Time of Reading 10:50 to 11:05 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.J.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [777].
-
Now, as we find, the disturbing conditions in the physical forces of the body are rather from a complication of disturbing factors and thus produce many effects that are often taken for the cause. And thus the applications have at times (and the more often so) been only palliative measures in bringing about better conditions.
-
While these disturbing factors are in some respects hidden, and the effects are the more prominent, if there will be carried out those measures for the correction of the causes, we will find many of these conditions will disappear - and much that is the more helpful be the activities in the body.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [777] we are speaking of (at home, etc.):
-
In the BLOOD SUPPLY we find evidences of a poor elimination as well as a distinct disturbance in the various channels of elimination, evinced by the rash that at times appears on the forehead, portions of the body, and the general conditions that arise from same. Also we find the torpidity of the liver, the pressures or conditions that affect through the activities in the kidneys, these are as indications of a disturbance that makes for distresses for the body.
-
Also in the NERVOUS SYSTEM do we find disorders arising from some SPECIFIC reactions, and also conditions (as the rash) that at times arise from the nervous condition; as do the effects to the sensory organism. These, of course, as we find, would require a change in the applications - but these first, and then we may bring for these disorders a much nearer normal condition.
-
As to the functioning of the ORGANS themselves, as we find there has been for some time back those pressures existent in the lower dorsal area - 10th, 11th, 12th dorsal. These have made for gradually a turning, or the activity of the axis of the lower portion of the body to become more and more the distressed area. And gradually those conditions have builded the effects that have been indicated in the organs of the eliminations; as to the pressures and disturbance in the circulation, as to the reactions in the sympathetics and of the sensory forces to the organs of the sympathetic system - as in head and neck and eyes and ears and throat. All of these are the EFFECTS of these conditions; contributed to, of course, by the various changes that have been brought about from time to time in the body.
-
From these same conditions we have had disturbances with the feet and the lower limbs, that have caused a great deal of disorder. This not at all times, but these have made for distresses in the system.
-
Then, in meeting the needs of these conditions, as we will find, it will require some persistence and a great deal of consistent reactions on the part of the body.
-
First we would have the corrections made in the lumbar and the coccyx area, and especially in the lower dorsal - as we have indicated; the adjustments in the coccyx, the lumbar and lower dorsal area; and a massage, of course, that would make for the coordination. These we would have done chiro- practically, RATHER than osteopathically; for the pressures are the conditions that affect the body. The adjustments would be made EACH day for a period of six to ten days. Then rest or leave off for a period of three to four days. Then have another adjustment period. Continue in this manner until we have taken at least three rounds of the adjustments, see?
-
Also, once each week, we would take a specific exercise, with the salt rum rubs following same. First we would have a sweat, but keeping - of course - the temperature of the body in such a shape and manner as to PREVENT an overtaxation to the circulatory system or to the heart’s activity; so do not raise the temperature too high. Following same we would have the salt rum rubs, that will make for a change in the circulatory system; not too heavy, so as to be irritating. At times this may make for an irritation to the tendency for the rash on the body; but we would keep this in order by using palliative rubs following same, using an equal combination of Olive Oil, tincture of Myrrh and Russian White Oil. Heat the oil to add the myrrh. Shake these together, for they will tend to separate at times. Massage over all the cerebro-spinal system, especially, and over the general portions of the extremities and over the body. This will make for a great deal of change, and be most helpful. This would be done once each week, you see; first the bath, then the salt rum rub, and then the massage with the oils.
-
As to the diet, be very mindful that we keep the tendency toward an alkalin reaction. One meal each day should consist of quantities of green or fresh raw vegetables. These may all be combined together in a salad. And we would beware of white breads of any kind, too much Irish potatoes; also beware of red meats or fried foods of any kind.
-
And then after the third period, we would give further instructions.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would you suggest one to give the chiropractic treatments correctly, according to the directions just given? (A) One of the chiropractic school; especially of the Philadelphia school.
-
We are through for the present.

(See letter [which was enclosed] with directions to a chiropractor - of your own choice.
See letter [which was enclosed] to a hydrotherapist with directions for sweats, rubs, etc. Some chiropractors might have in their offices facilities for giving such treatments. If not, you would get your chiropractic treatments from one place and your sweats, etc., from another.
The Alkalin-Reacting Food List [which was enclosed] might be of help to you, as it seems the main portion of your diet should consist of these.
Let us know when you have followed the treatments for the period of three rounds with the chiropractor, as indicated, so we may make an appointment for your check reading to give further directions. GD.)

R1. 1/8/35 Letter to EC from Mr. [777]:
Mr. Edgar Cayce c/o Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have gone over your reading carefully and believe that, with minor exceptions, you have hit the spots very well.
