GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the condition you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existent condition, also the treatment for the cure and relief of this body. You will answer any questions I may ask you regarding this body.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, Mrs. [847]. Now, we find there are abnormal conditions with this body. Some of these conditions are of a specific nature and the resultant effect in the functioning of the physical system produces distresses at times with this body.
-
These conditions are of such nature as to produce conditions that are SEEMINGLY complex in the system. Hence has caused some varied effects and varied opinions as to that PRODUCING same.
-
These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [847] we are speaking of. First:
-
IN THE BLOOD SUPPLY, this we find deficient in the quality, and at times in the quantity, produced by the disturbance in the assimilating system and the effects as are produced in organs as govern the distribution through the system, as relating both to the excretory and secretive functioning of organs.
-
IN THE NERVE SYSTEM, this we find rather the seat or the main cause of disturbances in this body, for not ONLY are there specific conditions as prevent the normal impulse from nerve centers and plexuses, but there are also those conditions as become so involved as to produce in the sympathetic system such conditions as to produce reaction and retraction in such a manner as to cause SYMPATHETIC reaction, which produces or brings about apparently complications with the physical functions.
-
These, as we find, were produced in times back, or about the period of the second reaction in childbirth, and involved those conditions as have to do with the lower end of the system as relating to the solar plexus centers and the radial forces from those of the upper portion and lower portion of the locomotaries. Hence there has been those conditions wherein the system did not respond to voluntary reaction in a portion of the body. Bettered in SOME ways, for the system has attempted to abridge the reaction of the blood supply, as well as nerve energy to those portions of the system as is seen in the upper brachial plexus and in the lower part of the plexus as govern the lower locomotaries.
-
In the reaction of these to the digestive system, that of the hypogastric and pneumogastric both become involved, not only sympathetically but DIRECTLY. Hence the variations as to the action of digestive system, as well as the involving of the pressure created in heart’s action.
-
To relieve this condition, then, will be to systematically relieve the pressure as exists in the 12th, 10th and 11th dorsal, as well as in sacral and lower lumbar plexus, or region, and to so stimulate the nerve and blood supply through the system as to bring resuscitation to the activity of the vibratory forces set up through the impulse from nerve energy.
-
IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE ORGANS IN THE BODY, brain forces very good.
-
There are seen at times that the retraction through nerve impulses through sympathetic plexus produce the over amount of stimulus to the excretory or secretive functionings of the upper portion of body. Hence cold, congestion, at times resultant, as well as the inactivity of sympathetic IMPULSE through the sensory system. So, the drooping - the quivering of the muscular forces from the upper central nerve system, are at times the result, as well as from that of the reaction through such recourses in system as to bring to the arm and right side those of the inability of locomotion.
-
In the activity of lungs, bronchials, throat - here we find only those of a SYMPATHETIC nature as abnormal.
-
Heart’s action varying according to the conditions as are brought about in the system’s NOMINAL functioning under the strain of existent conditions.
-
Digestive system more in SYMPATHY with conditions in the system, as radiate from the lower portion of solar plexus centers, as are under pressure.
-
The liver, spleen and functioning of these organs are under strain at TIMES; at others overactive.
-
As is seen in the lower hepatic circulation, here we have the tendency of OVER-activity, produced by the attempt of system to adjust itself to the conditions as are existent under pressure in the system, as is also the conditions in the lower portion of the pelvic organs. These, as are continually under pressure, produce, as is seen, more of those conditions as are as ELIMINANTS than normal.
-
To meet the needs of the conditions of this body, and to bring to the near normal, would require not only the SYSTEMATIC application but the persistent and consistent application of self, as the body IS strong minded and self-willed. These should be guided in the proper directions.
-
First we would, then, aid the system in being able to coordinate in its elimination. Not only by adding medicinal properties of the correct vibration, but to be able to meet the NEEDS of the system as corrections are made in the cerebro-spinal centers FROM which the trouble arises in this body, Mrs. [847] we are speaking of.
