This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of January, 1936, in accordance with request made by the self, through her husband, Mr. [2784], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Estella Smith, Jack Tobin, Jr., and Hugh Lynn Cayce.]
Time of Reading 11:35 to 11:50 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Washington, D.C. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [808]; this we have had before.
-
In the present we find that acute conditions have arisen. The effects are exhibited in the inflammation of the mucous membranes through the head, congestions through the eliminating canals, the tendencies for the mucous membranes in the throat, the head, in the chest, to give pain - or an inflammation and a natural tendency towards a plethoric condition.
-
Thus, we must not only make applications to overcome these influences and make for destructive forces to the bacilli that produced same, but we must take precautions as to those conditions that may arise through an inflammation through the colon - as an EFFECT of these conditions being eliminated through the alimentary canal.
-
The temperature that comes is the effect of this inflammation, and the natural tendency for an increase in the flow of the leucocytes through affected portions by the cold germ.
-
Then, in meeting the conditions in the present:
-
First, remain quiet - or in bed; at least quiet, until there is no temperature at all.
-
Let the diet be principally the citrus fruit juices, or of the alkalin reactions in the system.
-
To quiet the mucous membranes and to relieve that tendency for irritation, or the cough, we would prepare a combination in these proportions (though a double quantity may be prepared at the time if desired, for it may be kept - and a dose taken two to three times a day):
-
Beat the white of an egg until it is very fluffy. Then, AS it has been fluffed, beat into same a teaspoonful of honey and the juice of a whole lemon. The dosage would be one to two to three teaspoonsful at a time.
-
This will work well with the digestive system, if the fruit juices and vegetable juices are used - and a little bit later beef juice, and then the semi-liquid foods; as the broth of chicken, or the broiled chicken or the like may be taken. [See Par. 20-A below.]
-
We would find the use of the Radio-Active Appliance to be helpful and beneficial.
-
In the next two or three days, we would have THIS compound prepared, in THIS manner, to meet those conditions that may arise - or will have the tendency to arise, and to allay disturbances through the colon and the alimentary canal:
-
Two 2 ounces of Strained Honey add 3 ounces of Distilled Water. Let this come to a boil; keep stirring at the time it is heating - not boiling too much, but this is just as the carrier. Then add to same:
Elixir - or a FUSION of the WILD GINSENG…1/2 ounce, Indian Turnip (a fusion or Elixir)…1/4 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/4 ounce, Syrup of Rhubarb…1/4 ounce, Horehound (the Syrup of)…1/2 ounce.
Add to this 1/2 ounce of Pure Grain Alcohol. The dose of this would be, not only for the mucous membranes of the throat and head but for the digestive system, a teaspoonful every three or four hours. Or, if there is a tendency for restlessness of evenings, or tendency more for the cough, this may be taken as often as an hour and a half to two hours apart.
-
We would have a general manipulation.
-
We would take a high enema.
-
And, as we find, these would make for - in a very short period (two to three days) - an alleviation and the ELIMINATION of these disturbing conditions.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes, and what will relieve, headaches? (A) The temperature and the inflammation. And these taken in the indicated way and manner will relieve the disturbance.
-
(Q) What about the eliminations? (A) These, of course, must be increased - as we have indicated - by the use of the enemas and the GENERAL manipulations.
-
(Q) What causes, and what will relieve, pains in stomach? (A) There is a drain upon the mucous membranes that supply the effluvia for the blood supply to create or produce an active force in the blood CELLS that are the warriors. The drain upon the system produces a tendency for contraction, and the inclination for the production of an acid condition. Hence those things as given as to the alkalinity for the system in its foods, as well as in those properties we are suggesting to be taken for the allaying of the inflammation in throat, through the whole of the alimentary canal, and these activities as we have indicated for the body.
-
(Q) What is the difference in taking into the system the white of an egg raw, and cooked? [See Par. 9, 10 above.] (A) That depends upon the system, and upon the manner and with what combinations it is taken.
For, as we have indicated for this body, it is not well that the white of the egg be taken, for it tends to make for an acid reaction. But when it is beaten very thoroughly first, and then the honey and the lemon added, the reactions are entirely different; for the properties in same not only react upon the body through the mucous membranes of the digestive forces but through the whole of the lymph circulation, also adding to the system a NECESSARY force that IS needed in the system for the assistance of coagulation of the lymph flow in the creation of the blood cells themselves. It is as the NATURAL reaction of the yolk of an egg. It isn’t that there should be all acid in any system, nor all alkaline; but it is the REACTION of these UPON the system that aids in CREATING the elements in the body, see? [See 808-4, Par. R1.]
- We are through for the present.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 1/29/36 [808]‘s letter to EC:
Washington Sanitarium and Hospital, Takoma Park, Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I’m enclosing check for reading which you gave me on the 22nd and I do ask your forgiveness for the delay in sending this. [2784] stayed home with me and didn’t have a chance to get to the bank. However, he had to go back to work yesterday because his work was piling up so he decided to bring me out here for a few days until I got my strength back. My temperature broke Monday and I have the medicine that you prescribed with me and take it as indicated. I’m on a diet out here of soft foods and mostly alkaline as you prescribed. I am so grateful to you and words fail to express my appreciation. I also appreciate your promptness in getting the reading to me. I was sure glad to get it. The medicine didn’t come until Saturday morning, but it was welcomed with open arms.
R2. 2/5/36 [808]‘s letter to EC & GC:
Washington D.C.:
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Cayce:
Received your letter last night [See [294] series] and was so sorry to hear that you have been ill, Mr. Cayce. [2784] said that if there were any thing possible that he could prescribe for you while you were ill, it would be a pleasure for him to do it. He doesn’t think it is fair that you can help other people that suffer, yet when you get sick, no one can help you. We were quite distressed, but do hope that you have entirely recovered by now. Let us know, will you, because we are worried about you.
I came home from the Sanitarium Tuesday night and I am now back to work. I’m feeling fine but thought I would have a set of those diathermy treatments that you had ordered before and also some sun treatments according to my first reading. It will help to build me up, I am sure. I have taken all the the medicine that you ordered for me, and I still take the lemon, white of egg, and honey. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate what you have done for me. It just doesn’t seem possible.
I want to mail this before lunch and it is time for me to go, so will write you again shortly. Please take care of yourself as we will be pulling for you and thinking about you.
With love to all, [808]
R3. 3/2/36 See Affidavit under 808-1 Reports which also gives report on speedy recovery from following treatment in 808-4 for what the doctors had diagnosed as intestinal influenza.
R4. 4/16/37 See 808-5.
R5. 11/9/65 Report from Albert E. Turner on using the white of egg-honey-lemon to cut phlegm: “For 3 hrs. I had been trying to get up phlegm - couldn’t talk for it. IMMEDIATELY on taking 3 teaspoonsful of the above mentioned combination the phlegm broke and I spit it up. Several hours later I had another spell with the phlegm and it worked again, though it took 2-3 minutes this time. Next morning all was clear
- no more trouble with it.”
