This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at The Oakland, 2006 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C., this 18th day of October, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [699], new Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the Cayce lecture at Willard Hotel on October 5th, and Mrs. [694].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mr. [699].]
Born July 29, 1900, 98th St. & Central Pk. W., New York City. Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C. (Life Reading Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the present entity, known as or called [699].
-
It would be well for the changes, for the vibrations that may be brought to the entity through same, that the name ever be used or signed as [initial of first name and full middle name - [699]].
-
In entering this present experience, while we find the entity is meeting in this experience much of what may be called or termed karmic conditions, the entity may know - and, most of all, experience in self - that truth in the promise that has been given, “And I will remember their sin no more.” This should be the experience of every entity in the activities in the earth; yet - as understood, and as will be shown and given - it is always a promise that is dependent upon the activity of the entity, of the soul, in experience. For the laws, the love, the actions in a consciousness before each soul are ever tempered with the mercy the entity itself shows. Yet there may be the experience in each entity that, as thou hast forgiven and as thou dost forgive thine brother, so may THY trespasses against thy God in thyself be forgiven thee.
-
Then, in giving those influences that are active in either the impulses latent within or those that are more of the motivative nature in the impulse through the senses of the entity, these may be given; that in the applying of that thou knowest within thine inner self ye may grow IN the understanding, IN the grace, in the knowledge that knowledge is power only as it is of a constructive nature as ye apply it in thine own soul’s development, towards being a greater and a better and a more hopeful channel of blessing to thy fellow man.
-
As to the astrological sojourns of the entity, these we find come rather as the innate - and are from the sojourn of the entity between those material manifestations of the soul body, or are an activity of the mental body with the soul body in those planes of experience.
-
As in Jupiter, we find one making for broad vision and experience of the entity in the material plane, meeting, consorting, gathering together with those of many varied or wide experiences, that have been, that are effective in the realm of materiality, of mentality, of spirituality. Thus there should come in the experience of the entity in a portion of the present sojourn (though we do not find the entity, without a great deal of preparation, holding to same) great quantities of material things; as a great deal of monies, responsibilities, places of power or position.
-
We find the influences in Saturn with Mars as innate experiences, changes of sudden and indeterminate origin coming within the experience of the entity; the more often through wrath, anger, ire, or pure cussedness on the part of individuals that have lost their way and become meddlers in the experiences of individuals’ activity. These have brought, will bring - though innately, dependent upon the activities of the entity as to the EFFECT upon the purposes, the aims, the desires - such changes and such conditions into the life. Well that this be as a basic principle in self, in the spiritual and in the mental: “Man looketh on the outward expression but God looketh on the heart.” Evil, then, is to him that thinketh evil. The purposes, the desires, the aims, are (as unto Abraham, a consort of the entity in an experience) counted as faith through that of righteousness in the purpose, in the heart. Not that it fails, or does not bring the experiences as even to thine friend in the earth then - as misinterpreting; yet it is that to which many may come for aid, succor, understanding, seeking the way. And the entity that holds to such in self, in the creative forces, may become the guiding post, the shining star, the light to many.
-
From the influences in sojourns in Uranus with Neptune in the ascendancy, we find that interest in those things pertaining to the mysteries of the expression we call life; as to the delving into the unseen influences that become activative in the experience of human individuals - and this from those things that have to do with those who have crossed bodies of water, or near unto those ports from which ships go to the utmost parts of the earth may the entity - in such an environ - find that quiet within self that may enable self - through those studies, and through those meditations in self, and of what has been the experience of others - to gain, in such a surrounding, a deeper meaning, a deeper understanding. For, as has been in the experience, and as is partially understood by the entity, everything in motion, everything that has taken on materiality as to become expressive in any kingdom in the material world, is BY the VIBRATIONS that are the motions - or those positive and negative influences that make for that differentiation that man has called matter in its various stages of evolution into material things. For it enters and it passes through. For - as is the better understood, and as will be proclaimed (and the entity may be able to aid in same) - all vibration must eventually, as it materializes into matter, pass through a stage of evolution and out. For it rises in its emanations and descends also. Hence the cycle, or circle, or arc, that is as a description of all influence in the experience of man. And very few do they come at angles!
-
As to the application of these innate influences in this manifested body, as we find, [699] we are speaking of, the emotional forces - or the expressions from the sojourns, have had and do have their influence as to how this expression may be raised in the experience of the entity in its expression or experience of same in this present sojourn.
-
Then, before this we find the entity was in the immediate land of its present nativity, during those periods when there were the first of those attempts on the part of individuals in this same land to make application of those things pertaining to putting into activity the motions from without to motivate forces from within activities in relation to material things. Or as J. Worthington (also a helpmate of Fulton), the entity - though one of prestige and power - was AFRAID almost for the expressions of activity with that entity Fulton, that rose not of itself but through much of that aid the entity gave - though being in self afraid of “What will people say?”
