Protestant) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 27th day of September, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Dr. [657], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks enlightenment, advice and guidance as to his financial situation, mental and material affairs. Questions.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [657]; this we have had before.

2. Regarding the conditions in the material things about the body, there have been indiscreet activities and some liberties taken that might be questioned in the experience of the body; thus brings to the mind and the experience the turmoils, the fears, that are the outcome of these experiences.

3. Not that we would find fault, nor chide with the body; neither would we condone these activities. And unless there is the determination, the purpose, the wish, the desire on the part of the body-mind to - not reform, but to put from the experience any such future activities, we would not advise that these suggestions be followed.

4. But rather we would give that there should be the expending of self in every direction that others might be aided and benefitted by such an expenditure. Why SHOULD one be aided? For it is not all just to have faith, nor to be good; but have faith IN something sufficient to put it into PRACTICAL application in the daily experience; to be good not only as for the ease, the satisfaction it may bring, but being good FOR something; expending self, as it were, ABASING self in the service of others - THIS is worth while, and brings joy, contentment, and an experience that is worth while.

5. Should the body-mind now use that which may be given and NOT DETERMINE such, it will be to his OWN undoing.

6. Then, in meeting the situations that are in the experience of the body in the present, we find from more than one source may there be made arrangements to meet the situations. There are the associations of an aunt, whereby arrangements have been made that there is to be turned to the body a portion of the estate; not only as a part of the entity’s own experience but as in protection or guardianship for others that are to be named. Use this aright! lest there be those hardships coming to thee worse than the other!

7. This, as we find, should come into the experience of the entity within the next thirty or sixty days. Yes, through those channels that the entity has made and does make the financial association and connection with these necessitating activities may there be borrowed sufficient to replace those bonds that have been lost - yes, LOST - by the body.

8. In making recuperations also (and this is to be only for self), if there is the desire for speculation that there may be the replacing, begin - NEVER more than with the expenditure of a hundred dollars in one time - in American Can; for it will - through the whole portion from October 5th to the 25th - be on the advance. But never let more than two days go by, for these are not to be held - but to be bought and sold for immediate returns. And to give such information as tips to others is to destroy self’s own abilities to use that given.

9. These are being ENTRUSTED to thee, my son! Wilt thou abuse them, or wilt thou save thyself through those channels that may be opened to thee at this time?

R1. GD’s note: EC woke up [from 657-2] with a look of surprise on his face. When we asked him “What is the matter?” he said, “I don’t know - everything looks so funny.”

R2. 9/27/34 Letter from EC to Dr. [657]: “I suppose you must think I have been somewhat negligent in answering your letters; but as you no doubt have gathered, it has been some little time since we have had an open appointment - hence the wire when we suddenly found one.

“From those present at the rdg. I understand that no opportunity was given to ask questions. Why, I don’t know. We do have such experiences once in a while. We have new experiences, we might say, almost every day. Sometimes we are amazed at what is said, and how the information is given. All present said they had never heard information given just as this was this morning. That’s why we are really anxious to study this work, yet we realize we are so close to it that oftentimes we might miss the most important details. I don’t know whether this information answers your questions fully or not. You’ll be better able to judge than we. You’ll know whether it means anything or not. Read it over very carefully and seriously. I gather that it is for yourself only, alone - and not with others. There should be a real experience in this for you, Doctor, and I certainly hope that it will enable you to be of a greater service to your fellow man than you have ever been before. A service that only goes so far as to gratify our own desires, or to create other longings within our own selves, can’t last very long. I don’t have to tell you such things, though, and I’m not a moralist trying to preach anything. For if this isn’t a practical thing, to me it is not worth applying in our own experience.

“If there are any questions you feel are not covered, let me know and we will try again. I want to be used as a service for my fellow man, if I know myself at all. I’m sure you will be interested in a report I had this morning from a Park Avenue physician and surgeon. I’ve known him for some little time; he has heard several readings; he has said he couldn’t dispute them, but he always felt there was something tricky about it. But a few weeks ago a man in New York asked for a rdg. on his wife, and the rdg. - when taken - described her condition, recommending that she go to this doctor who gave that special treatment necessary in her case. He says that he was just amazed when he made the examination; he couldn’t understand how anything could be so correct - when the husband told him that I had never even seen his wife, much less examined her. And so it goes!

