of a place of succor for the unfortunate, in mind, body, or purse. In the name Didois, and the rule brought much troubles to the entity, for neither could claim the entity as siding with church or state. In that urge is seen that through which the entity may accomplish in the present earth’s plane, in bringing together those who labored in that plane, and build again that which would be succor, aid and strength in mind, body, and in the Spirit build to the Giver of all good and perfect gifts, for in the accomplishment of good self must first be conquered and put in submission to the Will of the Giver, the Omnipotent Force as is manifested through the various phases of those experiences through which the entity has reached, does reach, will reach, that plane in which the Oneness in Him is made One with Him, the ALL.

24. Then, apply self in THAT direction, for in Him is the Light, and the Light is the Light of the World, for the giving of self in service is lending to the Maker.

R1. 8/10/26 EC wrote Mr. [195]: “I believe you will find the enclosed rdg. [of Dr. [5618]] interesting, inasmuch as it comes again into one of our very important appearances in the affairs of the old world, and possibly may be just as important in the affairs of the present day world. I am sure of one thing: Should this association come about, as is possible for it to do [re-association of Old Egyptians?], and such data kept for three generations from now, every individual would be looked on as almost superhuman.”

R2. 8/14/26 Mr. [195] wrote: “The more one reads the different Life Rdgs. the deeper the thoughts become, and the questions of the various cosmic forces come to one’s thoughts.”

We find this entity having five appearances, and although these are divergent as to time, place, and position, yet all tend toward the same general goal, the service to mankind through the application of the physical and mental abilities of the entity. There has been more loss than gain, and the loss has been in the way of teaching, for in this returning the entity chose that mold which would not present the temptations which before proved his downfall. A well-rounded individual has resulted, one with a fixed ideal and purpose, and the ideal and purpose the highest possible, for it calls for the sacrifice of self for the betterment of mankind. There are many contacts, many friends; few enemies, few losses.

FIRST APPEARANCE - EGYPT

“The wages of age is the wisdom of love.”

“Didois, counsellor to council, Sage to those who would bring together stories for preservation of lives of those dependent upon the peoples, as ruler saw fit. Under entity’s guidance, first there came into the land the place of succor for the unfortunate of mind, body, or purse. The rule brought much troubles to the entity, for neither party could claim the entity as siding with church or state. Present urge should be bringing together again those who labored in that plane, and build again that which would be succor, aid and strength in mind, body, and in the spirit build to Giver of all good and perfect gifts; for in accomplishment of good self must first be conquered and put in submission to will of the Giver, the omnipotent force manifested through the various phases of experiences through which entity has reached, does reach, will reach, that plane in which the oneness in Him is made One with him, the All.” [Life Reading of Dr. [5618]]

Here is the ideal, and lesson, for this entity. Now he is in almost the same position, though with less power, and a harder job on his hands. From this comes the urge of service, of medicine, and the ability to keep the warring factions in harmony. Yet in trying to do this, in being a neutral and siding with both sides, the entity will get censure from both, rebuke from both, and little praise from either. Then this, it would seem, in the cross to be carried. For service and sacrifice are burdens, and many that need help resent the assistance offered. Keep the ideal clear and the temper calm, and remember that no matter what the others do, or say, or think; this entity is winning his own salvation and advancement, as the Master before him.

In this period there gathered together in the great dynasty the same individuals now together in the Association. Then, as now, there is the pulling between the two sides, with the entity as a lover, bearing much of the strain. Eventually they will understand, in the meantime they must be kept co-operative, and here is where the entity bears pain and burden, for the blindness of others.

SECOND APPEARANCE - BABYLON

“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said to one another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto Heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.”

“Ouiael, among those laboring in the building of the Tower to the heavens, building in mental rather than physical, being the leader and giving help to those who labored, in giving as to WHY the building was being made. Gained in efforts to help people, yet submerged through those rising as chiefs above same. Present desire to see many casts of ideas expressed in forms of material nature, and the study of same is ever interesting to the entity. Here again is that urge to serve the people, and an experience that seems liable to be duplicated again, the submerging of the entity through the rising of chiefs of those people. Use the fortitude of magnanimity, the ethics and ideals of the medical profession, and the understanding of self’s purpose to know why this is unimportant now. From this know, as you do, that God cannot be attained by physical effort or material building, but by mental and spiritual laboring.