-
And still in the present does the entity find that element of fear so often entering. Not that there is the EXPRESSION of same, but innately the emotions pass through the self that create a portion of fear of what others will say. Not so much of what they do, but of what others will say! For the strength when it is in the open, in self, is well - when it is known; but that fear INNATE as to what will be the expression keeps those conditions as of the lack of wholly the best of self being expressed - from fear. Remember, “Perfect love casteth out fear.” Not of thyself alone may ye conquer same, but through that same emotion that thou hast felt when thou hast forgiven an unkindness said here or there. So may that spirit of truth bear witness with thine inner self that THAT truth will guide, THAT truth has forgiven, and that love - which is known through the knowledge of same - casteth out fear.
-
Before that we find the entity was in those lands known as the English, during the periods when there were many of those turmoils in a disturbed land respecting those things that made for the motivating forces of the new emotions that were aroused by the teachings of a new teacher in the east; and when there were the gatherings of those that would go to subdue, to retake the lands; or during those periods of the Second - yea, the THIRD - war of the Crusades did the entity then, in the name Captain (yes, that’s the name, Captain) - Jahn - sometimes written Iahn.
-
In that experience the entity passed through periods of many changes in the emotional portion of its experience, as well as in the physical life. For the entity through that sojourn gained much, and much that has to do or deals with the experiences of the entity in the present. For there were turmoils and strifes not only of the physical but of the material life, and the meeting with and the failures in the abilities of those who had gone out as of high hand, with purposes that were as with the songs that would carry on. Hence we find the ability of voice in the present, to make for the intonations that may arise within self; and will make for expressions in others, the abilities to HOLD in their activities to the thought of expressions in self.
-
Also there was in the experience, as it were, a reversal of the thoughts as to the purposes for which the entity came out, with a greater understanding of the things that were presented by the Mohammedans and by the sages of the east and the Brahmans. The entity gained a different insight, and hence that ability in the present to listen well to all those influences that are the experiences of an individual as to the motivative expressions of self from within. Or tolerance is a portion or may be said to be a virtue that the entity has gained. And yet at times it seems to bring to the entity, through its very tolerance of those expressions, something of an unsettledness not always satisfactory; as to WHEN and where tolerance for its OWN ideas and ideals should begin or stop.
-
In the experience the entity made for the abilities in the applications of the material forces in nature for the healing of the body; the applications of clay, oils, drugs, waters, and the quieting from within through the laying on of hands.
-
In the application then in the present in these fields of activity should the entity find that channel for not only the greater expression of self that has been gained through its sojourns in the earth, but the greater contentment in that which will make for - in contentment - a growth. While storms and trials are necessary in every soul, as we see manifested in nature, only in contentment does GROWTH make manifest. Not contentment to that point of satisfaction, for a satisfied mind or soul ceases to seek. But only in contentment may it receive and give out. In GIVING does a soul grow, even as a tree, even as a rock, even as a sunset, even as a world GROWS in its influence upon that about it. So has that force grown that we find manifested in the earth that we worship as constructive influence of God, as to the All-Wise purpose, or as to the Holy Spirit, or as to those influences that make alive in giving, in MAKING itself manifest. So are ye gods in the making, saith He that walked among men as the greater teacher of all experiences and ages.
-
Before that we find the entity was in that land now known as the Palestine land, during the periods when that patriarch of old walked in the land, whose life and experience was recorded by the writers of old - in Abraham’s day.
-
The entity then was in the name Abimelech, or the ruler of those people in the lands that lay between the Egyptian and Syro-Phoenician lands. The entity then gained, even through those experiences and associations. Yet from those very activities there were brought those desires on the part of the entity, Abimelech, to bring to the knowledge of those who were as servants - or those whom the entity served in the capacity of the king of that land - that, “He that would be the greatest among all would be the servant of all.” While the entity had much in its experience and through that sojourn, that in the material and the moral life in the present would be questioned, yet the purposes, the aims, the desires, the activities were rather as the growth throughout that sojourn.
-
And the abilities of the entity in the present to apply same are in the innate influences that impel and make for a growth in the SOUL, or in the ENTITY - which is the combination of all its experiences with its soul also - that may make for not only the material but the mental and spiritual growth that comes to a greater and better knowledge, understanding, of those things in the earth.
-
Before that we find the entity was in that land we now call the Egyptian, in those periods when there were the reestablishings of those tenets that had been begun after the turmoils and strifes that had arisen between the natives and those that had subdued the land; or those strifes between the material-internal influences or rebellions owing to the activities on the part of the Priest.
