This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 44 West 77th St., Apt. 14-W, New York City, this 3rd day of April, 1935, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [877], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., via Mrs. [489] and Miss [906].

1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those relations with the universe and universal forces, that are latent and manifested in the personalities of the entity called or known as [877].

2. In entering the present experience, as we find, there are astrological influences that have their experiences in the urges in the entity’s activities in the present. These are by some accredited as being because of certain positions at the time of birth, but they are rather because of the entity’s or soul sojourn in those environs that make for an influence upon the manifestation of that portion of the entity’s soul and spirit in matter.

3. As we find then, these are making for their experiences, or influence in the experiences, and they come not as that which is impelling but rather as the mental urge. And what the will does with the opportunity makes for the development or the retardment. And as from the beginning, choice is that which separates the entity from the Creative Forces or makes for its being one with same. True, as it has been written, nothing in heaven or earth may separate thee from the love of that Creative Force, thy God, save thyself.

4. We find that the influences in Jupiter make for that urge wherein sometimes travel, change, or environs of many natures present themselves in the experience of the entity. Not always have these been benevolent; for they have brought - by the acceptance of the opportunities - both development and retardments even in this experience. When these have been in conjunction with both Venus AND Mars influence, these have brought the greater benevolent activity in the experience of the entity.

5. In the present year, beginning in the next two to three weeks, there should be rather the benevolent influences from the Jupiterian activity in the experience, or within the next two and a half to three and a half years there should come the greater opportunity for the entity of making application of that it, the entity, has gained respecting mental and spiritual attributes of the individual - rather than the material or commercial influences. However, as the promises have ever been, if the activities of an entity or soul are in keeping with the spiritual or soul development, the other things are added unto thee in such measures as are best for thine own development.

6. In Saturn we find also that lending for sudden changes in the experience; so that at times the entity has been called by some as unstable in his attributes of decisions. For urges come by the influences not only of heredity and environment, as we know from the psychological effect in the human experience, but of heredity and environment of the soul’s experience in its sojourn through materiality or the consciousness within the various spheres of activity. Hence we have these as manifestations in the mental - or urges of the entity, as we have here, [877], known or called in the present:

7. One with a high regard for the experiences of others.

8. One reticent in making for those activities that would be in the position of pushing self forward without counselling oft with others; yet periods arise when those closest in the experiences term the entity as being rather hardheaded when he shouldn’t be. These are as those changes in the influences that arise. What one does with such urges makes for its mental and soul development. For Mind is the Builder, Mind is both material AND spiritual. For through same one becomes aware of that through which one is experiencing, or manner of manifesting same.

9. As to the appearances in the earth and those that make for influences in the experience of the entity in the present, we find:

10. Before this the entity was in that land now known as the city or place or town of brotherly love, during those periods when there were the sojournings of those from many other lands for the sake of their own religious and spiritual liberty.

11. And those activities in that particular experience of the entity were under the name Self - John L. Self. In the experience the entity gained, being among the first of those born in the new environs, the new surroundings, the new land; making for those developments in the new ideas of freedom of speech, freedom of activity. Yet as governed by the relationships of individuals with those about that peoples, it made for a security through the early portion of the development and throughout the experience in the earth, as one that aided in establishing those relationships with the peoples about the entity, under groups in the native land or the lands adjoining to the entity’s activities.

12. Hence the gains were made that make for those experiences in the present where the entity makes for those friendships with others, that even differ with them in their environmental influence as to make for differences of faith or differences of opinion. And the activities as related to individuals in the expressions of same, whether in the keeping of the records for others or in making of records for the activities of others, may be a portion of the entity’s work in the present. For it gives a natural channel for those expressions of the experiences that have had to do with the dealings of principle with their influence upon the minds of those that grow in certain environments. And hence as a teacher, as a writer, as an active force in such may the entity make for the development in self and give the expressions to others that are helpful in their experience.

13. Before that we find the entity was in the Roman land, during those periods when there were the activities in the land as pertaining to the various countries that paid tribute then to the Roman.

14. The entity was among those that were in charge of those in the collecting of the customs in the various ports, and as an active influence in making for the accounting of those that were set in authority.

15. Then, in the name Cercel, the entity made trips - as it were - to Alexandria, to Jerusalem, to Antioch, to those places where there were the messages and the hearing of the tenets of Him that - during the entity’s sojourn in the land - became as the sacrifice to the peoples in that experience.

