This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of February, 1939, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [949], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., sponsored on active Membership of his father, Mr. [437].

Time of Reading Hollywood, 11:20 to 11:30 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. California.
-
GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures; answering the questions he has submitted, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, [949].
-
As we find, the irritations which arise in the upsetting of the digestive forces, the headaches, those tendencies for contracting cold easily, arise from superacidity in the system.
-
Hence there would be necessitated first the better eliminations through the alimentary canal, by the stirring of the activity of the liver as related to the general hepatic circulation.
-
Then there would need to be a better balancing with the diets; and that the attitudes of the entity and body towards general conditions be kept more of a constructive way or manner.
-
The arousing of the eliminations may be best accomplished for this body through the use of a combination of Fletcher’s Castoria and California Syrup of Figs, - or alternate the doses of these, but take them in a manner in which the greater effect is had; which would be small quantities taken often. In one half hour period take half to three-quarters of a teaspoonful of the Castoria, then the next thirty minutes (on the hour) take half to three-quarters of a teaspoonful of the Syrup of Figs. To be sure, the active principle in each of these is Senna, but the effect of the rest of the properties in the Figs would be to the activities of the pancreas and spleen, while the pumpkin seed and oils as combined in the Castoria will make all of these more effective for the system. Continue these for a whole day, or until there is a THOROUGH stirring of the liver and a cleansing of the system.
-
Then we would keep a little more often, for the present, those general manipulations osteopathically given for the stirring of the activity of drainages from the upper portion of the alimentary canal, or the emptying of the stomach.
-
Then as to activities in the diet:
-
It is well that there be kept about a twenty percent acid-producing to an eighty percent alkalin-producing diet.
-
Have the cereals such as whole wheat, or a combination of wheat and barley (as in Maltex), as a part of the diet three or four times each week.
-
On the other days have citrus fruit juices. When orange juice is taken, put a little lemon juice in same; say have half to a quarter of a lemon squeezed in a glass of the orange juice. This will make it much more palatable.
-
Do not eat any large quantities of syrups OR candies, especially until this inclination for the strep that causes some temperature and the headaches is eliminated from the system, - and then not too much.
-
Beware of fried foods - these are harmful.
-
Milk and milk products are very well to be a greater portion of the diet.
-
Have at least one portion of a meal each day consist of a combination of raw vegetables; especially such as celery, lettuce, spinach, radish, onions or leeks, cabbage or the like. Any of these may be mixed or used separately; or tomatoes, peppers, - any or all of these may be combined; but let such be at least a part of one meal each day.
-
No red meats. Preferably fish, fowl or lamb, - but never any of these fried.
-
Do this and as we find we may keep the better conditions.
-
In the activities, have at least an hour to two hours as much in the open each day as is practical; either riding, handball or golf or the like.
-
Do that. Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would you suggest one to give the proper treatments? (A) These may be given by one who has administered these before, you see.
-
We are through with this Reading. [GD’s note: Due to many interruptions we were late getting started with the Reading. There were two other Check Readings to be given. Mrs. Cayce presented the first name on the list, which was a lady in New York. Mr. Cayce repeated the name and address as he always does in locating the body. Then he said, “Better begin with [949] - he is going out!” So Mrs. C. then presented your name and address, and we got yours first. This was very unusual, an out of the ordinary happening, so thought you would be interested. GD.]

R1. 2/17/39 EC’s ltr. to [949]:
Dear [949]:
On receipt of your wire - found we had a period when we might work your reading in, hope you have it before this and that the suggestions will help out. Had a right funny experience at the period your reading was taken - would like to check up on it. What time did you leave your home the morning of the reading - do you remember? For when we started to get the check reading (can take more than one of the check readings at a period) gave the name of some one in an other place - N.Y. to be exact - and the information gave - had better take [949] - as he is anxious to leave.
Trust you will soon be feeling a whole lot better - be sure and let us hear from you - take care of your self - hope every thing is going fine for you.
With all good wishes
Sincerely Edgar Cayce
R2. 3/8/39 [949]‘s ltr. to EC:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I meant to write you sooner, but my quarters here are so bad, that is comparatively often that I get by myself long enough to write a letter.
I am learning the business what I gather is the hard, and altho it is much softer than driving a truck, still it’s not the lucious picture they like to paint about Hollywood. My office is in the waiting room of the story editor. It is a desk which is barely big enough for me to slide my feet under when I lean back. The waiting room is always full of agents (the lowest type of Hollywood life) who sit, and leave cigar butts, newspapers, magazines, trade papers, on the sanctity which is my desk. Consequently when it is necessary for me to read, I have to find some place that’s quiet. And as to thinking - well, it’s a good thing they don’t expect that of me.
Physically I am much improved. I went right to work on the physics prescribed in the reading, have been taking the chiropractic treatments from the man Dr. Miller sent me to - and it looks as tho everything is coming out all right. I must have been a little bad off, because it took almost two weeks of reconstruction before I began to feel well. I can easily see, tho, how living away from home and getting food on the fly, I got off my diet - and it’s probably just as good that I caught it when I did.
I was very interested in reading the note about the reading saying to take me first as I was getting ready to leave. I usually do leave the apartment at about nine o’clock. You’re being delayed meant that you started the reading at 8:30, so you see that it was a pretty close call. As always, I am very much interested in the sidelights of the readings.
I have been in communication with Hugh Lynn as to getting his ideas placed out here. But I have been sort of stumped as to how to go about it - those fields not having any regular channels. I’m waiting to hear from New York, tho, and will probably get in touch with him as soon as I get an idea.
I hope that you are all well, and that I will hear from you soon again when you feel like writing.
R3. 3/13/39 EC’s ltr. to [949]:
Dear [949]:
Thanks for yours of the 8th - had wondered how you were making out, glad to know you are feeling better, can one keep physically fit they can usually make out to carry on, tho it may be in the hard way in taking care of things, is usually the way one gets a pretty liberal education just listening to and observing the manner and purpose one puts behind what they are trying to accomplish. Believe all are gradually learning it is the honest hard worker - not the shirker or the jerker that gets there in the long run. Am pretty sure we will always have with us those that try and climb up some other way, some may accomplish it or appear to do so for a while but unless the underpinions [underpinnings] are pretty solid, well they don’t hold out - or there comes the time when every thing fails from what no one may seem to know.
Glad you got hold of some one that could handle the condition for you - is well to know where to go, for what.
Yes - there are at times some side lights to the readings that makes one wonder. Yet try and reproduce them and it seems impossible. Yet once and while they crop out - certainly makes one wonder. An interesting experience here Sat. evening, a local lady [Mrs. [1857]] phoned me that her sister [Miss [1849]] was here for few hours. Had just returned from Paris, and had a letter of introduction for me. And when she came in it was a girl that I knew very well some 25 years ago in Ala. She had never associated the name with the Cayce she knew. Am afraid she was much disappointed or as she said could she have only know it while in France.
H. L. is home now. Came in Sunday will be here guess until after the Congress we have the middle of June. When are you coming east? Won’t be able to make it here about that time will you - 17-18-19 and 20 June? All pretty good here - surely are keeping busy.
Write again soon all good wishes. Sincerely EC
