This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 25th day of May, 1938, in accordance with request made by the sister - Mrs. [678], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Mountain Time of Reading Sanatorium, 11:20 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. Fletcher, N.C. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, [843].

2. As we find, the acute conditions in the present are represented by the accumulations in the system of sediments that have formed into what is called gravel or stone, and in the attempt of same to be eliminated from the system.

3. While changes are apparent in the system from those things we have had before, these are the paramount conditions in the present.

4. We find that there has not been the full application, or in any portion - to any extent, of that which has been suggested for this acute condition.

5. With the rest that may be had, we find that the application of the Turpentine Stupes over the area as indicated would offer a means for causing a disintegrating of the stone sufficient for its passage without operative forces; because of the very nature of the penetrating influences of the Turp.

6. Of course, the Spirits of Turpentine would be used in very hot water, then cloths wrung out of this and changed often. The proportions would be about half a pint of Spirits of Turpentine to a quart or quart and a half of water.

7. Owing to the conditions, of course, the attempt to catheterize produces great pain. However, as yet we find there is not any irritation or abrasion sufficient to cause great disturbance; if there is occasionally injected through the urethra sufficient air for the prevention of adherence or stricture.

8. The irritation is the greater, of course, in those areas just below the bladder; while the sediments are in the tube [ureter] that leads to the bladder.

9. The stone has not increased but diminished somewhat, owing to the rest and lack of irritation.

10. As we find, if those suggestions are used as indicated, it MIGHT not be necessary for operative measures. Otherwise, it WILL be necessary.

11. Ready for questions.

12. (Q) If operation becomes necessary, would Dr. W. L. Grantham, Asheville, N.C., satisfactorily remove stone? If not, who? (A) As we find, Dr. Grantham would be efficient, and understands the situation sufficiently to handle it in the best way that it may be handled.

13. (Q) Is my right ureter blocked by a stone and is it functioning sufficiently for all practical purposes? (A) As has been indicated, it is in the tube leading to the bladder; with irritation in urethra.

As we find, if they would do as has been indicated, the necessity of operative forces might be avoided.

14. (Q) What is condition of bladder, kidneys and urethra? (A) The kidneys, as we have indicated heretofore, have naturally been involved with the inflammatory influences from the digestive system and irritation to the circulatory forces from the lower hepatic circulation. But these are secondary in the present, though necessarily must be considered in the whole condition.

As to bladder, this is very well; though it fills and causes a great deal of trouble, the natural inflammatory forces causing secretions to the area to be increased.

The urethra - as has been indicated - is irritated.

As we find, do as has been suggested for the better conditions.

If there is the continuation of the inflammation from the stone, do not wait until it has raised temperature and reduced the vitality of the body too much - but operate.

R1. 5/27/38 Sister [678]‘s letter: “Thank you with all my heart for your interest in my brother… The week before he went to Atlanta he already had his questions made out for a reading but he thought he needed mostly rest, as he has been working so hard the past few years since you helped him before. So he said he would get a reading after he had been at the Blackman Sanatorium a few days to see if all was well. But the doctors there suddenly found that stone in right ureter by x-ray and frightened him into having the stone disturbed at once. The doctors had already tried to remove stone before I knew anything about it. Am very glad they found the stone but the reading could have done the same and probably a little more information at the same time. I had another wire from my brother this morning saying he had received the second reading [843-5] and it certainly hit the nail on the head. He seemed so glad to get it. He also wrote me today that Dr. Brounsberger, in charge of Blackman Sanatorium where he now is, was in sympathy with your psychic work. I was more than delighted to hear that. I don’t know about Dr. Grantham, who will be the one to attempt to remove stone if it becomes necessary…

“I thought they might want another reading before another attempt is made to remove stone…

“I want you to know you have helped us more than I can tell you. My brother was frantic before you began to help.”

R2. 6/5/38 Sister [678]‘s letter: “Since I wrote you my brother went to his home in Asheville, stayed a few days and was taken with such a painful attack that when Dr. Grantham was called he took him to Mission Hospital and used the same method which was used in Atlanta to dilate the urethra so the stone would pass, but as yet the stone has not passed but is one inch (another x-ray showed) nearer the bladder than when the last x-ray in Atlanta showed. My brother is still suffering much pain and is about worn out. He is back at his home now… He was in the hospital only 3 days this last time. You know it costs so much in a hospital and he does not have the money. He has used the turpentine packs some but I doubt if they have been used enough. Somebody there seemed to think that 1/2 pint turpentine to 1 and 1/2 quarts hot water might be too strong…

“I wish he had a doctor who would really pay attention to the readings. When my brother gets desperate he clings to the readings. He wants another if he does not get better.”

R3. 6/9/38 Sister [678] wired for another reading, saying “He is still very ill” and wrote, with list of questions: “He is still suffering so much and does not know when the doctor might think it necessary to use that same method again to try to get the stone to pass…

“I know you will do your best for him. He is afraid the doctor might want to operate again before he gets the reading.”