-
The entity was among the native peoples that were aiding with the applications of those things found by what would be called in the present the DOCTORINGS, or the hospital, in those places of retreat where the various applications were made. And the entity was especially endowed with those abilities to draw from stones, from the clouds, from the elements, an influence that would QUICKEN the activity of nature in its application to man; or what we call electrical forces in the present. In the name then Hin-pt-el, the entity lost and gained.
-
In the application in the present we may find much that may aid the entity in applying that in the experiences of others that may make for its LIFE work.
-
Then, as to the abilities of the entity in the present and that to which it may attain, and how:
-
WONDERS may be accomplished, my friend, in thine application of that thou hast here gained, in how thou hast used thine self and thine Lord and thine peoples - yea, help will come by seeking from within to know the ways thou may be guided the better.
-
In making self, then, as an individual that may apply the electrical therapeutics that are associated with hydrotherapy therapeutics, the entity may find in self a channel for the restoration of self in a perfected physical body, and THROUGH same give much of those teachings that thou hast of old, with that thou may render as a servant to thy fellow man, who through the weaknesses of the flesh have faltered in their application of the tenets of truth as manifested day by day before them. And ye will grow in grace, in knowledge and in UNDERSTANDING; making for self the greater contentment that means GROWTH in thine own experience.
-
Study, then, that thou hast in hand, that ye may be endowed with those visions of power, of choice, of right and wrong, even as thou wert with thine friend Abram.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Should I continue to work with the doctors this next year, or look for something else? (A) Continue to work with the doctors this next year, and during that time make an effort, and not only an effort but make self thorough in electro-therapeutics and hydrotherapeutics, as applied to the HUMAN ills.
-
(Q) Will any success materialize for me from Salter’s electric furnace? (A) We don’t have that in association with the life’s work. We find there is an association, and - as we find - if the adaption of this is for a GREATER activity it may be made a success; not in the iron end but rather that which will make for the abilities of separations of some of the elements that are being sought. Uranium has something to do with it. Look to that end of separation - Uranium; for you will find another element coming in, from the abilities of this electrical furnace, in this relationship. See? Not from the iron end, rather from the uranium - for we will make a new metal with this. Follow this out.
-
(Q) What should I do about my father in New York City, for the future? (A) We haven’t the father, but this is an obligation and a duty - a privilege. As ye are shown to do from within, considering all, weigh thy judgments well - and let thine conscience be thy guide.
-
(Q) How long will my mother live? (A) This is also a problem, but depends upon the application of that which is in the experience of each. In the next year, yes, she will pass.
-
(Q) During the next year? (A) During thirty-five.
-
(Q) Should I bring her to Washington with my sister? (A) Deal rather with these questions, my friend, from thine inner self, than from those directions here. Take thou into consideration what has been given thee. Thou must! How has it been given? “As ye have done it unto these, ye have done it unto me.” And, “Who is my father, who is my mother? He that doeth the will of the Father, the same is my father, my mother, my brother.”
-
We are through.

Mr. [699], Washington, D.C.
My dear Brother,
“Your blessed kind letter received with sincere joy.
It is not unfortunate there are always those among humanity who would rather destroy or try to than create.
We have never said a disparaging word about Mr. Edgar Cayce work to any one. As far to think, much less saying he is a faker, is a great mistake. We have never said or thought this of another of God’s children anywhere at any time.
We only pour love to all of God’s children everywhere, even to those who try to injure us or the work.
Students should be strong enough to regret these kinds of statements and stamp them out of existence and I am grateful to you that you have been strong enough to do this.
It is so unfortunate that some times earnest sincere individuals make themselves channels for vicious gossip.
However, it has no power and is dissolved and consumed by Presence and Power of the Mighty I Am before which no human thing stands.
We have never in our life spoken unkindly of another sincere work, but individuals often try to get us to express opinions and when we will not, make up their own tale. God forgive them for they know not what they do.
Will you kindly read this to Mr. Cayce or tell him the truth as I have written it.
I do so sincerely thank you for your sincere interest and for informing me of the situation. It is deplorable.
Give our sincerest love and blessing to Mr. Cayce and tell him he has our sincerest love and good wishes for his success and happiness.
Ask him to refuse acceptance to any such vicious gossip.
We are indeed grateful Mr. Sieber will soon be well enough to get into action again. We have missed him very much.
We are grateful and happy your classes are going forward so lovely. All harmonious groups are doing humanity a tremendous service in the acknowledgement and calling into action the Mighty ‘I Am’ Presence.
