This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of August, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [641], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [641], Mildred Davis, Roy Buckalew, Sol Tepper and L. B. Cayce.]
Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:55 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks information, advice and guidance as to the proper application and expansion of his mental and material endeavors. Questions.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [641], present in this room.
-
First, as we find, in the physical forces of the body there need to be precautions taken as to inflammations that arise in throat and head and through the antrum and facial soft tissues. There is the poor circulation from a pressure that exists in the 3rd and 4th cervical. This needs not only the corrections but LOCAL applications for the relief of these conditions; that will relieve the tension experienced at times by the body, especially of mornings when there is a heavy dullness through portions of the body, and especially in the head - as of dull, not headaches but heaviness.
-
We would first make or have at least three to five corrections made in the upper dorsal and throughout the cervical area.
-
Also we would use as a local antiseptic, mornings and evenings, a solution in spray - prepared as follows:
-
To 1 ounce of grain alcohol (regular pharmaceutical use), add:
Oil of Eucalyptus…10 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…3 minims, Benzosol in solution…5 minims, Tincture of Benzoin…5 minims, Tolu in solution…20 minims.
As this is used in a spray, add twice the quantity of water to same; that is, to a teaspoonful of the above add two teaspoonsful of water. Use in a spray. This will relieve the pressures, provided the corrections are made also.
- (Q) How should the corrections be made in the upper dorsal and cervical? (A) As indicated, there are those pressures in the 3rd and 4th cervical that have been produced by first a little cold, then congestion; and this not being removed caused a poor circulation through head and face and produces a taxation in the soft tissue - antrum and nasal passages, producing even swelling at times in the connections between head and throat, in the back portion of same.
The corrections should be done either in an osteopathic manner or by using the head and neck exercises and setting-up activities that would require LONGER, but would be as efficient. Three to six adjustments osteopathically would make the correction. Necessary that the local applications, as indicated, be made also.
Do that.
- (Q) Any other treatment necessary for the physical? (A) As we find, with these corrections, with the relieving of the strain - from the drippings in the throat, the other portions will be corrected.
Disturbances in the digestive forces are created by the amount of acidity produced by the poisons that loose themselves in dripping, in draining into the alimentary canal, rather than being eliminated through their regular channels.
Do these and, as we find, the greater condition will be removed.
As to the application of self in the mental and material associations, as we have indicated, there are those periods of preparation and then those of application - in the experience of each individual entity in the material world.
In the present associations and environs there are the periods of preparation; and these surroundings and environs are as yet - have been and are - for the making of the stabilization in the activities of the body in its future relationships with the commercial and active associations.
So, as we find in the present - and until the latter portion of the coming year, the entity should remain much as in the present; save making those associations and connections in those fields of activity that we have indicated for the body - making, as it were, those connections for the specific presentation in the various fields of activity of those particular lines of endeavor in which the body may find the better of the greater associations.
-
(Q) Considering my business experience and previous development, in just what line of work could I use may abilities to the best advantage? (A) As indicated, in that line associated with cloths or things that have to do with wearing apparel.
-
(Q) Should I remain in my present line of work or make a change? (A) As indicated, the present line will make for not only the associations for the preparation of the body but will enable the body to USE those contacts in that particular field of activity or endeavor, you see; as in the advertising, as in the presentation, as in the sale, as in the activity of all such. Work or USE the present surroundings for the development of that particular field of activity; making the change in that period indicated - for, as we find, these present associations should lead TO that. See?
-
(Q) Since my Life Reading indicted special abilities in regard to wearing apparel, would this still be the best line of work for me? (A) As has still been indicated, the present activities should be used in acquainting self with the needs, the necessities, the requirements in that particular field; and as the time and the offer presents itself, then the change.
-
(Q) In just what capacity in that line of work? (A) Salesman on a road!
-
(Q) Any particular firm or clothing establishment that I should seek connection with? (A) As indicated, let the present associations lead to such fields of activity - in their local and in their national advertising, their national activities, see?
-
(Q) Is there any other advice for my better welfare? (A) As indicated from that which has been presented, as to the way in which the entity has developed, keep close to those ideals that have been indicated should be the guiding factors and forces in the entity’s endeavors; and making or self the ideal in the spiritual relationships - that the mental, the moral, the physical forces may be builded in a well-rounded body-mind and physical forces, will be such as to bring for the body the greater developments in the present experience.
-
(Q) In what capacity could I better further the work of the Ass’n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.? (A) By presenting to others that THOU, thyself, has found in thine own experience to be worth while. [See 641-3, Reports.]
-
We are through for the present.
[Immediately following the rdg. [641] said the conditions and feelings in head and throat were described perfectly. He did not fully understand parts of the reading, but after a discussion of it he seemed to understand it better. He was pleased that the rdg. saw and recognized his physical condition, even though he had planned on getting the vocational advice solely.]

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 6/8/36 Letter indicated that in addition to supporting his mother, [1187], and sister, [2111], he was endeavoring to help his married sister, [199] and family, since her husband has been out of work.
R2. 3/9/38 He indicated his participation in an A.R.E. Study Group.
R3. 4/24/36 “I went to B’ham Tuesday to hear Stowkowsky conduct the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and enjoyed it very much, but I am afraid that I don’t know music and understand it enough to avail myself of all that it has to offer. What information have you gotten about music? Are there any certain pieces of music that you have that you have information on particularly? It seems to be considered man’s best and highest form of expression.”
