Christian) This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of January, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [778], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:20 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ga. (Body and enquiring mind, now living in …, Ga., and her Life Rdg. given thru these sources on June 11, 1927. You will give a Check Life Rdg. for her and answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them.)

1. EC: Yes. Ready for questions.

2. (Q) To be an exponent of Astrology, is this my proper Life work? (A) This is indicated at least as being a part of the Life’s work. Writing on such subjects and aiding others in their spiritual and mental development should be a portion of, or may be combined with this as, a life’s work.

3. (Q) I dislike immensely the commercializing of my astrological knowledge; is there any way I could contact the proper parties and funds so that I could give my whole time to research astrology? (A) Only through the making of contacts where this might be used as a feature, or from the radio, or some such means for the immediate commercializing of the activity to supply - through such an association - sufficient amount. This may be either with the manufactures of perfumes or toilet articles - the making for the association towards those tendencies in that direction; or it may be an association in such ways and manners as to make for the ABILITIES of the body to carry on in such research work.

4. (Q) Who is the best publishing firm to bring out my book on “Astrological World Cycles and Ages”? (A) This would be found to be better from some of the publishers in England first, rather than America; though - as we find - it may be carried through the American representative of the Henry Holt Company.

5. (Q) My original Life Rdg. stated that “in the 34th year… the entity will be among those of royalty”. I am now 34. What did this statement about royalty mean? (A) That there should be those associations by the traveling, or the journeyings in the various associations, as to bring this about.

6. (Q) Should I attempt to interest wealthy people in founding an Astrological Research Institute? If so, what people? (A) As we find, this is not as yet the proper time when this interest may be aroused sufficiently; but must be a component part of a unified movement on such subjects - which should be BEGUN, and may be begun by this body, and then made a part of the entity’s life work in research.

7. (Q) Should I plan on a trip to India within the next few years? (A) In the next three to four years this should become a part of the whole activity, as indicated above that there is the time now for the interesting of those who will make for a more unification of all the questionable researches into the varied activities. This may be done, or begun, through the manner that has been indicated.

8. (Q) My Life Rdg. stated that “between the 33rd and and 43rd years…come the greater changes, the greater eccentricity of change, more unusual than would be ordinary in an individual life”. (A) This hasn’t been changed, as we find, and will come in the developments and the activities of the entity in relationships to those things that are being made a part of the association of the entity, as yet.

9. (Q) Just what did this mean? (A) Greater changes in all of the associations, all of the activities, all of the EFFORTS, and those fields of activity in which the entity would be engaged.

10. (Q) My Life Rdg. states “As to that of the weakness of the entity, this is along those lines of the misunderstanding of others as respecting the entity’s intent and purpose, whether as toward friend or foe.” I do not understand this meaning. (A) As indicated, whether in friendships, foes or acquaintances, there has been and is that within the manner and mien of the entity which tends to cause or to produce misunderstandings. ANALYZE self for a second, with its associations whether in the purely material, the research, the activities, the printer, the baker, the candlestick maker or the meat man - and you’ll see!

11. (Q) What is my worst fault? Am I too retiring and reclusive? (A) This may not be said to be a fault. But the worse fault is that just given.

12. (Q) Should I take up the study of music - piano - again in order to help my daughter in her musical education? (A) This would be very good.

13. (Q) Does any danger threaten me at any time in life from the man to whom I was formerly engaged to be married? (A) We do not find it so.

14. (Q) Is there any definite financial future for me in writing on astrological and philosophic subjects? (A) Dependent upon those activities in the directions as indicated, and in the writings in relationships to those combinations that may come from such an association. In broadcast, see?

My dear Mr. Cayce,

“Please accept my grateful thanks for the Check Life Reading you sent me and which I found very encouraging and helpful. It is indeed good of you to find time for me in the midst of your many duties and services to others, and I deeply appreciate it.

“My mother has not been feeling very well lately and I have been asking her to send to you for a Physical Reading.

“Your possible trip to Atlanta early this year was pleasant news to me and I have given it considerable thought. This is a large city and it would seem advisable that you visit it with your message. Then you will be in position to judge whether it deserves your further attention. It is a very orthodox city, with little interest in the occult or more unusual aspects of life and thought. Even international lecturers on such subjects, who can command large audiences elsewhere, do not find a good response in Atlanta. Krishnamurti, W. L. Rogers, ex-president of the Theosophical Society, Dr. Homer Curtiss and many others of like fame, have had very small audiences here. I have never received due consideration of my astrological services here, and depend mostly on written readings for people in other states. People simply are not interested, and those that are either cannot or will not pay reasonable sums for the work required.

“The one person who is best fitted, by experience and knowledge, to present you here is Mrs. Elizabeth King who has a Center here and presents lecturers on all sorts of occult subjects every month. Yet for some reason she is extremely prejudiced against you and altho she has read your literature and has listened to my praises, yet she has refused to offer any help. I suppose you are used by now to this sort of prejudice due to ignorance and will not feel too badly about it.

“The only other person I can think of who might be useful to you is Mrs. W. E. Bates, leader of the Spiritualistic Church here, 1485 Lakewood Ave, S.E., Atlanta, Ga. Her phone is Main 5439. I phoned her this morning and she said she would be glad to present you before her church members if you gave her an opportunity to study your literature and see your type of work. Will you please mail her your pamphlet describing your life, and whatever other literature you deem necessary, together with a letter outlining your plan in coming here? I have never met her but she sounded very pleasant and fair-minded over the phone.

