This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21th day of December, 1925, in accordance with request made by self - Mr [900].
[Edgar Cayce; Mrs. Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City.
-
GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [900], of Apt. …, … St., and the condition, especially, that existed last night, and still exists, between he and [136] [his wife] and you will tell [900] just what his actions should be in the matter at the present time.
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [900]. This we have had before.
-
Now, the conditions as existed, and as do exist, we find are not at all compatible with the correct conditions as should be, for the knowledge and the condition of each of the individuals; yet, as we see here, this is much of that condition as has been given to one of the entities, in the way and manner as how they should conduct themselves at this period of its development. This, as we see, referring to the other party.
-
Then, the actions of [900] in the matter, toward conditions, should be such as these: As the entity has gained that knowledge as concerning the manifestations of various forces in the physical plane, and as the entity has gained some understanding of how these apply in every phase of human existence, then the entity, taking into consideration the conditions as exist, and the duties in the physical manner that are as obligations to the entity, then in that quiet, peaceful manner that the entity may attain in self, that quietude that is necessary to meet the conditions at the present time. Then enter into that quietude in prayer and in supplication for that STRENGTH to now manifest those truths as are being, and AS HAVE BEEN, gained by the entity, and the entity will find that He does NOT meet these alone, but with that guiding hand of the Spirit that gives to the entity the power, the force, the words, necessary to bring the condition of chaos unto that quietude, even as was said of Him, “Even the winds and the waves obey His Voice.” Then, with that Spirit, that Love as was manifested by Him, let this entity now meet these, every being faithful to that trust as is placed in Him, in that the message to many must come through this entity, for that development is such that the forces may manifest through this in the manner as has been given. Then, meet these in that way and manner, entering then into that quietness and in all supplication, dependent then upon Him, and IN HIM there will be found that answer to the entity’s inmost force - that all is well, with Him.
-
As to the conditions as exist regarding that entity about whom much of the actions have been caused, these, as we see, will take their place in their proper sphere.
-
The conditions as regarding Mrs. [139], we find these still much exaggerated, from that as had here before, and the nearer conditions (in that the suggestion as given was NOT carried out) would be to have those portions of the pneumogastric and hypogastric plexuses brought to their normal action through osteopathic manipulation, rather than by drug taking.
-
We are through for the present.

115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear [900]:-
Just a note to enclose you the readings, and I certainly am in hopes that these prove of a great deal of worth to you. I can well imagine, from my own physical mind and experiences, much of the conditions that you are confronted with at this present time. I feel sure it is something like that I felt the other day when I was talking with you, regarding myself - but as you said to me, we know that He is true and He will not fail us, when we put our trust in Him, and that is the thing for you to do at the present time. I’m sure you are experiencing too a great deal of the same condition as I experienced in my own self and family in my first experiences with trying to get people to follow the suggestions as given - though I know there is this difference. There was a doubt in my OWN mind, which you haven’t. I’m certainly very much in sympathy with you and I hope and trust that you will not hesitate to call on me at any time. You know I want to be of help if possible, but above all I do not want to be a hindrance or a stumbling block to anyone.
Let me hear from you whenever you have the opportunity. With very best from all,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
R2. 12/21/25 [900]‘s letter to EC:
Dear Edgar:
Christmas is certainly a blessed time - for we even stop when at war and sing “Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men,” and although the cynic might add even though we don’t mean it or practise it, I think it is a fact that in our hearts we DO mean, but that we fail in our sensuous minds to comprehend how to bring it about or the full meaning of why it should be brought about. If our work, through you, enables us to bring a little clearer understanding into the world of the “WHY” and “HOW”, then isn’t that truly a task worthy of many sacrifices - so many of which I know you and yours are enduring? I truly believe there is much, much within me that I have not capitalized - that somehow I could make much, much greater and mightier things come of our work, than hitherto - in fact I feel much like I did when as a little fellow, I saw all the other boys carry off the scholastic, while I sat back sensitive of being a sort of dummy - yet feeling something trying to break out of me, some achievement I could accomplish if only I set my mind to it. So now I feel, if I would only set my mind to meet the force that seems to try and push its way through the dull material self. Whether I am right in this surmise or wrong, anyway I can’t help feeling if we just get started, if the impulse is once given, we’ll travel fast and far - it is the delay that disheartens me too, yet this is no time for regrets. Life is a bed of water filling from many springs and we seem not to know when one gushing flow will oe’r flood the banks only to be succeeded by a drought. Only yesterday afternoon I remarked that I could find not one cause for regret or unhappiness and I thought to myself that God had truly blessed me. I still think He has, but following that afternoon came a terrible stormy night followed by a fierce morning. Then the reading
