This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of December, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [768], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., through her sister, Miss [630].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and L. B. Cayce.]
Born May 15, 1916, between 12:00 noon and 1:30, in Pensacola, Florida. Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama. (Life Reading Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the entity here, and those relations with the universe and the universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the present entity, called [768].
-
As to the influences that affect this body (in the material experience), we find these arise very much - it might be termed - as a picturization of a bud’s growth out of its normal environment, but cared for, tended in such manners as to make that which may either become a very beautiful or a stunted plant - or a growing backward of that purposed from within.
-
First, from the astrological sojourns, we find these do not conform altogether with that which is accredited to even those influences of the planetary sojourns or the environs about the earth (and this would be one that might be visualized or drawn on from an entirely different angle).
-
These, however, are the inclinations as we find that may be interpreted from the planetary environ:
-
Mercury, with the afflictions in Mars, makes for the mental expressions and experiences that are innate in the entity’s material expression. Yet in the attempts often of the entity to give that expression of its experience in mental development, it is slow in such measures and manners as to often be termed by others as being dull. Yet innately and within self the mental experience and the abilities of the entity are there! but fail at times to find expression (unless the entity gets very mad, and then it can tell you just what it thinks of you!).
-
From the experiences In Venus, we find that love, kindness, gentleness, may bring out that which is best in the entity’s self, innately - and in the abilities to DO things. And while affection is a portion of the entity’s inner self, this to the entity must be rather a bubbling over than just words or expressions. Hence we see conflicting influences in the entity’s experience, partaking of that which is in the manifested form both good and bad. Yet the entity and those about the entity will find that when the body-mind is fired, as it were, by some special deep desire for an activity on the part of the body, or by anger - as being riled by someone else, the better and greater expressions of abilities for manifestations arise in the entity’s experience. Not, then, that the entity should be continually making self mad - or that others about self should continue to produce such experiences for the entity, but rather with the high deep purposefulness that arises from having sought, having made determinations within the own self - and being impelled by the very will of self for the mental forces to be made, as it were, in a systematic manner - attain to those inner urges that arise as INNATE influences in the entity. For, we will find, while the entity goes to extremes at times, much of these arise from the inability to have drawn upon the environmental influences in the material plane to supply from same in the physical body as perfect a balanced condition in the physical as there should be. Hence in the physical we would add those elements that would bring a greater quantity not of animal influence by the emanations from same, but the higher, greater quantity of those vitamin influences that may be had from taking internally beef juices - without the meat; and the vitamins in cod liver oil; yet tempering same with that compound from the activities of the elements within the body itself known as Tonicine, to change those vibrations as to make the normal activities in the relationships to the organs of the body. These will be MOST helpful.
-
As to the appearances in the earth, there are not a great many that influence in the present; yet there will be found that - if the changes are wrought in the physical and material surroundings - the expressions and abilities will be magnified and other sojourns will become a portion of the entity’s experience in the present.
-
First, as we will see, for the better vibrations of self - and the relationships during those sojourns in the earth that have affected and do affect the body in the present experience - it would be a great advantage, and make for that which would be more helpful in all of the entity’s associations or connections, to change the name to Marge Louise.
-
Before this we find the entity was in the lands of the present nativity, when there were the settlings of the land, and when there were the agreements and pacts being made between those people who were the dwellers in the land during that experience.
-
The entity was among those of the household and family of one Clausen, and in the name Marg - Maggie - Margie - called Mag.
-
In the experience the entity, from the material things, lost; in the spiritual and mental gained. For by the very activities and associations there were FEARS created in the body and mind through the associations and happenings in relationships to others of various characters and tribes, and the relationships to the opposite sex. And these have brought, with the present experience, some fears that are DEEP in the innate experiences of the entity. Not that these should be cast aside, yet if there will be builded in the material conditions of the body - through the types of suggestions - that strength which is so often sought, the abilities to find expressions in the activities of self in out of door games, in associations of various kinds where an athletic expression is sought - much of this will be overcome, and there may be the entering into such with such a way and manner as to overcome much of the PHYSICAL fear that exists in the innate experience from that sojourn.
