R1. GD’s note: In approximately 1921 a reading was listed under [5771] which was actually a reading for his wife [5421]. Her given name was never used and evidently the stenographer mistakenly typed just the initials into the reading rather than preceding the name by “Mrs.” as it appears everywhere else in subsequent readings. The gist of the reading bears out the fact that it was the wife’s check-up rather than Mr. [5771]‘s. However, it is possible that Mr. [5771] did have personal readings but we have no copies of them in the A.R.E. files. See 5421-1, the reading which was put on the film for preservation as that of Mr. [5771]‘s. Mr. [5771] in subsequent years requested six other readings for his wife [5421]* and never one for himself. He could not have been so ill as mentioned in this reading [5421-1] and not have referred to his condition subsequently. Everything points to the fact that it was his wife’s reading and not his. See his subsequent correspondence typed into his wife [5421]‘s case.
- [Correction: On examining his correspondence it was found that the sixth reading requested was for his second wife [5775] and not for Mrs. [5421]. Apparently Mrs. [5421] died after he obtained for her 5421-6 on 6/1/26, and he requested the reading for his next wife, Mrs. [5775] on 4/2/30. Since this reading [5775-1] refers to previous readings it was assumed at first that she was the same person, and this second wife of Mr. [5771] has this reading listed on the film for preservation as 5421-7 instead of 5775-1 as it should be, because they are two different people. The mix-up occurred because in both cases the ladies were referred to [as] Mrs. [husband’s initials] instead of by their first names.]