Our love and blessings enfold you always and all the students there and we are constantly holding them within the blazing light of the ‘I Am’.”
Most sincerely, G. W. Ballard

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
My dear Mr. Cayce,
“In accordance with the wishes of Mr. G. W. Ballard I am inclosing to you herewith a letter from him which I feel sure you will be very very glad to see.
I felt sure that he had misrepresented to you in the matter to which you made reference during one of your talks here and as I wanted to see the real Truth known I communicated with him about it, and this letter is his reply.
I am sure you approve of my action in this matter, and I am more than glad to have had an opportunity to clear up a most regrettable misunderstanding which is now proved to be not based on fact.
Anyway, the more Truth comes through the merrier for all the Universe, is my belief.
Will you please return the original letter when you are finished with same. The attached copy is for your files.
Trusting that you are enjoying a fine rest and that I shall hear from you soon, I Am”
Most sincerely, [699] [GD’s note: He signed as the rdg. told him to.]
R9. 3/4/35 EC’s letter to [699]:
Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. [699];-
“Thought sure would have sent you the reading [to follow 254-83?] long before this and here it is the next week and haven’t gotten the reading as yet, for the first two days had just rest - was in a sorrier fix that I realized until I had relaxed a bit, then My Father has been and still is quite sick up in years as you know, has been a suffer from Phthisic [phthisis - asthma] for well every since I can remember, has barely missed Pneumonia if he has, so have had my hands full, a couple of people from Washington have been down this last week, and a old friend of the work [Franklin F. Bradley] turned up also, a very warm personal friend of FDR; so just have had the chance to get to it, don’t think I am just negligent, you know tho with out my telling you there is some aversion on the part of some as to my getting the reading, as there was for the 1st one [254-83]. But will get to it real soon, soon as possibly can, was nice of you to help out as you did while we were in Washington this last time, hope we can be there again next month, if it is desirable by those of the groups there that have been interested. Am sure you have had a lot to think about, we don’t want to rush in too hastily nor do we want wait so long that every thing cools off to finish.
Will let you hear from me tho soon as possibly can, and you keep me posted as to what goes on there.
Take care of your self and if you have any brilliant suggestions why lets have them together we may do much pulling apart, not so good.”
Regards and best wishes, Edgar Cayce

Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. [699];-
“Many thanks for yours of 1st enclosing the letter from Mr. Ballard, guess that is the way a great many misunderstanding[s] begin, and they gradually grow into hates and the like; think it very good of you to send me this, and hope it satisfies your mind, of course what has been said has been said, have no idea of antagonism for what any one may say, for when one speaks of another, it does not hurt the individual referred to but the one speaking, and their selves alone.
Haven’t had the chance as yet to get to the reading [another to follow 254-83] - hope to soon.
Have been keeping so busy and my father being sick causing worry but will get there some day soon.
Thanking you again and again.”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R11. 3/7/35 [699]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
“Certainly was very thoughtful of you to send me your letter of the 4th, and surely appreciate hearing from you.
Much that you mentioned therein has stimulated me to much thinking and I agree with you most profoundly in the thought that ‘together we may do much’.
I believe that before you and me is one of the biggest and most wonderful opportunities ever presented to may man or group of men. And I am also aware that primarily the opportunity has come to you, and to myself only insofar as I may be of worth-while assistance in enabling you to take advantage of it. For I believe that it is only through your merit that this work has been allocated for accomplishment to you and to those who may be capable of helping you to do same.
Yes, I have had a lot of things to think about since our conversations while you were here. Needless to say how much I valued the opportunity I enjoyed to have had those talks with you as I considered it a rare privilege to have been able to know about your experiences and to be able to ponder over the significance of same.
As you say, ‘Together we may accomplish much’ and yet as you also say ‘We don’t want to rush in too hastily.’ Although this is true, nevertheless, I firmly believe that the time has now come, when certain definite steps may be taken to more accurately adjust activities to their more proper purposes. I also believe that now is the time in which new steps can rightly be taken to take advantage of those opportunities which have been present in the past but which for any of several reasons have not been taken advantage of.
First of all, I believe mention should be made of the excellence of the work which you have already accomplished through the formation as far as it has gone of the Association. Information my studies have brought me, indicate that the principles upon which you have built the organization thus far, are essentially right and sound. A good start, is half the battle. But my observations also indicate that from now on certain new concepts should be held to more definitely insure the most efficient accomplishment of those ends, those purposes which all through the years and now appear to be possible of accomplishment, and indeed, which out of a sense of duty, should be accomplished.
