This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 23rd day of December, 1929, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [295].

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, as are latent and exhibited in the present entity, [295].

2. In entering the present experience, we find the entity coming under the influence of Venus, Mercury, Uranus, Jupiter and Neptune. In the relations, then, irrespective of will’s influence - which has altered and does alter the environment for the entity [and if the ordinary relations were considered from the astrological viewpoint alone, many contradictory conditions would be found apparent in the entity’s experience], we find: Coming under the influence of the Mercurian, Venus, and of that influence making for either an extreme - we find those affairs of the heart are those contrary-wise in the entity’s experience, and unhappiness will be the lot in wedded life. [See 295-2, Par. 18-A, 19-A on 11/10/30 and 295-6, Par. 7-A on 4/16/32.]

3. In those, then, that become accentuated through these experiences, we find those of the natures taking on that of application of self’s abilities to the aid, benefit, of others not IN such relations [See 295-2, Par. 21-A clarification], will fill, should fill, the present experience to a life worth while, and the greater development for the entity in the present experience will be found through such channels. Either in the full application of those influences in that of Mercury - in the mental field, then, as the statistician, or the one that would apply self in the field of aid to the afflicted, the sick, or those in the shut-in places. In that of the musician to those that are IN the mouldive or moulding age, stage, or as instructress in the channels as related to those conditions as appertain to the spiritual and mental development of such.

4. In the contrary-wise conditions, these may be seen best from the varied EXPERIENCES of the entity through the earth’s plane, or in the earth’s environs.

5. With the relations as have been altered, we find one of high ennobling and high mental abilities, and mental aspirations. Tempered with those forces in Jupiter and in Uranian and Neptune, ever will the body succeed BEST near or on, or over, or across, large bodies of water. Those elements that have to do with creative forces are ever active in the mental development of the entity, and in, about such surroundings, will the mental forces, the spiritual forces AND the physical, be benefited, aided, in the natural environs, governed by will’s influence towards things celestial. These will bring for the entity a vision of conditions as may be gained by many ONLY in the mental, while for the entity they may become realities, applicable in the life as EXPERIENCES that become worth while.

6. Being of the Uranian, and also in Neptune, elements pertaining to music, poetry, the arts, are ESPECIALLY that to which the mental abilities rest upon, and the forces as apply to the entity attune themselves much to such. Then, the entity will gain through such experience that as may be applied in the life, as one capable of intuitively aiding many, if fear will be replaced by love - NOT sentiment, but by that which casteth out fear, making all things possible through Him, who is the lamp, the guide, the light, the life to the entity, in this and in other experiences. [See 295-2, Par. 24-A, 25-A.]

7. In the present those things that pertain to the home, the home life, the influences in individuals, individuals’ lives, are ever thoughts, studies, of the entity. Do not be too often alone, for this engenders to the mind of such an one - a sincerity of PURPOSE, but the inability of PROPER expression. Be NOT afraid of self nor self’s abilities. Do NOT condemn self [See 295-2, Par. 26-A]. Be not high-minded; but rather that which is in keeping with the things that bring the knowledge and understanding of Him, who was guided, led, by Him who gave His life for many. [See 295-2, Par. 27-A.]

8. In the experience, then, before this - we find the entity was in that period when the last of the Louises reigned. [Louis XVI of France?] The entity was the daughter who escaped in the snow, when the attempt was made to leave at the time of rebellion. The entity was the only one of the royal family to escape during that period, being carried by stealth to the land now known as Austria. The entity then was in the name, as changed to, Marie Augusta. In that experience we find the entity gained when the entity became the singer, being unmindful through those conditions set ABOUT the entity, of the condition as befell the parents and the rest of the family. Gaining in the experience through service to many, and was one of note to those who were of the circumstance that brought the oppression in their lives; ministering to them through song, through little kindnesses that brought that in the entity’s OWN self of a CONTENTED, yet UNSATISFIED, life. In the present we find the entity seeking, seeking - yet not wholly content, nor wholly satisfied. Make for self, through will, contentment whatsoever station one finds self, but NEVER satisfied. Rather looking to that one to whom ALL must seek, through HIS grace, HIS spirit, for that which brings CONTENTMENT in a life. 9. In the one before this we find in that period when the Master walked among men. To her the Master said, “She hath chosen the better part.” [Luke 10:42] In ministering to Him through that period, loved by Him in that experience, as the SISTER of Martha and of Lazarus, the entity gained through the experience - and little is the wonder to others that ever the song, or the wish, or the desire for help and succor and aid is paramount in the ENTITY’S soul; for only that others MIGHT be aided did the entity enter into another experience - for, as was said by Him: “Wherever my gospel is preached, her works will be spoken of” [Mat. 26:13]. What a heritage! In the present experience we find that His tenets, His truths, are easily taught, understood by the entity. Only be broader in the vision, condemning none - even as He condemned not even those who persecuted Him. Condemnation in the entity is BUILDED. 10. In the one before this we find in that period when there were divisions in the land now known as Egypt, through that condition arising from the differences between the priest and the ruler. The entity then was one that counseled with the ruler and the priest, bringing the first of the messages to the priest of the POSSIBILITY of the return; and the musician in the temple after the restoration, and one that may yet be found many of even the COMPOSITIONS by the entity during that period, when that of the first of the pyramids is opened. The entity then was in the name Islta. In this experience we find those tenets as were set in motion by that experience may be made compatible with that gained by the association with the Master, for THEY be one - even as has been given, they were the foundation of that as taught by the Master in HIS experience in the earth’s period. In the abilities of the entity from that experience, much must come from the ENTITY’S application of self’s OWN experience to that period, and of MANY THROUGH that period, in the gathering of those tenets as must become a portion of the whole.