There were no contacts in this period at all, none of the present associates, or any who have had life readings, being in this period. It is an individual experience which brings an urge and understanding to the entity which helps him rise above the pettiness many others have not outgrown.

THIRD APPEARANCE - ARABIA

“Verily, Verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he so also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” - John, Ch. 14:12.

“Obdieugoan, in the days of building of the city which will soon be discovered on the plains of Araby. Gained in service in assistance to suffering in mind and body. These were conditions that give the present urge (as in the dream that came to entity) toward the application of self to medicine for the afflicted. This builded in the mental, and so came the expression in applying same, as would be found that of expressing same through the continuation of same.” [Life Reading of Dr. [5618]]

Here is the crystallizing of the urge for service to others, in the definite form of an ability and desire for medicine. These first three periods form the basis of the entity’s life and actions in the present, and it is to those that he must look for inspiration and comfort. There were no contacts here either, and again the entity developed in an individual way towards his goal.

FOURTH APPEARANCE - ROME

“Rome was not built in a day, The Kingdom of God cannot be won in a lifetime.”

“Romulus, who assisted in the building of that now known as Rome. Gained and lost; for in the labors came success, and in success came self-aggrandizement, which gave to the entity that of the oppression to others. Present urge, not able to countenance, stand, or bear, oppression in any manner of form, whether in animal, mineral, or vegetable kingdom.”

(Romulus, the mythical king and founder of Rome. His mother was the Vestal Virgin Sylvia or Ilia, daughter of Numitor, King of Alba. By the God Mars she became the mother of the twin boys Romulus and Remus, who were ordered by Amulius, the usurping brother of Numitor, to be thrown into the Anie. The basket containing the two boys was stranded beneath a fig-tree at the foot of the Palatine Hill, and they were sukled by a she-wolf and fed by a wood-pecker, until they were accidently found by Faustulus, the king’s herdsman, who took them home and educated them. When they grew up they organized a band of enterprising comrades, by whose help they deposed Amulius and reinstated Numitor to his throne. They next resolved to found a city, but as they disagreed as to the site they resolved to consult their omens. The decision was in favor of Romulus, who immediately began to raise the walls. This is said to have happened in the year 753 B.C. Remus, who resented his defeat, leaped over the walls in scorn, whereupon Romulus slew him. Romulus soon attracted a considerable number of men to his new city by making it a place of refuge for every outlaw or broken man, but women were still wanting. He therefore invited the Sabines with their wives and daughters to a religious festival, and in the midst of the festivities he and his followers suddenly attacked the unarmed guests and carried off the women to the new city. This led to a war, which was, however, ended at the entreaties of the Sabine women, and the two states coalesced.

Romulus is said finally to have miraculously disappeared in a thunderstorm.)

The urge from this appearance is good, despite the loss through misuse of power. The urge of rebelling against oppression of anyone works in with the spirit of sacrifice and the desire to assist the weak and unhealthy. The entity has not chosen the power this time, so it cannot be misused. There were no contacts then with people now associated.

FIFTH APPEARANCE - FRANCE

“Not this man, but Barabbas!” “Le Roi ext mort, Vive le Roi!”

“Louis 16th, gained through oppression to entity and those about same; losing in ability to apply own will with reference to good of others. Hence two combating influences in present as an urge. Loves intrinsic conditions respecting detail in any mechanical device, and would have made a wonderful clock-repairer or clocksmith. Also urge pertaining to medicine, and of mechano-therapy, as was first given then by this entity during the sojourn in the earth’s plane.” [Life Reading of Dr. [5618]]

(Louis 16th (1754-93), grandson of Louis 15th, was left with the legacy of Louis 15th’s misgovernment. On coming to the throne in 1774, his first act was to appoint a reforming ministry, containing Malesherbee Vergennes and the great Turgot. For less than two years Turgot was allowed to work at his scheme of reform, the adoption of which might have averted the revolution; but he was overthrown through the opposition of the queen, Marie Antoinette. Turgot was succeeded by Necker, Galonne, and Lomenie de Brienne, but no further attempts at a thorough reform were undertaken. In 1778 France entered the war between England and her colonies, and helped immeasurably in the victory of the Thirteen States. In 1791 Louis adopted a new constitution, but by that time he was so far alienated from the government of the day that he looked for foreign intervention as the only salvation. This provoked the invasion of the Tuilleries on June 20, 1792, and the storming of that palace on August 10th. The monarchy was immediately afterward suspended, the king was brought to trial, found guilty of a conspiracy against the nation, and guillotined on Jan. 21, 1793. Louis was weak, stupid, well-meaning man, utterly unsuited by his lethargy and want of dignity, to rule over the French, who love of all else a “Roi a Cheval.”)

