This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his office, 322 Grafton Ave., Dayton, Ohio, this 10th day of September, 1924, following 4476-1, a Physical Reading for a child in Chicago.

Time of Reading 1:00 P. M. Dayton Savings Time. (No suggestion was given to obtain this reading, it was volunteered at the end of 4476-1, although it had been requested previously by Mr. [953].)

1. EC: We find there is near this place on Logan Blvd., (2546 Logan Blvd.) the shop (automobile shop) in which there has been kept and held the booty or money as was obtained from the robbery as was committed on the 12th of June, 1924, near Roundout, Northwest from Chicago, in the outer suburbs. In this we find there were those connected with same who were associated with the messenger on this Milwaukee train. These, or this party, held for the planning of this hold-up is innocent of the intent and purpose as charged against this body. Hamuel was the one that is the Master Mind in the robbery, who at present is in Frisco - San Francisco.

2. The monies will soon be moved from this garage. This lies to the West and North from the location on Logan Blvd. Only square and a half. Not quite that far.

3. (Q) What is the name of this garage? (A) Yes, that has been changed also since this has happened - Old’s Garage Company.

In this we find the perpetrators of this have brought the charges, for they have found through the channels of the guards that the inspector could be made to appear an accessory to the crime.

Follow this lead then, the two guards accompanying this shipment. Question those as to the parties who left Roundout for the West shore, and who first carried (see, over $100,000 involved in this) this money to Wisconsin. Then recently it has been brought in a Star automobile to this shop. Follow that lead. We are through.

R1. 9/10/24 EC’s ltr. to [953]:

In taking a reading this morning [4476-1] that we had for a body in Chicago, who, by the way, is referred to Dr. Saxmann for treatment, we got the enclosed on the reading you asked about the other day. This, as you will see, was voluntarily given. Apparently because this was in the same neighborhood. I know no other reason. We have been quite busy for the last day or two and didn’t have a chance. You will please, should this be used in any manner or form, see that there is no reference made in any way, shape, form or fashion, as to my having anything to do with it, for as you know I am adverse to getting mixed up in any way whatever with a thing of this kind, and my wife and the rest of the family are really opposed to my sending this to you, for they fear for my safety should it be known that I even attempted to give anything of the kind. Whether this will be worth while or not I don’t know. Anyway, it will be worth following out, for I’d like to see this man, who ever he is, brought to justice and I’d like to see the man who is being held vindicated of any participation in same. Should there be anything that this would lead to, or any direct question that might be asked, if I can help out and not be implicated in any way, I’ll try it, but I don’t like to do a thing of this kind.

R2. 9/16/24 Mr. [953]‘s ltr.: I have yours of the 15th. Sorry indeed to learn that you are not well. I hope that you may soon recover.

I have been anxiously awaiting the information that I wired for [No copy], as I feel there is a great opportunity there to help up-hold the Laws of our Country, bringing criminals to justice, exonerate innocent parties and possibly secure a good substantial remuneration in rewards, both for the recovery of monies and goods stolen, and apprehension of the real robbers. If you could possibly give me more detailed information, please do so at once for the Federal Grand Jury has found an indictment against the party I have referred to and his hearing comes up tomorrow.

I visited the locality that you mentioned and find there are several garages in the vicinity and two especially that might be suspected of being the hiding place for the loot, but the one most likely is north and a little east of the location on Logan Blvd. rather than north and west. I don’t feel justified in making a move until a better location is given, if possible.

I don’t know when I will be able to go to Dayton, but not this week, as I am engaged in work that keeps me here every day.

R3. 9/20/24 EC’s ltr. to [953]:

I have yours of the 16th. Glad indeed to hear from you and I am certainly very sorry that I was unable to carry out the further suggestions regarding the location of this garage, etc. I presume, however, that since they have already had the hearing before the Federal Grand Jury that there has been sufficient evidence brought forward to indicate what the real happenings were in the affair. If it is possible for me to be of further service in trying to ferret out the correct conditions, I shall be very glad to try, provided, however, that I can do so without bringing bad results for the other work.

R4. 9/22/24 Mr. [953]‘s ltr. to EC:

Now about the reading I requested here. I have been somewhat disappointed in not receiving the information asked for, for the evidence that has been produced at hearings so far seems to be without foundation and all indicates a frame-up. So far as I can learn they have no idea as to the location of the loot and none of the parties arrested in connection with the hold-up have confessed. I felt that it was a great opportunity to show what could be done in bringing criminals to justice, exonerating the innocent and restoring valuable property to the Government, at the same time helping yourself and those dependent on you in a financial way, by securing a part of the reward. I expected to handle this without bringing your name into it. Of course, if you don’t feel that you can give further information, we will drop it.