- a calmer period and the lake became quiet again. Yet the animal knows no such emotional eruption, he simply functions whether the springs of consciousness pour hot or cold, whereas we, finding a knowledge of the springs, also find pain and grief to-gether with joy and gladness. Out of the Garden of Eden do we work, that the knowledge we have bitten into may ripen into luscious fruit. Then out of the Creator of that Garden came the phenomenon of Christ, that would lead us back into the Garden, but this time as its master, not as its occupant. Meantime here we sweat, here we work, here we curse, here we misunderstand, here we bite the hand that created us, here we lie, cheat, steal, suffer, pay and labor, yet here we lay in the rough earth the seed that is to blossom as a weed or rose, as barren or in fruit - in the seed is the kind we have developed to (Lotus flower seed), in the earth is our plane and in the ripening fruit is our future destiny. Meantime the “I wonder what it’s all about?” passes through our mind and until that question is answered in our minds and hearts the full significance of Xmas will not enter our consciousness. It is fitting that we celebrate Xmas, celebrate the joy, the sociability, the companion-ability, the brotherhood manifested in His Life, and then of course celebrate the glad news that our destiny holds for us when we come to Him, follow Him and understand Him and His. There is nothing but cause for rejoicing there and well may we give to each other to represent the Spirit of giving manifested in Him in all creation. For me there is a tinge of sadness in Xmas. What is Xmas for my people? They must take the orthodox stand of rejecting the day as they reject Christ, or accepting the day as an occasion for rejoicing, of making others happy, particularly the children to whom we are imparting Christ’s spirit, and not considering it as a religious day or lastly they may take a 1/2 x 1/2 course - the kind of festival that does as the majority do whether it be right or wrong. There is something sad about it, a helplessness questioning of “Must I suffer for the sins of my fore fathers?” Personally I love Xmas, but the feeling is ever present that my Jewish brothers take me for a hypocrite and my Christian brothers take me for an intruder and with that same sensitiveness within me as I had as a child, the same feeling that I may if I will find the solution, yet how overcome the odds against me? My people are strangers at the gate the world over, pilgrims in the nations of men, stripped of physical power, shorn of political strength yet somehow thriving, prospering, living and growing in a mysterious or by virtue of the unknown Spiritual Force. But at Xmas time I feel a stranger knocking at the door to come in, refused by those who say, “Now wouldn’t you like to come in and join us - it serves you right - anyway God made you not one of us and you don’t belong,” and laughed at by my own people who may proudly refuse to knock or be satisfied to imitate the Xmas spirit amongst themselves. The pain is at the heart for my people and blindly I grope my way wondering - wondering - wondering with eyes that see in a semi-darkness and with a mind that by reason of its 1/2 sight of the Truth seems queer, funny - not practical and sensitive. That funny mind of mine won’t rest, won’t just take life as it comes, yet suffers from biting deeper and deeper into the apple. Will Christ give me the answer? Will I wander the face of the earth ever suffering and helpless to help myself and my brothers? All my glory is not gone - it cannot be. God has not sustained Israel to make a mockery of its people. He does not work that way. After all Christ’s people were my people - His Mother was a mother in Israel - Christ was born of the Soul of Judaism - Jewish prophets foresaw His coming, Jewish teachers predicted His coming, and Jewish disciples propounded His teachings - yet when He came to the fig tree Judaism was yet not ripe to receive Him. When comes the season then?
I hope the New Year will bring us all farther along the road to our achievement of making of the psychic force in your phenomenon, a source of knowledge, help and joy to all who come for aid. Even as I write, for some unaccountable reason a black figure stands before me, appearing again and again in the shape as the [He drew in black pen an upper half of circle - arc.] - I don’t know why or how but that sense of a presence in spite of a busy stock broker’s office, in spite of interruption in answering telephone calls and talking stocks, is there quite often and as given black is the color of good to be done. It seems to co-relate with my frame of mind at present.
Wishing you the best of everything and that you may find in your heart, and your home, the Spirit of Peace and Happiness, I close wishing you a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.
Yours sincerely, [900]
R3. 12/21/25 [900]‘s letter to GD:
Dear Sunshine [His nickname for GD]:
If ever service, sacrifice & devotion to a cause & ideal merited respect, merited joy, merited all the good wishes of Man, your giving of yourself to the psychic work, to this work of doing for others without thanks or any sign of physical appreciation in return, yours does. Good things are not in our physical realm to give - they are the portion of the creative force that is the power of good, of peace, of achievement & happiness. Truly I am one who needs to be lectured to, not to give a lecture, nor do I pretend to give in reward, that which is not mine to give for it surely is your love of doing good, of service to others that keeps you so attached to your present position - a modest one indeed for one of your stenographic & other abilities - yet the inner satisfaction & inner feeling impossible of word expression I firmly believe bring you the reward that keeps you working in your present capacity. This may be all mere speculation on my part, but two things I do know positively; the first that you are sacrificing much better pay & easier (physically) work for this work that needs your abilities & your services so badly, & secondly that through your able typing & short hand work, the readings that have meant so much to me & mine, have meant more & became of far greater help to us, than they possibly could have been had a less experienced individual tried to translate them into readable language form. I am sure Edgar & the family agree with me in this, but that which I mean to convey in this particular letter is my personal appreciation for your work & the expression of my heart felt thanks to the fine & noble contribution you have given through your services to the readings & to the benefit they have brought into my life & the life of those dear to me. Finally I want you to know that in my humble opinions you are a living example of “The last shall be First,” for although many who lacks your abilities, your loyalty & your integrity, set in private secretarial seats of greater material yield & of greater physical recognition, you choose to remain in a small corner, giving your time & efforts to a work that you & I both know is the First in God’s realm, First in the Spirit realm of the Real Life & so brings its own reward from those forces. I congratulated you & wish you the best of everything in life & am sure you will get just that in the true sense of good or Godly things.
