-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: (Not so good for the last day or so!)
-
As we find, in the main there are still some improvements; while there are those days when there is the feeling as of a stiffening or of a great deal more soreness in the attempts of the body to move or to use self, and soreness in portions of the knees, pelvis, and even through the torso.
-
Most of this as we find arises from the lack of proper eliminations of that assimilated and of the used energies in the exercising of the body.
-
These then as we find would be the most helpful for the body:
-
When such disturbances arise, it is well that there be a high enema for the purifying of the colon and of the whole of the intestinal system so that the strain may be removed.
-
As fast or as soon as possible, or practical, - though it may require several days for the body to be able to get any use with same without a great deal of help, - it is well that there be begun the use of the crutches. Use them for two or three days, or attempt to, and then leave them off for a while.
-
When there is the sand and sea bath, it is well that the body be covered with sand afterward - dry sand. Let the body be thoroughly wet in the sea water, - this meaning with the bathing suit and the body thoroughly wet, - and then immediately cover the body in DRY sand, see? not wet. Cover the entire body except, of course, the head and face, - which should be shaded from the sun, while the rest of the body should be in the sun as much as possible, - that is, the mound of sand OVER the body should be in the sun, see? Do not let there be such a weight on the body as to cause a great deal of distress by the weight of the sand, but let the body remain covered in this manner for twenty to thirty minutes, if it can be fairly comfortable for that length of time without it being a dread or a burden. The sand in this particular locality is not as efficacious as it might be where there is more radium or gold or other activities in same, but use that in hand for the present. This done once a day should STIMULATE the CAPILLARY circulation.
-
When the body exercises, either by pulling or by attempting to swim in the water - if it is practical or possible for the body - movement or activity in the water will be found to be MOST beneficial, if the water is sufficiently warm. Let the body be put into same and attempt to move the limbs and body in same; this will be helpful.
-
After such a sea and sand bath, as well as after the periods of attempted exercises, when the muscles and joints are in a great deal of strain or stress, we find that it would be well to relax and to strengthen the body by the use of a rub with a combination of oils, which as we find in the present would be most helpful for the body. Prepare same in this manner:
-
To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil, add - in the order named:
Peanut Oil…1 ounce, Oil of Sassafras Root…1/4 ounce, Oil of Cedar Wood…1/2 ounce, Oil of Pine Needles…1 ounce.
These will separate, but shake together and massage into the muscles and joints what the body will absorb.
-
As to the Appliance, and those applications as indicated with same, keep those.
-
As to the general diet, keep that that is body-building.
-
And keep the mental attitudes towards creative and constructive forces, ever.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Any other exercises than those mentioned? (A) Any that the body may in any manner attempt, see? But for the present, the attempt to swim, the attempt to move - AFTER the use of the Packs - the pulling, and those attempts with the crutch - it’ll be pretty much of an exercise, under the existent conditions!
-
(Q) How often should the rub with the combination of oils be given? (A) As indicated, AFTER the swim OR the muscular exercise.
-
(Q) How can the legs best be straightened? (A) This should be attempted gradually, and NOT by sudden breaking or moving of same.
See, the joints need to be rubbed THOROUGHLY with the oil; AND that there be builded in the system a better exercise of the FLOW of circulation, see?
-
(Q) Is the Appliance being worked correctly? (A) This is very well.
-
(Q) Should the entity continue his daily attempts at writing, or wait until he is better? (A) Let the body here, mentally and physically, be moved by the impulse or emotion in same. Yet, as has been indicated, if there is held the CONSTRUCTIVE ATTITUDE, there will be the desire to do a little something each day, - and more and more when the days are better. These are then the attitude and manner of conduct in such.
-
(Q) Is the mental and spiritual attitude right? (A) As indicated, KEEP that - and hold to the faith of the fathers!
-
We are through with this Reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/30/38 “You gave me a fine rdg. and we are all jubilant about it. I’ll try to take it easy, to follow instructions minutely, and I am sure the results will be grand. It’s a long, slow process - but that’s all right. I’ve learned how to wait.
“Wish I could talk with you, and tell you how enthusiastic I am about all we’ve rec’d from the Ass’n recently - the plan for the vault, the plan for the ‘Sunday School,’ the beautiful Thanksgiving rdg. (3976-21).
“We will be praying for Hugh Lynn on Sunday. I’ll send him a wire, and we’ll try our best to get it…
“We missed you at Thanksgiving, but I sat at the table for the first time since April, so we gave thanks for that - thanks to God and to you and I have been up for lunch and dinner each day since.
