Protestant) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Va. Beach, Va., this 5th day of September, 1932, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [412], Active Member of the Ass”n for the Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis.]
Time of Reading 11:00 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [412], who is in the … Cottage at …, N.Y., his associates and associations. You will advise him about his mental and material affairs, and answer the questions in reference to these and … Uniform Co., …, N.Y. City.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [412], and those associations and relations, and the relations with … Company - these we have had before.
-
In much of that which has been given is seen that as is sought here. Much of that should be followed in consistent manner with that which has been given, would there be those effects brought about in the relationships that are for the upbuilding of those conditions promised the body in the material relationships.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What caused the disturbances in my body recently? (A) The upsetting of the system, produced by non-assimilation through contamination of outside and material influences inside, or an unbalancing of the metabolism of the system.
-
(Q) How can same be avoided in the future? (A) Don’t unbalance it! Be more consistent with the manner in which the activities are carried on, mentally and physically.
-
(Q) How can we raise the necessary capital of $10,000 to carry on our expansion as suggested in reading? (A) By using those facilities for the carrying on of the business already in hand. There is not the necessity for making expansions faster than the accumulation of orders justify, but these carried on in the manner that has been suggested will bring as results those expansions in the distribution, or the orders which will justify any of the financial associations in aiding in the expansions that would be necessary in the developing and expanding of the business - see? So, then, this should be a natural outgrowth, rather than making preparations or expanding before the orders and the satisfaction in service warrants such expansions; for one brings the other, as cause and effect, and there is that intermingling of cause and effect that goes with - or is the result of - good management, good judgement, in keeping with the character of the service that is rendered in the channels in which the activities are engaged, and these should be consistent one with another, and these will make for the opening of those ways and means for the expansion that is necessary.
-
(Q) Has the proper time arrived to change the name of the firm? (A) This should be also rather an outgrowth, and should be used rather in this manner: Are the associations now of such a nature that the service rendered is considered in association with [412]? or is it still the reputation of the … Company that is being sold? and is the dependence being put in the reputation of that association or of [412] and associates? Then, when this has been decided, and it is seen that it would be an addition to the associations to change to that policy of the service that may be rendered by [412], then it may be changed to “Uniforms by [412]” or some such name that would indicate the policy of the advancement of the service of those associated in the undertaking.
-
(Q) Would the name “Uniforms by [412]” be representative and also have the correct vibrations for success? (A) This has just been given. These should be decisions in the activities of the body. Is the dependence in those activities or reputations as has been given? or is the service and the activity of [412] such that these are the expectancy of those seeking service through the channels? If so, then change to that!
-
(Q) Is the Warrenton Woolen Mills the right connection for us, in the merchandising plan, from the mill to the consumer? (A) There should be a little more careful consideration of the financial responsibility of the Warrenton Mills before there is a definite stand taken. When these are satisfactory, and to the extent that they are entirely satisfactory and dependable in furnishing and supplying the material in the raw, then this would be the proper association and connection. As we find, it would be well that there be more than one graded mill supply through these channels for the greater success. That one making for the competive association, and that one supplying the better - or that as is sought in a competitive quality association. While the Warrenton furnishes these in rather the intermediate grade, these can be supplied in such a manner and connection as from those of the new Haven Mills - as well as the Warrenton Mills. Those two associations would be the better.
-
(Q) What are the changes in policies referred to in Par. 2-A, [412-3] reading of Oct. 1931, and when will they be put in affect? (A) They should ask themselves when will they be put into effect! The policies were outlined; that is, the service; that is, the manner of service; that is, that policy that the customer must be supplied in a manner that is in keeping with that being sought. See?
-
(Q) In what way can the policies of the firm be improved? (A) These have been outlined; that is, in the manner as just given.
-
(Q) Name the fraternal organizations that would be worth while connections and which are financially well off, as suggested in reading? (A) Those of the Boy Scouts, those of any of the Woodmen [Woodmen of the World] orders, those of any of the uniform ranks in the various organizations that make for the active forces in connection with same.
-
(Q) Would it be wide to make connections in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, as suggested in reading of Oct. at the present time, or better wait a little? When will be a good time? [412-3] (A) When they can be made! Now is the time!