Not only this consideration, but also the fact that certain aspects of the present policies of activity contain certain very definite drawbacks that should be corrected. To put it all in a nut-shell, it is obvious to any careful study that you personally could very well use some method, system etc., by which the personal strain now on your shoulders could be decentralized or shared; and the returns for your efforts could be better harnessed and made to give a more efficient yield for the amount of time and work expended. Also it is my own opinion that your physical condition will be so depleted by a much further continuance of the present inefficient methods that some such adjustment will be necessary. I do not see how in the future as activities, even at their present rate will enlarge, more groups being formed, more people becoming aware of the possibilities of the readings, I do not personally see how you will have the capacity to cope with the demand. That is why I believe some new method of your own research activities should be and MUST eventually be developed.
Also there is the information is at present in the world as to the intentions of those higher Intelligences who are working behind the scenes and in whose plans we unconsciously may be cooperating. All in all, I think your activities at present will give way to higher and more potent activities, which will accomplish more and at the same time relieve the physical strain which at present, in my mind, is becoming more and more unwise to permit to exist.
As I see it the answer to all the above, as we have already mentioned, is the inauguration of a new phase or avenue of application of your work. An additional form of activity it seems is indicated. Which by its adoption will enable the organization already in existence to specialize more perfectly on its own authentic field and not be burdened, as at present, by endeavoring to take care of another field, which although correlated, is not identical. In other words, it appears to me most strongly that the Foundation should be formed to specialize more particularly on the Research angle
- to promote that form of Research which is most indicated, and to concentrate on providing you with adequate support to carry on the Research most needed.
It appears therefore, that the truly authentic field of the Association is the dissemination to wider and wider circles of Groups the Researches that are thus brought through.
At the same time it is quite obvious that the work of the Association also needs assistance, as an organization of its nature cannot be expected to carry on the work of dissemination of enlightenment and at the same time to adequately secure the amount of financial support that such educational work deserves. At least past experience demonstrates this fact conclusively.
Another important fact is that the Foundation will provide a form or a vehicle by which may be harnessed those offers of assistance which have been made many times during the past, which the present form of organization does not have facilities to handle. For instance, it is the natural function of a Foundation to seek endowments for the scientific undertakings it fosters. Secondly, a Foundation is a natural vehicle through which development and legitimate exploitation of scientific researches may be carried on. This is far less if at all, the function of an organization which by its very nature is primarily occupied with the spreading of spiritual understanding among those seeking and ready for it.
It is obvious that to the support of a Foundation will naturally be drawn those personages of sufficiently powerful position in the world’s affairs who are in a position to materially insure its functionings; and who could not be, under any condition, incorporated into the works carried on my the Association, or at least up to now, have not been. Indeed no opportunity can be found even for such a suggestion to be made to some of the personages of this class.
Unquestionably, these functions of the Foundation will require some time and effort before they can be thoroughly realized in practical significance. But I do firmly believe that the time is now here when the first steps toward its formation should be taken.
In the meantime, the activities of the Association itself, admittedly could use augmentation and bolstering up. Need for more complete business management of the public lectures and activities of group formation is so apparent as to be readily recognized by most of those who are any degree at all familiar with the work. Had the one public lecture held here last time been adequately taken advantage of, at least three new groups could have been formed, instead of just the one which one did eventuate. Also a group composed of physicians alone could have been easily formed, if adequate management had been present to brought same into being. At least the material was available. And no matter how white the harvest, unless those are there competent to gather it, it will not find its way to the barn. If this was true of the meeting held in Washington, it must likewise be true of the meetings held in other cities. Indeed, in three years time it appears to me that there should have been more groups now in existence than only eleven. All this mind you, has nothing to do with your own personal activities throughout. The part you take is always most admirably handled. But proper and efficient presentation is needed by anyone - even the President of the United States has to have a campaign manager of the highest efficiency.
And furthermore, this consideration is no reflection in any way upon any officer of the Association, as it is likewise evident, that the work of the Association itself is of such proportions, even at this time, that it requires the full time and energy of any individual who is required to competently take care of it. It is beyond the power of human capacity to perform two such important functions at the same time. Consequently there appears to me to be a need in this direction of lecture management at the present time as well as for activities for inauguration of the plan for the Foundation. In both these activities, your own personal activities will of course be intimately engaged, as both are but channels for the more perfect expression here in this world - now - of the mission and ministry for which you have up to now served a preparation of thirty years of experience.
The striking similarity between your present position in your work and that in which the Great Master found Himself at the beginning of the most important phase of His ministry impresses me as being unusually significant - He had to have thirty years’ experience also before His truly public work commenced. And I think that the same has held for you. At any event, it appears to me that now you are in a position to accomplish anything you desire, if the opportunity and opportunities now available are taken advantage of. Adequate understanding has been the principal factor lacking in the past. Today I truly believe, it is available to your use.