-
In the applications, then - first we would give as these as MEDICINAL properties for the body. Prepare this as the carrier for the properties:
-
To 8 ounces of distilled water add 4 ounces wild cherry bark. Reduce by simmering, not boiling, (or slow boiling) to 1/2 the quantity. Strain while warm and add:
Simple Syrup…2 ounces, Elixir or the juice of Ambrosia Weed…1 ounce, Tincture of Stillingia…1/2 ounce, Syrup of Sarsaparilla Compound…1/2 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce.
-
Shake solution together before the dose is taken, which would be half a teaspoonful at least four times each day. After this has been taken for five to six days, BEGIN with the correction OSTEOPATHICALLY of the conditions existent along the cerebro-spinal system. Not attempting to make ADJUSTMENTS until the body is thoroughly relaxed, and relax same by the treatments - given EACH day - for at least ten to fifteen treatments. Then applying wet heat before ADJUSTMENTS are made. The adjustments may be begun in the lumbar, sacral and lower dorsal region. Not making the adjustments completely in the brachial region until these are thoroughly adjusted in the lower portion of body. With the beginning of the second or third ADJUSTMENT, apply - AFTER such treatment - those of the ULTRA Violet ray for at least two minutes, but at least a distance of thirty-eight inches from the body, centering same over the lower portion of the dorsal and lumbar region.
-
When the adjustments are begun for the plexus in the UPPER portion of dorsal region, apply every THIRD day those of the VIOLET ray to the lower portion of the cervical and at the base of the brain. These activities sre to create the changes in the vibrations as are set up in the system, to the proper reaction with the brain centers, that have long been inactive save spasmodically in this body.
-
Do that - keeping up these conditions - keeping the diet so that the assimilations are proper and in accord with that of the proper distribution of building forces for the blood supply and nerve system. We will find in six months to nine months the near NORMAL forces for this body. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would rectal dilation help this condition? (A) Only after there were portions of the ADJUSTMENTS made. This is more in the sacral than in the coccyx region. The dilation would assist in ELIMINATIONS more than in the correction, other than SYMPATHETICALLY.
-
(Q) Can the body get this treatment followed out properly in Oklahoma City? (A) Find one in sympathy with these conditions, if we would make the proper corrections.
-
(Q) Should the medicinal properties be continue after the manipulations are begun? (A) Continued until the whole quantity is taken. This is to change the vibrations in the system, that the eliminations may be coordinated, else we would find we would merely TRANSFER the condition from one portion of system to another. But with SYSTEMATIC reactions coming about in system, we may find the relief as has been given may be accorded this body, [847]. We are through for the present.

R1. 5/22/29 Daughter [295]‘s letter to GD:
Oh, I want to tell you about the reading first. Mama and I think it is just grand and so does the doctor who is giving her treatments, an osteopath [We later learned she was a naturopath, not an osteopath. GD] who used to treat Mama about eighteen years ago. We felt like she was the very one, as she understood Mama’s case and Mama liked her and her partner so well then. So after all these years she went back to her old doctor, Miss Campbell [Esther Campbell Caldwell, N.D.], who is practicing alone now, but who has a lot of new equipment that she did not have then, in the way of electric machines, etc. I couldn’t for the life of me name them. Mama seems to be improving under these treatments and comes home all rested now, though at first they tired her. She has been taking one every day for over a week and will take one each day the rest of this week. I gave the doctor a copy of the reading to go by, and she said that she was going by it as nearly as possible. When I first took it up to her and she read it over, she thought it was wonderful, though she didn’t understand how it was given. She understood those medical terms that I did not, and explained a lot of them to me. I made that tonic that the reading described, except that one ingredient was lacking; the juice or elixir of ambrosia weed. I tried everywhere here to get it, and even sent off to Illinois where I heard that I might obtain it, but seemingly, it is not manufactured any more. So she is taking that without that herb in it. I hope it won’t make so very much difference.