-
(Q) Name some of the connections that would be valuable in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama. [See 412-2.] (A) Any of those, through working through those channels that make for the individual activity in lines with these, or such organizations, or that make for those associations and connections in line with that which is supplied through those of the individual activity; that is, as this: There are those connections in such places as Savannah, as Atlanta, as Columbus, in Georgia, that make a specialty of supplying the uniforms for hotels, organizations, police forces, and the like. These must be sought out! To give the body, the individual, whom to approach - as in any one of the places, which may be done - will be cutting off the policies, and that of the will of the individual in making for self a success! It would then be dependent on outer influences that must be continued to be sought! The activities of an individual should be to become themselves capable, able, of meeting the conditions in their own personal experience, by building that necessary element of activity in same HOW to meet situations. The same condition exists in other portions of the States as named. Make the connections by seeking out those that make a specialty in this way and manner.
-
(Q) Why have we been unable to contact Mr. [1565] of Tulsa, Okla., as mentioned in this reading? [412-2, Par. 7-A] (A) He has moved away! It may be made through [592], the father, or the [592] organization, or to whom it will be distributed or sold!
-
(Q) To whom do you refer in reading of June 1931, as a valuable connection in Tulsa, Okla., for the proper handling of measurements and advantageous contacts throughout the country? (A) This same organization - [592].
-
(Q) What is wrong with [Brother […]] physically and mentally? (A) We have [412], not [brother […]].
-
(Q) What is the real cause of the disharmony between [brother […]] and [my wife [457]] at the present time? (A) Both are wrong! We haven’t either of these in the association, save as in connection with [412] in the furtherance of the organization! Make each stay in their place, would get along with the associations of each!
-
(Q) Considering our financial situation, state specifically which type of advertising will give us the best results (such as magazines, personal mail, or printed circulars or printer blotters). (A) Personal correspondence, or the seeking out of those various groups or associates with those of newspapers, would be the better advertising or magazined. Magazines would be better in many of the fraternal organizations.
-
(Q) When will the body enter the period of material prosperity as stated in reading of June 1931? [412-2] (A) When he fits himself for same, mentally and physically!
-
(Q) Regarding my filing folder patent, where is Snow & Co. located, as referred to in reading? [412-3, Par. 21-A, 22-A] (A) In Washington, D.C.
-
(Q) How does the manner in which the verifications are approached differ from patents now registered at the U.S. Patent office? (A) This may be better found by comparison of same, which may be found through the searching out of those that are acquainted with the activities in such filings.
-
(Q) How can I obtain a patent which will not conflict with the patent above? (A) The patent above does not conflict with that that is applied for, if applied for through or in the proper way and manner!
-
(Q) Can our blue sample box be patented as a whole or in part (which part?) Name some one to put it thru for us. (A) That part that has been designated may be patented.
-
(Q) Name someone to put it thru for us. (A) Snow & Company!
-
(Q) Considering that our colored style-cut pictures were made in Germany, how can we prevent our competitors from copying them? (A) You can’t!
-
(Q) Would it be advisable to make the change from our present bookkeeper Mr. Jaffa - (A) (Interrupting) We haven’t Mr. Jaffe!
-
(Q) Reading [412-3], answer Par. 7-A, name some “representatives in certain mill ends activities in section of Chicago”. (A) Seek them out!
-
(Q) Who is the person referred to in reading [412-3], answer Par. 7-A, as “One that is not interested directly in this association but who is connected with the Straus interests of Chicago”? (A) Seek them out! Must be some activity on the part of self, would self be prepared to meet the situations that would arise!
-
(Q) How can we make connections with the Straus interests in Chicago, as suggested in reading? (A) Through any of those associations that make for those that manage or handle the various hotels and organizations of the kind, through the Straus interests.
-
(Q) Is there any way that the … Uniform Co. can aid this work in return for this information? (A) This it must figure out for itself?!
-
(Q) In what city is the 12 Nassau St. mentioned in reading [412-3, Par. 25-A] of Oct. 1931, and name the managing director and purchasing agent who may be reached there? (A) In New York City, Manager of the New York & New Haven Railroad.
-
(Q) Any other advice for this body at this time? (A) KNOW the way the conditions are leading, and be guided by those things that are builded within self in abilities to meet situation day by day.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/2/33 He and his wife sent a card to EC while on vacation in Cuba.
R2. 9/20/33 Letter signed by Mr. [412] and by his wife, Mrs. [457]:
“My present financial situation does not permit me to ask you for a reading but as I need your help very badly, I have to ask you to wait until I am able to pay for it. I assure you Mr. Cayce that if we had anything beyond our immediate needs it would go to support your work.