A Merry Xmas & happy new year to you & yours & may He who you have made Father, Mother, Husband & Child, give to you the love & joys of all of these.
Sincerely, [900]
P.S. The above sentiments are my brother’s as well as mine & the enclosed check comes equally from both of us.
R4. 12/29/25 EC’s letter to [900]:
115 West 35th Street, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear [900]:-
I feel like I should have replied to yours of the 21st long before this, but, knowing that you were under such a fearful strain at this time, and feeling so incompetent of replying to such a beautiful letter, so well worded and the thought and purpose in same, such a wonderful expression of the highest hopes and aspirations of Man, I have felt loath even awe; yet pleasure, that this gave me when I read same. I, though raised in the atmosphere and in the tenets of the Christian religion, have not been able to express myself in such a masterful way as regarding the meaning of the Christ Child’s coming into the world, and your feeling toward your own people reminds me somehow of the Master’s weeping over Jerusalem. This I am sure you have read often, and when one studies this a little deeper, to me it seems that you have gained much of that Spirit that guided the Master in His Human Life, and I am sure that the Christ’s Life will make you stronger, for we all come to the realization that when God is for us, who can be against us? And though you may feel at times that those who profess Christianity may feel or act that you are an intruder, and though your own people may feel and act as if you were being led astray from your early teachings; still we know the Truth of all religious precept is that the Spirit must bear witness with His Spirit, and when God is with us, we have all on our side, for the cares of this world are but as a day and the glory of men, man made, is but as a shadow - but he that has found grace and favor in the eyes of the Spirit Father will be called blessed and live long in the hearts of men and women, when monuments of iron, gold and silver, have crumbled in the dust. But the wonder and the awe-inspiring thought is, perhaps in some small way I may have been a little assistance in helping you.
I want to thank you very much for the check you sent me and I certainly appreciate yours and [137]‘s kindly thought of me and mine. I know you have been, and are doing as much and more than I could rightfully ask of you. We all have our trials and our tribulations. We all show our real worth by making stepping stones of these and not being overcome by them, and I certainly hope and trust that in the future days that are to come we will use our experiences of the past to build better, to be more helpful, more patient, for as has well been said, “Patience endureth all things.” Just as Love is the only real builder, for “God so loved the world as to give His Son, that we might know we have an advocate with the Father, and are no longer strangers but are Sons and Heirs to the Kingdom.”
I certainly thank you for the clipping that you sent me regarding Dr. Wise [Stephen Samuel Wise, founder of Zionist Organization of America]. I had seen something of it in some of the papers and had wondered if you were familiar with the conditions, but when you see how many are rallying to his aid and standard, what a wonderful feeling it must give you to know that the time is come when Israel will again lead the people into that realm wherein man may find a closer communion with his God, for as I’m sure you can see, this merely carries out, even in a greater way than we could have ever hoped to have been shown, the great message that you have to give the world. And, I’m sure too, from the purely material standpoint, it does not make you feel so alone, but realize that other great minds and students are coming to the realization of a great Truth that has not been fully comprehended for many ages past.
But the material man has to be looked after. I am just in hopes that I have been of a little help - no, please don’t get the idea that its ME, for you know that I know it ISN’T me, but I do hope that THROUGH ME there has been offered some suggestion that has been helpful to your wife, to you and to others under the present crisis, and while I know, from this reading I’m enclosing [139-6], this hasn’t passed yet, but just as was given in the dream for Miss [136], [136-26], we mustn’t rely on our weak selves, but in Him there is Truth and Understanding, if we will only make ourselves humble in His Sight and trust in Him.
We have had a very quiet, but a very pleasant Christmas. We have been rather busy, yet our Joy is in trying to be helpful to someone, in trying to use those few talents as have been given us, that others may better understand His Ways.
I will look around, as you suggest, and then we will get the reading regarding property here and see what we can make out of it. We have been trying to make some arrangements to better our condition regarding the wood [expensive wood logs for fireplace] question, but it seems a hard thing to do - such a poor way to get about and not knowing just where to hit. Often the case, “Physician, heal thyself,” certainly is true. Others he may help and save, himself he cannot save - but we’re in hopes we can make it along until things do change, and I’m sure they will.
But thanking you and [137] for your thought of us and thank- ing you for the wonderful letter, for it will be ever a source of inspiration to me to read this over and over. I wish I had it on a Christmas Card to send to millions of people.
Trusting that the New Year will bring you blessings and joys, and an understanding as to how to use the sorrows and the drawbacks as stepping stones for higher things, and may His greatest blessings ever attend you throughout this span of years, and with kindest personal regards from all,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce [EC:GD]