“There may be other people or Centers who would like to have you address their members here but if so, I do not know of them. The pressure of work which is always around me, and not having anyone to leave with the baby, while my husband is at law school nearly every night, has always made it impossible for me to make any social contacts or to “run around” to the different teachers and Centers here even if I had the wish to do so.

“The possibility of establishing a Study Group here will depend of course on the interest aroused and whether or not you can get a suitable person with the time and talent to organize it. There may be just such a person here, awaiting you, and no harm to make a trial to see the outcome. There is no question but that your message would be of intense interest to thousands here and would help many, but the walls of prejudice and misunderstanding are so thick even in this age - so far advanced in other ways - that those very ones who need your message most will not even listen to it. Miss King, even, of whom I expected more understanding, cannot overcome her prejudices enough to give you a fair trial. You remember, she is the old lady who gave me a reading on my supposed incarnations which strangely linked up with a reading given Paul Whiteman’s (or was it Vincent Lopez’s?) friend. Anyhow, we must not be discouraged for we never know from what unexpected source good response may come. All of us who have departed from the orthodox paths of life must feel the weight of public indifference to some extent. There are compensations.

“I was happy to know that the automobile accident had no serious consequences. Astrologically speaking, your wife is the one who attracts accidents in transit - oddly enough

• enough, on any business connected with brothers in particular! Accidents for her will always tend to “go to her head” (Aries). I think from her chart if she were not protected by superior forces, thru the nature of the spiritual work she is in, that she would have met her end thru accident before this.

“I don’t think there will be any difficulty with the authorities if you come under the sponsorship of some reputable organization here; I have never read of any of them here getting into trouble. Gypsies and such frequently get into trouble but usually they deserve it.

“Will send you back all the stuff [531] sent, in due time. We have recently moved to another house in … and almost froze to death before we could make the proper heating arrangements - we had previously been in a furnace-heated apt. and did not know what we were undertaking to move to a house equipped only with grates! Today I got our radiant gas heater installed and hope to get to work on my readings, am about a month behind in my work and hardly know what to do first. Truly I wonder what it would seem like to have one day of leisure and to feel I was caught up, for once!

“All well here, didn’t even catch a cold, any of us, thru some miracle. Trusting all is well with you and yours and that the new year will bring you many good things,”

My dear Mr. Cayce,

“I have been meaning for a long time to write you but you know how it is. The idea just came forcibly to my mind this afternoon to get in touch with you and so I am following that inspiration.

“First, for some news about me. I came out here to my mother’s home last November and divorced my husband soon after. So now my daughter [398] and I are living here, and have no further connection with […]. My ex-husband [1932] and myself are on the best of friendly terms.

“A few months ago I became engaged to marry a very fine, extraordinary man, Scottish like myself. He is a famous artist, painter of the royal families of Europe and the world.

“In this connection, I would like to say something about the Life Reading you gave me some years ago. In it, you said that about my 34th year I would become associated with royalty. I may say that my own birth-chart tells the same story, and many times I have wondered why the “royal” or kingly stars should have been so powerfully accented at my birth, clearly indicating a life associated is some way with royalty. I have never felt any particular interest in royalty, nor could I imagine in what way I would become associated with them. However, time explains these mysteries, and since meeting […] - my fiance - I understood that it would be thru my second marriage that my life would be expanded onto a far different field than my previously restricted life. You also indicated these changes in your Life Reading for me, and said that great changes would enter my life, “more unusual than is found in the average life, particularly from the 34 to 43 years”. I am now 35.

“I would also like to tell you that from an astrological viewpoint, the charts of […] and myself are more harmonious than any two charts I have ever looked at, really extraordinary harmony and deep karmic ties are there indicated.

“I have become much interested in Christian Science this last year. Of course its message is not any different from that of the Hindu Scriptures and in fact all great religions

• “to know God is to know all” - but it seems to me that Mrs. Eddy prepared her version of the truth with such care and simplicity that it is easier to grasp and follow than most religions.

My dear friend Mr. Cayce,

“Many thanks for your last letter and for all the kind thots of my friends back there. I have never had any further word from […] since he first wired me that he would have to go abroad, and so I have dismissed the whole matter from my mind and feel that I have been protected from what might have been a very unwise step on my part. It occurs to me that the birth date he give me is probably not his true birth date at all, and for that reason, you were not able to contact any information about him.

“Well we all make mistakes and if I were mistaken in my estimate of him, I cheerfully admit it and believe I have learned much from this experience. So that is that and I have now dropped the whole matter from my mind.

“For quite a long time I have been dissatisfied with using Astrology for a livelihood and have now discontinued it as professional work.

“I have an 8-to-5 job here now, and next week I leave for Los Angeles to undertake some very arduous work, and so very reluctantly I have to say that I cannot take on the editing of your study group manual, at this time. Your mention of Miss [813] in your last letter reminds me of her as a possible person to undertake the editing.

“If not, I can recommend Mrs. Marion Crawford, 1448 Park Road, Washington, D.C. as a friend of mine (student of Astrology in my … classes) who has an excellent command of English and is familiar with philosophic terms, etc. I am sure she would be glad to do the work if she has the time. She does not work but has a family. (Now that last sentence is really very funny).

“I had a letter from India recently from my Teacher, Swami Yogananda, whose magazine Inner Culture I used to send you. He has had a wonderful triumphant return to India after 14 years’ work in this country, and is returning here soon.

“My sister and her husband returned here yesterday from 14 months tour around the world and of course we were all delighted to see them.

“We are both well ([398] and myself) and hope the same is true of all the Cayces. Wishing you all good things and with love,” [778]