11. In the one before this we find in that known as the Atlantean. The entity then was the princess in that land. Here the entity got the experience of pomp without the application in the proper manner [9/25/31 See 288-27, Par. 23-A saying [288] & [295] were associates, friends, companions in Atlantis], yet the entity felt, acted, enacted, against the people - suffering much in body and mind for an ideal. GAINING - yet losing in grudges, and DISCONTENT. In the name Amliea. [See life Rdg. 543-11 indicating physical karma from Atlantis. 3/15/32 through 5/15/32 Miss [295] gave magnetic tr. to Miss [543] to rid her of ‘possession.’] In the present, the wonderment or the force as may be applied, and the fear as enters in by CLAIMS by others. Discard fear from self’s INNER being, for the fruits belie the source of any effort.

12. In the abilities in the present - as is seen, these are given - in that the entity may give much, the entity may suffer much, the entity may develop much. [See clarification in 295-2, Par. 23-A.]

R31. 5/26/33 She sent us a copy of her letter to Dr. [539] about her magnetic healing work:

You expressed an interest in the results of my meditations. I wish to state that my meditations have helped me over many a rocky path since I have been in Virginia. I feel I have developed a great deal through this means and feel a closer fellowship and union with the Father and more at one with the whole, the awareness of being a part of the Divine plan and having a purpose in the scheme of things. Whereas I used to feel so often the utter futility of trying, being more often than not downcast and discouraged (though I now sometimes fall back into such) I now have more hope and courage to go on. When those periods begin to come on, through meditation and prayer I am able to throw them off - praises be to Him! Then I feel that my work with Glad Helpers has not been in vain, that we really have helped people - have actually seen it demonstrated. Only the other evening at a group meeting in which three of the Glad Helpers were present, we were asked, when an emergency suddenly arose, to hold a meditation for a certain person who has been trouble with what be termed ‘evil spirits’. The person was in Norfolk - we were at the Beach. It seemed someone would have to go to her (some of her relatives were present) as she was alone and afraid. We held a meditation, waiting for a car to come in which to take them over, and when we had finished the phone rang and the lady said everything was cleared up - there was no need for anyone to make the trip of about twenty miles.

Then, too, Dr. [539], I have become aware of having heavenly guides or angels to help me (this through automatic handwriting) but best of all I have been assured of the presence of the Master at all times, which means everything. I have been given many beautiful messages for my guidance and development, and have developed the ability to be aware, at times, of the presence of these beings or entities, even to the point of seeing. In meditation I have also had what may be termed general osteopathic treatments, at least the results were that of having had treatments of this character. Have gone into meditation with headaches or cold and have come our feeling perfectly normal with no pain whatsoever.

Dr. [539], I do not say these things boastfully, but because you say you are interested and because I feel you will understand. Not everyone would; in fact, very few would, so of course I am very careful to whom I tell these things. I know that it is not I who does these things, but my Father who works through me as I am willing and able to open my inner self. I only pray that I may keep in the right attitude and be willing to say, “Not my will, but thine, O Lord, be done, in me and through me.”

R34. 7/6/33 She wrote about a birth chart reading she had received from Laurie Pratt, the astrologer:

“I have read and reread it, and shall continue to study and refer to it. Of course, some things are not entirely clear (some of the astrological terms, etc.) yet it is most interesting. Had I not known differently, my first impression would have been that she had seen my Life Reading by Mr. Cayce. Some things fit so well it is uncanny.

“There is much encouragement for me in this astrological reading, as well as some warnings which I innately recognized upon reading them. I think parts of the predictions have already begun to work out, as in the first part of the fourth paragraph of Key Cycle Forecast. I have felt the ‘cabin-ed and confined’ influence very strongly, of late…

“I feel this reading fits me very, very well. I know that I have a dual nature - I do things by twos. The number two follows me everywhere I go and in everything I do, and nearly all my life my soul has been a continual battleground in which forces of opposite or different kinds have waged war. It is true that my work at present will be done better from the mental plane. I am interested in philosophy.”