R4. 6/8/36 “I am not feeling very well today - haven’t been for 2-3 days. It may be malaria or just an upset stomach. Then, too, it is so hot here now - that may have helped whatever it is. I have to be out in the sun all day.”
R5. 7/30/36 Letter to Mrs. [1000]:
“My sister, [288], has suggested that you might be able to help me get a line on some good clothing houses. I have decided to make the clothing business my life work. I have had several years of experience in selling and collecting, and - according to my Life Reading from Mr. Cayce - I should be a “salesman on the road” for wearing apparel.
“Would it be asking too much for you to give me the names of some leading concerns throughout the country to whom I might apply for a job along that line? My sister thinks that since your brother and brother-in-law [[719] & [417]] have been in the clothing business for many years you might be able to get from them a list of the houses that put men on the road selling either the materials or the ready to wear goods in certain territories. I am at a loss to know how to begin, as I do not know the names of such concerns nor how to find them. I would like to select a good, reliable house that would stand back of its goods and give me an opportunity to make good along that line.
“I want to handle the best line of clothes from a house that will absolutely guarantee satisfaction to every customer, so that a regular line of repeat customers may be obtained; and of course with a price range which will not be prohibitive to the average prospect.
“If you feel that this is too great an imposition, please ignore my letter. My sister suggested that she felt you would be glad to get such information for me, if you do not already know yourself.
“With kind regards and best wishes, hoping you will pardon my approach in this manner if you feel that I am imposing, I am”
Sincerely, [641]
R6. 6/3/36 Mrs. [1000]‘s reply:
“My dear Mr. […]:
“I feel very much honored that you have asked me to help you to carry out any of the suggestions in Mr. Cayce’s readings and certainly would like to help you if I possibly can.
“My experience with the dress business was with the retail end of the line and that was 15 years ago. Even at that time we manufactured our own merchandise so that I did not know very much about outside houses. My brother-in-law is now out of the dress business and my brother handles a line of “stouts” for sizes way up to 64 bust, which is a limited field and curtails your earning capacity.
“After talking to several people about this matter, they suggested that you obtain a list of manufacturers to whom you could write a personal letter outlining your problem and possibly one of these would find a place for you. This is really a highly specialized field, … The name of the people from whom you can obtain such a list is Boyd’s Dispatch, 114 East 23rd St., N.Y. City. Also ask for their folder 196.
“In addition to this I have torn out the list of dress manufacturers that appears in the classified N.Y. book and you might try this by sending each of these a circular letter as you know the centre of the dress industry is located in N.Y. City.
“I hastened to send this to you as I know how anxious you are to get started in the right direction and regret that I cannot do something more substantial.
“I note what you say with reference to the type of house you would like to associate and I don’t blame you, but to start you will have to get in anywhere and get your experience and after you have had that, you can choose the manufacturer that has the best reputation and try to get in with him. This industry is at the mercy of the unions and the sad part is that the strikes occur when their orders are heaviest and even though they are more than anxious to fill them, conditions compel them to fall down on deliveries. However, you may just be lucky and make a good contact and get yourself a good job. There is nothing like trying.
“The work that I am attempting to start now may offer the field that you want to enter as it concerns wearing apparel and that is what the reading may have meant. I am not quite ready but as soon as I am, I will write you again.
“Wishing you lots of luck, and with kind regards to you and [288], I am”
Sincerely, [1000]
R7. 8/19/36 See letter under 412-6 Reports applying for job as suggested in 641-1, etc.
R8. 8/25/36 Mr. [641]‘s ltr. to Mrs. [1000] [from his address in …, Va. where he is now boarding with Mrs. [303] and Miss [307]]:
Thank you very much for your kind letter and the information contained therein. I have written for the list of manufacturers and the folder.
At present I am working for the Fashion Garment Company in …, that makes ladies’ coats. It is inside work, doesn’t pay much, and there doesn’t seem to be much of an opportunity for advancement. I feel that my abilities lie in the selling end, and on the outside; consequently, I have still much to work toward.
Your paragraph concerning the work you are starting interests me greatly, and I would appreciate your letting me hear from you at any time you feel such an opening would be suitable for me.
Again thanking you for your kind interest, and with all good wishes for success in your new project, I am
Sincerely, [641]
R9. 12/30/36 Letter to [641] from The Schwob Company:
Dear Mr. [641]:
Now that you have had a touch of the tailoring business and sold ten orders, what do you think about it? Do you plan to continue selling tailoring next season? Let us know.
The small amount of business you sent us would not warrant giving you the Line again, but if you will promise to devote more time to the Line assuring us of a much larger volume of business we will be glad to give you another trial.
Yours truly, THE SCHWOB COMPANY [JTP:ds]
WE MAKE THE CLOTHES WE SELL - WE SELL THE CLOTHES WE MAKE
R10. 1/4/37 [641]‘s letter to The Schwob Company:
Gentlemen:
As your line is new in this territory, and as I am also new here, I have been handicapped in getting orders. But I have some very good prospects for the next season and would like to have you give me the line again - I believe I can do better with it. I have been promised orders by my few old customers as well as some new ones.
I like the tailoring business, and would really like to get ahead in it. Have you any suggestions?
Hoping you will give me another trial, I am
Yours very truly, [641]