16. The entity did not contact in person the Son of Man in the experience, but many of those that were of the household of faith; for the entity was acquainted with John, with Luke, with Pylemus (?) - the brother-in-law of Pilate. For to Pilate the entity went for the customs after that experience of the crucifixion or condemnation of Pilate in that experience.

17. In the mental forces the entity may be said to have gained, but as to the spiritual influences during the sojourns - these were not awakened until the latter portion. When the entity saw those activities and persecutions in the own city and in the own lands, these made for changes and brought to the entity in the last days of the experience greater joy of service because of those activities in that sojourn.

18. There have been those things in the present that particularly pertain to the librarians of Alexandria, the hidden influences in Rome, the activities of those peoples in the Holy Land that have at different periods been of particular interest to the entity. And there have been visions of same even in the dreams; for the entity is psychic from the experience there, as Cercel.

19. Before that we find the entity was in that land now known as the Mongoloid [GD’s note: He looked very Chinese, remarkably so considering he had no such physical heritage.], during those periods when there were the advances in the activities in that portion of one of the higher lands of civilization during that experience. For the entity then was a Prince of that land, sending to the various lands for the messages that were being given by the teachers in the varied lands; making for a betterment for the peoples that the entity, in the name Muzuen, came to be the ruler or the leader of.

20. During those activities of the entity, many were the warnings that the entity gave to those peoples for their rebellious influence that arose, that later made for the devastating influences of the sands overcovering much of that in the Gobi land.

21. In the present from that sojourn, those things pertaining to the EARLIER activities of the peoples have a particular interest, and especially as to the laws pertaining to what later became the developments of what may be said to have been the beginnings of statuary, or the beginnings of those activities that make for conveniences within the home and its relationships to the service of same.

22. Before that we find the entity was in that known or called the Atlantean land, and in the city of Poseidia did the entity reside, during those periods when there were the first of the destructive influences used by the sons of Belial and those that were in authority that made for the using of the influences that were for the increasing of the activity of the peoples for destructive influences.

23. The entity made the attempts to save much of that which was consummated by those peoples; and there are many things within the entity’s inner self often that have almost found expression in what might be made for the crystallizing of the influences of the sun through the crystal that then controlled the motivative forces in the experience of the entity.

24. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

25. In making application of self in those directions that may bring about the teachings of those that are seeking for the understandings, and in keeping the records of same, may the entity make for the greater advancement in this present experience.

26. Seek first, then, within self as to what is thy ideal. Hold fast, thou, to that strength as thou perceived that prompted the hearts and minds and bodies of those that served their fellow man without seeking for self-glorification. And with thy ideal set in the spiritual things, ye may find and ye will know the truth that was in Him. For the truth shall indeed make you free, when ye come to the understanding of same as ye apply it in thy relations to thy fellow man.

27. Ready for questions.

28. (Q) In what way may I relieve present unfavorable conditions? (A) In making for that dependence upon the creative forces from within to direct thee IN thy activities with thy fellow man. This, to some, may sound as being impractical or visionary. Whose is the world, and the material things thereof? WHO, declared the Lord, has the silver and the gold? Who gives the increase into man’s hands? Man may prepare. MAN may dispose. Man may make for activity. But only God may give the increase.

Find in self, then, thy relationship with thy Creator, now. Then depend upon Him for that directing within self. For he has given, “I will open my heart, my understanding, to those that seek to know thy face.” Not as being still, but as opening thy mind, thy heart, that He - thy God, not someone else but thy God - may direct thee.

29. (Q) In what particular field of teaching is the entity best fitted? (A) In that which has been indicated, in how the entity HAS ministered; in that of Self - John Self, making for that manner in which the spiritual life, the moral life, the commercial life, are ONE. Not many standards for a man or a woman, or in their relations one with another, but ONE! For God is God of all, of all activity. In those teachings that may make for the moral and spiritual uplift, then, for the young, for the old, for those in all walks of life.

30. (Q) What should be the activity of the entity in regard to the New York Stock Exchange? (A) New York Stock Exchange is very good to those who treat it kindly, and it’s very unkind to those that abuse the privileges there.

In relationships to these, we would keep very close to those things that make for constructive influences in peoples’ lives, rather than those that are speculative or those things that make for the gratifying of material desires.

31. (Q) What would you advise as regarding the activity in law? (A) These are very good; only as they deal with the home relationships, though, would be the better for the entity’s activities.

