GC: You will have before you the enquiring mind of [900] with the study of the spiritual entities re-entering into the physical condition. Also his study of Ouspensky’s book. You will answer the following questions, as I ask them, regarding same.
-
EC: Yes, we have the enquiring mind and the study of Ouspensky’s book, [Tertium Organum] as is expressed in the suggestions as are made from time to time from the mind of [900]. In the study of the spiritual forces and of Ouspensky’s book, only change or difference as we would give in this would be that the entity gain a clear understanding of the difference between spiritual law with spiritual manifestation and of physical law, or thought, with spiritual action with same. As has been shown clearly in the difference of how inductive reasoning comes to the consciousness of the individual through co-relating of physical conditions, viewed from the spiritual aspect, and to the layman mind is but bosh, or in such of the emblematical manners of the environment of the individual as to not be understood at all. Hence becomes a stumbling block, when the law of only a portion of same is seen in operation and is carried to an extreme. That is, do not become an extremist in any sense, whether from the spiritual, mental, physical, social, moral or financial aspect, but knowing that moderation in all gives the clearer understanding, and that the phenomena of life is manifested in a physical world through spiritual aspects, or that the awakening of physical forces is but the sleeping, resting or subsidiation [subsidization or subordination?] of the spiritual force manifested in the world - physical.
-
Then, understand all from the spiritual aspect, for as has been given, the entity is in that position wherein it may gain a position such as may be envied by many, and be so able to correlate the various spiritual phases of phenomena in a physical world as to give that thesis upon which the greater laws of the Ruler of the Universe and His laws may be better understood.

Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Which of the books, written by Confucius, will explain this to [900]? (A) Cato II, [GD’s note: cata- or cato-? See 900-88, Par. R2.] obtainable from the American-Indo Society, Chicago, Ill., or from the Theosophical Exchange in Chicago, and through any of the high class or higher rated book sellers in New York - McMillan [MacMillan & Co.], Marsh [?], Bontella [Brentano’s, Inc?], Revell [Fleming H. Revell Co.] - Fifth Avenue. Any of these.
-
(Q) Is there any other book written after the matter of Ouspensky’s “Tertium Organum” that will further help the body, [900], to gain knowledge along similar lines? (A) Any of those that are quoted or had reference to in this book will be of assistance to the body of gaining an equilibrium of understanding of the various phases of the subject, for as is treated by Ouspensky, who, as we see, was the sage of the mountain in the third generation of the peoples of the Mahabha’s [?] [Mahabharata?] in Tibet - 1777 - 7th month - 7th day - 7th hour - Mahabha Tarhl [?] [GD’s note: The spelling of the words here are mine, not EC’s.], and the keeper of the records in the mount - [See 6/20/75 reference to Tertium Organum in 900-88 Reports].

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 7/7/25 [900]‘s letter: “There is no such book as Cato II by Confucius, Cato II being a Roman who lived one thousand years after Confucius. Is there such a book as Plato II? I doubt it. Anyway, I am anxious to get the book written by Confucius, the name of the individual book written by Confucius and translated into English, that will explain about the spiritual entity re-entering the physical plane through the general living in earth’s plane. Please take a reading that will give this. Is the name of the book Cato II? Can’t be - he was an author. Will you please take this for me?… [He submitted dreams.]
“I would also appreciate your taking the problem of ‘Evolution’, as is now widely discussed on earth [Charles Darwin - William Jennings Bryan]. The chief argument of the affirmative on the theory that man evolved from the monkey is in the study of embryology, the appearance of the unborn child in relation to the monkey and unborn ape. Why this great similarity if no relation? The second stand taken is that the overcrowded mind full of precepts and then recepts finally grouped these to form concepts, or the mind of man and that overcrowding of the mind of concepts will form the cosmic consciousness of the superman, which will be common to all in time to come. Ouspensky denies this - calls it a system arranged by the conscious mind for the benefit of having something definite for the conscious mind to draw upon. Rather is evolution the development of inner man, here and elsewhere, or in this condition or in spiritual plane. Tell us the answer to this argument of those teaching evolution from animal - that is, why the unborn child resembles unborn animals, and wherein embryology errs.”
R2. 7/9/25 EC’s letter: Yours received yesterday, and as you will see, the first reading [See 900-91] was taken and we tried to get this as full as possible. However, as you will see, “We are through” was given before the questions could be asked on the last part. Should you feel that it is necessary that these be carried further, you know we shall be glad to do so, but apparently to me, it seems you have a great many of your questions answered in the reading just given that passed this one on the road, or in other words you get the dreams and the answers to same in the following dream. I’m quite anxious to take the other one though, to see just what it meant by the word “nefarious.”
As regarding the book by Confucius, I am of the opinion that you gathered the wrong impression from this, as I understand this did not mean Cato the writer, nor Plato, but just as we would say the second chapter in Confucius’ writing, for as you will see, Cato means second down, or Cato second means second down.* You should be able to obtain a book by