“Consider the lilies of the field, they toil not neither do they spin, yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as one of these.”

Marie Antoinette, (1753-93), queen of France and wife of Louis 16th, was the daughter of Francis I and Maria Theresa, being born at Vienna on Nov. 2, the day of the Lisbon earthquake. Her influence over Louis 16th was great but profitless; she thwarted him in his wish to reform, and urged him to absolutism. She was blamed for the extravagance of her predecessors as well as her own. Disliked by the courtiers, hated for her favors to the Princess Lamballe (whose head was flourished by her prison window) and the Duches de Polignac, held responsible for dismissing Turgot and Necker and surmonding Lomenie de Brienne and Calonne to office, basely beemirched in reputation and stung at heart by the affair of the diamond necklace (1785), she by her unpopularity helped to ruin the royal house. Still she faced the mob of women at Versailles (Oct. 5 and 6) with splendid courage; and after the flight to Verennes (1791) she accompanied Louis to the Assembly, and later to the Temple, where her fortitude and patience equalized her previous bravery. Accused before the revolutionary tribunal of intriguing with the enemies of France and stirring up civil war, she was condemned and executed (Oct. 16, 1793). This entity is now Mrs. [760].

Thus we come to the end of the entity’s appearances before this one of the present. In this French period there was the gain of being oppressed, and suffering much, and the loss of not asserting the will. Now in the present there will be the same oppression, or rather the rebuking and finding fault at times, and the same reticence about pushing the self forward and asserting the power and ideas. Do not do this too obtrusively, but very quietly show a firmness and a tenacity for what you know is right, and let no one persuade or bully you from that position. The entity Mrs. [760] was a bad influence in that period, now her influence is good, and her ideas and ideals fine, but the entity will feel the urge that they are not exactly tact at times; and fear the results of her actions and efforts. Due to the death of both, and the death of the young son, who is now [1005], these three find themselves very closely attached to one another, and able to work in wonderful harmony and for a great and good purpose. The ideal is here, in the work, and in it will the combination of these three find the greatest advancement toward that oneness with God which is the ultimate goal of all. [1005] is more than a son, having been lost once, and now help him to find his way in the world, and fill that niche for which he is fitted.

As to the relationships then:-

Those in Egypt are all in a friendly way, both sides looking to the entity for support and help. Keep between, and try to draw them together.

Morton Blumenthal was in Egypt on the side of the king as chief scribe and interpreter. His urge is friendly, like all the rest.

Thomas B. Brown, and every member of the Board appearing in Egypt at that time met the entity there, and has a good urge. Edwin Blumenthal was not met in Egypt, nor was Lucille Kahn, and these two meet the entity for the first time in this life.

Except for the Egyptian and French periods there were no contacts with any of the Association, and in France only with those of the entity’s immediate family.

So it seems the entity is fortunate in a way - having no antagonistic urges from any members for himself or his family - yet unfortunate in that he lies in between, and is subject to the bickerings of both sides. Try to help them together.

[165], [953] and [195] might be considered as one side being egoists incapable of compromising on any but their OWN plans. [165] does not understand, [953] hates Jews, and [195] loves himself too much. [257] has three negative urges

• misrepresentation, exaggeration, and holding the best of himself aloof. The wives of these men act as they do, and to [136] falls the lot of subconsciously trying to keep [900] from too deep an interest in the work. [137] and [900] and [195] are the power and the right idea. The rest are to be listened to politely, and disregarded, for the present.

Keep the ideal - the temper - the love - the idea. With the immediate family accomplish the work, and for the rest, bear thy cross and let them go their way. For - IN HIM IS THE LIGHT AND THE LIGHT IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD -

IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE ARE MANY MANSIONS, AND I GO TO PREPARE THE WAY.