And for this reason, I believe that now is the right time, to inaugurate at least the needed improvements for your present functioning and most probably for the inauguration of the new activities which will more perfectly aim not only to insure you of more adequate and permanent support and financial security, but also - and what is more important - will better enable you to bring the enlightenment to the world in general which it seems most indisputably is your particular missioning this life to bring about, and in which it is perhaps or may be my privilege to assist.
So much for a general survey of the present situation. As a practical suggestion, it might be a good idea for you to plan on stopping over here in Washington on your coming trip to New York for a few hours, so that certain plans in the above direction may be discussed.
I know I would welcome the opportunity to ascertain just what steps might at present be practical of being started. Inasmuch as my own work is at present adjusting itself into such shape that it can lie as it is for awhile, I personally would like to find out just what is the most desirable avenue of activity for me from this time on. It is perfectly apparent to me what I can accomplish from this time forward in the field of activity in which I have been engaged for the past nine years. But whether or not a more worth-while field of service in the Divine Plan may be embarked upon is something I would appreciate help in determining. I consider this of greatest importance to find out, not only because of any personal advantage that might accrue to me, but also to find out what is the will of the Divine Plan for me to do next.
It is perfectly clear what I could accomplish in this direction, through the development of your work, if such is the Divine Will that now is the time for such plans to be started, and if the opportunity, without UNINTELLIGENT hindrances, is presented. It is perfectly clear to me what CAN be done. And I believe more and more clarity will come through from time to time.
More clarity will come to all of us as soon as the information outlined in the remaining Research Reading is brought forth. I sense nothing but success for all of us in any event if we only just cooperate with the opportunities that ARE present. I believe these opportunities are here. It is only for us to open our eyes to see them. Certain factors, who are incapable of thus opening their understanding to the present opportunities, I believe should be adjusted to a more proper sphere of activity in which their understanding or lack of same would be of no consequence. By so doing certain obvious maladjustments so apparent to both of us, I am sure, would automatically be rectified.
I believe it is of supreme importance, that this rectification process should be NO LONGER DELAYED, regardless of ANYONE’S opinion to the contrary. One admonition during the past declaring that you should ‘Stand Up!’ seems particularly suited to the present condition, and furthermore it appears to me that it is vitally important that this SHOULD be done.
I believe the very life of the work is dependent on decisive action in this particular, inasmuch as nothing but the most perfect harmony should surround the delicate conditions under which you must subject yourself. Such harmony obviously to close observation, was not quite as much in appearance as it should have been, and it appears that it was lacking not from any intention, but simply from lack of understanding.
The achievement of understanding for some requires considerable time, and there is no reason why other activities should be hindered until such understanding is arrived at. Especially in such a matter as this, in which the work concerned, is one of public or humanitarian interest.
That is what prompts me to make such observations as these. And it is unnecessary for me to mention that same are made only with the understanding that they are confidential to you alone. It is the fact that your work is so direly needed by humanity that I am so bold to give utterance to these observations. But I believe the ends we are endeavoring to achieve warrant such frankness.
I believe this following extract identifies you work as well as anything I have seen. It is from the message from the Tibetan published last year by Mrs. Bailey [Alice Bailey of Arcane Sch.] and a copy of which I believe I gave you while here, ‘The fact of the existence of a Divine Plan for man and of a group of Knowers of that Plan (has been) set forth. A fact of outstanding significance there presented was the existence of a group of Higher Intelligences, living in the world today, who are the pioneers of the human race, and are the Custodians of this plan.
‘This group of Knowers has been variously characterized by students and thinkers, and may be thought of as a society of Illumined Minds. This society is composed of those human beings who have perfected themselves in the art of living, and have thereby attained the necessary vision and wisdom which enables them to work consciously and directly with the mind of God in bringing about the fulfillment of the plan of evolution.’
This statement I believe, identifies yourself and activities or at least I recognize it as so doing.
At any rate I hold the work before us to be of the highest and most important significance and I hope that we may work together for its accomplishment.
Of course, as soon as we have the next Research Reading information at hand, we will know much better what to do. Have just reread both the first Research Reading and the one we still have to get, and have just thought that if we can get at least the first sixteen questions answered on the next reading we will have enough information to at least get started with.
Fortunately, there can be no INTELLIGENT reason why this information should not be had. Any opposition to its coming through puts the one objecting in a very QUESTIONABLE light. But I am sure that success will eventuate for everyone. Am certainly glad you had the opportunity for at least a couple days’ rest when you arrived back home. That is something that was more needed than I guess you at first thought. I am sure that the sea air down there is very revivifying for anyone - much more life in it than here in D.C. although its not as rare atmospherically here in winter as it is in summer. Nothing like the ozone from the sea to rehabilitate a person. I hope next time you come up you can come up by boat - they carry autos free, so that’s a help. But of course would be more expensive that driving up when there are several to travel.
