This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Avenue, Dayton, Ohio, this 4th day of February, 1925, in accordance with wired request made by self - Mr. [900].

1. GC: You will have before you the reading taken on the body, [900] on January 29, 1925, regarding his contemplated trip. You will answer the following questions on this:

2. (Q) Tell the body, [900], how he may make this trip a financial asset to himself. (A) Through the individuals whom the body, [900], would contact on such a trip. This as to who, take the will and seek those who seek him. Names, no. Follow the inclinations and seek those out.

3. (Q) As you will see, his time is limited by virtue of recent developments in his business with his partners in business. As time is limited, what city should body visit to secure this financial aid? (A) New Orleans. Atlanta.

4. (Q) Due to these same recent business developments, body, [900], thought he might better not make the trip. The cancelling of this trip may not be advisable in the light of the reading of January 29th. Who may he see, and where may he see the party in order to make the trip a business asset, rather than waste of money? (A) As given. This may be of the individual’s will forces. As given, if taken, this may be made as asset to the body in the trip itself, in the associations in the contacts made. The will may direct either way. Not given from here as who, or whether - guide self.

5. (Q) In the light of recent conditions in his business with his partners, is it still advisable from the business standpoint to make this journey? (A) As has been given. This must be of individual’s making. Not given from here.

R1. 2/6/25 Mr. [900]‘s letter to EC:

Dear Edgar:

No doubt you wonder why I have not answered your letter more promptly, also not responded to certain questions you put to me such as the [122] reading. In the case of the letter I purposely avoided this to have time to think over the matter. In general my negligence in answering your correspondence have been due to a great press of affairs & time. In the first place during the day I have been busy giving effort & thought to the readjustment taking place or to take place in our business. This you have seen in readings taken on this work. I will tell you more of this when I see you in Dayton, which I expect to do in a week or two, possibly three. Secondly I have been pounding hard nights sometimes until 2 & 3 in the morning writing the book [[3744] series plus [900] additions]. All of the attendant conditions surrounding this writing are impossible to enumerate at this time. Suffice that I seem to be enlarging my view & understanding of life, that the parables of the Bible for example are clearer to me, the Bible in each verse becoming what it never before could have been a definite aid & understandable piece of literature. Furthermore I have acquired a faith sincere & steadfast that almost surprises myself. I have had high moments evidenced in my spontaneous jotting down a little squib of about of about 100 words on such subjects as: “Music”, “The Good Old Days”, “Preaching & Practice”, and “Homeward Bound!” They are probably only of interest to me, so I won’t bore you with them, (though you’re always welcome to read them if you want), but they indicate to me the high points I am reaching at times in my study into the “Borderland”, as was given to me to do in the first place. I believe the highest point I have yet reached was during a prayer & I really know this should not be mentioned, & I gave it to you in confidence not to be mentioned for it would surely be misunderstood & it is a thing pertaining to me alone & not for any other living soul. I tell you then, because you & I feel you will understand & sometime, possibly when I come to Dayton will give me a reading to see whether it was merely a freak of my conscious mind - merely my imagination or an actual message, for it came as did the injunction regarding you which said, “You will take him where he will do the most people the greatest good.” This came while I was conscious, though my mind was wandering, & may well be just a part of my imagination & a concerted one at that, so all the more reason why the thing should be kept quiet & the reading before you will take on it for me a closely confidential one. During a prayer one night the words came to me, “Thou shalt follow my mandates & keep my statutes & I will make thee a Prince of Men!” The words persist in my mind, & they came in clearly so definitely that I simply can’t throw them aside as merely a matter of imagination. Whether it is or not, I have the faith that any person obeying these instructions may become a teacher & leader in thought, a shining light as the book of Daniel tells us in the last chapter & is so much a Prince of Men. Probably here I have interpreted the words for myself, but I should like to know whether my own spiritual forces within myself, or the spirit of the Almighty had any bearing on the message or whether the words were merely a matter of my own conscious mind’s creation. We’ll hold this in abeyance until I see you personally. Of course the low points have also came to me, as to-night & are again the result of my digressing from my determination to control my actions in my daily life & confusion, heart ache & remorse as well as self condemnation are its result of my preaching & not practicing what I preach. As given in a reading: “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” I know we pay for these digressions & peculiar thing happened while I preached, yet did not practice an accident almost occurred that could have been disastrous if not fatal. Only by a hair’s breath was a terrible collision avoided, yet I seemed not to realize the danger I was in. Truly it was one thing to commit sin in ignorance, but to attempt to stand in place of Him & teach others the way is a great responsibility, the ability the result of a mighty God given power & its misuse is to risk the wrath of God, & bring upon ourselves the reaction of His punishment. Exactly as given in your reading relating to any misuse made of information or work secured from these sources. I prayed for aid & aid was & is being given me. “How Mr. Material Minded Man?” Know then that upon awakening from a sleep I raved out loud the name of a certain stock & told myself that it would go up. With all the faith within me I bot [bought] that stock & IT IS GOING UP & MAKING MONEY FOR ME [See 900-33, Par. 12-A]. It will go higher too. Now I told no man of this for I know as you advised me it was not intended I should. “Just a freak, a lucky break or good hunch,” says Mr. Material Minded. I do not understand such words - they mean nothing to me. To me to explain away a condition or phenomena by giving it the term hunch, luck or coincidence is the same as answering a question by replying “Because.” Again I pray for wisdom & knowledge & the power these bring & they are granted to me. He that hath ears to hear & eyes to see may know of the Kingdom of Heaven