32. (Q) What would you advise regarding the entity’s activity in relation to the following companies? First, P.V.A. - (A) These - all of these as combined here - take that as given at first; we are repeating just the same as we have given. Study in self first what you would do with self, as relationships to thyself, to thy neighbor, to thy God. Then enter within, to thy communion with thy God. Be DIRECTED by that in thy associations with any of the commercial organization, any of thy teachings, any of thy relationships with thy fellow man; and THERE ye will find the answer. MEDITATE upon not just what you want given to you, but what have you to give to thy fellow man, in and through the help of the best within thee!

I have studied it very thoroughly and know, down deep in my soul, that every word of it is true, and I shall not have any peace until I can arrange my affairs in such a way as to permit me to go on with the work which is so clearly outlined in the reading.

May I ask you to be good enough to give me a further reading, at the very earliest possible moment, on my present position

• I think that you call it “present professional reading”. I am particularly anxious to have assistance in working out my present burdensome financial position and my somewhat complicated position in the business and financial world. R10. 9/3/35 He reported favorably on rdgs. for himself, his wife and mother-law [See under 920-2 Reports and 765-2 Reports], saying:

With reference to the two readings which Mr. Cayce gave me last April with regard to guidance in my mental and material problems, I want to report that I have got a hold of myself completely from the mental and spiritual standpoint, and I now have absolute faith that the Father is directing every moment of my life, and it is my earnest wish that I never lose sight of this for one moment. While I have complete faith that my material affairs - financial situation, business career, etc. - are working out for the best, I must confess that the way has not yet opened up for me to sell my house and other burdensome and apparently frozen assets and thereby relieve me from my burden of debt. Would it be possible or advisable for Mr. Cayce to give me a Check Reading on this situation? I have done everything that I know how to do, and still have absolute faith and patience, but it would be such a great help to have further guidance on these matters.

I feel quite confident that I know what my future work should be. Based on Mr. Cayce’s original readings and what the Father tells me within, I am convinced that I should return to the International Banking field; not as a trader for profit or an actual part of the management or machinery of any particular bank or banking house, but rather as an international traveller, lining up new and old clients, with a central banking house either in this country or elsewhere. I know that business, and the wide contacts that such an activity would give me would provide such wonderful opportunities for awakening and developing such an enormous number of people to a real understanding of the Truth. My whole soul yearns for an opportunity such as I have described, and I feel confident that the Father will open up the way in this direction, revealing to me the proper bank or banking house with which to be associated, and making possible the satisfactory connection along the lines outlined above. While I feel so positively that this is working out satisfactorily, may I again say that it would be a tremendous help to me to have further guidance, and I, therefore, would greatly appreciate it if Mr. Cayce would also give me a Check Reading on this matter.

I am confident that I now fully understand the two previous readings given me in April. I have been over them time and time again, and I cannot tell you how helpful they have been. Nevertheless, I feel very strongly the need of a Check Reading on the above mentioned points, and any further guidance which the Father will give me through Mr. Cayce. In other words, although my faith is absolute, I feel very strongly the need of a little more specific guidance, and I know that the Father will answer my call for further assistance, either through Mr. Cayce or otherwise.

In closing, may I again offer my most sincere thanks for all that Mr. Cayce and all of you have done for all of us, and I assure you of my appreciation in advance of the further help and assistance which I know you will give to all who are seeking the Truth.

I have just completed a very deep study and review of all of the readings which you have given me from the beginning, and my heart is full of deep gratitude to you as the channel of information from the “ONE”, the Father of us all. This study has at the same time inspired me and humbled me. I shall now press on to do His will as revealed to me from within.

God bless you in your wonderful work, and may others get the same wonderful help as you have given to me.

I am sure that it would be helpful to me and probably of interest to many others if you would give me readings on my life experience in the Atlantean period, as well as my life experience as Cercel. I would like to have the readings in this order - i.e., first the Atlantean, and second the Roman. Let me know when you can give these readings so that I may cooperate as usual.

In my first Life Reading, when reference is made to my Atlantean experience, it was said that my inner self would reveal to me how the influences of the sun were crystalized by the Atlanteans through a crystal and used as a motivative force in material activity. I have had some glimpses of this within me and am, therefore, most eager to get more light on this particular point.

In the Cercel experience, my first reading tells me that I knew John, Luke and others who were with Jesus, and that I learned about his teachings and his service from them. I am also told that I learned much of the occult in Alexandria and the inner circles of Rome. On all these points I am most eager to get full information.