Note what you mention about you father’s illness and hope he has succeeded in escaping pneumonia, although Asthma makes life very difficult for a person in advanced years. My treatment is excellent for some types of asthmatics. Hope you yourself will be able to get a health reading covering my work as I would like to see you have the advantage of the radiation treatment I have been working with, although I want to see what the reading directs in regard to use of same.
Of course, am sure the groups here will be more than happy to have you back with them as soon as you can arrange it. I understand the new group is coming along very well, and I expect them to continue to be a very successful organization inasmuch as their membership material is very high grade. Group Nine is continuing fine also and the Glad Helpers meeting we had the other evening was most successful and it seemed good to have them start again. There is always a wonderful vibration comes through our meetings, everyone is conscious of it.
Again let me tell you how glad I was to hear from you and to tell you that I firmly believe that nothing but continued and more and more success lies ahead for you and that I hope that plans will come about for our mutual cooperation for the greater success of us all.”
Most sincerely yours, [699]
“P.S. Am registering this letter to insure you receiving same. My letter to you of March 1st regarding the Ballards evidently had not reached you by the 4th, which it should have.”

Dear Mr. [699]:-
“Thanks for yours of the 7th. Am sure every thing you have suggested is right in line, and must be attended to just as fast as it is humanly possible. Will see you on the way to N. Y. whether it will be going or coming can’t say, as you see we have a lot of work on hand that has to be attended too. Too bad that that is the case, work or not eat, no work no eat. That should and will be changes when and as it should be, realize that I have a lot of growing to do myself as yet.
Haven’t gotten to the reading as yet hope to do that tho before we leave even if we have to do it on Sunday next and that may be the time when we will do it, will go to N.Y. first of week either Sunday of Monday I guess, depends to be sure on circumstances.
Thanks a thousand times tho for your letter and will be seeing you and letting you hear, and will be getting busy just as fast as we can.”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

“Thanks for yours of the 30th [aboard ship, apparently in some official capacity, salvage ship for treasure], suppose from this you will have your questions in shape by the time you reach Norfolk about the 15th and we may be able to try and help out then. Know will be glad to do what ever can. Things are just so so have a very nice program I believe for the meeting, good speakers, and should have very good meeting. Do hope you will be able to be here at that time would like to to have you, and will be glad to have a long talk with you again. We will go over your suggestions, and see what can be arranged, don’t know but think I will have some things to talk over with you on that line. Possibly you might be the fieldman with me right along, why not? The pictures and data is very interesting, nothing would suit me better than to go with you to N.Y. Do hope it can be worked out some way. Are not busy this week at all, slow, and that we have to depend well why go into that ‘If it is God’s work it will succeed if it isn’t it has it has no right to succeed’ that is my motto. That is the whole situation I believe.
Well, let me know when to expect you in Norfolk. Will meet you to come out soon as possible, and will want to come in and see you. All fair here. Thanks and let me hear again soon.”
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
R15. 6/6/1935 Thursday, [699]‘s letter to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce,
“I am certainly more than delighted this morning to get your welcome letter of the 4th and it gives the day a fine send-off.
I presume we will be in Norfolk somewhere around the fifteenth as the majority opinion on board is that we should get away from here by then - which is after the Shrine conclave, for which Washington is getting all ready and which will no doubt be a terrible big time here. Personally I will be glad when we get started as progress has been slow here.
I have the time right now so I thought I would work out a set of questions this morning, as the situation involved certainly needs proper counsel and advice and the factors involved are so great and serious that certainly some Light is needed.
I do most sincerely hope you will be able to sail with us to New York and I furthermore hope that you can be permitted by the Information to cooperate with us in the many very important stages of development we must pass through. There is such an utter lack of superior guidance in our whole undertaking that it is pitiful; and it seems to me an ideal opportunity for the Higher Intelligence to manifest through and have Its Will carried out in this enterprise for the salvation of all concerned, financially and otherwise. I never in my life saw such an utter lack of wisdom in direction, except in one case, and I think it is most fortunate that we may have the opportunity of your help - that is, if the Intelligence is willing to help us, which I feel It will be willing to do.
I see no reason why this wonderful invention and this fine modern costly ship should not be put at the work of the Masters and guided by them for the good of all. There is certainly endless material opportunity for the assistance of everyone concerned, and I hope we may have the opportunity of adequately taking hold of all the possibilities present, through the help of the Higher Intelligence which your ministry has brought to our service.
