This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of July, 1938, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [1312], over telephone yesterday afternoon to Mrs. Edgar Cayce; through Associate Membership in the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 5:00 to 5:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Ky. (Physical Suggestion)
-
EC: Yes.
-
As we find, while there are more weaknesses shown, there is also the showing of a lack of the spreading of infection through the system; that is, the strep as produces temperature in the system, see? while the temperature itself varies considerably.
-
We would keep - now - NO foods - that is, solids - but fruits and vegetables.
-
Keep the body quiet.
-
We would have the manipulative forces each day, and these to assist in eliminations - until there is no more temperature.
-
Of course, the great quantities of the Zilatone should be left off, and use Castoria now to make for the eliminations. Giving a very small quantity often will be very much better. Of course, take a little of same each day to keep the eliminations. Do not allow these to become static, or less than two actions each day. As to whether more Zilatone will be taken will depend upon the general conditions. As we find in the present, if the manipulations are given daily - until no more temperature - and the Castoria is kept in small doses often - these would keep down temperature; provided, of course, there are not other infections or conditions arising.
-
Each afternoon, two or three o’clock, or after the manipulative forces, and to rest the body, we would have an alcoholic rub - but NOT with rub alcohol. Use rather the GRAIN alcohol, and this along the spine and OVER the abdomen. For this will tend to make for an exuding of poisons from the skin, which are well to be taken from the system. Hence, after this rub is given - gently given - sponge off afterwards with soda water, see?
-
Every other evening, until there is a decided change in the stool, take a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and three drops of Elixir of Lactated Pepsin stirred together in a full glass of water. This, of course, will tend to make for the elimination of poisons, or the absorbing of same through the system - and then with the Castoria and the manipulations, the eliminations should be thorough.
-
And if these are kept, we should make for much bettered conditions.
-
We would make Pure Apple Brandy into what might be called an eggnog; using very little of the yolk of the egg and NONE of the white, but the yolk beaten very thoroughly, see? not much sugar, just enough to make it palatable. For one egg yolk there should be used at least a tablespoonful of the Pure Apple Brandy, see? and this much would be taken during a whole day, though portions of it taken two, three to four times a day, see? using a little milk or ice or both in same if so desired. This will tend to strengthen the body, and will also make for a great deal of help for the condition through the lung and the ability for the lungs to throw off the gases and the clearing forces where there has been a great deal of disturbance through inhalations of dusts that have been and are very bad for the body.
-
Hence, there should not be activities in that environ when the body is able to carry on.
-
If these treatments are kept up, as we find, we should find at least in the next two to three days little or no fever arising.
-
And then it is to be mindful that there is not overeating, nor overindulgence.
-
Keep cool; not exactly in a draft, but in the open as much as possible.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes the blood from the cough? (A) The strain, and the lungs throwing off forces that are settlements - and because of the very weakness. Hence as indicated, the Brandy.
-
(Q) What produced this strep as mentioned? (A) As indicated, poisons - lack of eliminations. The strep is not other than that which causes temperature, and - as indicated from the first - a congestion in the liver.
-
We are through with this Reading.

R1. 7/11/38 [852]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar,
I am writing you this note while laying in bed, so please excuse the penmanship. It’s about the best I can do under the circumstances.
Mother [1312] and Daddy [2704] have had their hands full and haven’t had a chance to write and Aunt [1795] has had a house full of company - Uncle […] and Uncle [1508] and his family
- so they didn’t have time to write either.
I am glad to say I feel better but am so VERY, VERY weak. Can’t sit up but just a few minutes at a time, and then it seems to weaken me. Am still running a slight temperature; from 99 to 99 4/5 every day. Would you say that was about a normal temperature in this hot weather? I am trying to follow the reading, but am having to omit the osteopathic treatments as Dr. Beard has gone to some kind of convention at Cincinnati, and won’t be back for ten days. But, I am taking the egg-nog, believe it or not, and as you know, that is a hard dose for me as I can’t stand the taste of brandy or whisky. But, if it will help me get well, I’ll take anything.
You don’t know how I appreciate your kindness in giving the readings so promptly and I won’t forget it later. As you know, I have the greatest faith in the readings and am so interested in all work pertaining to them.
