This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of April, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [877], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by his sister-in-law, Miss [906].

Univesity Club, Time of Reading 1 West 54th St., 3:30 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Body and enquiring mind, who seeks information, counsel and guidance as to his mental and material affairs. Questions.)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [877]. In part we have had this before. In considering the mental and material surroundings, and those things or conditions and experiences that may bring in the activity of the entity not only soul development but harmonious expression in every phase of the entity’s sojourn, it is well that all the activities of the entity be considered as a portion of what has been the background, the associations of the entity - and in the light of what would make for soul development in the experience in the present. And then so shape the affairs, so shape the surroundings that these may be a portion of the entity’s activity. Thus may it indeed bring harmonious experiences. That which has been aroused in the desire for activity, through the awakening of the innate forces, is but a portion of the natural results of the awakening. But it is what the entity does ABOUT same that will make for the advancements.

3. (Q) Regarding the inner urge to get out of business, to establish myself as an advisor, teacher and writer - (A) (Interrupting) These are well. What the entity does about same that will make for an activity that will count.

4. (Q) Should I follow these urges, and if so, what steps should I take to get myself free from my present situation? (A) Well that these urges be followed. Best that self be established, or to establish self, after there has been due consideration given as to the plans for the activity as an advisor, as a counsellor, or as one that may aid others. That will give not only the opportunity for the using of that advantage had by counseling with others to apply SELF, but will make self a channel through which GREATER opportunities may come in the field of writing, in the field of expression. Naturally, then, an office AS a counsellor - or as an advisor to a council - be set up. Necessary, to be sure, that there be the disposal of the seat upon the Stock Exchange, which should be now at about an eight to ten percent advance upon the last sale of same as was made, see - some eighty-two to three-four thousand.

In making this, then - and in the very NEAR future, or in May or early June, there may be the disposals of properties, estates, in such a manner that the body may not only be rid of the indebtedness but may be able to carry on activities that may bring for the body the nicer, the greater, the more equitable surroundings. These should be accomplished in the very near future.

These will naturally go through those channels that are set up for same, or with the expressing of same there may come those opportunities for the disposal in a manner most satisfactory.

5. (Q) What specific steps should I take to free myself from my present burden of debt? (A) As indicated. These may be released in these ways and manners; disposal of same, see?

6. (Q) I want to sell my Sands Point House [4/26/35 See sister-in-law’s rdg. 906-1 indicating that Mr. [877]‘s and Mrs. [920]‘s home “is a very pretty one.”]. (A) (Interrupting) As indicated, use these regular channels that are open for same. But when it is made known that this is the desire, these channels - as we find - will offer themselves in a very satisfactory manner.

7. (Q) Am I correct in asking 275,000? (A) About 268,000 will be offered for same. This is somewhat less but will free the self the sooner.

8. (Q) Should I sell my other assets at cost or at whatever price I can get for them now? What channels should I use? (A) These should be disposed of also in the manners as indicated, so as to free self from those worries and obligations in these directions. These should come very near to their cost.

9. (Q) What is my real work in life? (A) As indicated; the advisor through direct association and counsel for those that would act in the way and manner as to PREVENT the distraction of the coming to the associations of suit, see? or an advisory council in respect to the conditions that have been indicated in the activities of the entity; also in the abilities of the entity for putting same in such manners - through the writings - as to be of help and aid to others in their judgements and their considerations.

10. (Q) Should I retain a contact with the business world, or should I get out of business entirely? (A) Get out of business so far as the business WORLD is concerned; but keep in contact so far as being able to make the necessary preparation of self to advise others. But as for the actual operation of self in the business world, refrain from same.

11. (Q) Should I publicly announce myself as an advisor? (A) Publicly announce self as advisor, counsellor, offering self as an aid to assist others in their QUESTIONS that arise in those fields of activity set out or chosen by self. Gradually these may be dissipated or added to, dependent upon the needs or the necessities for the activities in the varied directions. Not that there will ever be the attempt to divide the interests as to the writing and as to the advisory capacity, but these will become - as it were - a portion, or one and the same, see?

12. (Q) Where should I make my home? (A) This is another portion of the which is to be chosen for the periods of preparation, purification, dedication, building up the abilities of the entity. For this must of necessity be in a congenial environment and one that is in keeping with the choices of the entity as to that contact and association it is to keep with those whom the entity would serve. You can’t expect to put self in one position and advise others in another, see; or to live in one contact or surrounding and to be - in a manner - congenial with those influences and forces about which the entity would advise, save as to its contacts or the abilities for contact with same.

We would contact those also that we would advise as to their investments, as well as to their keeping OUT of trouble, see?

13. (Q) What should I do to protect my own financial position and obtain an adequate income in the future? (A) As indicated, when the body sets self in those capacities, in those conditions wherein the body may serve, he will be setting himself or insuring himself respecting his future income, his future material success, his future material and social activities.