R6. 12/16/24 EC’s ltr. to [953]:

I received the copy of the paper this morning, sent me regarding Mr. Fahy. Seemingly, they have a very strong case against this man, but I can’t believe that he is guilty. I certainly wish it was possible for us to in some way ferret this out, provided he is innocent. I would certainly like to know what he has to say of this himself after these men have made this case so strong against him and the courts have accepted it. Either we were entirely wrong on our surmise or he is being unjustly condemned.

VOTE TO INDICT FAHY - U.S. Grand Jurors Reported to Have Given O.K. to True Bill.

Others Involved in Action Against Alleged Mail Bandits.

Evidence that William J. Fahy, former ace among Chicago postal inspectors, was the “brains” of the gang of bandits who held up a mail train near Rondout and escaped with $2,000,000 in currency and securities, was presented to the federal grand jury this morning. After hearing the charges, which were presented at the direction of Assistant District Attorneys John Elliott Byrns and Charles Clarahan, the grand jury is reported to have voted to indict the accused postal inspector. The indictment probably will be returned tomorrow morning.

Testimony by two “mystery witnesses” this morning, who have been held under cover by the district attorney, is believed to have figured prominently in swaying the jurors to vote for an indictment.

From nine to a dozen witnesses are said to have gone before the jury. Aside from the post office inspectors who investigated the case one of the chief witnesses was said to have been Mrs. Ernest Fontana, wife of one of the men held for the Rondout robbery, to whom, it is alleged, Fahy boasted that he had received a payment of $14,000 from James Murray, west side politician, also under indictment in connection with the holdup.

Besides indictments against Fahy, a blanket indictment against all the other principals in the affair, the Newton and Fontana brothers, Murray, and Max Greenberg, East St. Louis politician and alleged gangster, were also sought on a charge of conspiracy with Fahy to commit the robbery.

According to his friends, Fahy had been working night and day since his release Saturday on $50,000 bonds in an effort to gather evidence which will disprove the charges against him.

He had not been in the federal building since his release, but it was said that he had sought interviews with inspector A. E. Germer, his chief here in Chicago, for the purpose of convincing him that the whole affair is a frame-up by the eastern inspectors.

B1. 9/2/24 Mr. [953]‘s ltr. to EC:

You probably heard or read of the mail robbery at Rondout North of Chicago that took place the first part of June. The postal authorities have been making strenuous efforts to apprehend the guilty parties and to recover the stolen money. They now have in custody a party whom I feel is not guilty and a man whom did us a good turn a few years ago. I fear that he is the victim of jealousy on the part of his co-workers and of a frame-up of the criminal element.

Would you care to give us a reading to see whether you can name the guilty parties, present location of the loot and names of those implicated in this. And if such should be the case of the party referred to. You probably have seen his name in print if not, I thought it would be as well if I did not give you the name and you could bring it out with others in the reading. It would make the evidence more conclusive.

I have no thought of giving this information to the parties now working on the case for I feel that it might lead to complications such as you have experienced in the past. Neither should your name be connected with it. But if the reading is tangible, I have parties here who will undertake an independent investigation both to apprehend those guilty, recover the loot and clear the name of the party referred to should he be innocent.

I am not sure just what, if anything, we would get out of this in a financial way should it be a success but it would be an effort in the interest of law and order and exonerating an innocent man if it is found that he is not guilty.

As to the other reading you mention, under the circumstances, as you say, and in the way that you say, I think I’d like to try this reading for you, but there’s hardly enough of information here for me to work on, and I do not remember having seen anything regarding the hold-up. If you can get the date and the place why we’ll undertake this, or maybe it would be well, if you are coming down the first of the week, that we try and take it while you are here. I have never tried more than one or two such conditions as this. The only thing we’ve ever had has been given rather in the spontaneous sort; that is, given when we were not expecting it. Or, if you’d rather, just wire me the date and I’ll get it for you the very first opportunity. I have a letter from my wife to-day telling me, however, that Monday and Tuesday had already been made engagements for.

B3. 9/6/24 [953]‘s ltr. to EC:

Mr. Edgar Cayce, Box 463, Dayton, O.

Dear Sir:

Yours of the 5th. The robbery referred to in my previous letter occurred at 10 P.M. June 12, at Rondout, Illinois, a station on the Milwaukee & St. Paul, northwest of Chicago. The train that was robbed was a Milwaukee & St. Paul mail train, which carried a large consignment of cash to banks in the Northwest as well as a large consignment of jewelry and bonds. It was estimated there was about two million dollars stolen which consisted principally of cash and some bonds and some jewelry.

We would like to learn, if possible, the names of the parties who participated in the hold-up and those who were instrument in planning same, as it is generally believed to be what is known as an inside job or at least inside information was furnished. Those guilty in this respect we would like to know and the means by which evidence may be secured to convict them; and also if the Post-Office Inspector that is being held is guilty or innocent.

I would appreciate your reading on this as soon as possible.

I don’t think I will be able to go to Dayton next week for we have Committee work that will keep me busy for the next two weeks at least.
