This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of April, 1938, in accordance with request made by the Manager and the President of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., Messrs. Hugh Lynn Cayce and David E. Kahn; this Reading being Sponsored by Mr. Kahn - through his Active Membership in the Association.

Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern Standard Time.

1. GC: You will have before you the situation which has arisen with the request of Murray Levine of 11 Slocum St., New Rochelle, N.Y., as presented through David E. Kahn and Hugh Lynn Cayce, for information through this channel Edgar Cayce regarding his son Peter David Levine, who was last seen leaving the Albert Leonard Junior High School, New Rochelle, N.Y., about 3:30 P.M., on February 24, 1938.

You will tell us at this time if information of a helpful nature may be given through this channel and if so, just what approach should be made in subsequent readings to obtain the best possible results. If information of this kind will in any way be detrimental to this channel Edgar Cayce, you will tell us, and explain.

You will answer the questions which will be asked:

2. EC: In considering such conditions, as has been indicated, there should be considered all phases and the purposes of the Work - and that to which it has been given and in Whom it is entrusted, as well as the experiences in the attempts to follow such characters of information and the physical results that have been the experience of the body Edgar Cayce.

3. These should be studied by those who are so sympathetically interested and are truly desirous of bringing help and comfort to a distraught parent; owing to the circumstances and the dead ends apparently that have been the attempts to communicate or to gain a knowledge of the son.

4. But consider also those experiences of the entity through whom ye seek such information. Not that information may not be given. As to whether it would be helpful or distracting or greater disturbing would still remain a question.

5. Again, consider the experiences in the past. What is that thin veil between the sublime and the ridiculous? What have been the experiences concerning those things that have become stumblingblocks in the channel Edgar Cayce, regarding sex or associations or questionable companions or the like? These have ever followed the delving into the material affairs of individuals in which the associations were involved in things that partook only of the gratifying of material and secular desires.

6. Ye would not use a delicate object, even as a razor, for sharpening pencils! Ye would not give thy diamonds to children, nor cast thy pearls to swine!

7. Then, the judgment is to be upon those who are involved in the situations and the circumstance that has arisen in the associations.

8. This is not a condition that is out of the ordinary, but the work of a pervert. Hence it becomes all the more a question as to what the decisions are to be in same; all the more questionable to undertake such.

9. As indicated, then, considering all of these, the judgments as to whether or not it is to be undertaken rest with Hugh Lynn and David E. Kahn.

10. We are through for the present.

R1. 4/12/38 HLC’s letter: “I have spent hours with the father getting a background on the whole matter and was very much moved, naturally. I hope that no fear on your part has involved the last reading, as it is quite involved. As you know I believe that prayer in such matters can be a perfect protection, but I certainly would do nothing that I felt would in any way injure you, Dad. Do you feel that a Life Reading on the boy would be involving the difficulties indicated? Date 2/2/26, N.Y.C.”

R2. 4/14/38 EC replied: “I have felt and told the father (as I talked with him) I didn’t think that we could do anything. Told Dave that. To me the reading verified that, whether mentally builded or not I can’t say, but when pointed out to me in the reading - I realize, though, to some minds it may be only an excuse on my part, but it becomes a very definite thing, like thoughts being things and the like. Possibly I’m all wrong, and would try the Life Reading if you think well, though under the circumstances I do not think anything given would bring other than confusion.”

R3. 5/29/38 Body was found, flesh decomposed, floating in L.I. waters. See Daily Mirror 5/30/38. Indications were that the boy had suffered a long and cruel captivity. Fragments of heavy baling wire were wrapped about the right arm. Although the father had the ransom money ready and waiting, immunity was promised the kidnaper by the authorities, but no contact was made. Everything seemed to bear out the reading’s statement that it was the work of a “pervert”.

R4. GD’s note: In February 1950 the Edgar Cayce Foundation was being sued by Comet Press in N.Y.C. for payment of several hundred dollars, a printing bill for “A Sequel to the Story of Edgar Cayce”, which was used in trying to raise money during the Edgar Cayce Foundation campaign for funds to get the Edgar Cayce readings microfilmed. The campaign was unsuccessful and we were left with hundreds of copies of the booklet still stored with Comet Press.

R5. 3/15/50 Murray Berman’s letter to HLC:

Dear Sir:

We were quite surprised not to have received any response from you to our letter dated February 23, 1950.

There is a balance of $400. still due on your account and we would appreciate an answer from you promptly as to how you intend to liquidate the same.

Unless we hear from you shortly, we shall have no recourse but to forward the matter to our local counsel.

R6. 3/22/50 HL from GD:

HL, I mailed the $50 to Comet Press. In checking the lawyer’s correspondence, when I sent him a copy of the letter to Comet, I noticed the name of Murray Levine and it rang a bell. Remember the kidnapping case? One and the same! I looked it up. Isn’t that a peculiar coincidence?!?

R7. 4/20/50 HLC’s letter to Murray Levine:

Mr. Murray Levine Levine & Berman 551 Fifth Avenue New York 17, N.Y.

Dear Mr. Levine:-

We have been having some correspondence with your partner, Mr. Berman, with regard to an account we owe one of your clients, The Comet Press, Inc.

I ran into some hard luck on my New York fund raising campaign, for which The Comet Press printed a brochure.

As I wrote Mr. Berman, we will take care of this account just as rapidly as possible and are certainly not trying to avoid it in any manner, having gradually brought it down from 750 to 300 at present.

I remember so well meeting and talking with you when my father was attempting to help you during the tragedy with your son.

It will be greatly appreciated if you will assure Mr. Berman at least of my personal integrity.

My dear Mr. Cayce:

I have yours of April 20.

I recall you gratefully as one who tried to help me when I needed help.

I have spoken to Mr. Berman about you and his rejoinder was that he never had any doubt about your personal integrity. He is hopeful, however, that you will be able to reduce the indebtedness to The Comet Press, Inc. more rapidly as he is being subjected to pressure from the credit office of the client.

I know you will do your best,

R9. GD’s note: E.C.F. finally paid off the Comet Press bill in small monthly payments. Mr. Levine’s intercession kept us from being hounded for the money.