“I do not know whether you still give a combination physical and mental reading so I have given two groups of questions. The most important are the physical questions. Leave out the mental if necessary. If the questions can be put more aptly, kindly tell Gladys and Mrs. Cayce to feel free to do whatever they think best. As long as they get the answers which we are driving at.
“Hoping you and your family are well and that the work is continuing to progress, I remain, with personal regards,”
Sincerely yours, [412], [457]

R5. 8/19/36 Mr. [641] wrote Mr. [412], via GD’s advice, as follows:
“Gladys has suggested that you might be of help in getting me placed in the clothing business. I am twenty-three years old, a high school graduate, and have had five years of experience in selling and collecting - though not in the clothing line. The following is a quotation from my Life Reading given by Mr. Cayce: [641-1:]
‘One that will find the greater success, the greater development in the present experience, coming through that of association with peoples - in the condition of the BUSINESS man, especially that as pertains to materials, clothing, or of such natures. These will be the natural trend and bend of the entity in its relations with individuals and things, for with that of the ability to make friends, and of the turn that is seen in the NOBLENESS Of purpose, this will offer the channel through which the greater development in the moral, the physical, the financial, the spiritual way, may come in this present experience. Hence the training that the entity should have under such conditions and relations should begin as soon as this may. Either by that of the gradual development into the association of, or to get - as it were - the correct ground work for such a development.’
“According to the incarnations given, I have been mostly a tradesman and especially in regard to materials, clothing, etc. Quoting from the Egyptian, ‘Among those peoples that were of the native folk, yet the one that brought much comfort to many peoples in providing for the application of the truth as was given by those in rule so that the native understood the intent and purpose. Acting then in the capacity of the teacher, the minister, or the go-between the priests of the day the common people. Hence among those who first in the land took on especial class of raiment or garments to designate self from other peoples, being appointed or given this permission through those in power, both religious and political. Hence the abilities to know MATERIALS, especially that as applies to wearing apparel.’ Later in a Check Reading it was given that the opportunity should come to me as a “salesman on the road.” In my home town, a small town in Alabama, there has been no opportunity for me to get into the clothing line. I have been writing to tailoring houses, in regard to selling tailored clothes on commission, but I feel the need of some preparation and training (in this life) before undertaking such. I have had general office experience, and consider myself a fairly good salesman - if I am first sold myself on the product. My difficulty has been in getting lined up with the right concern in order to get knowledge and experiences in the line I should be selling.
“I think I would like to sell uniforms. According to that Egyptian information, I had to do with groups’ apparel, whose various activities were designated by their manner of dress - and this certainly sounds like what we would call the uniform business in the present.
“Do you thing you could place me? or do you have any suggestions as to how I should begin - in order to prepare myself to handle the best line of clothes from a house that will guarantee satisfaction to every customer, so that a regular line of repeat customers may be obtained, and of course with a price range which will not be prohibitive to the average prospect. I’d like to get my training with a firm that would stand back of me and allow me to work with them in building up the business.
“I would appreciate your writing me and offering any suggestions you might have, and if there is a possibility of an opening in your company I would certainly like to have a chance at it.
“Trusting I have not asked too much, and that you will have the time to answer me, I am”
Yours very truly, [641]

R7. 7/26/37 Mr. [412] wrote EC:
“You probably have been wondering why you never heard from me. We had to work very hard during the last few years to keep going and we are seeing now some light. Things are progressing very nicely and with some inventions which I have made we expect a better return in the future.
“After all I went through I feel badly in need of a physical reading. I would appreciate very much if you could advise me when such a reading can take place.
“Further more I would like to ask some questions with reference to an invention which I have not quite completed. Could this be combined with a physical reading? If not I would prefer to have that reading take place first before the physical reading. I would prepare questions in the meantime and would be ready to send them to you just as soon as you let me know when the reading takes place. I expect to be in a position again in the future to support your work.” [8/10/37 See 412-9.]
R8. 5/12/39 EC’s letter to his friend Mr. [779]: “Yes, [641] came up here a month or so ago. Hugh Lynn took him to N.Y. with him and [641] got a job with a friend of ours there [Mr. [412]] who sells uniforms. [641] went to work for them and has just come back from his first trip, came in last night; was in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio, and I think he starts out again Monday going to North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee and South Carolina. I think he will make it. [641] is a good boy.”

B2. 8/8/32 “You probably think every time I want something from you I write you. This is quite true because I am very busy and I have little time for myself. Today I would like to ask you for a favor. For the past week I am not feeling very well, and I would appreciate if you would set aside a rdg. for me in the next few days.