Edgar, in the last reading you said “there had been a great deal of disturbance in the lungs through inhalations of dusts that have been and are very bad for the body. Hence, there should not be activities in that environ when the body is able to carry on.” Does that mean that the dust at the Mill is not good for my lungs and that I shouldn’t go back to work there in the office? I didn’t know, so I wish you would please write me what interpretation you give it. I am working in the office of the … Milling Co. [wheat and corn products] in the office with Mr. Wallace Garnette, Frank Yost, Jr., Tom Hamblin, and Mary Elizabeth Yost. It is a lovely office, every one so congenial. However, my health means more than anything.
When I get up Daddy, Mother, and I are going camping down on the farm at Cadiz and I am going too “rough it”, I think I need the pure fresh air.
I’m getting tired so I guess I had better rest for a while. Some of the family will write later.
Hope you all are well. Give my love to all the family and keep plenty for yourself.
Love, [852]
R2. 7/16/38 EC’s letter to [852]:
Dear [852]:
Had wondered how you were getting along - glad you are feeling some better, and hope you will soon be rid of that weakness and rise of temperature. If you can take a lot of beef juice you will soon get your strength but will have to take it very little at time, say teaspoonful about four times a day and that should not be enough to cause your fever to rise. You had better take you a full round of Grove’s Chill Tonic - that is what is often given for ones who have slow fever - don’t think you are having enough to be worried about unless it grows on you - and if it does continue had better check up on same. But you see that is about normal for many people - you may not like that brandy, but better take it or inhale it and expect that would be worse for you - if you dislike the odor of it.
About the dust - apparently some where you have been inhaling dust that has effected your lungs - and suspect it is about the mill. Think you had better think twice before going there again to work for any length of time.
All are pretty well here - have been quite busy. Camping is just what you need, get out and rough it - eat corn bread - beans - cabbage mostly. Don’t use any pastries or very little sweets - that would be the very thing for you - walk a lot swim and don’t be afraid to get your feet wet in the dew.
Wish could see all the folks at home - seems a long time since were there - don’t know whether we can make it or not this summer. If do will be about middle of Aug.
Give our love to all, and let me hear how you get along.
Love to all, Edgar Cayce
R3. 8/2/38 [852]‘s letter:
I went back to work two weeks ago today. I just worked half a day that day - went down after lunch, so it didn’t tire me too much the first day. I felt like I couldn’t stay away any longer, especially when they had been as nice as they had to me about holding my position during their very busiest season, the wheat season. I was awfully worried when I got your letter advising me to think twice before going back, but I felt so much better and was worrying so about not being at work, that I thought it wouldn’t hurt me to go back if I didn’t work too hard and tire myself. I still don’t feel as well as I should but am going to try to continue for a while and then if I don’t feel any better, will have to decide one way or the other.
I am taking treatment from Dr. Beard once a week, sometimes twice a week, and hope she will be able to help this stiffness in my limbs, especially from the knees down. Dr. Beasley [Hugh C. Beasley, M.D.] says it is poison from my tonsils that is causing the soreness and stiffness. I am planning to have them removed sometime this fall and hope I will improve after the operation. I dread it but every one thinks it will help me so much as Dr. Beasley says they are in a terrible condition. I know they have been bad for years but would never consent to have them taken out. Maybe I’ll get as fat as Aunt [1795] after I have them removed! Wouldn’t I be a sight though! Ha! Ha!
Since I was ill, I have a better appetite than I have ever had before in my life. In fact, I want to eat all the time, and get hungry in just a few minutes after I have eaten a heavy meal. Yesterday morning about ten-thirty I got so hungry I had to go home in the car and get Mother to fix me a light lunch, then I went up to Mrs. [4023]‘s at noon and ate my regular lunch there. Then, by three o’clock I could hardly wait for five to come so I could go home to supper. It certainly looks like I ought to gain on that, but I can’t see it if I am. I take lunch at Mrs. [4023]‘s every day and she sets a splendid table. Good home cooking and well seasoned, which I surely enjoy.
R4. 10/39 She got married and subsequently, a few months later, divorced.