“But I’ll be anxious to hear from you. I certainly wish it had been possible for you to have come down with Mr. and Mrs. Hirn. It may be that some of the family will come to you for treatment; we advised that they go to you or Dobbins, or at least have you recommend someone in Long Island - if it proved inconvenient for them to come in.

“Let us hear from you. I’m looking forward to the time when I may talk with you in person and come to know you better.

“And I trust we may be of a service to you, in assisting you to be of a greater service to your fellow man.

“With kind personal regards…”

R3. 10/1/34 Letter from Dr. [657]: “The personal Rdg. and your very fine letter were received. To be very frank with you I was very disappointed in the former, and very pleased with the latter. You had urged me to ask definite questions, I had sent them to you twice, and not one of them was definitely answered - so far as I can understand. Of course, I am not blaming or criticizing any one or anything, as this would be most ungrateful. I appreciate what you tried to do for me very much. But I am much disappointed in the little guidance you could offer me. I would not have written this letter to you, had I not received yours, for I feel like a ‘piker’ not being able to offer any remuneration for the service I so anxiously desired. However, I think you have a wonderful work regardless of my own results. The questions which I asked, and the answers of which would have been definite help to me, are as follows:

1. When should I notice a definite and persistent improvement financially?

2. When will or should I be able to entirely clear-up my indebtedness?

3. Is it true, as informed by an astrologer, that a substantial financial benefit is coming to me in the near future? If so, in what way and how soon shall I receive it? (This may have been answered indirectly in the Rdg., but I am not at all sure. As yet I know nothing of any arrangement with an aunt’s estate, mentioned in the Rdg.)

4. Will I be in any greater financial stress or embarrassment, before my finances are straightened out?

5. Should I join some other physician, or enter into some other field outside of my profession for remuneration? If so, where & with whom is the opening best for me?

6. What can I do personally, mentally, or in any other way to help improve my financial position?

7. SHOULD I borrow from another source to replace some lost bonds? If so, from where? (This was PARTLY answered, but the answer did not say that I SHOULD - only that I could,) and it does not say definitely from whom as far as I can understand.

“These questions may be the wrong type, or sound foolish to someone else, in which case I would have been glad to be instructed. I am not repeating them for you to try again, unless you really desire to. ‘Beggars must not be choosers.’

“I deserved and appreciate the scolding I received in the Rdg. I was indiscreet in using Mother’s bonds to protect my stocks at the crash, not realizing it was going to last over five years. My practice also dwindled 75%. I have learned my lesson and must make good. Also I am regularly aiding someone else in one way or another, and have much joy in so doing. So these things I already know and do, and so are not enlightening me. The Rdg. also suggests speculating 100.00 at a time on a certain stock. This stock costs now ABOUT 100.00 a share; so the recuperation would be too small apparently to amount to anything, as far as replacing bonds are concerned. But I will do it anyway.

“It is mighty nice for you to say that you wish to be used as a real service to your fellow men. I hope I am not burdening you with this long letter, and I surely appreciate your willingness to help me. It is no one’s fault, only my misfortune, that this thing has not ‘clicked’ for me. I am anxious for the time to come when I can talk with you personally.

“This week, I hope to see another Osteopathic Physician to see about and correct that 2nd lumbar. But my health does not give me much concern.

“Thanking you again for all that you have tried to do for me, and with the very best of good wishes, I remain.”

R4. 10/6/34 Letter from Dr. [657]: “Your very kind letter was received today. You are mighty kind to me. I shall not forget it. Your good work has come to me just when I PERSONALLY needed guidance - probably more than ever before or again in my life. By all means wait until you return from your trip. In the meantime, I shall ask my Aunt for a loan next week. I hope it is the best thing for me to do.

“I trust that when you return and have time for me, I will be well guided in the course I am to follow. If I am not, I shall fully realize that it is no fault of yours. If you desire another copy of the questions please let me know.

“Thanking you again for your very kind service…

“P.S. If, without spoiling the Rdg. for Financial Guidance, you can reach the cause and remedy of the loss of pigment in certain parts (or areas) of my skin, I would be very interested to know it. It was not answered in my physical reading. But do not include it, if the financial guidance would in any way be spoiled - for that is most important to me now.”