-
From the experience also the entity gains the expression in self for the study of those things that are of special interest when the entity is alone. Not that it does not desire companionship - for the fear itself calls for companionships in every way and in every expression; yet when there are decisions, when there is to be the better understanding of those things it would read, those things it would contemplate, those things that it would make the most of in self’s expressions or self’s experience, these had best and are best done alone.
-
Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Persian or Arabian, during those periods when there were the gatherings of many to the city in the hills and plains.
-
The entity then was of those peoples that were of the very tribes or bands of the leader in that experience. Suffering under anxiety, persecution, turmoils, the entity - for the very safety sake in body - sought and came under those experiences when there were the seekings of an understanding in the mental and material and spiritual things. And the entity, in the name Tulegeue, made the associations with the leaders that had been set upon the own tribes, and yet aided in bringing to them a more perfect understanding, in the nursing, in the helping, of those that were ill in body, in mind, of those that had been unable to overcome prejudices that had arisen by those very activities among those peoples.
-
In the present from that experience there is the ADAPTABILITY of self in being an aid and a help as a nurse, or in things pertaining to the records of such things. And in this field of activity may the entity find the greater expressions of self; not only for the developments of the abilities innate and natural within self but for the preparations for the surroundings and environs in the days and the experience to come in the earth in this sojourn.
-
Before that we find the entity was in that land now known as the Egyptian, during those periods of sojourn when there were the activities as to distributing and classifying as to the aiding of many through the tenets of the emissaries, the missionaries that were sent to the varied lands.
-
The entity during the experience was among those that were as the messengers that went from place to place to aid in the rebuilding and strengthening, in body and in mind, those that were acting in the capacity of teachers and aiders in the varied environs, being in the name then of Maggge.
-
In the present from that sojourn there are the abilities not only to keep secrets but to be rather reserved, and a good listener; yet with the body-mind developed, with the environs about self altered by the changes that naturally arise from same, much may the entity gain by the capacities of that experience being manifested in the activities in the present.
-
Then, as the the abilities of the entity and that to which it may attain, and how:
-
First the physical, then the inner self, then the seeking for what is its ideal. Then we may find that in those activities of the preparations for self for the caring for those who are ill, or in keeping the records of same, or in those things that pertain to the ARTISTIC temperaments from other sojourns, the entity may bring into the experience that which will make for the greater mental and soul development of the entity Marge Louise - […] Margaret - […].
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Just what specific line of work should she take up in college for her best advancement? (A) That which will enable her to act in the secretarial direction, or that which is inclined towards kindred subjects.
-
We are through for the present.
Copy to Self ” ” Ass’n file (GD’s note: See directions [which were enclosed] for making pure beef juice.
We would suggest that you take the cod liver oil in the form of White’s Cod Liver Oil tablets, as directed on bottle.
The Tonicine is prepared by Reed & Carnrick, Jersey City, N.J., but I think you can get it from any drug store.)

R1. 1/31/35 Sister [630]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Our correspondence has become sorta one-sided, hasn’t it? I don’t see, myself, why, when we think of you so much, we don’t go ahead and write what we think…
Marge Louise was delighted with her reading after we got our heads together and discussed it the best we could. She rather expected (I think) to be told that she used to be Cleopatra or somethin’, and have lots of former incarnations mentioned, so of course, felt a little let down when she got a physical reading.
You know, I suspected that it would be a Physical - and am pleased that it was. It showed her that she was on the right track so far as cod-liver oil was concerned, as she has been concentrating on building herself up lately. The Tonicine is a good thing for we knew there was not such good coordination so far as her glands were concerned but we didn’t know what to do about that.
She has been religiously following the suggestions, but of course there are not results yet, other than the fact that her skin is clearer and firmer. Yesterday she complained a little and I stopped the cod-liver oil for a day to see if that was the trouble. It is true that after a time it is hard to assimilate. But she will go back to that tomorrow.