14. (Q) How can I best serve God and live a full and free life with perfect self-expression and adequate supply to enable me to function without worry and anxiety? (A) As it becomes or behooves one in one’s preparation for any specific mental or material activity, first make the preparations from within. And whom thou would serve at least be on the same SPEAKING associations with, that is necessary for EVERY activity in that direction. This, as in material surroundings, insures or fortifies one as to one’s success. There has been and is ever the promise to every soul that He, thy Father, thy God, will meet thee in thy holy temple. Then accept same. Prepare self. Dedicate self; making those necessary activities for insuring self of that influence, that activity on the part of self, and there needs be little fear - EVER - to enter. For he that does so doubting already INVITES that which would bring corruption, dissension. But he that does so in the assurance that the promises are true, the promises are thine OWN, is insuring self and making secure.

15. (Q) Would you advise me to announce myself to the public as a lawyer - (A) (Interrupting) As a counsellor, as an advisor, rather than law; though the attributes of the knowledge, of the understanding, necessarily become a portion of the activities, see? As an advisor to the counsel; as an aid, as a help in EVERY direction in which thine or thine friends’ associates - yea, even those that are afar off - may be aided. For the abilities are there. The activities only need be put in order.

16. (Q) Is it not true the “THE WORD” mentioned in the first chapter of Saint John is the key to life; and is it not true that when man speaks the word “I AM” he directly links himself with God, the Absolute Power, and just as he qualifies his work “I AM” so does he create the conditions of his own life, including his ability, his health, his environment, his conditions, and everything else in his personal universe? (A) True! For, as He has given, “He that would know God must believe the understanding, to everyone that diligently seeks Him.”

For, as one raises that consciousness in self, the awareness of His, God’s, at-oneness is proclaimed in these: “Who shall I say has sent me?” “I AM THAT I AM!” And the same is proclaimed in, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God,” the same in the beginning “He came to His own, and His own received Him not.” That word, that understanding, is life, light, immortality. It is the water of life, the bread of life, and in Him is no darkness at all! Proclaiming alone does not do other than create the vibrations in self. ACTING it, BEING it, is as God is!

Dear Mr Cayce:

Many thanks for your letter of the 26th.

Your reading for me last Monday was glorious, and as you suspected, I have gone over it again and again very carefully. It is most valuable, and I am going ahead along the lines indicated.

I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting your friend Mr. [261], but I hope to do so this weekend. Our mutual friend, Mrs. [489], has been trying for some time to arrange for us to meet, and I am looking forward to having this pleasure, particularly when you tell me that you feel that the two of us would have a great deal in common.

I would like very much to have you give my wife a life reading just as soon as possible. Will you be so kind as to let me know when you can do this and also the cost thereof? I feel confident that she and I can do some wonderful work together.

My sister-in-law, Miss [906] is extremely pleased with her health reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

With reference to your letter of June 12th, I have pleasure in enclosing herewith my check for $100. in payment of Active Research Membership in the Association from June 1, 1935 to May 31st, 1936. I enclose your form duly signed as requested.

I have been giving a great deal of thought to the Association and its future, and I want to again assure you that I am tremendously interested in your wonderful work. Just as soon as I can free myself from my present responsibilities, it is my intention to establish an active contact with you and your father and do whatever I can do to assist you in your wonderful work. According to the reading which your father gave me on the 22nd April, I should be free this month. I have already cleared up - by elimination - a great many responsibilities, and have pretty thoroughly cleaned house so far as my business activities are concerned. My objective is to establish myself as an Advisory Counsel on International Banking and Investments, and I am making remarkable progress in this direction. The one thing that is yet to be done is to sell my Sands Point house, as the proceeds of such a sale (which your father’s reading indicated would be $268,000.) will clear up all of my debts, and free me not only financially, but also give me that liberty of action and freedom to come and go, which I feel the need of so urgently. Needless to say, I am most eager to complete the sale of my house at the figure above mentioned, thereby clear my debt situation, and then be free to go ahead along the lines outlined in your father’s reading, and as clearly indicated to me by the higher me by the higher power.

As I said above, once I am in this free position I want to follow that very strong urge within me which tells me that I can be of some help to the Association in one way or another, which will undoubtedly be made clear to me once I am free from existing burdens and responsibilities.

I am writing you at length in this way as I want you to understand that my interest in the Association is a really sincere one, and I want you to realize that until I can get free from my present position, it is almost impossible for me to get any clear light on how I can be of assistance to the Association. The Higher Power within me tells me clearly that the Association’s work is His work, and that I can be of some assistance. Just as soon as I am free I know that you and I and your father can work this out in a way which will be satisfactory to everyone concerned.