“Are you going to be in Fla. for Xmas? We’d sure like to see you - and present you to Queen Ann Boleyn - Anna the Prophetess - Hannah - and Miss [1521] the Tomboy, all rolled into one.” Love, [849]
R2. 1/12/39 “This is a long overdue letter. During the holidays I made such strenuous efforts to exercise that writing was pushed into the background. Friend [5436] was here for two weeks, and under the stimulus of his company I raised my quota from 4 hrs. a day to 8 hrs. a day - sitting up in a rocking chair, which I find ideal for exercise - the motion gets all my leg muscles, the abdominal muscles and the muscles in the lower part of the back. All this progress has been very painful, especially to the shoulder and neck muscles, which bore a good deal of strain. When the peanut oil arrived we had the rub made up and tried it out. It is fine, smells grand, and seems to act as a food to the tissues. I’ve tried my crutches but with little success as yet. The water is too cold now for bathing or I’d have tried it.
“My weight and general strength continue to go forward, so I know the rest of it will come in time. Bowels are better under the influence of native vegetables, as the readings predicted. The only thing that bothers me is the annoying [rectal] itch, which seems to get no better even with faithful application of Tim. It is like Athlete’s Foot in its feel, and the readings sometime ago said that it was caused by the circulatory troubles. I wonder if Tim is the best thing for it. Next time we get a ck. rdg. I think it would be a good idea to ask that - might dig up a good remedy for pruritis - which is what this seems to be - and which doctors cannot cure. Anyhow, can I have another tube of Tim in the meantime? “We hope you had a good holiday season. Ours was fine, and we are just getting back to normalcy and some work. One of our gifts was a large radio, with which we can get Hugh Lynn’s program. I think it is doing pretty well, and should get a commercial for next fall…”
R3. 1/16/39 EC’s letter: “That is fine about the peanut oil. Just keep up the good work. You remember the man who worked out the peanut oil? [Dr. George Washington Carver?] While I don’t think it has gotten in general use much as a rub, I understand it is gaining in favor in just that use. A Dr. Charles Goodman Taylor [M.D.], whom I met years and years ago, has become very much interested in the readings on multiple sclerosis [See 907-1]. He has a couple of cases that he and some others are working on - they say they have never found anything for that, but each of these are getting better - one of the people, curiously enough, is a doctor. This peanut oil is a part of that treatment given in the readings for wasted tissue…
“Don’t like that itch, am sending another tube of Tim. Hope it helps but may not be the best thing, and will include such a question in the next rdg. Have you ever used D.D.D. Ointment? Try a tube of that. It is called D.D.D. Prescription - comes in ointment and liquid. The ointment is not so severe, and should stop the itch.”
R4. 2/5/39 Mr. [849]‘s ltr.: “I am enclosing a set of questions for a ck. up…
“I’ve tried my best to get on crutches but haven’t succeeded because as yet my legs won’t take the weight of my body for the necessary instant in the step. But they will soon - getting stronger with exercise.
“Had some dizziness after Xmas - turned out to be sugar starvation hyperinsulinism - from which I have always suffered because of my aversion to sweets. [1102] guessed the reason, so now I eat two chocolate bars a day and am all right…
“Guess what I’ve been dreaming over? A catalogue of Manly P. Hall’s books. The titles make my mouth water. When I make some money I’ll buy them all and put them in the Ass’n library.
“Now I know why old folks like rocking chairs - they are fascinating rock-rock-rock - dream - and so help me - I grow stronger and heavier.
“And now, Eddie, I must write to a girl I know named Gertrude
- very nice girl, too - you’d like her.”
R5. 2/15/39 See 849-34 and 1102-4 for wife.
R6. 2/39 Hugh Lynn Cayce’s letter from N.Y.C. to EC:
“I am copying a bit from [849]‘s recent letter. He is continuing to improve.
“I want to ask you something about our plans for the summer. I will not be able to take [1102] and [1521] to the beach with me for obvious financial reasons. What I would like to know is whether your Mother would have room for me and whether she would accept me as a paying guest. I will not agree to visiting you otherwise, and I think it would be nice for her summer budget to have, say, 25 a week added to it. Our lease expires here on May 15 and I would like to get on a train and go straight to Norfolk, so that I could begin my sand and sea baths there without interruption. By that time I will be little or no trouble to look after, and if I am in the house with your Dad we will very soon have the book rolling like a snowball. But before I suggest this to your family I want your ok on it.
“You know what I think. Muddie please write him right away and tell him what you think about suggestion. I’ll gladly take responsibility for taking care of him whatever is necessary.
“Rushing to catch a train for town, so will try to write you a long letter over weekend.
“Will be home after program unless something comes up. Will wire or phone you exact plans.
“Lots of Association matters to straighten out.
“Intend to catch up on Bulletins and do reach paper on epilepsy while home. Also plan and rewrite Association program for presentation to board - am putting meeting off until I get back. Want chance to talk things over with you and also get the reading.”
Love, Hugh Lynn