Confucius from one of these publishers as given, or bookseller. We’ll be glad though to take this further if you think it’s necessary.
I have thought quite often of trying to take a reading on Evolution but it seems we’ve had so much of it in the book [See [3744] series and [900]‘s questions on it.] and in the various dissertations, I suppose you might call ‘em, we have had from time to time on various subjects touching on this. I didn’t know whether it was worth while or not. I certainly had a very wonderful dream myself last night regarding same. Apparently in that I was giving a very free full lecture to a group of super-men (who, all but one, had passed into the Beyond. I’m not sure about that one individual to whom I was talking.). If I could just remember that speech I was making, I’d have a wonderful talk on same, for many of the people that I was talking with were evolution-ists, including Darwin himself, Huxley, Vance, Plato and Socrates. So you may know I had quite a learned audience and more than one side of the question presented. I’m in hopes, however, that when we do get this we’ll have something written in a form that will at least be readable, and we’ll get to it just as soon as possible. [Subsequent dream rdgs. delayed EC’s attempting the Evolution rdg.]
R3. 7/30/25 EC’s letter: “I’m more anxious now all the time [after sending [900] his rdg. 900-100 answering questions about Jesus, etc.] to get hold of the other one - Evolution, but I want to take that when I’m feeling real good and rested and I hope that we’ll have something worth while. A day or two ago we took one on a dream that I had. I’m enclosing a copy of same [294-34].” [8/3/25 Mr. [900] submitted questions for 294-37, expanding on 294-34.]
R4. 6/20/75 With reference to TERTIUM ORGANUM it is interesting to note that G. I. Gurdjieff told his student P. D. Ouspensky:
“Yes,” said G. “A great deal can be found by reading. For instance, take yourself: you might already know a great deal if you KNEW HOW TO READ. I mean that, if you UNDERSTOOD everything you have read in your life, you would already know what you are looking for now. If you understood everything you have written in your own book, what is it called?” - he
- [Cata-, cat-, cath-, [Gr. kata, kat- (before vowels) (before aspirates), fr. kata down.] A prefix in words of Greek origin (sometimes coming through Latin) and in compounds formed on Greek analogies. It denotes down, downward, away, in accordance with, against, very, completely, but in English its separate force is often not felt.]
made something altogether impossible out of the words “Tertium Organum” - “I should come and bow down to you and beg you to teach me. But YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND either what you read or what you write. You do not even understand what the word ‘understand’ means. Yet understanding is essential, and reading can be useful only if you understand what you read. But, of course, no book can give real preparation. So it is impossible to say which is better. What a man knows WELL” (he emphasized the word “well”) - “that is his preparation. If a man knows how to make coffee well or how to make boots well, then it is already possible to talk to him. The trouble is that nobody knows anything well. Everything is known just anyhow, superficially.”

R5. INDEX TO OCCULT SCIENCES, Doubleday and Company, Copyright Aldus Books Limited, London, page 48:
OUSPENSKY, PETER DEMIANOVITCH (1878-1947)
Leading occultist often described as a disciple of Gurdjieff. Ouspensky was a Russian writer and lecturer who had been trained as a scientist. But he had become dissatisfied with modern values and plunged into a study of the occult, traveling extensively in the East. In 1915 Ouspensky met Gurdjieff and became one of his closest associates. Even after their break in 1924 because of a clash of personalities, Ouspensky continued to devote his life to teaching and expounding a system of thought like Gurdjieff’s. From 1924 to 1940 he lived in London, and his lectures and study groups were attended by many well-known people. At the outbreak of World War II Ouspensky moved to New York where he continued writing and teaching. He returned to England in 1947 and died there the same year. In his IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS, he gives a detailed account of his years with Gurdjieff and of Gurdjieff’s ideas. Other important books were TERTIUM ORGANUM, A NEW MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE, THE FOURTH WAY, and THE PSYCHOLOGY OF MAN’S POSSIBLE EVOLUTION.