I am so glad that we had the reading for Mama. She should have had something done a long time ago, but as it is, she has gone all these years suffering and neglected. My poor little mother has had a very hard time all her life, and I want to try to make up for it as much as possible.
R2. 5/23/29 Daughter [295]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce:
This is to inform you of the progress of the treatment outlined in your reading for Mama, dated one month ago today. I really intended to write sooner, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Hope you don’t think that I have lost interest. Such is not the case for Mama and I are still greatly interested and are trying our best to carry out the suggestions given in the reading. First, I prepared the tonic described, except that I was unable to obtain the elixir or juice of ambrosia weed here. I sent away in an effort to get it, but to no avail. So she is taking it without that herb.
We then got in touch with a doctor who used to treat Mama many years ago, a woman osteopath who knows a lot about Mama’s condition and who said she would follow the suggestions given in the reading as nearly as possible. She thinks the reading is wonderful, though she said that she never saw anything like it before. She wanted to know how it was given and when I told her that we had to have an appointment and that Mama had to be a a designated place, she wanted to know if it was something like mental telepathy. Of course I didn’t know. I left a copy of the reading with her, and Mama is taking treatments every day, and they seem to be helping her. That awful backache is disappearing and she is looking and feeling better already. She is going to take a treatment every day the rest of this week and then every other day for awhile. Mama likes the doctor very much and of course that helps lots, too. Her name is Dr. Caldwell [Esther Campbell Caldwell, N.D.] and she is widely known, people coming from other cities to take treatments from her. She has an office downtown, also a sanitarium where she takes patients.
R3. 7/29/29 Daughter [295]‘s letter:
Dear Mrs. Atkinson:
This is in reply to several of your inquiries concerning the state of my mother’s health. I am sorry that I have not attended to this sooner, but I will now take the opportunity of outlining the condition at present.
The reading we had for her in April suggested that she take osteopathic treatments after toning up the system with a tonic, the formula for which was furnished in the reading. Whether I made this tonic just right, I don’t know, but I tried to follow directions as closely as possible. The first time I made it I could not get any Ambrosia weed, though later Gladys sent me some and I made some more, though I happened to let the Ambrosia weed come to a boil in preparing it. This caused the mixture to be rather bitter, but she took it just the same.
After taking this tonic for some time, we arranged for her to take treatments from Dr. Esther Campbell, who, about eighteen years ago was assistant to a Dr. Johnson here, from whom Mama took treatments at that time. Since then Dr. Campbell has taken over the office as Dr. Johnson is an invalid and unable to practice. She knows about my mother’s condition, and agreed when she started to give the treatments that she would follow out the suggestions as nearly as possible. I gave her a copy of he reading.
The last time I talked with Dr. Campbell, which was about three weeks ago, concerning Mama she was very optimistic. She said that her blood was much purer, that she was in better spirits, that her nerves were more quiet and that there was a general improvement in her condition all the way round. Since she has been taking these treatments, however, there was for a time (in June) when it looked like she was getting worse instead of better. She is of a very nervous temperament and things upset her easily. The doctor just told her if she did not quit worrying over every little thing that she never would get well, that she had to use her will power. Since then it appears that she has decided to take the doctor’s advice and is improving thereby. She really is not satisfied, though, unless she is working, for it seems as though she must have an outlet for her energy, and sometimes she she overworks herself, which, in my opinion, is detrimental.
Lately she has been suffering considerably with her teeth, all of which are decayed, and we thought for some time that we would have them all removed, as every one was decayed greatly. However, we hesitated on account of her being paralyzed, for fear the shock would be too great. The pain continually increased, though, until this morning when she went down and had all of the upper ones taken out. She seems to be getting along all right and intends to have the rest removed in a week.
Mrs. Atkinson, I trust that I have told you enough to enable you to determine the extent of improvement that has taken place. I think the readings are wonderful, and if you think my mother should have another reading in the near future I am willing that she should have one. Please let me have your opinion on this subject.
Thanking you for your kind interest, I am
Very sincerely yours, [295]