If you remember the physical reading before [786-1] told her to study artistic things, history and languages, I believe, and this one said a Secretarial course and nursing, which is entirely the opposite. Now she loves languages immensely, can’t draw or play well but has the appreciation for such things, as mentioned, but she has never even tho’t of a secretarial job or nursing. Do you suppose this will change with health improvement? And should she prepare herself for these anyhow, even tho other incarnations should dominate her life?
She has asked me to write you for her since she is swamped with school work, and she will write you later, but she wants you to write and discuss the reading fully with her, and explain things that you think she might not understand.
For instance, the fact is mentioned that she is like a “bud’s growth out of its normal environment” and that she is “tended in such MANNERS”, etc. Is she misplaced with us and are we caring for her erroneously? Should we check that to find out exactly where the trouble is?
She didn’t mention these questions to me. They are my own inquiries, tho I suppose she thought about it. You see I believe she felt a little despondent and discouraged or embarrassed about it until I discussed the reading thoroughly with her. Then she like it all right, but we want your version.
The first paragraph on page #2 [768-4, Par. 6] says “We see conflicting influences in the entity’s experience, partaking of that which is in the manifested form both GOOD AND BAD.” How can we tell what these influences are? Then it says “she goes to extremes at times from inability to have drawn upon the environmental influences in the material plane to supply a perfect balanced condition.” Is that something WE can overcome, or does she have to do that herself as her condition improves and she contacts more outside interests?
Can You give her any information on Clausen? What pamphlets or information you might have regarding her former incarnations mentioned in the reading, send her, and I will pay you for them next month (about the ones I wrote for you inquired about in your last letter - forget it, and I will send you more money for them later. I want to discuss MY reading with you.).
If you are too busy, and this should have gone to Miss Gladys or some one else, just turn it over to them to answer.
Much love to you all. Will write of other things that are on my mind, at a little later date.
Sincerely, [630]
R2. 2/19/35 HLC’s ltr. to Miss [630]:
Your letter of January 31, has not received my father’s attention because he has been in Washington, D.C. for several weeks. As he will not return before the 25th of 26th I am taking the liberty of answering some of your questions from my point of view. I expect that my father will write your sister direct, so I’m writing you in order that we may discuss your sister’s reading from an impersonal angle - you with a deep interest in the individual through personal relation and I with an interest based on the depth and technicalities of the information.
Before turning to your questions there are a few general points to consider. Your sister’s readings can not be considered separately. You will notice that in her physical reading there is considerable mention of her mental and spiritual abilities, while in her life reading there is reference to physical conditions and even suggestions for treatment. This is unusual. Physical readings are generally devoted entirely to the physical and life readings devoid of physical suggestions. It is apparent that her physical condition seriously hampers the full and complete expression of the innate soul talents. While this is to some extent true with us all I believe that you will find that your sister possesses some unusual talent or ability developed in an appearance referred to but not discussed in her readings. The statement regarding the “Bud’s growth out of its normal environment” indicates this condition. It might have been worded a little differently. Here is a soul encased in a physical shell where certain physical conditions have prevented the complete expression of the mental so as to cut off and turn aside impulses that would naturally have come to the entity and brought to it more moving inner impulses. Perhaps this is worse than the first statement. I hope not though. Next, I want to call you attention to the last paragraph in the life reading. Here, three steps are outlined for the proper development of the greater abilities of the entity - (1) physical; (2) the inner self; (3) the seeking for the ideal. Development is a constant journey - never a reaching of the goal. We all must take each step, on at a time.
As you point out your sister’s first physical reading indicated certain artistic tendencies. In fact it was very specific and mentioned that writing pertaining to the imaginative forces of the body would open the way for the greatest development. I would understand that the interpretations of art in any form, music, painting, architecture, etc. would be the best field. In other words the art critic. As plays were mentioned definitely this talent might also take a turn towards the production of any imaginative production, but in any form would tend toward the interpretation of events, conditions, or things for others.
Now the life reading evidently draws from certain developments from the Persian period and perhaps too from the Egyptian. Yet here also occurs the reference to the “artistic temperaments from other sojourns.” There is evidently open to her two courses. A choice need not be made until she is fully aware of he influences form the other incarnation mentioned which will doubtless become active with the overcoming of the physical conditions and the turning within self to understand the inner self. Then before any decision as to life work is entered upon the ideal should be set and all activity in mind and body made to conform to it.