About seven years ago I had a severe heart attack, which the doctors pronounced coronary thrombosis, and since then I have been quite inactive, as I find I have to be quite careful in undertaking any stress whatever. My principal exercise is short walks.
Constipation has been a source of trouble and worry to me, as you outline. I, however, have had no rash at any time, and no trouble with my feet. At times I have some pains in my thighs, not severe but enough to be noticed.
I shall be very glad, indeed, to start with a chiropractor as soon as I can find a suitable man, as you outline. I am wondering whether my heart condition will stand the hydrotherapist massages you suggest, and would be glad to hear from you on this before I undertake it. I doubt, also, whether there is a man doing this work in …, and if you feel that I can stand this work and it would be of considerable aid to me, I will be glad if you will advise me of a man not too far away from say Elizabeth or Newark, preferably; or, if you know of no one in either of these places, I could make it to New York.
Do you advise having a chiropractor treat my neck for the improvement of the eye condition, or is it your intention that the work of a hydrotherapist will take care of this?
Thanking you for your early reply, and with kind regards, I am
Yours very truly, [777]
R2. 1/11/35 Letter to Mr. [777] from EC:
Mr. [777] …, N.J.
My dear Mr. [777]:
I am just in receipt of yours of January 8th. I am glad to know you feel the information may be of some help.
I do not know any practitioner, either in Elizabeth or Newark. In Newark you have a great number of osteopaths who are members of the American Association. Any of these might be able to do just what is necessary for you. You have even in your own city several that I am sure might be able to handle the case, and you could refer them to Dr. Watson John H. Watson, D.O.], at Asbury Park, who has been and is taking care of your brother. This, I believe now, would be the best way to handle this.
The hydrotherapy massage, if handled properly, Mr. [777], should be more than able to take care of the constipation, and there need be no cause for it working against the heart trouble, or “thrombosis”. I am sure any one of the osteopaths will tell you this would be a helpful thing for that pressure that no doubt has been the cause or the basis of the heart disturbance, especially by removing the disturbance that arises from the constipation.
While I understand chiropractors and osteopaths are not the same, I am very sure that any good osteopathic physician can do as well (many think better) as a chiropractor. It is very seldom that we have ever had the suggestion given for the chiropractor. I hope, though, this will work out quite well. It might be the best thing for you to ask Dr. Watson to make his suggestion as to whether you could use Dr. Bartlett [Fred O. Bartlett, Jr., D.O.], of your city, or Lynch or Miller [Frank Miller, D.O.], and he will no doubt tell you. Any of these should be able to take care of the condition in the neck that has disturbed the eyes.
Be sure and let us hear from you, and hoping this will work out all right, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:MD
R3. 2/21/35 Letter to EC from Mr. [777]:
Mr. Edgar Cayce C/o Association for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I want to report that I have taken several chiropractic treatments [from J. L. Chickering, D.C.] but was compelled to give them up due to illness.
I was down with the grippe for several weeks, and am now preparing to leave for Florida to spend the month of March. When I return I hope to take up treatments again and will report to you after I have had the number you prescribed for me.
I know you will be interested to learn that the X-ray I had taken of my back showed the exact trouble in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth dorsals that your reading described. It seems almost unbelievable that a reading at a distance could be given so accurately, and I want to state that I am very proud to tell my friends of your wonderful work.
With cordial greetings, I am
Sincerely yours, [777]
R4. 4/17/35 He referred Mr. [896] for Physical Rdg.
R5. 4/30/35 Letter to EC from Mr. [777]:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have been back for 30 days from my Winter vacation and took up chiropractor treatments as well as the vapor bath. I thought possibly you would want to give me another reading now to get your opinion as to how I am progressing.
I believe that I am holding my own fairly well, tho I have taken no heart medicine for the past 3 months. Sometimes I feel as tho I ought to take some digitalis. One of my great troubles that I have been unable to improve very much is poor elimination. I am now trying out yeast cakes, but not with very good results.
I shall be glad to hear from you at your convenience.
Cordially yours, [777]
R6. 5/6/35 Letter to EC from Mr. [777]:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
The appointment you have made for me for Thursday the 9th between 3 and 4 Eastern Standard Time is agreeable. I will be in my office at … St., …, N.J.
I would like to ask whether I should take any Theocalcium or Digitalis. I might say that I have not taken any in about 2 1/2 or 3 months.
Do you advise any increased physical or mental activities? - ocean bathing, garden-work, such as weeding or cutting the grass. I have done none of this since I had the heart attack 6 years ago.
Mr. [896] expressed himself as being very highly pleased with your reading, and he said he is awaiting the results of a few more treatments before communicating with you.
Awaiting to hear from you, I am
Cordially yours, [777]
I am enclosing my check $10.
R7. 5/9/35 See 777-2, advising him NOT to take the Digitalis or Theocalcium.
R8. 8/5/35 He wrote: “I am in better health than in years!”