The matter of finances at the moment is a more or less non-existent quantity at present - I have not drawn a cent of salary as long as I have been aboard, which is the last two months - getting nothing but living quarters and experience etc. But this of course is only temporary and we will be able to do our part in compensation before very long. And I am sure that if you are permitted to cooperate with us that the question of finances will be a permanently settled matter. You know the depths of the sea hold untold treasure and with our equipment we are the first and the only people who can come in reach of it. So you can see our possibilities.
And I am so glad that our course takes us to Norfolk at the time of your Congress as this is certainly going to be fine. I am sure you will get a big kick out of seeing our ship and making the trip with us, which I will see to it you do as our guest (and more, if I have success in my plans).
I consider this undertaking an ideal manner of spending the summer, except of course your Virginia Beach is a most ideal spot for spending the summer in anyway, but for myself, the cruise idea is of course far superior to staying in the city. However, I am sure it will be able to work out to the pleasure and advantage of all of us.
After we get this cruise matter settled, I see no reason why the matter of field work for the Association or the matter of progressing plans for the Foundation or any other project you may consider desirable, should not go forward with a new impetus and a new understanding, so that your Work and your self should enjoy a new scope of expression and freedom.
I am now going to study over my data here and work out my questions to send along herewith and if you can get to them between now and the fifteenth and will let me know when to stand by up here this will be the first step in getting the proper solution of the problems at present engrossing our attention.
Again I want to tell you how much happiness your letter has afforded me this morning - it has given me a new zest and zeal in going forward - a new Light and I most deeply appreciate the great kindness which has extended this offer of help to me.”
Sincerely as ever, [699]

Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce, Association for Research & Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Hugh Lynn,
“Thanks a million for your very interesting broadcast series with Long John over WOR this past week and deeply appreciate you bringing back all the wonderfully interesting memories to your great Father, when he so kindly gave us readings in Washington 20 years or so ago. I remember it all like it was yesterday and am very happy indeed I was one of those lucky enough to get a Life Reading.
In this connection, will you kindly advise me of the fee required to obtain a copy of my Life Reading which your Father gave me either in 1934 or 35 if my memory is correct. My Reading is mislaid in my papers somewhere and I will deeply appreciate your kindness in assisting me on obtaining a copy.
It brought back old memories of Washington to hear you again and I hope you will have more radio time again soon.”
R17. 9/23/59 [699]‘s letter to HLC:
Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce, Association for Research and Enlightenment, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Hugh Lynn,
“Possibly you may be able to verify a fact coming to mind last evening in a conversation here with Mr. David Kahn relative to a reminiscence of his youth told me by your esteemed father away back in the years we attended the Washington Cayce Group, possibly sometime between 1933 and 35.
During one of our personal afternoon visits, I happened to be discussing various matters of mutual interest with your Father when he told me of the story of the time in his youth when a very little fellow back in Kentucky on the farm, he was sitting in a field, alone on a summer afternoon, when he had his attention called to something or some movement or sound behind him and he turned and looked up and beheld the Blessed Virgin [GD’s notes in absence of HLC, 9/30/59: See pp. 26-27 of paperback THERE IS A RIVER under boyhood experiences.] appearing to him in the air quite close by and extending to him a golden object which he raised his hand and took.
I cannot recall if your Father told me any words were said or not. But I do remember he told me he ran home with the object of gold which turned out to be a $20 Gold Piece [it was a silver dollar] which they subsequently sent to the Mint in Washington D.C. who verified its authenticity; but added there was something ‘unusual’ about the gold piece.*
This is all he told me of the incident and the scene was so rather amazing, I made no effort at the time to ask for further details. As your Father had a kindly smile with which he always wound up his stories which seemed to signify that was all he cared to relate at the moment.
So many acts of graciousness and treasured reminiscence cling to my memory of your Father all lend to a store of fond memories of happy days with my dear friend Miss Rose Heilbronn who introduced me to your Father’s work in Washington in those happy days of yesteryear.
So this incident came to mind last evening; and I am wondering if you can also recall this incident of the Gold Piece so miraculously given your Father by the Blessed Virgin, just as he told it to me as above.
Appreciate your advices at your convenience.”
Very sincerely, [699]
R18. 10/11/68 Mr. [669] wrote Hugh Lynn Cayce: “I am especially grateful for my Life Rdg. and the many visits I had with him [your father] in Washington.”
- [The gold piece incident occurred in 3/34 while on a trip to Arizona; he said it was his own mother who appeared and handed it to him. I can’t seem to find the written account of this experience.
GD’s later note: See EC’s ltr. in re 3/34 experience noted in 294-161, Par. R19. It was a silver dollar and happened in New Mexico pasture.]