The conflicting influences referred to in paragraph one on page two [768-4, Par. 6] of the life reading and about which you have a question evidently have to do with the influences from Venus resulting in tangles, misunderstandings, and emotional flurries. Some of these will be good, some bad. You will be able to recognize such influences by the results. From the reading I would imagine that your sister should not be controlled by restrictions too much, but rather encouraged constructively, especially as she begins to give expression to the imagination - and she will, or may already.
You ask another question about a part of the same paragraph referring to the environmental influences and the balanced condition. These definitely, I think, concern the physical condition which has affected the power of the mental body to drawn properly from its surroundings. This condition should be removed entirely with the correction of the physical body.
The experience in the household of Clausen was evidently not entirely pleasant. I do not believe that we would be stretching our imagination too far if we concluded that she was captured by the Indians during that period and suffered at their hands. Would it be going too far to conclude that a love of nature and the out-of-doors as related to physical exercise at that period was the saving influence? The suggestions as to the way of overcoming the physical fear innate within the body point to this. I am sorry that we do not have more definite material on the circumstances surrounding this period. If the section of the country could be located a great deal of parallel material would doubtless be available. Your sister `hould try recalling some of her experiences. It would be easy for her - with details.
Copies of the Atlantean and Egyptian histories went out to you this morning. Your sister will find the Egyptian history of special interest. The Persian history (which will be sent you at an early date) will give something on the appearances from which she gets her ability for nursing or keeping records for same.
Secretarial work would not be out of keeping with either of the two paths open before your sister. For a writer such training would certainly be helpful and the nursing tends towards the keeping of records, so in either case I would think it advisable as a first step.
I have spent many pleasant hours in conversation with your brother [311] on almost every subject. It is a pleasure to undertake a discussion with his sister though the medium of the letter is not so satisfactory as a conversation. Please feel free to present any further questions, and do not be disturbed by any differences in opinion, for mine is juts a point of view.
With the kindest personal regards to you all, I am
Sincerely yours, Hugh Lynn Cayce
R3. 6/35 Miss [768] sent in her signed Active Member ballot for nominating new A.R.E. trustees.
R4. 7/27/36 Letter from [630] to EC: ”…After hearing from you on this, I want you to arrange for [768] another reading, and I would like to have your advice as to whether it should be a check-life or check-physical. You know her life reading turned out to be a physical reading more or less, and she is extremely anxious to have another one. She has a number of questions to ask, when you let her know when and what kind to have…”
R5. 7/30/36 Letter from EC to [630]: ”…As for the reading for [768] the check life is very helpful in getting certain periods outlined with the present, and as to how best to fit them in. Just went to look over her life reading, and think it might be well to have it as questions on her life reading, that might clarify the whole lot of information. Believe would try it from that angle, she may find some new experiences coming in now. They do once and a while, for of course not all of them are given at once, but the ones that effect the experience at the time…”
R6. 9/17/40 Letter from [2843] (written by [630]) to EC: ”…I think [768] could use a new Life reading to advantage now. Her last one was turned into a physical you remember…”
R7. 5/49 Mother [2843]‘s letter to HLC: “In going through some old papers I find you letter of 12/11/47 regarding the A.R.E.’s present activities. This letter was awaiting me on my return to …, Ala. early in Jan. and learned the meeting was held in… My husband passed away in 8/47 and I was in …, Tenn. with [768] (Now MRS. […]) until [630] returned from Japan where she and her husband, Major […] had been stationed since the end of the war. They were transferred to Calif. and we hurriedly packed all my personal effects and came out to this base. It has taken us until now to gradually work through all my correspondence.
“It was with deepest regret and realization of a great loss to the world that we learned of Mr. Cayce’s passing away. We knew he had gone to Florida for his health and hoped he would recover. I am so happy that you have elected to stay with the Association work and trust that great progress is being made.”