• or he who has the development in Spirit, & righteousness in action - he shall know. To know that hath (righteousness) shall be given, but to him that hath not (righteousness) shall more be taken away. So I know in my newly found comprehension of the old & new testament that this wisdom is being given to me in dream, vision, understanding ETC. The giver of these gifts is God - and to what higher power shall one appeal if wrong use is made of these gifts. One who does not practice dare not preach, for that is mocking God & God is never mocked, for many people all unconscious, seem to be coming mentally under my sway - I sense it - I know it though they would not admit it, though I could not demonstrate it, yet mysteriously enough they come to me thinking I do not understand - that they are fooling me so to speak. How vain, how foolish is the conscious mind & flesh that refuses to bow the head & bend the knee to the great Master. There is One in our office, of whom I dreamed, who today said of a friend of his who just died: “He died yesterday & they are burying him today. It’s a shame to put him away so soon!” So to this man is the grave the goal, the worms his future masters. I prefer my faith, my understanding & version of the kingdom of heaven, for of all the pearls, why should I throw away the largest & most beautiful & keep the smaller ones, when here before me is the largest & most beautiful of all such that I might well dispose of all the rest that I may be able to retain this one. Who is he that is born a Christian or Jew? The kingdom is the heritage of no faith. The paths of Christianity or Judaism lead to Him, but must be tread by each alone & learn the way, to gain the light, to surmount each his own barrier & find within himself the help that shall bring him to the peak & gain him entrance into the Holy of Holies. Christianity & Judaism have never failed, but there are those Christians & those Jews who have yet to learn the truths of their own faith - the fundamental law of all faiths of any description - the Law of Love. Failure in the recognition & practice of this law means lack of tolerance, sincerity & spiritual develop- ment. Without these qualities God may not be approached, for He is Spirit and all souls are His. So, enough for the philosophy of the work - to the work itself.

I believe, in order that, I as well as any do not monopolize too much of your time that we arrange to take readings for members of the board of governor’s, at present, [137], [140], Ma [106] & myself, [900] (Miss Gladys take note), on Monday & Tuesdays only. The rest of the week should be devoted to helping others. Certainly the rule cannot be an absolute hard & fixed one, as illnesses, special visits, or some unusual happening might well call for an extra reading, but for the most part and in general readings for myself & others of the board should be confined to Mondays & Tuesdays alone, such that the work may be of benefit to the majority. I know I get over enthusiastic about a dream, ETC. & am anxious for interpretations but I’ll have to wait until Monday or Tues. hereafter like the rest. Of course such a case as my mother [106]‘s where illness is causing suffering is a different thing. Regarding Mrs. [122] who is [4353]‘s mother, advise that you put her reading thru in the regular way sending her the letter ETC.

Sorry indeed to hear of your ill health & certainly hope you recover quickly. Have no doubt but what if you follow your own suggestions you’ll be up & at ‘em shortly. Surely would not attempt to work until your health permits. Regarding reading [See 1800-2] on Oppenheimer, don’t take anything that you do not deem right as we only want that which is right, but before you turn the reading down altogether understand the main point I am driving at. In the case of May Solomon [See 254-20] I spent a whole evening explaining to her the ill effects that came to you when you took advantage of your own power such as loss of voice, whiskey addict ETC & also the ill effects to those who received such readings. This was easily done as she is trying to study the work. I can’t do this with Oppenheimer’s as he knows nothing of the work & might not want to. He’s a manufacturing chemist. Now what I want to know is nothing about him, but if its alright to have one not connected with our psychic work take charge of the mfg. end in return for payment we will make him & furthermore if there is any danger WE in incur in letting Oppenheimer take care of this work. If you deem it best, we’ll take the chance as he seems to be trustworthy. Have a lawyer working on patents now. Under advice of a large druggist & dentist we have discarded name gum-ese. It suggested, they said, chewing gum rather than a care for pyorrhea, so we are thinking of calling it “Pyro-cure.” What do you think of this? Any suggestions for a better name are more than welcome.

Just as soon as I get time, & I’ll make that time very soon, I’m going to dictate a letter to be sent to everybody you have ever given a reading to as given me to do in reading. We ought send application cards to all who desire to affiliate & file the cards in order according to alphabet & location. Then we would have a record of a definite membership & local branches could be formed to carry on study & research in own location in own way. Since one center is necessary to keep organization systemized & properly managed the board of governors might be ourselves located in N.Y., while each locality could have their own organization. Some time if I get money enough I hope to go to the various localities where there are a number of people & help them organize. You see I understand what the readings is driving at all right. I do understand & it came to me how the thing should be done. Its my line, that’s all. I’ve run an automobile for years & couldn’t fix a screw in the engine nor have I the least desire or interest to learn, but this, or anything of the mystic, of philosophy, of theology, of history particularly ancient history & things of like characters are my meat, so to speak. I love the studies & some how am able to gain an understanding comprehensible to myself if no one else. So I’ll get the letter out & application card very soon & send it to you for approval, & then have as many made as you have names. Hope to get this done before coming to Dayton. May yet make my trip.