R35. 7/21/33 She wrote of having read the book, “Under Pontius Pilate.” “This book has made the most profound impression upon me than any book I have read for many a day. While reading it, I was affected very strongly and had a number of weeping moments - it seemed as though my very soul was laid bare. It was truly a revelation to me! I had never before connected the two Marys Mary the sister of Martha and Mary Magdalene], always thinking they were separate and distinct individuals. I searched the Scriptures trying to find out. It seems plausible that they were the same. Some here think they were and some think they were not. For myself, if they were one and the same, many things are answered for me, the ‘why’ of certain things in my life, and a better understanding of how much greater should be my realization of the debt of gratitude in service I owe my Lord, my Master, who did so much for me! Do you think the book authentic?”

It is well for me that I have old Jupiter standing by me, or I would have gone down in the fray long ago, no doubt.

“However, there are some wonderful promises here, which are encouraging. This chart certainly is different in many respects from the first one. I am glad she changed it in some instances, one about foreign travel, for that has been one of the chief desires of my life - to go abroad, to travel by water. I love water, love to live by the sea. My Life Rdg. said I always should…

“These adverse conditions can be overcome, can they not? I mean, one does not have to enter into a violent quarrel (there is nothing I dislike more, I think) and such, does he? I suppose a death or anything like that cannot be prevented, if it is destined to be, but to think I tend to bring about separations is appalling. I guess there is nothing one could do about that except to get off the earth, is there?

“My Life Rdg. said, which rather agrees with the chart on the subject, that love affairs are contrary-wise in my makeup and marriage would bring unhappiness. I have felt very strongly about marriage since I have been old enough to reason (by the way, if the skeleton in the closet is in the past, it must be the divorce of my parents and the subsequent re-marriages of my mother) for I have been very averse to marriage and a man-hater - can you feature that? until recently, or, I would say, until the last few years. My home conditions were very unhappy, never having had a normal home life, and I had figured out that marriage brought on all the unhappiness and misery there was in the world. Of course, I know this is all wrong now (also I had the wrong presentation of life and what it was all about when quite young) but it is hard to uproot when it is so deeply imbedded.

“I have tried to figure out what life is all about, but it is one puzzle to me…it is people mostly that I do not understand. Sometimes I wonder why there has to be people, anyway; get to thinking and wish I was anything but a human being, subject to all their weaknesses, and just struggling along like so many hundreds of thousands of others going - who knows where?

“Going back to what the chart said about love affairs - I hope it is right about the severest love disappointment being in the past. There were two, I would say, infatuations that went rather hard with me at the time, but when I was seventeen I do not think I would look at a man. Can’t remember any affairs during my teens…

“I do like change and variety, but seem thwarted in attaining either, although my work is varied. Seldom becomes monotonous.”

R62. 10/21/37 See 5749-9 explaining that there were two incidents with - surrounding conditions the same, but that the incident of Magdala or Mary, the sister of Martha [295] occurred in the early portion of His ministry. She [295] had a house of ill repute and was a cohort of some who later became His disciples. The incident with [1436] occurred after the reuniting of Martha, Lazarus and [295]. She [1436] was only guilty of self-indulgence with the Roman soldiers and not catering to those in authority in the various groups as did [295].

R67. 2/2/45 She wrote GD, after EC’s passing: “I shall always revere and honor his memory and be thankful that I was privileged to contact his work. The years I spent in Virginia were the happiest and most wonderful, yet the most miserable of my life. Why did it have to be like that? My sweet, precious little girls give me plenty of reasons for living, yet if it were not for them I would not care to struggle on.”

R68. 3/28/45 “Neither of us has been very happy in our marriage. We are proud of our girls and are buying a house, but I guess we are just sticking together because of them.”

R69. 11/27/48 Her aunt wrote: “My sister-in-law, [295]‘s stepmother, writes that [295] and her husband don’t get along well at all - they fight like cats and dogs.”

R70. 6/61 She reported that she and her husband were still together, that both of her daughters were getting a college education, one married.

R71. 9/64 She reported: “My Life Rdg. helped me to understand myself and be able to overcome condemnation. I really feel that if I hadn’t learned what I did through Edgar Cayce’s readings, I would have remained an old maid. A fellow had proposed to me but I ran off on him, to Va. I just couldn’t marry him.”

R72. 1/66 She reported that she had two grandchildren by her oldest daughter [2391], a girl and a boy.

R73. 9/68 She said her younger daughter also now has a son; that she herself is now retired from the phone company and is enjoying her freedom, trying to get a little travelling done after all these years. She is active in Sunday School and Church work.
